The Ekklesia is not a Church Building

Portable Tabernacle
Portable Tabernacle

What happens when someone is saved and there is no “local” modern church in their area? What are they to do when there is no “church” to go to with other Christians in it? If you do not attend “church” on Sunday, then you might not be considered a believer at all. If you are one of those people, do not fret; the Word of God will reveal who, or what the “local ekklesia” really are.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. – 1 Corinthians 3:9

This verse does not say that we are in a building, but we are “God’s building.”

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? – Acts 7:48-49

In the Old Testament, the Israelite's had a portable tabernacle, but when King Solomon built the first fixed one the result was that it became a worship place of other pagan gods. To this day, man is still trying to erect their own "temples” of worship and say that is the place where you can go and meet God. They do this in in the name of God, but the fact is that over time, through the diaprax of compromise, the “local” modern church will conform the traditions of man, and the idolatry that becomes more about about the man-made building and the agenda within it.

Stephen was stoned for speaking against the Jewish temple.

This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.- Acts 6:13-14

Today, you will most likely be called a heretic for saying that there is no need for a “church” building for people to go into to worship Jesus Christ. We do not need to go to a temple, tabernacle, synagogue, or “church” building to meet God and have the truth dispensed to us from a pulpit or platform from the “priest class” to a passive audience. The true and genuine ekklesia are not supposed to be a permanent fixture on a prime piece of real estate in your local neighborhood, but is to be portable in nature. It is supposed to go out to the hurt and the lost, not the other way around. The modern "church" expects the lost to come to them to find truth. Where in the New Testament does it say to erect a building and invite the lost to come into it? The true believers (ekklesia) are living stones who are supposed to go out and save the lost. Saved souls are the ekklesia.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. - 1 Peter 2:5

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. – 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

The verse says, “Which temple ye are,” not which temple ye attend. There is a very clear distinction in this verse. The people that go to the modern “local churches” display completely different behaviors when they are in the "church" building. They are on good behavior so that they will not defile themselves in such a “holy” place. The carnal “Christians” carry on in their behaviors during the week, but on Sunday in the church building, they are “plastic fantastic.” If they would truly understand that their bodies are the church/tabernacle of God they might behave differently. What you choose to do “in church,” at home, or out on the town should be considered the same thing. If you smoke, drink, and fornicate at home, you are doing it in the church because you are the church.

Are you “in church” just on Sundays, or are you the ekklesia all the time?

There is a big difference. To most people, their "church" life is summed up on one, or two days a week “in church.” Many people have asked me, “Where do you go to church?” My reply is, “How do you go to church if you are the ekklesia?” I often get this blank stare from them as they think I must be out of my mind. The fact is, I am one of the ekklesia seven days a week.

Church Board
Church Board
"How can we get more people in the door?"
"How can we get more people in the door?"

The "church" building is a hungry “beast” that has a ferocious appetite for the monetary. There are expenses such as, the mortgage, building maintenance, clergy/staff salaries, lawn/landscape maintenance, utilities, etc.., which must be kept up. The list could go on and on. How much of the monetary is applied to getting to know Jesus Christ more intimately, learning Scripture, and GOING OUT to the hurt, needy, and lost. Most of the typical “pew warmers” know very little about Scripture at all. All that they consume is the “cotton candy” that the pastor spews from the pulpit to tickle their ears. The false doctrine of tithing is promoted to manipulate those into filling the offering baskets. The announcements are all about getting volunteers to sign up for the endless “to do” list that is all about what goes on IN THE BUILDING.

Do these type of behaviors really develop a more mature intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, or is it more about the relationship with the "church" building?

The incorporated "church" system has failed because it runs on a worldly system of operation. It has become all about the bottom line where the board members run the activities of the "church" entity. The ekklesia are people whose activities are run by the working of the Holy Spirit in them. Waiting for a priesthood to do things for you will lead to a dead end. You must learn by the guiding of the Holy Spirit that to learn to seek out truth for yourself. The “local” modern "church" that markets products and services does not offer the true gospel; they have turned the true Gospel into a business instead.

"Open wide, here comes the choo choo train!”
"Open wide, here comes the choo choo train!”

Is the Gospel about having a store front? When the salvation message is preached over and over each week in church to get the random couple, or person saved so that they can become members, it is essentially about obtaining a licence to tap into their wallets. There are people who want to consume solid food, but they are not getting it. The CEO (pastor) is too busy trying to fill the pews so that he can go home with a paycheck. The pastor is not supposed to have all the answers; instead, each one of us should be studying the Bible on our own and weighing and testing to see if what the pastor says is actually truth.

