A look into Astrology in history

I personally believe that the keys, as I have stated before, to peace are understanding and learning that you don't have to believe the same things just accept that everyone has different beliefs. I have decided to examine the other belief systems of the world, in hopes that it might open minds of others. And if you feel the same way about acceptance and cultures please feel free to share your opinions as I would love to meet another person with similar opinions.

What is astrology? How does it differ from Astronomy?

Definition of ASTRONOMY

: the study of objects and matter outside the earth's atmosphere and of their physical and chemical properties See astronomy defined for English-language learners »See astronomy defined for kids »

Origin of ASTRONOMY

Middle English astronomie, from Anglo-French, from Latinastronomia, from Greek, from astr- + -nomia -nomyFirst Known Use: 13th century

So what are the origins of Astrology?

Well there are some current studies that might be able to date astrology back almost 20,000 years, however at the moment we know that it has been around officially for 4,000 years. yes that is longer than Christianity, you should keep in your mind that Christianity is among the youngest religions in the world which is based off an older religion known a Judaism, transformed younger sect came after the coming of the Lord a little over 2,000 years ago.

Where did it originate from? Now that would be hard to pin point. It would be hard to trace but the current form of Astrology that we use which is a blend of Greek and Babylonian astrology can be trace to ancient Mesopotamia (now Iraq). At the same time another version of Astrology was being used in China. In Central American (Mexico) the Mayans were studying their form of Astrology which they used to predict the end of the Earth around the summer solstice of 2012.

How does Christianity feel about it?

Well there were phrases that support it and condemn it in the Bible, depending on how you interpret it's words. The best part of the Bible is that we are supposed to interpret it in our own way. I feel that it neither condones or condemns astrology but that it just acknowledges that it is there, leaving the reader to chose for themselves the way to feel.

Can astrology be proven? Well that all depends on you who ask. Scientist (Astronomers) have been trying to prove it a foolish past time since the about the 1300th century. While many believers can quote predictions from the past that have come true in previous years. And a lot people say that their Astrological profiles describe them 100%.

Perhaps it is just one of the mysteries that will never be explained.
