DREAMS SHATTERED

Disillusionment

Reaching for a kindred soul

Aching to find a connection

Wishing to make an impression

Hoping to make contact

Yearning for understanding

Craving a kind word

Looking for familiarity

Striving to see recognition

Fearing the loneliness

Shrinking from isolation

Backing away from rejection

Running from anonymity

Fleeing from indifference

Escaping invisability

Seeming insignificant

Feeling devastated

Regretting indecision

Realizing mistakes

Denying the truth

Drifting into darkness

Losing grasp

Falling from grace

Slipping from the edge

Tumbling from the precipice

Plunging into the unknown

Soaring, weightless

Drifting directionless

Floating in soft silence

Finding sweet release

In merciful peace

Wow! This is a perfect picture of the beginning and end of depression.... (And you do know that Mio and Depression are fighting a never-ending war.)

And I am the winner, every day, because

Reaching for a kindred soul ..... and I find her in Lucky Cats aka Kathy.

Aching to find a connection.... and Lucky Cats aka Kathy is the first of so many wonderful people connecting with me without delay.

Wishing to make an impression - and here comes Kathy to cheer me (lol!

Hoping to make contact - and my hopes become reality....

Yearning for understanding - and Kathy is always able to understand!

And so I can go on.....

I love this poem..... your insight deserves applause and an encore...

:)

At the beginning of the poem I imagined all these writers on HubPages looking for some recognition, but instead it went downhill - in a positive way. I really enjoyed reading this poem even if it's a sad ending - or is it? This made me think ... Really, really good! Voted up.

Ebb and flow of attraction and rejection. Is it really rejection? Sometimes a bit of distance, and a missed opportunity for a compliment can cause some to reel from the perceived slight. I don't see this with you, I hope you don't feel it as well. Beautiful...

This is a beautiful poetry, among the finest writing that speaks to the emotional hell of loneliness and depression all the way up to peace. The depth of this poem touches my soul.

Hi Made! A roller coaster ride of up and down emotions. Life can be like this, sometimes. I think, much of what we believe we perceive is of our own imagination(s). This is a reflective as well as introspective peek into our human condition. thank you for the great comment and positive...truly appreciated!

Dear Augustine, yours is a very sympathetic comment and I appreciate it so much. I think we all go through a bit of self doubt and baseless interpretations in life. In the case of this little offering; believe me, it is not from my own feelings...it could be and, maybe, has been but, in this moment and this instance...it does not paint a personal perception. thank you, as always, for being such a good commentor and friend.

This is such a well thought out poem. The pain and suffering is so well expressed. Every line gives one a chance to reflect. Voted up and not sure what category. This poem demands a new category.

Hi my dear Al....well, if anyone knows me on this earth; it is you. But, in this case; all is well...I DO miss everyone and DO worry but, I know things will work out as they should. I know we'll talk tonight so, I'll be short and just say, thank you my dearest friend. Kathy

The journey of a life. It's like balancing on a tightrope...without a net. I've struggled with giving myself over to life with abandon only to find abandonment. Sometimes it seems like the harder I've tried, the easier it is to be dismissed. I don't want to be guarded, but I've been shown that I must. I've come to the conclusion that the more open the heart, the more easily it's crushed. And, the best of humanity, such as you, Kathy, are often left to clean up the mess. But, you are Cinderella, beautiful lady, and I know you are loved. And, if "you get what you give" is true, a mountain of everything good waits for you. I love you, my friend. This piece is so beautiful it is without comparison.

Hi Pamela99, I appreciate your visit and kind words. I think we've all felt this way from time to time. thank goodness it passes.

Seanorjohn, I am honored by your comment; and that you see the depth of it as do my friends and visitors here. I think this might resonate w/all of us once in a while. I couldn't decide what category, either. thank you both for wonderful words.

Hi Joyce. Kind of depressing, isn't it. I am sorry to hear that you've been feeling down...and that this rings a little true. I hope things get better real soon. I have a idea; read your story; the one that I wrote you about....and dwell in that warm, happy place. It sure felt like home to me. Ok? thank you for visiting, Joyce. Kathy

My dear Amy...your comment(s) are as beautiful as your poetry. I am so grateful and fortunate to have you as my friend. You possess a depth of understanding the human condition which is unparalleled. thank you so much for the kind and empathetic words...it is people like you...true friends, who make this world a more gentle place. I know that you spend so much of your time caring for others, honestly feeling their pain and...all while you are going through the greatest pain of all ...the loss of a dearly loved one. This is the mark of one who is truly unselfish! There is no rhyme nor reason for some things....it just is. Esta es la vida! Sometimes. thank you so much, my dear friend, for your always, continuing and true friendship.

hey Kennynext...Wow! How easily you have wrapped up the human condition in one very astute sentence. Very very good. Thank you

Hi there Ruby. In honesty, I wrote this with the memory of having felt this way....haven't we all, at one time or another; felt invisable....unimportant? I sure have, and, something stirred that thought which created this little description of the descent and ascent into and from the depth of despair. I'm always happy to see you, Ruby. thank you for your nice comment.

Madhatter99....well, that certainly does not seem like a fair exchange. How can we undo the damage done and give you back your dreams? Everyone needs to dream! thank you for a very clever one liner!!

Hi Kathy,

"Fleeing from indifference

Escaping invisability

Seeming insignificant"

That and...

"Hoping to make contact

Yearning for understanding

Craving a kind word

Looking for familiarity

Striving to see recognition" in a kind person's eyes.

Many of the abandoned animals on the streets must feel these same things. We are all creatures worthy of note in God's eyes.

Up votes and sharing. Well done, my friend!

Hi MM....thank you! As I re read this; I speed up the lines as they descend into the downward spirel; then slow just a bit at the last 4-5 sentences. I think this is how it reads best. I truly appreciate your comment. Thank you!

This is beautiful and very touching Kathy. Life is so full of ups and downs. Happiness and disappointments. Good and bad. I have gone through so much of what you describe and really feel all the words. I am in search of the ending, a more peaceful and less dramatic existence. I pray I stay on that path. And the same for you my dear friend!

Sharyn

Lucky Cats profile image

Lucky Cats 4 years ago from The beautiful Napa Valley, California Author

hello my dear Sharyn...I'm right there with you, my friend...and you are so right; "life is so full of ups and downs..." I only wish that those things which break my heart the most WERE of my making or within my ability to "fix," to "cure" or, to 'heal the hurt.' Sadly, this is not the case....at these times; the only solace I find is in very hard physical work which takes my mind from the sadness or.. the Serenity Prayer...thank you so much; I know you understand...your friend, Kathy