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. – 2 Timothy 2:1-2

Pastors are supposed feed the flock solid food. The ekklesia are not supposed to get it from one sole person, but from others too. We must learn to compare and contrast Scripture with the words of men among many witnesses. No one person is infallible. If pastors neglect to feed the flock proper food, then the flock will not mature and grow to learn how to find food for themselves, or others. Unfortunately, the modern "church" is filled with adults that need to be spoon fed. The pastor has to say, “Here comes the choo choo train!” so he can spoon feed the pabulum into their mouths. The "pew warmers" do not know how to function as “living stones.” If you cannot feed yourself and others, you will be useless in expanding the kingdom of God.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. – Revelation 3:20

And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water. – Exodus 29:4

These two verses reveal two different doctrines to two different people groups. Aaron, who was the high priest of the Levite priesthood had control of the door of the tabernacle to the Israelite congregation. In contrast, Jesus Christ is our High Priest and we (the ekklesia) are the tabernacle. We do not need a priesthood to open the door for us, all we have to do is open the door and let Jesus Christ in ourselves. The Pope, or pastor will make you believe it is only them who can open the door for you. The truth is that you are the one who is in control.

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus – Hebrews 3:1

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. – Hebrew 4:14-15

Jesus Christ knows what we are personally going through in our lives and truly understands us because He went through all the temptations, trials, and tribulations as a man also. He can be our High Priest because He made it through without sinning. No clergy member can claim the infallibility of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ washes us with His blood, not via the priesthood.

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. – Revelation 1:5-6

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. – Ephesians 5:25-27

Our physical bodies are the temple, Jesus Christ is the High Priest, and we are washed by His blood and cleansed by the Word of God. His blood washes our sins away and we stay clean by washing ourselves in His Word. It is living according to His standards. You cannot know His standards by not studying them. Sitting passively in a modern "church" pew is not going to wash and cleanse you in the Word of God.

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. – Psalm 119:9

Spending time studying the Word is so much more important than your social status in the "church." Your social status with Jesus Christ should take precedence. We are His dwelling place. We are the building. We are the ekklesia. If you believe the “church” is where you go, then you have been deceived. Making a place in your mind and heart for Jesus Christ is not in the "church" building, but among the ekklesia.

The modern "church" has forsaken the Gospel for the all-inclusive social club that takes place in the building.

Do you go to church, or are you among the ekklesia?

Jesus Christ never mentioned that we are to join a "church" building and become members in some denomination. What He did say is that we are to be separate. Even the Israelite's who were the distinct people of God, were to be holy and separate from the heathen nations. Shouldn't we also separate ourselves from the traditions of man?

The modern “church” has become like the Jewish synagogue centers of worship, with the "clergy" teaching the "laity" the things of God. What is called "Christianity" has been lost in the traditions of man that believe that you must go to "church," rather than being the ekklesia. We are the tabernacle of God. Going to the "church" has become idolatry. The modern "churches" are eating off the table of Satan. God destroyed the Jewish temple two times, and He will do it again because it honors antichrist, instead of Jesus Christ. The modern "churches" have erected their own “temples” for men and have become an abomination to God.

The pastors in the modern "church" are honoring themselves and their legacies, and history reveals that this behavior will bring wrath and judgement. King Nebuchadnezzar proclaimed Babylon in honor of his majesty, but God made him to eat grass like an ox. Restoration to God only comes from giving Him all the thanksgiving and glory. The modern "church" will hate you for truth, but will only love you as long as you do not hinder their cash flow. Just like Israel, the modern "church" has taken Canaanite women as wives. The result is that their offspring have become genetically debased and Godless.

A true believer in Jesus Christ is the true temple of Jesus Christ. Do not fall for the man-made counterfeit.

Do you go to Church, or are you the ekklesia?

"The incorporated church system has failed because it runs on a worldly system of operation." Amen to that. You make several good points. Just a question, an honest question. Could it be that people build churches to accommodate the "assembling" (Hebrews 10:25)? I am aware that they could assemble without all the hype.

it could be, but unfortunatrly most are to accommodate a man's ego and power

The shed blood of Jesus Christ would have rendered any temple that is built with mans hands desolate before the first stone could be laid. People will build churches to accommodate the "assembling," but it is backwards thinking. The kingdom of God/ Gospel is about going out into the world, not about building a stage and pulpit for "peacocks" to parade themselves upon.

