Evidence of True Salvation

Evidence of True Salvation

“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires ; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death , but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law nor can it do so, Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

You however are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ , he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.”

Roman 8 : 5 – 11

How can we know that a certain person is saved or how can we be assured of our salvation ?

I believe the most important evidence that a certain person was genuinely saved is the presence of God’s Spirit in him. The Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit is living in every true christian’s life. Because of this, the true Christian, the one genuinely born again and saved is controlled by the Spirit of God. His heart and minds are completely possessed by the Spirit of God. That’s why he is living a life of righteousness that is pleasing in the eyes of God. He is constantly living in the center of God’s will. He cannot remain in sinning. Sinning is not her lifestyle. He has great discernment of good and evil.

Righteous and holy living of a Christian just proves that the Spirit of God is in him. His mind is no longer conformed to the pattern of this world. The Spirit of God living in a Christian is a guarantee of the truth that the gift of eternal life is in him. Thus righteous and holy life is an evidence of true salvation.

The carnal person who is controlled by his sinful nature is not a true born again believer. He did not experience regeneration or spiritual birth. He may profess the Christian faith but his carnal life proves that his life is not controlled by the Spirit of God. His life is not controlled by the Spirit of God because he does not possess God’s Spirit. Once the Spirit of God enters a person’s life, it will be a dominant power in his life that will subdue his sinful nature. The true believer’s sinful nature is already subdued by the Spirit of God therefore it is not a dominant power in his life.

The carnal man’s sinful nature is not subdued. His mind is sinful and hostile to God. His mind does not submit to God’s laws so that he does not submit to or honor the moral precepts of the Bible. It is a casual thing for him to commit sexual immorality or fornication because he does not submit to the moral principles of the Holy Bible. The carnal man is not victorious over his sinful nature thus he is living in recurring sins. The true believer whose life is controlled by the Spirit of God is victorious over his sinful nature. Joining a ministry does not guarantee that a certain person is really saved or a truly born again Christian. Attending worship services does not guarantee that a certain person is saved. A person maybe professing Christianity for so many years, but if his life is not controlled by the Spirit of God, he may not be a true Christian.

The presence of the Spirit of God in a person’s life is the most important evidence of true salvation. And the evidence of the presence of the Spirit of God in a person’s life is his righteous life. A man maybe religious, may have many ministries, may have many good works, but if the Spirit of God Is not living in him, he is not a true Christian and is not saved and is still bound to hell.

Cristina327, thank you for your article on True Salvation.

I do agree with your statements in this article since they are based on the Scriptures (the Bible).

The Lord Jesus himself said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John.3:3 NKJV)

And again Jesus emphasized, " Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again'." (John.3:7)

I personally had been a very religious man but was not saved until later in life, at the age of 38, when I realized it and surrendered my will to the Lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

At that very moment (11:00am on March 14, 1982) I was born again by the Spirit of God, and it was a really amazing experience, because from that moment on I lived my life very differently.

My heart was changed and my desires were changed too!

Another very interesting development was that I now could discern and understand the Bible, which I had not really ever been able to do before this, because the Holy Spirit was now living in me and He is the One who gives discernment of the Word of God.

1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

1Co 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Being born again from above is salvation.

1Pe 1:23 "having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,

1Pe 1:24 because "ALL FLESH IS AS GRASS, AND ALL THE GLORY OF MAN AS THE FLOWER OF THE GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND ITS FLOWER FALLS AWAY,

1Pe 1:25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER."

YES, the new birth was the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus my Lord, and the beginning of my journey as a true Christian on my way home, to my eternal heavenly home in glory, with God and with Christ my Saviour, to live a perfect, joyful, productive and purpose filled life as God had planned for human beings even before the creation of the world.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Cor.9:15)

Hi Peter Brenner I am glad to hear from you and your born again experience. It is really wonderful to be born again. Being truly born again is really different from head knowledge christianity. Before I got truly born again I professed the christian faith for about seven years. I thought I was really saved because I profess the christian faith and made a dceision for Christ. I even have ministries such as soulwinning and discipleship but inspite of these I have no victory over my carnal flesh and recurring sins.My heart is still filled with lustful desires and selfish ambitions. When I got really borned again on December of 1991 a radical transformation happened in my life. All my hurts, envies, hatred, selfish ambitions, lustful desires are gone. I cannot explain fully how the transformation occurred but I experienced first the crushing of my sinful nature by the powerful Word of God. I experienced an unspeakable joy I cannot fully described or fully explained. It was a taste of heaven's glory. There are many struggles I still experience in my spiritual life but I always yield them to our loving Father in heaven. Just like Jesus says to Nicodemus you cannot see the wind but you know it is there just like being born again when you experienced it you know that something happened deep inside of you but you cannot fully explain nor describe it. Thank you for dropping by and sharing your testimony. I am blessed by it. May you be blessed today and always. Best regards.

Praise the Lord!

His mercies are new every morning.

His grace is more than sufficient for all our needs.

And our Lord Jesus is always with us, even to the end of the age.

Hallelujah!

Hi Christina and Peter,

Religion needs to be explained logically. Why be born again in the first place?

The Bible boils down to just two basic principles: love your God, and love your brothers. What is love? Love is selflessness.

There are various paths to Heaven. Everybody cannot take the same path. The path we choose depends on our basic inclination. If you are selfish by birth, love your God, be born again, and go to Heaven; otherwise, you'll go to Hell. If you can love your brother too, then become a part of a larger scheme of God to save the whole world, and not just your lonesome soul, because God would treasure lost souls rather than already possessed ones.

Everybody cannot be born again and be saved. So we, as Christians, need to pray for those who do not know Christ. We need to love every sinner and ask God to save them. The basic rule of Heaven is that nothing comes without asking, which is prayer. Who, if not Christians, would pray for lost souls? Prayer is a payment for what you request. Pray for the lost souls of your brothers, and God will take care of your soul.

