Which Doctrine Do You Follow?

Wounded Heart

I’ve been corresponding with a dear sister in the Lord, Ms Dee, the last couple of days and it became like looking in a rear-view mirror. What a long road I’ve traveled with bright and dark times. I realized more about my heart and what motivates me to search out the scriptures and write on the topics I have thus far. I’m not one who doesn’t have a past, a testimony of darkness and light ~ just like everyone else. For those who know the transforming power of God’s mercy, grace and forgiveness, we can look back and no longer carry the shame, but rejoice in deliverance.

We were all born into this world and certainly had no say-so as to what that world would be like. Regardless of the details of my life or yours, what it boils down to is innocence is sought to be taken; the Adversary is set out to destroy you from the time you are conceived in the womb. If you really think about it, it’s through PEOPLE that damage is done, why you become influenced to believe the way you do. Some are so controlled and manipulated by others they become controlling and manipulative of others. Very few people can look back without regret, me included.

Well, two years ago I attended church, as I had now and again ~ and every time I couldn’t get through the service without bawling. I guess I bawled my last good cry because that day, God reached into my soul and put His authoritative, loving hands around my heart, stood me up on my feet, washed me clean and assured me I was loved and He would give me the power to get on and stay on His path of life. Repentance was manifest. I knew it. There was no doubt. There was no turning back. I didn’t walk the aisle or say a prayer in front of the pastor; I didn’t become a member by signing some ‘statement of faith’, agreeing to uphold their doctrine; I didn’t get re-baptized or go through a six-week class; I didn’t write a check for 10% of my last paycheck. I went home, dove into His Word and began to write. HubPages was truly an outlet for my heart to spill out and reaffirm my faith and healing.

In Sheep's Clothing

No sooner did I begin writing, those of all kinds of religious beliefs flooded my way. Their doctrines were voices of differing ‘shepherds’, and what made them stand out like a ‘sore thumb’ was the element of enslavement ~ legalism, oppression, and downright spiritual abuse. Why? Because manipulation and control isn’t just in the ‘world’; it’s in the CHURCH! God knows I experienced all kinds of abuse from those who called themselves by His Name, beginning in childhood. How many children, wives and husbands, brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents are horribly abused by those who are otherwise viewed as ‘outstanding Christians’ by the church world? Oh, the secrets and the masks.

Let me tell you something, when a person has suffered from manipulation and control, the abuse of the Adversary is clearly recognized and simply cannot be tolerated. On the other hand, experiencing the true love of my Father and Husband brought (and is still bringing) freedom and life in the Spirit of Christ. NOTHING can be received within my heart that seeks to hinder, oppress, bind, restrict, depress, enslave, hurt, wound….can I think of any more descriptive words? Not only will I not respond well to such things for myself, but also to those regarding my Lord.

In all the Bible study I’ve done thus far I’ve discovered that many denominational doctrines are right on, while just as many are off the mark. Indoctrination and true doctrine is not the same thing. Indoctrination leads away from Christ, while true doctrine leads to Christ. The Bible will reveal whether one has been ‘indoctrinated’ or will confirm true doctrine. Whenever I write about my deliverance from indoctrination, there are those who are greatly offended because they refuse to budge from their long-held beliefs. That’s okay! Believe what you want. You DO have free will. Truly, my motivation is not to offend others, but to hopefully shine some Light and plant a liberating seed that will be confirmed by the Lord. After the next segment, I fully expect to have the down arrow (and the 'funny' button) hit a few times...and that's okay, too!

Doctrines of Men

Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” Now, imagine anyone ELSE saying that. Unfortunately, many do. Here are just a few examples:

Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Muslims all believe in one, single God (true); on the other hand, all are extreme about legalistic works and consequences. The worst common ground is their rejection of Jesus Christ as the only Way of salvation.

Oneness Pentecostals believe in the true God according to 1 Tim 3:16, while they enforce the holiness movement, including such things as women can’t wear makeup or pants; no televisions are allowed in the home; water baptism and even the gift of tongues is required for salvation. They are known as the "Jesus Only" group because they believe the name of God has always been Jesus, is Jesus and will always be Jesus. The Bible proves this to be false.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit is rejected by such denominations as Baptists. They believe tongues are of the devil and any miracles that come out of such a practice are not of God. Southern Baptists have a reputation of being racist, which certainly falls into the oppression category.

