Evidence of True Salvation
Evidence of True Salvation
“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires ; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death , but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law nor can it do so, Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
You however are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ , he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.”
Roman 8 : 5 – 11
How can we know that a certain person is saved or how can we be assured of our salvation ?
I believe the most important evidence that a certain person was genuinely saved is the presence of God’s Spirit in him. The Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit is living in every true christian’s life. Because of this, the true Christian, the one genuinely born again and saved is controlled by the Spirit of God. His heart and minds are completely possessed by the Spirit of God. That’s why he is living a life of righteousness that is pleasing in the eyes of God. He is constantly living in the center of God’s will. He cannot remain in sinning. Sinning is not her lifestyle. He has great discernment of good and evil.
Righteous and holy living of a Christian just proves that the Spirit of God is in him. His mind is no longer conformed to the pattern of this world. The Spirit of God living in a Christian is a guarantee of the truth that the gift of eternal life is in him. Thus righteous and holy life is an evidence of true salvation.
The carnal person who is controlled by his sinful nature is not a true born again believer. He did not experience regeneration or spiritual birth. He may profess the Christian faith but his carnal life proves that his life is not controlled by the Spirit of God. His life is not controlled by the Spirit of God because he does not possess God’s Spirit. Once the Spirit of God enters a person’s life, it will be a dominant power in his life that will subdue his sinful nature. The true believer’s sinful nature is already subdued by the Spirit of God therefore it is not a dominant power in his life.
The carnal man’s sinful nature is not subdued. His mind is sinful and hostile to God. His mind does not submit to God’s laws so that he does not submit to or honor the moral precepts of the Bible. It is a casual thing for him to commit sexual immorality or fornication because he does not submit to the moral principles of the Holy Bible. The carnal man is not victorious over his sinful nature thus he is living in recurring sins. The true believer whose life is controlled by the Spirit of God is victorious over his sinful nature. Joining a ministry does not guarantee that a certain person is really saved or a truly born again Christian. Attending worship services does not guarantee that a certain person is saved. A person maybe professing Christianity for so many years, but if his life is not controlled by the Spirit of God, he may not be a true Christian.
The presence of the Spirit of God in a person’s life is the most important evidence of true salvation. And the evidence of the presence of the Spirit of God in a person’s life is his righteous life. A man maybe religious, may have many ministries, may have many good works, but if the Spirit of God Is not living in him, he is not a true Christian and is not saved and is still bound to hell.
