Exodus chapter 22 - 21 : Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

The bible tells us "That he that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his maker , but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor"which means if we reproach our maker, we condemn or disgrace or criticize or rebuke God. If we honor God, then we have mercy on the poor and unfortunate. We cannot look down on the poor or those that are without means.