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands - Acts 17:24

Most people don't realize that you actually have to leave the building to reach the hurt, lost and needy. If you took the thousands of people out of the "mega church" to clean up garbage, or serve in some capacity in the community, even if it was for an hour and a half once a week, they would see the power of God working right in front of your eyes. You cannot do this by being mute, passive, and tithing to the corporate "church" so that it will not go out of business. It is impossible for the true genuine church to go bankrupt because they can be mobile and move where the Holy spirit leads. Unfortunately, the masses believe that the "feel-goods" and hype that happens in the man-made buildings is the Holy Spirit moving; this is delusion. You can either continue by offering yourself and your family to this idolatry, or leave the building and be what the true and genuine church really is about. Unfortunately, most don't know what it is like outside of their four walled world. That is why most people will ask, "Where do you go to church?"

It is a blessing and a rarity to know someone who is like-minded. Thank-you for your encouragement.

How far the "church" has fallen. Many do not believe, or live with the belief that God’s word is inerrant. The modern "church" only teaches parts of the Bible that are deemed "agreeable" and the "disagreeable" parts are discarded because they would ruffle too many feathers. Most will refuse to reconcile their lives with the purity of God’s word, even when the truth is right in front of them. They toss the truth out and write their own version of the "Bible" to fit with their chosen lifestyle and what goes on in within the "four walls."

I am so grateful for this post! You have no idea how I truly needed to hear this, because it is all confirmation to me! The Lord has led me out and I intend to stay out. I was just delivered from The Word of Faith teachings after 21 years and it is to be honest quite embarrassing to realize just how deceived I was. Unfortunately my husband still attends and is in leadership. We are divided in our beliefs which truly grieves me, but I am praying he will wake up! I am definitely being looked at as a rebellious person, backslidden and accused of being "off" I choose to follow Jesus! I cannot follow the teachings of a man any longer who also claims that Jesus died spiritually. And make sure you pay your tithe before you leave or you are cursed. So much false doctrine! Anyway I just wanted to say thank you because I now know I am not "off"

I want to encourage you as a brother in Jesus Christ that you are not alone and that there are others who have, or are going through the same situation as you. Keep digging into God's truth and He will show you more than you have ever known. It is only through Him, not through the traditions of man. Be encouraged and be blessed, you are free and no longer "dead" in that bondage, but you are "living stone" who has come out to be an example of God's true power working in your life.

During the time of Jesus Christ here on earth, His miracles were attributed to the power of Satan. Today, it is the other way around, the power of Satan is being attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit. That is why so many are deceived in the apostate modern "church."

I can attest to the freedom and confidence that has resulted from leaving the man-made "church" building and their traditions. True followers of Jesus Christ are called out to speak truth. Others will curse, pray their soulish prayers, and call you "backslidden" and accuse you of many things. Stay strong, abide in Him, and pray for those who are deceived that they will wake up. It will be a battle, but keep pressing into Him for strength to endure. You are an overcomer, and you are not alone.

Thank-you for sharing what you are going through. I will pray for you.

God Bless!

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. - John 8:32

Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. - Luke 6:22

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. - James 1:12

Good morning brother.

All I can say to this is amen, amen and amen.

When I used to go to church before and after the service there was only one other person that wanted to talk about Jesus. Everybody else wanted to talk about their social life not mentioning Jesus. Ant that was a church with over three hundred members.

The Spirit lives in us and we are to be the welcoming temple through Him.

God bless you with fellowship with other temples of Christ.

When your computer starts working properly, please elaborate on what you wanted to share. It is encouraging that every comment here so far has been affirming. The theme of this article for a lot of people who are within the "four walls" of the modern "church" would require a radical change of thinking to understand what the temple of God truly is. I am so encouraged that you get it.

God Bless!

You have touched on social club aspect of what goes on in the man-made temples. Is this what the Gospel is all about?

Unfortunately, it is extremely rare to find a group of believers who actually train up and send OUT. The modern "steepled" building wants you to bring IN the money and stay IN for the "ministry" time. It's completely backwards.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. - Revelation 2:29

The true and genuine followers of Jesus Christ are to be servants, not to be served. The modern "church" wants you to pay your dues within the building before you can have your privileged rights and status among men. There are also the "church shoppers" who look for a "church" who will best serve their "needs" with entertainment and "ministry" products. Is this how a true Biblical church is measured?

