Escaping the Grip of Spiritual Babylon: The Church System

Ingrained Indoctrination
Ingrained Indoctrination

Spiritual Babylon is a familiar place called the modern “church” that has ingrained its concepts and ideologies into its citizens (members). Her charms are enticing with entertainment, programs, and music that is familiar to the senses. Without discernment, many do not know how to filter out, or make the distinction between what is of man and what is of the Spirit.

Spiritual Babylon operates by drawing people into buildings that are under the umbrella of a denomination that separates and segregates people. The modern "church" has not become a locality of people within a city, but separated into their own individual buildings as monuments of deception. Within the “four walls,” the ideologies and traditions of man separate and create division from other believers according to the denomination of their allegiance. All the traditional concepts of “church” are bound within their particular system where meetings are mandatory for the existence of clergy and laity structure. The meetings are at predetermined times with predetermined programs that do not promote the functioning of everyone as the Holy Spirit leads.

The ekklesia are not under the demands of the salaried hirelings to have a mandatory meeting, but have an assembly when the Holy Spirit wants to speak to His people. The Babylon system makes it a requirement that a professional speaker preaches to the mute masses at a scheduled time. It is a requirement, or the "ordained minister" does not get paid.

There is nowhere in the New Testament where there the ekklesia were part of a ritualistic structure of Sunday programs, sermons and hymns (singing), etc...

The New Testament ekklesia were able to have discourse with one another where everyone had the opportunity to speak, or contribute in some way as open ministry.

A different perspective.
A different perspective.

"Attendance"

The modern “church” has become stagnant and ritualistic in nature. The sins of this corrupt system are coming to the forefront in the latest headlines as they are being exposed for what they truly are. All the glossed up hype of “Holy Spirit” movements, conferences, books, ministry schools, seminaries, etc.., have been exposed as products of spiritual Babylon.

God is calling His people to come out the "harlot daughters" that are denominations and enter into the New Spiritual Jerusalem. It means no longer associating with man-made institutions and organizations that mean absolutely nothing in God’s Kingdom. The modern “church” with its regal structures appeal to the flesh, but the Kingdom of God can only be seen with spiritual eyes. The purposes of God through His people can only be fulfilled apart from the Babylonian “church” system of traditional “church” religion of "attendance."

"COME OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues – Revelation 18:4

It requires letting go of doing all the things that are done in the name of God that are not in alignment with His truth and objectives. It is discarding all the false concepts that are considered “church,” and allowing God to renew the mind to be able to conceive and walk out how the true Body of Jesus Christ functions.

Many in the modern “church” religion of "attendance" will defend the Babylonian system by quoting Scripture.

NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, as a custom of certain is, but exhorting, and so much the more as ye see the day coming nigh. - Hebrews 10:25

They will use this verse based on a presumption that “church” meetings within the system of Babylon is the only structure that follows the proper assembly of people. The fact is, the possibilities of assembly are endless when one throws out the mandatory attendance in a "church" building with rows where the professional ordained clergy members perform upon the stage. This is not how God designed for His true people to assemble, be taught, function, and to hear and obey His leading.

When people congregate within a “church” building it necessitates associations with Babylon and man’s traditions of expanding their kingdoms of indoctrination and membership of conforming to particular denomination. For this system to survive, its sole life force comes from raising the monetary. In contrast, there is nothing in the New Testament that supports special buildings called “churches” that have an assembly at a fixed time under the control of salaried professionals.

Sincerity is not Justification

Here are some important distinctions between the ekklesia and the counterfeit "church:"

  • The ekklesia are not a building.
  • The ekklesia are not a meeting.
  • The ekklesia are believers (people) in Jesus Christ.
  • The ekklesia are all believers in a locality, not buildings on street corners.

The fact is that any man-made religious services and observances that are done with sincere efforts are an abomination to God. It is called making a religion of assembling for rites and rituals where the Holy Spirit has no say in how the service is conducted because it has been all planned out beforehand. Often, upon leaving the building, the hireling will ask you how you liked the service to gauge how the entertainment factor affected the masses. Unfortunately, those who are part of this system will never ask, or know how God “enjoyed” their rituals.

