Does A Vampire Live In Highgate Cemetery In London England

It was on December 21 1969 that a dark gray shape was spotted in Highgate Cemetery by David Farrant who was in the cemetery at the time looking for paranormal activity and ghosts. At the time the dilapidated and overgrown cemetery was being vandalized almost on a nightly basis by intruders.

After the news came out about the dark gray shape many other people came forward telling of the dark gray shape. Many said it was a man dressed in a black suit with a top hat and a gray cape. When you looked at him in the fog it was said that he would appear at times to float among the tomb stones. Other people said that the man would approach them and snarl at them. Some people said it was a ghost while other people said it was a solid man with teeth like fangs that could only be described as a vampire. Other people said that it might even be the vampire Dracula himself who was being seen around Highgate Cemetery but especially around the Egyptian Avenue entrance to the cemetery which is in the photo above.

Other people at the same time said they saw a man you could see through riding a bicycle, a figure that walked into a pond over and over, a face that glared out of a gate at people, a woman in a white dress that seemed to glide around, ringing bells, laughter, and pleas for mercy. Since the 1960s people have told of seeing the Gray Man over and over. Some have even gone as far as to claim they saw the Gray Man holding a fox in his arms and his teeth attached to its throat. Since the late 1960s many dead foxes with their throats torn out have been found in the cemetery.

The Wallachia Vampire Story

There has been a consistent story told over the years that a medieval vampire was brought to the area in a large wooden coffin in the late 1800's and that he had practiced black magic in medieval Wallachia. The story went on to say that the nobleman vampire had fled Wallachia to escape vampire hunters who were hunting him and seeking to destroy him. Some have even gone as far as to say that this vampire was Count Dracula.

It is told that the very old vampire had been buried in his coffin in the area of what was to become Highgate Cemetery. The story goes on to say that the old vampire rested for a time but he was awaken by Satanists in the mid 1960s and he took their lives for waking him from his slumber. Some people claim that the old vampire was several thousand years old and that his skin was very hard. Some people have told of seeing the man who looked almost as if his skin was made of wax.

It is strange to note that in the late 1960s was when foxes with their throats torn out and drained of blood began to show up in the cemetery. Over the years there have been several occasions when people have been found dead with their throats torn out. And they were also drained of blood. Something was killing the foxes in Highgate Cemetery and the culprit was never caught.

Does A Vampire Walk In Highgate Cemetery

There have been reports since 1960 of strange things happening in and around Highgate Cemetery in London England. Some of those strange things include large dogs and other animals found in the area of the cemetery with their throats torn out and all their blood missing. What is feeding on the blood from these animals. Is it a vampire trying to stay out of the spotlight by feeding on the blood of animals instead of humans.

Highgate Vampire Spotted

If it was an animal feeding on the other animals it would eat all of the dead animals or at least part of them not just the blood. And this thing what ever it is feeding on the blood of animals has been going on since at least 1960. And in April of 2001 a lady came running down Swains Lane out of her mind with terror and when she calmed enough she told that she had walked up on a man that looked almost wax like in his features bent over a large dog with his mouth to its throat. She said when she started screaming the man had leaped the wall back into Highgate Cemetery. The large mongrel dog was found and its throat was indeed torn out. Police attempted to find the man but were unable to do so. And that is not the only story told of the man feeding on the blood of animals. He is almost always described as real white looking with almost wax like features. And it is said that he has superhuman strength. The woman in the story above said that the man leaped 12 feet over a wall with ease. Police did indeed find blood on both sides of the cemetery fence.

Other people have told quite similar stories over the years and continue to do so today. A police bulletin for the area in May of this year asks police officers to be on the look out for large animals drained of blood and to be on the look out for what ever or who ever is doing it.

Over the years people have gone into the cemetery trying to find the hiding place of the large wooden coffin of the ancient vampire said to be hiding in the cemetery.

Many times in the 1970s through the 1990s vampire hunters have been arrested in and around the cemetery but they have all been released and the charges dropped when the cases come to court. Are the police covering up for the ancient vampire.

It is a well known documented historical fact that catacombs exist beneath the cemetery and people have even walked across the cemetery and fallen into the catacombs below their feet. It would appear there are many places where the ancient vampires coffin could been hidden.

On December 24th 2011 a young woman's body was found in the cemetery. The ground around her body looked undisturbed and the young woman's head was missing. There was no blood on the ground and the young woman's head has never been found. Nor has her identity ever been determined. Did the ancient vampire take her life. We will most likely never know the truth. But something very strange is going on in Highgate Cemetery.

One of the main entrances to the Highgate Cemetery. This is the Egyptian Avenue Entrance To Highgate Cemetery.

Many people down throughout the years have said that it is a King Vampire that lives in Highgate Cemetery. There have been reports that he was brought to Highgate Cemetery from Wallachia in what is now Southern Romania. The story goes that he was a medieval nobleman that had practiced black magic and had became a member of the undead, a vampire. And by the time he was smuggled into Highgate Cemetery in the early 1800's he was already a King Vampire. And it is said that even today his coffin is hidden in Highgate Cemetery where it remains to this day.