Thank you Jayesef for dropping by and taking time to read this hub. Your visit is much appreciated. The carnal flesh cannot do the works of God or can it neither obey the commandments of God. It is hostile to God's laws. Man is born with a sinful nature and cannot overcome it without the power of the Spirit of God. As it is written in Galatians 5:19- 21 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;idolatry and witchcraft ; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions and factions and envy;drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. How can we inherit the kingdom of God if the sinful nature is ruling our lives. The sinful nature must be subdued by the Spirit of God which can happen in a spiritual birth or born again experience. We are not capable of obeying God's laws or even loving God and our fellowmen with sinful nature ruling our lives. We need the spiritual birth Jesus is speaking about to Nicodemus in order for the sinful nature to be subdued. Unless a man be born again he cannot enter the kingdom of God as it is written in John chapter three. There is no other way a person can enter heaven only by being born again. I hope this is clear to you.Be blessed. Regards.

Greetings Jayesef and Cristina...

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments, it is much appreciated.

I have learned, and therefore wish to share this knowledge with you, so that you also may benefit as I have from the truth of God's Word.

I found out that the Bible was not Authored by men, but by God Himself!

2Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (Greek. God breathe), and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."

So Jayesef, in response to your first question, "Why be Born again in the first place?" we will need to recognize this first fact that the Lord Jesus Himself said in John 3:3 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." and again in John 3:7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again'."

So firstly Jayesef, I had to recognize and accept the fact that God says that "I Must be born again" in order first of all to be made ready to begin to personally know God, and secondly to be empowered by His indwelling Holy Spirit in order to live as a Christian (that is a person indwelt by Christ's Spirit - or born again), which I had never been able to do prior to my new birth, although I truly had tried with all my might and all my strength. Honestly, I had failed miserably, and I new it and had acknowledged it to God, way back in 1981, and finally I surrendering my will to Christ's and I received Him as my personal Saviour on March 14, 1982, and Jayesef, at that very moment God saved me from judgment and hell, which I truly deserved.

That was the day I was born again, and I will never forget it my friend, because from that moment in time God changed my life in so many ways, which I had failed to do by myself and by by own efforts before this.

Since then I have met literally hundreds and hundreds of people who had a similar event in their life and they all admitted that before their new birth they too like me had no real power over the sin nature.

God says in his Word, Romans 5:5 "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Rom 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.

Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood (his death), we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Rom 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Rom 5:11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation."

God was in the World (Jesus is God in the flesh) to live a perfect life and offer himself as the perfect Substitutionary Atoning Sacrifice to reconcile us to Himself: He gave His life as the righteous payment for my sins, He purchased my pardon by giving his life for mine (the substitute) that I could judicially escape God's righteous judgment against my sins, which are many, and i would be totally reconciled back to God by the blood (life) of His Son Jesus.

NOW! that is pure love, that God would sacrifice Himself for me, a sinner, at such enormous cost (die for me).

Therefore God does not and will not take lightly anyone's rejection of the price Jesus paid to purchase their salvation.

John 3:17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Joh 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

I am truly grateful that when I was religious, but still lost in my sins and ignorance of the Bible's truth, some true Christians shared the truth of God's Word with me, and I believed it, and I came to the full realization of my hopeless religiosity and surrendered my will to Christ.

As Cristina pointed out above, in our natural condition, the human nature itself cannot know or please God because we are sinful by birth, and nature and practice.

Therefore God states that if I am not born again I will never see Heaven, much less be in heaven with Him.

Now, on the other hand God says,

Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh (Jesus died for my sins),

Rom 8:4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Rom 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death (judgment), but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (heaven).

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

Rom 8:8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Rom 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you (the new birth). Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Rom 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." (Christ's righteousness)

I do pray for the lost, even some of my relatives, who are stubborn and will not believe God at His word, and i ask god to soften their hearts too, so they may yield their will to his love and honour the Son of God, and He will then, and only then, save them also.

God's word is abundantly clear!

1Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

1Ti 2:6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."

God in love is instructing all men everywhere to repent and to receive Jesus as Lord, in order to be saved.

So God only has prepared one way to heaven, and that is through his Son.

So he who has the Son has life, but he who has not the Son shall not see life but the wrath of God is abiding on him already.

So in conclusion Jayesef, God has made it so clear in His word!

We must be born again is God's salvation, and God will not accept or ever tolerate any so-called other ways to be reconciled to Him, but only through Jesus who loved me and gave Himself for me.

We encourage you to look to God's Word for all matters of

life and conduct, but especially in matters of eternal consequences.

We trust God will bless his word to all who read it sincerely.

Kindest regards,

Peter Brenner

Ate Cristina: What you have written here is marvellous. Something worries me though. One who is "Born Again in Christ" Though the Holy Spirit indwells them, does not mean that they will instantly be seen as saints living and acting totally pious and righteous lives. This may take years to develop. After all it took years for that person to be the unpious person they were in the past. Each wrongful trait, will one by one have to be changed and corrected and this takes time just like every drunk, every drug user changes their lives around one day at a time.

Hi Dave Matthews I am glad to hear from you again. Thank you for taking time to visit this hub. It is much appreciated. I may say born again experience will create a radical transformation in a person's life instantly if he will completely yield to the Lordship of JesusChrist. Paul when got born again was transformed radically instantly. What prolongs the transformation of a person is his stubborn heart which does not submit to the Lordship of Christ completely. The new birth is a miracle, it is completely a work of God and it is not produced by man's efforts or fleshly activities. True repentance and complete submission to the Lordship of Christ is the key to receiving this miracle of new birth.

I hope this is clear to you. Remain blessed always. Best regards.