But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, HOW CAN YOU TURN BACK AGAIN TO THE WEAK AND WORTHLESS ELEMENTARY PRINCIPLES OF THE WORLD, whose slaves you want to be once more? You observe days and months and seasons and years! I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain. – Galatians 4:9-11

The ekklesia does not function, or flourish under compromise with Babylonian traditions that denies people true fellowship with God. It is not about pleasing man, but giving ourselves over to worshiping our God in Spirit and truth. It is about being able to hear Him spontaneously and following His lead. A hireling cannot do this for us by making a religious spiritual announcement upon his podium in vain attempts to manufacture hype that "God is moving."

There are many sincere believers who are caught up in the deceptions of the Great Harlot because of indoctrinal programming and religious activities designed by man to conform to their ways.

Historical Evidence

Entering into New Jerusalem requires rejecting the ingrained beliefs and ideologies of Babylon. This may require extensively researching the origins and historical evidence of many of the religious traditions in the modern “church.” For example, Constantine in 325 AD melded Christianity and paganism together and made it into the religion of the Roman state. Most of the rituals that go on within the modern “church” have pagan origins. Additionally, John Calvin furthered this apostasy with further entrenchment into the worldly concepts of meetings, liturgies, altars, and "church" leaders, such as reverends and pastors who are trained professional clergy manufactured from the minds of men, not of Jesus Christ.

  • The ekklesia are in no way associated with "special" buildings called cathedrals, chapels, or churches.
  • The ekklesia does not have man-made liturgies that conduct the order of the assembly.
  • The ekklesia does not have the segregation of Sunday schools and youth groups.
  • The ekklesia does not use offering plates.
  • The ekklesia does not have special seminaries and Bible schools.
  • The ekklesia does not belong to a denomination.

Jesus Christ built His ekklesia without any of these things, but it requires spiritual eyes to comprehend this. There are sincere believers within the harlot system who will try to protect their friends and leaders within this system. They do not want to hear that the way they have been doing things most of their "church" lives are corrupted. This often leads to personal rejection, but those who come to listen to the truth and look at the evidence will be drawn by the Holy Spirit out their bondage. There is a period of time of spiritual wilderness that comes as a result of rejecting a system that had everything packaged for them and all the road signs marked for them.

Wilderness Experience and Withdrawal Symptoms

The "wilderness" can be a lonely place as many will demonize you for making a stand. In most cases you will be looked upon as divisive, rebellious, back-slidden and denied friendship. Abandoning the social rituals that go on within the “church” leaves many feeling empty causing them to go back into the harlots doors.

For those of you who are struggling within the system of Babylon, or have recently come out from the chains her oppression, there is hope. Remain strong in your convictions. Hope and peace will come by remaining steadfast by refusing the temptations and enticements of the harlot “church” system. It is all the religious activities the deceptively hide the corrupt spiritual condition of those within it. It may be a hard and lonely experience, but in time, after the withdrawal symptoms disappear, there is a discovery of what we have truly become. We become a “living stone” where we are no longer the builder, but the material Jesus Christ is using to build His Kingdom. Once there is separation from the distractive nature of Babylon, it will be much easier to hear God speaking to you and the direction and purpose He has for you in His Kingdom.

Entering New Jerusalem is discovering that it is not about going into a building, but about letting God decide the people He joins you to. New Jerusalem is not a building, but is a city that has been built by Jesus Christ. Many who do not understand this concept will turn hostile and cold toward to those who do.

God will draw you to a family that does not resemble any of the worldly organizations and structures, but a living organism. There is a bond and unity of being in one accord with Jesus Christ this is solely about being led by His Spirit within a family of believers. These are the ekklesia functioning completely separate from the discord of man-made divisions.

Can you discern the difference between the traditions of man and the leading of the Holy Spirit?

A dozen churches within the city of Marlboro, MA, USA just capped off a year of planning and preparation with a Convoy of Hope outreach in one of the poverty-stricken areas of the city. We connected with a thousand people using free services, free entertainment, free food and clothing, and on-site prayer for those who requested it.

The church body with which I worship led the effort- recruiting the other churches, donors and service providers; providing most of the leadership; working with the city; and organizing numerous prayer meetings throughout the last year. We could not have accomplished any of this without a Spirit-filled and Spirit-led leader that we call a pastor. We could not have accomplished this without numerous church bodies uniting and working together.