Human Remains Of The Vampire Have Been Found

On Friday March 13th 1970 yes 1970 a massive vampire hunt was undertaken to try to find and drive a stake through the heart of the vampire but the hunt was not successful and several people who took part in the hunt were reported missing and are still reported as missing today.

On August 1 1970 a headless woman's body was found in Highgate Cemetery. The really strange thing that was reported was that there was no blood in or around the body. And it was determined that the woman was one of the missing people from the failed vampire hunt. A massive police search was carried out but her head was never found and lots of dead animals with no blood in them were found in Highgate Cemetery.

Two headless female bodies were found in the Highgate Cemetery on November 10th 2006. Again it was reported there was no blood in or around the bodies so it would appear that something or someone was drinking or removing the blood in some way. The two bodies were never identified and their heads were never found. The two bodies had been posed on the ground holding hands.

And police say that the way Highgate Cemetery is overgrown and in such bad repair that there could be many bodies hid in the cemetery and you would never find them.

So there may indeed be a very old King of the Vampires living today in Highgate Cemetery. So if your ever in the area of Highgate Cemetery use care least you become a meal for the vampire.

I read most of what is there in old London newspapers and some of it I was told by a Caretaker at the cemetery.

Hello Thomas, I was wondering where did you red about those decapitations, the jump and the animals with throats torn out, was it on Bishop Sean Manchester book? Again I was really amazed by this page, I wish we could talk more, I really admire your research on the subjetc. Thanks!

Interesting! I've lived in London for 8 years and have lived a couple of stops on the tube from Highgate and been past the cemetery numerous times. Never did see anything, but it is definitely a very creepy place and I think there is more to it than just a vampire. There are pubs in Highgate that are supposedly haunted too, such as The Gatehouse and The Flask.

I love looking into all these articles of real life vampires. Sure some of them seem like hoax's but then you find articles like this and it makes you believe just that much more. I would love to see this graveyard and actually explore it. I'm not afraid of death for the simple fact that it's inevitable so going in there knowing I could be drained of my blood does not scare me. I have been reading a lot of Crazyhorsesghost story's and must say that your story's have made my beliefs skyrocket! I would just like to say Thank you Crazyhorsesghost for the information you have provided me and the continued information you keep me updated with.

alishia:

Very good point.....

arjel:

From what I have heard they have old records and by the sounds they do not care to keep up with them. Otherwise why would the cemetery look so awful? They tried to prove that he was in his own grave and even the villiage thought that it was a disgrace to dig him up. They thought that Vlad would haunt them forever, however it still happened and they all were in shock.

Remember that back then if they wanted to hide a secret they sure did not keep it on paper like we do now. So there is no way of knowing anything. That is what sucks. You cannot tell if something is true or not because it is hearsay. You either believe with an added opinion or you do not believe and leave it to the believers. I think anything is possible in this day and age. Heck, back then if you told them we would be flying like a bird in the sky, an airplane, they wouldn't of believed you and laughed calling you crazy. They didn't have the word "airplane" then so it would be a bird...... just remember that anything is possible and I do think something deep and secret is in this cemetery.

EVERYTHING HAS A STORY, as does everyone...

arjel 4 years ago

is there any evidence can proof that the blood count from wallachia rather his remain were moved on highgate cemetery?

alishia 4 years ago

I for one didn't know that they dug up vlads body and found a skeleton of a dog that is very interesting to me....if u think about it it could be Vlad at the high gate cemetary...for after all he was a man of power....and the graveyard isn't to far from where he lived...

motimerhead:

Yes I do, however I have lost some interest because of the simple fact that people do not take things seriously anymore. Unless slapped in the face some how with it or a serious scare, then they care and don't mess around with the truth. So I do however at the same time I do not do it as often anymore.

I have come to dead ends. Nice touch right? LOL. -Joke-

I would love to learn more or find a lead that does not lead to fake people or just a "myth" about them. Any ideas?

How about you? Any research of your own?

motimberhead 4 years ago

@Susan

I couldn't agree with you more. All it takes is a few misinterpreted events that get blown out if proportion and BAM you have the Highgate cemetary vampire. Do you do much research on vampires on your own?

Susan Renne profile image

Susan Renne 4 years ago from Casper, Wyoming

motimberhead:

Yes, and thank you. Well that is a very huge possibility. Also to add to Count Vlad, legend has it that they dug up his grave.... he was not there! Only a skeleton of a dog. People of the town became very scared and sense then there has been rumors of his castle being haunted and more. Though no one has ever proved it.... Highgate would be perfect for a lot of things that need to be hidden.

One seed of fear can make a tree.

One tree of fear can make a forest.

One forest of fear can make a world.