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches - Revelation 3:22

The true church is not social organization to meet the needs of the masses. The elite tithers expect to have Platinum status with greater privileges, acknowledgement, and accolades as they "peacock" around the auditorium.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. - Matthew 6:2

A true follower of Jesus Christ will desire to actually read and study the truth that is in Word of God. The true Gospel manifests in those who serve others; the result will be God showing your place in in Him, and also bring healing in your life as well as others. We can't have one without the other. In order to truly serve there must be humility, and a hungry spirit for truth in order to grow. We must be grafted in the Tree of Life, not the "steeple." We will not grow from the en"titled" pastor spoon feeding us "pablum" from the pulpit.

Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? - Isaiah 66:1

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands - Acts 7:48

You have got it. The genuine church is the "welcoming temple through Him," that is where Jesus Christ dwells.

PlanksandNail- I guess most christians don't realize the the Body of Christ are those of the Church. As in "Individuals". I believe all these man made churches are mostly a joke. The one's who attend these man made churches are what I refer to as "the 1 1/2 hour aweek christians". They are the one's who are spoon fed the bible and their church doctrine.

It is sad that I have a relative that is a member of a church that is concidered a cult. As much as I've tried, using the bible, to show her the doctrine they teach is way out in left field, she remain blinded by their doctrine. Is has been an ongoing issue between her and I for about seven years now.

Many churches threaten to kick out members if they question their church doctrine.

What I don't understand is many who attend man made churches do so because "they teach the closest to what I believe". So what does this "closest" mean? Is there some doubt in their doctrine they question? but are afraid to confront their church with. Or point out error in their doctrine. This is the very reason I left my church 34 years ago. I questioned their doctrine and it didn't go well with them at all.

Since that time I am very happy with my relationship with God and our LOrd Jesus Christ. And because of my own studies over the years I've come to learn and understand a great deal of the Kingdom of God ( which is something 98% of churches never teach) and His Grace towards us.

Anyway, I fully agree with your Hub PandN. Great Hub Voted up and awesome

Since I have come out of, and not partaken in the traditions of man, God has given me more clarity discernment than I ever had before. Many in the modern "church" are blinded by oppression and cannot see the truth even when presented with the evidence right in front of them. I have had people refuse to read important truths about the false doctrines that they choose to believe in and promote. I believe that their "kingdoms" that they have made for themselves would crumble before their eyes if they understood what they are really doing. Many are afraid to lose their job, positions, titles, friends, and social status etc... for fear if that they stood up for truth they would lose these things. Most of the "sheeple" ride the fence or remain passive and let the clergy lord over them. They will see you as a threat, but it is actually out of love that you want them to know the genuine truth. If you didn't, you wouldn't really care what they did.

I believe the term church has been so abused that it will take a radical paradigm shift for a lot of people to understand what God's purpose for His body truly is. I believe if we come to that revelation, we will be prepared when Jesus Christ comes for His bride.

Don't give up, keep praying for your relative. God Bless.

Hi Planks,

I am back and able to explain. A few years ago I realized that for many people the proof that you are a Christian is being able to say that you belong to a church that has a 'good strong name'.

I cannot count the many times when I am in the middle of talking about the things of the Lord and I am interrupted because they want to know what church I go to and where I fellowship. When I say I fellowship with other Christians and that I do not have a specific building because fellowship has to do with who and not where, I promptly get invited to their church.

I have experienced the shallowness and the complete coldness that exists in many a church. God's name is called upon for their glory and their good and His will has nothing to do with theirs.

The world says that there are however million Christians alive today, but I do not believe this to be true or, if it is, the millions are not the ones that are in the statistics books. They do not boast. They do not see finances as the proof of the favor of God. They know that the favor of God is His promise that He will be a Stronghold in the day of trouble. Christians know that a day of trouble is likely. They know that at all times God is good. They trust in His word and do not follow men who call out that they know Christ because He gave them a fancy suit of clothes and a t.v. show. They follow Christ and not men who elevate themselves and declare their own greatness.

The Holy Spirit declared that Jesus was to be followed. He declared it and not a man. I have a serious problem when people speak too much about how great their preacher or pastor is because I believe all glory goes to God. I have an even bigger problem when the preacher, pastor or priest allows the adulation and does not cast it at the feet of Christ and rebuke those who would turn him into a god.