I get upset when a polemic piece such as this (and others) places all modern churches into a state of apostasy and heresy.

Jesus was trained in the Scriptures, and he trained his disciples in the Scriptures. God chose possibly the most highly educated theologian of his day to preach to the Gentiles- Paul. God did not choose every citizen of Israel as his disciples; He chose those were willing to be taught and to teach others. They got the best education they could get at the time. Focused Biblical study at a Bible college or seminary- the best instruction we can get in this time- is not heresy.

Children, adolescents and adults learn at different levels, and must be instructed differently. As a teacher I am vividly aware of this fact. Separating children, adolescents and adults for Biblical instruction is not heresy.

The early church used a basic liturgy. They sang songs of praise, then read from Scripture. Following an order of service is not heresy, especially when suitably flexible to allow the Holy Spirit to have His way.

From the beginning of the nation of Israel, there have been leaders-Moses, Joshua, prophets. The early church followed the leadership of individuals- Paul, Timothy, Titus. Placing one person in a position of leadership in a local body is not heresy. Without a leader, everyone goes their own way. And yes, the Holy Spirit is the leader, working through a human leader, as He has done from early on.

The Israelites met in a particular place- the tabernacle and temple. The early church met in particular places- people's private homes. The modern church meets in particular places- some in buildings called churches, some in homes, some in rented schools, some in movie theaters, some in YMCA buildings, some in store fronts and coffee shops. Meeting in a building called a church is not heresy.

Blanket statements of heresy in the modern 'church' are insulting and narrow-minded. The body of Christ is alive, not stagnant. We are not expected to conform to a church model two thousand years old. Times have changed. As long as the true message is presented and faith is alive and active, what does it matter where we meet or where we learned the truth?

Hey PlanksandNail- Maybe you can write a Hub on "Vanity of the Modern Church" and use Porshadoxus statement above as the starting point.

Good Morning PandN,

I like your line, "Without discernment, many do not know how to filter out, or make the distinction between what is of man and what is of the Spirit." That says so much.

Although you may feel I'm wrong for meeting in a storefront, I agree with you on what the church is not. I especially like the fact that you stated the "church" has no Sunday schools or youth groups. In my mind (coming from someone that uses a storefront), families are to be brought together, not separated by meeting in different groups. Thanks for the post.

@Gracinus:

Cheap shot, bad conclusion, and you know it.

I made the statement as evidence showing that some of PnN's position doesn't reflect reality. Some of the best evidence for any argument is personal experience. Would you call the testimony of a court witness 'vanity'? I think not. When I tell a sinner what God has done for me, is that vanity. I think not. Perhaps I participated in the Convoy of Hope event just so I could look good to others. Would that make you happy?

Graceinus,

If you call someone out as vain, it is important to provide evidence to why you have come to that conclusion. Please use Porshadoxus' comment and elaborate on it further with your own analysis. I believe everyone should have an opportunity to back up their statements with the standard of Scripture if they disagree for the purpose fleshing out the truth.

Lifegate,

("Although you may feel I'm wrong for meeting in a storefront, I agree with you on what the church is not.")

What I believe is that the Church is not a building, and that the grace of Jesus Christ is not a product of commerce. Once we understand what Church is not, anything that is not true Church is not "church." The problem comes when man mixes (compromises) God's standard with their own. It is an attempt to mix the holy and the profane together. Either conviction will come resulting in repentance (revival), or further compromise into apostasy.

I know you have a heart for revival in your nation, but that will only come by repenting and turning from the traditions of man. It is a message that is not going to tickle the ears of the masses and offensive to many. Not many are willing to count the cost.

Porshadoxus,

Using your example of your church activities is a red herring to the distinctions that I have pointed out in this article. Mormons, Buddhists, Seventh Day Adventists, Catholics, etc... all have their own outreach programs of "good works" too. Here is an article that further clarifies this, http://hub.me/aeWTh

(" We could not have accomplished any of this without a Spirit-filled and Spirit-led leader that we call a pastor.")

Wow, reliance on one singular man for your accomplishments.

