Disabilities and Keeping Faith in God

Introduction

God does not take pleasure in our sufferings. This is a topic that many people often wonder about. The issues of sickness and disease, the issues of various disabilities whether we are born with them or they are caused by an accident of some sort. What we need to remember is we are born into sickness, disease, and death because Satan is the ruler of this world. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12

My Invisible Disability

I have a disability, mine is what they call an invisible disability because on the outside I appear fine but on the inside I have the body of a 70 year old in my spine. I have several spinal diseases and have underwent 3 different spinal fusions and am preparing for another one. I currently have a total of 10 screws, 2 rods, and a plate in my spine and they are going to have to add between 12-14 screws in my next surgery which will affect my mobility more but I will be able to continue walking and not be wheelchair bound - just yet, as long as I can help it anyway. I keep fighting the negativity spoken over me by the doctors and I will continue to speak life into my situation. I am nearly 39 right now and the issues in my spine started when I was about 12. I had my first spinal fusion when I was 32 and the doctors all told me I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40, and I am still speaking life against that. It has come to a point that I can no longer work, that I cannot walk more than a block before my legs are in so much pain that it becomes almost unbearable, but I refuse to give up. My idea of life is this, we were given this one life to live, and I believe we should live it to the fullest and a favorite saying of mine that a dear friend once told me is this “When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that that I would not have a single bit of talent left and I could say to God that I used everything you gave me”.

Reaching Out

I want to reach out to people who have a disability no matter what type of disability it may be it does not stop us from doing the will of God and it does not mean God is not with you.

One of the things God has said to me in prayer is to write. I used to write a lot and stopped, then I started writing again on fiverr for other people to use on their blogs but it felt empty, I was not getting anything out of doing that because it was words God was giving me for people to read and I felt wrong in sharing them when it should have been me sharing them. So I am going to continue to write on here in hopes of helping others and inspiring others in their walk with God whether you are new in the faith, have been in the faith a long time, or need inspiration in times of trouble because we all have our ups and downs, that could be another article in itself so I will save that for later.

God Gifts Us All

God is an amazing God, He is the Great I AM...He gives gifts to all His children to do the will He has for us and it could be something as simple as reaching out to a fellow church member, serving others by hosting bible study, greeting people on their way into church, involving yourself in children's ministry, worship ministry, prayer ministry, or even just talking to people and letting them talk to you or just sitting and listening to what they have to say. We are all humans and we all need each other whether we believe this or not.

Christianity is about a relationship with God and where you are in Him is important to Him. I used to think that I would never know God's plan for my life, that it had to be some grandiose design and I still dont know Gods plan for my life. However, I do know taking one day at a time and spending time daily with God that I am doing His plan for me because it starts on the inside of us with God. It is when we open ourselves up to Him that He is able to get us to a place He needs us to be spiritually so that then we can do His will.

There is no disability that will prevent you from getting closer to God or doing something for Him. We can talk to Him in many different ways, out loud, whispering, in silence as He can hear our thoughts, and we can pray and listen for His voice or see what He is trying to show us. The gifts are still in use for today and He gives gifts to us to use for His glory. We need to get closer to God, stay close to Him so that we can be the salt and the light of the earth. (Matthew 5:13-16) God knows the matters of our hearts and He knows the pain we feel and He also loves us and never leaves us, when we are at our worst is when He is the closest to us waiting for us to let Him embrace us.

Inspiration

God has never left my side and I know He never leaves yours. If you are currently struggling in your faith, break the barriers down and let God in because He never leaves us (Deuteronomy 31:6) During my years of waiting for my disability appeal after two denials we have struggled long and hard, not once when we were faced with a problem financially did God leave us, He provided for us in ways that only God can...receiving random checks for overpayments or underpayments on refunds, payments as gifts from a family member one time because i completed college years ago, so many times, it is all in His timing but God is GOOD, All the time! The Bible verse I leaned on a lot there were actually two were Jeremiah 29:11-13 (AMP) "

For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Seek Him, talk to Him, love Him because He loves you unconditionally no matter how hard the struggle, God is there for you!

The other verse I leaned on is from Romans 8:28 (NKJV) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

We are all called according to His purpose, we are all His children. No matter what the struggle, no matter how many times you fall, God will pick you up. Don't let your disabilities stop you from doing the will of God, grow stronger in God because of it and He will bless you abundantly!

Never Give Up

Truth

I have had a hard time myself accepting the limitations I have had to be confronted with, losing the ability to do everything I loved doing. Learning new things to enjoy is far from easy and it is a mental situation in learning to overcome this and accept your body for its differences in your opinion about how life should be, this is where God can fill that void. Don't feel ashamed for feeling bad, don't give up because theres more ahead that when you open up to God it will give you a whole new purpose, a whole new perspective on who you are and who you have become. Struggles like these take a toll there is no doubt in that, but when we let go and let God, the possibilities are endless...seek help from brothers and sisters in Christ and you can even contact me if you wish eternalgrace3@gmail.com. I wish you the best and never give up!