That is one of my personal beliefs. Even though us humans are a great number in life, that does not mean we are not gullible. It is easy to feed fear, it is not easy to correct it. Therefore, now that people are scared of this cemetery, it creats a world of hidden secrets.

motimberhead 4 years ago

@susan r

Wow I must say I never thought I would find someone else on here that can form an articulated, well thought out, and meaningful opinion. It also helps that you can actually spell, use correct grammar, and don't "text type" your comments. You raised some rather interesting points, the caretaker or grounds keeper of the cemetary may also be watching out for the vampire(s). Maybe, since these killings have been going on for such a long time, and legends say a noble from Romania(interesting point that's the same country Count Vlad was from) was brought here that maybe the family of the caretaker/grounds keeper has been the trusted keeper of this vampire for centuries and this is just a duty passed along through generations. So sometime ago things got too dangerous in Romania and the caretakers had to move the vampire to some place far away, maybe Highgate cemetary?

What paranormal things have happened to you? Why are you a little paranoid, Inna?

Inna :) 4 years ago

Omg im like obsesed with Vampires, and i love reading this story's.

And i really want to go and wisit Highgate Cemetery.

Im a little paranoid, and i had strange paranormal things happen to me, so i believe in vampires, and all kinds of myts.

Susan Renne profile image

Susan Renne 4 years ago from Casper, Wyoming

Here is another thought. How do we all not know that the caretaker is also a care taker for the vampire? How do the animals get in there in the first place? If there really is a vampire then animals can smell them and sense to stay away because of the evil. How do we not know that the care taker is the one feeding the vampire and along the way the vampire is catching a few humans. Think, it would be the perfect cover up or hoax.

I would clean it, what and be scared of death? Nah, I know where I am headed. Nothing to worry about. Might be a little freaky but could find some awesome stuff also. I love grave yards. They are so peaceful, every time I go in the one where I live I am so relaxed I could sleep instantly. I don't know why either but I have been that way sense I was a little girl. I believe the only thing that scares me is some of the bizarre paranormal. Like the possessions and things like that. That is the only thing that really makes my head turn. Otherwise I am really laid back for all the rest.

I've wanted to know what it would look like if they killed all the weeds and over growing plants. Maybe find some ancient graves.... or maybe its covered up for a reason. Never seen a graveyard so poorly taken care of inside.... hmmmm

Susan Renne profile image

Same here.... only because I have children and want to be here for them always. Other wise I wouldn't care what happens to me. I would go monster hunting. However I have to say I think about this story at least everyday. I wonder a lot if when the kids are older, if I should visit an maybe get lost and see..... I cant help but wonder. I am sure they do not live in this graveyard however its fully known that no one wouldn't go far enough in there... soooo I guess it would be the perfect place. But seriously you want a graveyard for a home?? I ponder on that as well.

Very interesting point of view Susan, food for thought

Susan Renne 4 years ago

How interesting.... fits the description of an ancient though doesn't mean this "vampire" is an actual vampire. What really interests me is how he wont kill humans at first, then over the years he does? Is it because no one bellieves in them now? Is it because he is angry and fed up on how life continues to drag on? Is it because he is a good man but these people he came across weren't? Tons of good and bad things to reason with. My personal opinion is that it could be a serial killer trying to repeat the killings- however they do not have a name for him so that would mean it is not possible. People that want to repeat killers have to have a serial killer fame name. So can't be that. It is either someone with a disorder, disease, and cannot help himself or he, she, is an actual vampire that is mad and angry. I do not advise to go venturing even if in numbers... look at what happened to that party! Speaking of that, he may have turned some of them... if he wanted to be hunted no more he would have made it clear by showing the bodies and what he has done to them. So.... I think and believe he turned them. As for the bodies that are beheaded, he probably did that for a disgrace of some kind.... If it was a serial killer he would make a name for himself and it wouldn't be spread out in years with huge gaps.... it would be often because of the urge.... Hope this helps with opinions. P.S. Why would vamps even bother with being on this sight or any sight for that matter? They have better things to do, the nice ones anyway not wanting to "play"... just a thought. I wouldn't want to "Play" with them, you might get more than what you bargained for.

couldn't the women have killed the animal her self then planted the blood on the walls her self and couldn't the draind headless bodies have been the acts of an insane killers (for many resons) he/she could have killed the girl draind her body (through any way) then dumped it somewere else were it would be spotted and the stories would continue she/he gets to kill and its blamed on a vampire this would explain why ther was no blood to be found in on and around the dead body? im just saying

hewitt 4 years ago

I believe what you say.... I cant exolain it but i feel their presence and its the most indescribable feeling. I beieve they want to remain hidden for such purposrs such like privacy. For any real vampires id love to meet them just to learn about then. Even before a vampire mania hit the world ive always been intrigued by them. To know their story, their life before immortality would be absolutelu amaxing. I truly do appreciate crazyhorse for all the work and research she has done about vampires. Thank you and on behalf of Peter i can certainly understand why he left. Personally it isn't right to hassle vampires or beg to be changed, giving out emails, or addresses. Who wants to be bothered when they've continuously repeated " No I will not change you." For any real vampire out there, a good vampire, you have my respect.