Here is an article that goes into great detail concerning the office of the modern pastor. You may want to re-read it again and give your Biblical evidence that affirm salaried hirelings in the Church and sole reliance on one man, http://hub.me/aeHjX

("God chose possibly the most highly educated theologian of his day to preach to the Gentiles- Paul.")

Paul was educated in the Law as a Pharisee, but required a complete a paradigm shift in his thinking when God revealed the doctrine of grace to him. We can learn from Jesus by His many warnings about pompous religious leaders.

("Focused Biblical study at a Bible college or seminary- the best instruction we can get in this time- is not heresy.")

Your missing the point. The fact is most seminaries produce credentialed salaried minsters that preach, teach, and promote the traditions of man.

("I get upset when a polemic piece such as this (and others) places all modern churches into a state of apostasy and heresy.")

I clarified what the apostasy was in the article. If you disagree, quote the article and explain with Biblical precedence your evidence to the contrary.

("From the beginning of the nation of Israel, there have been leaders-Moses, Joshua, prophets.")

That is true, but upon the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we no longer require men who are of priest, prophet, or king status to be a mediator between us and God. Here are a series of four articles that clarify this, http://hub.me/aeYKB .

(“Placing one person in a position of leadership in a local body is not heresy. Without a leader, everyone goes their own way.”)

You have read my article concerning the office of the modern pastor concerning Biblical leaders. I never implied that the Church should not have leaders within them.

("Children, adolescents and adults learn at different levels, and must be instructed differently. As a teacher I am vividly aware of this fact. Separating children, adolescents and adults for Biblical instruction is not heresy."

Then it is upon you to provide evidence and Scriptural precedence to back up this statement. Here is an article that clarifies my position against separating people into different classes, http://hub.me/aeMk2

("The early church used a basic liturgy.")

Are we not to us the standard and examples of Scripture? Most liturgies are fallible because they are written by man to further a denominational agenda. What denomination is your church?

(“Blanket statements of heresy in the modern 'church' are insulting and narrow-minded.”)

I know about the heresy that is going in the modern “church” and have seen the damage it has caused many people because they have removed the standard Scripture, or have added to it. It is a serious matter.

(“We are not expected to conform to a church model two thousand years old. Times have changed.”)

I think this statement sums up the type of “church” you belong to. You might as well throw out the whole New Testament, because in your own words, “Times have changed.” The fact is many apostate “churches are doing the exact same thing by adding, or taking away from God’s grace that has always been relevant from the time of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. I could give you many examples and evidences of corruption that results from doing this.

This article is not meant for the modern “church” clergy member because it is offensive to their esteemed position among the laity class.

graceinus 3 years ago from those of the Ekklesia

PandN- Here is may reply to Posrshadoxus statement. And why I made my above comment. James 1: 26-27 (KJV) states: 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is VAIN.27 Pure religion and unfiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Therefore the vanity described by Poshadoxus "testimony" regarding the accomplishment and achivement of his/her church as a big deal seems pretty clear to me. Unless someone can prove different I don't believe I've quoted the verses out of context which I believe applies very clearly to most of Poshadoxus first statement above. Most, if not all, churches have the same problem.

Poshadoxus in regards to your second comment, you would be surprised to hear some of the testimonies that are given by witnesses in court rooms (vanity included). I have spent my fair share of time in court rooms.

And finally PandN position DOES reflect reality but blindness keeps you from seeing it.

Have a good day.

There are many who will agree with Porshadoxus, but there were also many who agreed with the Scribes and Pharisees as well. But that didn't stop Jesus from calling them out in front of the masses. He made sweeping general accusations against them, which I assume Porshadoxus would take offense at. Jesus called them hypocrites, blind fools, blind guides, greedy, lawless, whitewashed tombs, self-indulgent, unclean, murders, serpents, brood of vipers, and sons of hell! Jesus even questioned if they could escape being sentenced to hell and also intimated that they made their converts as much a son of hell as themselves. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, not many listened to Jesus' words in His day. They wrote Him off as an extremist anti-Jewish nut-case. And we know how it ended - they had Jesus killed for insulting and challenging their power positions and the institution. Devout Jews who sided with the power brokers are still flourishing today. Corporate churches and denominations are here to stay, they will fight tooth-and-nail to hold their power. They will continue to deceive thousands. But the remnant of true followers will stand strong and continue to persevere until Jesus returns.