Jesus rebuked the pharasee for making sure that he was "down on the street corner" when the hour of prayer came, that everyone could see him worshiping God. Then the pharasee built a building "down on the corner".

Thank-you for sharing your perspective. I agree with you.

Unfortunately, many are blind to seeing the truth in what you have shared and will find it offensive and an attack on their precious "pastor." The modern "church" will have their earthly glory among men, but will be left behind when Jesus comes for His bride. The "sheeple" will then "crucify" their "pastor" when they realize that they have been deceived.

We must continue to contend for truth in hope that others will come out of the traditions of man within the "four walls."

The Ekklesia is what Jesus' Father, ALHYM (See Genesis 1:1 interlinear Hebrew For Greek press top RHS) ) created on SHAVUOT, Pentecost, 50 days after PESACH, Passover 30AD. (Acts 2:47 Interlinear Greek).

Jerome, a Catholic monk or someone around his time translated the Greek word Ekklesia as a Latin word "ecclesiam" which eventually became the English word "Church."

The word Ekklesia is found 111 times in the New Covenant (or Testament) according to Strong';s Concordance. It is made-up of of 3 Greek words - 'Ek' = out of, 'Kaleo' = call out, and Klesia= the assembly. The short definition of Ekklesia is therefore "The called out ones"

So we find that the called out ones were the Jews called out of of their world - the Jewish society which was dominated by the Great Jerusalem Temple , and its sacrificial system, and the religious bondages caused by The Law, all 613 ( including the 10 Commandments) them which not even the religious leaders could keep.

The point about the word Ekklesia is that no church comes even close to looking like or even feeling like what the Holy Spirit created on Pentecost. The Church of Rome changed the word Ekklesia to Church (Ecclesiam) to justify its own existence and so-called Christian authority, with its unBiblical hierarchical division of Priests and Laity (not priests), and emphasis on church doctrine and practices which when put under the Light of the New Covenant, reveal the paganism which they demanded people who entered the church system accept without question.

The Church of Rome gained scriptural authority by giving the world a wrong translation of Matthew 16:18 which "christendom" has not challenged. The accepted translation makes Jesus say " You are Peter and on this rock I will build My Church." However, if you go to the original Greek interlinear, you will discover that it should be translated accurately as "You are Peter ( which means a sliver, a little piece of rock, a pebble) and on this the Rock ( Greek 'Te Petra' which never refers to a human being, but ALHYM or Jesus - see 1 Corinthians 10:4) I will rebuild the households (oikodomeso - root is oikos, household, future tense) of those I will call out of the assembly (Greek 'ekklesian' future tense of root word 'ekklesia'). When did this happen? On SHAVUOT ,Pentecost 30AD when the Holy Spirit was poured out of heaven by ALHYM and He created the EKKLESIA, of the new heavenly men and women (1 Corinthians 15: 48; Ephesians 2:19-21) which included 120 or so disciples who had to wait in the upper room for the promise of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24: 49; Acts 1: 12-15) , plus about 3,000 Jewish men (Acts 2:336-41). They lived together sharing everything, and we learn later that they even sold their investments and laid all the proceeds at the feet of the apostles (Acts 4:34-35). That is the Ekklesia. No church comes within a mile/km of achieving this for their congregations.

Each disciple and their oikos ( household) became the living parts of Jesus' glorified body, knit and joined together (Ephesians 4: 16). Their oikoi ( households) were rebuilt to line-up with Jesus' specifications (Ephesians 5: 17- 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:3) governed by a team of Elders (men who met the stringent requirements as holy role models Ephesians 4:11; 1 Timothy 3; Titus 1). The center of salvation is therefore not any church but the oikos ( household eg. Acts 16:31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you and your household will be saved").

Don't be fooled or misled. Check it out for yourself. Look up the scriptures. "Do not despise prophecies [ Holy Scripture, prophets] Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." (2 Thessalonians 5: 20-22). We must be like the Bereans who checked everything out against Scripture (Acts 17:11).

We've been beautifully conned, brainwashed, by the Church of Rome ( Roman Catholic Church). They make a point of quoting Matthew 16:18 in the coronation of their popes!

We need to follow the resurrected and glorified JESUS THE CHRIST - He alone is the mediator between ABBA Father and Man ( 1 Timothy 2:5) Sola Scriptura!!