Neil Braithwaite,

Jesus Christ commanded His disciples to make disciples for His Kingdom. He did not command us to become members of our own choice of "church," or religious denomination. Denominations openly defy Jesus Christ by making members of over 40,000 different denominations. If they were obeying the command of the Lord, they would not denominate themselves, but promote the things that Jesus taught His disciples.

Thank-you for your comment. You are right, "...the remnant of true followers will stand strong and continue to persevere until Jesus returns."

Greetings to you all: I don't believe this article was meant for debate but peaceful examination of oneself and possible dialogue about those findings. Be careful not to miss the point. The spiritual babylon is the equivalent of Ichabod, the glory has departed, when it is Ecclesia that is being separated and called out. Prior to babel being built they all spoke one language as today, and then babylon came forth. We wouldn't want to be found in spiritual babylon speaking the lingos and dialects of the Babylonians. There is a message and lesson we can all learn from it, try the spirit, by the spirit and if we have the spirit, hear what the Spirit is saying in these last days. He that has an ear, let him hear. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter .end. (Proverbs 19:20) Thanks for sharing.

Hello Planks and Nails,

This is an interesting topic you have written about and it obviously is raising some discussion. I do have a problem with all of the denominations. My main problem is the fact that people think that belonging to one denomination or the other actually saves you. Jesus Christ saves and that is all. I marvel at the fact that the disciples of Christ did not call themselves Christians, they were first called Christians. I think that says a lot, doesn't it.

It is very easy to get tied up in traditions that man has created instead of following God. That is why I stick very close to the Bible and search it constantly for answers. I know that there are godly men and men who are to lead but they will lead by preaching the Gospel and not a church.

PlanksandNails profile image

North Wind,

As you know there are lots of denominations out there that claim to be "Christian" and follow Jesus Christ, but following Christ is not about what pleases man, but what pleases Him.

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. - Matthew 16:24

The simple fact is, denominationalism is a different "gospel" because it is nowhere to be found in Scripture. It is derived from the traditions of man, not God.

In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” - Matthew 15:9

Many do not want to hear this, but if you are truly following the true Gospel then you are being obedient to the Lord by avoiding man-made doctrines. Those who teach and promote the traditions of man are not of the Lord's true church, but of spiritual Babylon.

Hello PlanksandNails,

I give the Lord praise and glory that He has given throughout the ages a glorious company of TRUMPET MESSENGERS to sound the clear call of "COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE".

Thank you for your faithfulness in sounding the trumpet....truly this message is given only to those who have been hearing the call by the Spirit to 'come out'....these are those that have been stirred to leave the Babylon system and yet they are unsure if what they are feeling is OF the Holy Spirit. This article is rich with encouragement, truth, wisdom, and discernment....and will help those who are still struggling.....the struggles come from fear....one of the biggest fears of the Babylonian system is that of 'losing your covering' if you leave.....and yet the TRUTH is that the covering of Babylon has been a curse. (Is.30:1).

Our family heard the Spirit call to 'come out of her' about 7 years ago and I am so deeply grateful for His grace worked into us to say "yes Lord" and leave the church system of man....truly, a man can receive nothing unless it is given to him from above, it was all His grace ....all His work.....and He gets all the glory.

While there are many believers in Christ that will read this article and not understand it, and will be offended.....there are a few out there that will read this article and will finally have many of their questions answered and will be STRENGTHENED by THE TRUTH.....and will finally say 'yes Lord, not my will but your will be done.'

Praise Him!

His love, peace, and grace to you!

KnownByHim,

Thank-you for the encouragement. Not many are willing to leave the traditions of man and heed the call of the Lord. Let us be beacons of the Kingdom of God and be an example of a different way by being among the Ekklesia who allow Jesus Christ to lead them rather than salaried men who want to make a name for themselves.

I am glad to hear another testimony of those who have left the Church systems of men to seek the truth.

God Bless!

Vathan,

Spiritual Babylon is a kingdom that will be destroyed. Let us deny this worldly kingdom for the Kingdom of God so that we may rule and reign with Jesus Christ.

Be Blessed!