Calvinism/Reformed has impacted latter-day Christianity in some good ways, but they believe in double-predestination, that man doesn’t have free will. Just look up TULIP to know more. What a ‘loving’ gospel to tell someone that salvation may not be in the ‘Book’ for them and that God has already sealed their fate to a fiery hell by no choice of their own.

This then brings me to Universalism, which teaches all will be saved and there is no such thing as eternal torment (nice ‘gospel’, though it doesn’t align with the full Bible). They don’t believe in free will either; thus, man has to learn (or be forced into) obedience through God’s judgments on the earth. And, if they don’t ‘learn righteousness’ that way, all but the ‘few’ will be purified after death through the Lake of Fire.

Catholicism is all over the world, one of the largest ‘churches’ on the planet. The Pope is believed to be God’s vicegerent on the earth, which gives him the authority to change or modify God’s divine law. They are primarily responsible for dividing the Shema into a three-person entity and promote works (i.e. repetitive prayers) in order to be a true ‘Catholic’. I find it interesting that the majority of ‘ghost’ and ‘demon’ encounters are experienced by Catholics.

From the Catholics came the Protestant Reformation, including Calvinism, the majority maintaining the trinity doctrine and pressuring people for money. Many hold to the authority of the organized church, do not acknowledge modern-day prophets and apostles and certainly keep women in their place.

Now Mormons ~ they and Jehovah’s Witnesses put ‘orthodox Christians’ to shame when it comes to doing good works, including door-to-door witnessing. But again, they do this because works are conditional for salvation. Because the Bible alone cannot support their latter-day doctrines, both have their own ‘literature’ from their ‘prophets’ to follow. I find it interesting that such a high percentage of JW converts come from Catholicism, which I feel is a direct result of the ‘church’ not encouraging their members to read and study the Bible for themselves.

Freedom in the Truth (Jesus Christ)

I could go on about various doctrinal hindrances, but the freeing truth is God never changed from one to two or three. Jesus was God (who is Spirit) in the flesh (1 Tim 3:16). He kept the Torah to a ‘t’ to completely fulfill it and forever accomplish all that God required (Mat 5:18; Heb 7:28). Works do not make us righteous; obedience to the One who is our righteousness is the work of faith (Mat 5:20; Gal 3:12; 2 Cor 5:21). God gives us a new ‘conscience’ and ‘writes His law on our hearts’ (Rom 2:15). The baptism of the Spirit is the ‘one baptism’ spoken of in Eph 4:5, just as there is one Lord and one faith. This doesn’t mean you will speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:30), but rather you have been submersed in His Spirit, baptized by Jesus (Mat 3:11; Acts 2). Women are not to be bound to submission and silence to males, and can certainly preach and even be apostles (Rom 16:7). Sexism and racism do not belong in the body of Christ.

God gave man a free will to choose life or death (Rom 6:16). God is no respecter of persons and will receive any and everyone who comes to Him (Acts 10:34; John 6:37). No man can ‘pay’ for his own sin, either through good works or ‘purification’ by judgments or the Lake of Fire. Jesus paid it all. Everything I’ve just stated can be backed up with the Bible alone. If some of this is offensive, I challenge you to study the Bible for yourself. Ask yourself whether what you ‘believe’ to be truth constricts or sets free. Does it lead to Christ or away from Him?

From My Heart to Yours

I hope this hub has given my readers more insight into the ‘eyes of my heart’. I am thankful God saved a wretch like me and delivered me from a ‘world’ that sought to ‘victimize’ me. I’ve gone from ‘victim’ to ‘victorious’. I know He loves me and I seek to share that same liberating love with others. If ‘so-called brethren’ (1 Cor 5:11) and non-believers want to stay enslaved to darkness (i.e. manipulation and control), it is truly their choice (John 3:19). When I receive attacks with hateful speech, accusations or encounter those who embrace prideful doctrines such as double-predestination and religious works, I respond straight-forward. Love rebukes (Luke 17:3), heals, unites and sets free, while pride divides and causes all kinds of strife and hardship. Satan wants nothing more than to influence people to RUN from God (Mat 23:13). Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). How would anyone victimized and hurt so deeply by the ‘world’ want to become part of a ‘church’ that’s just as bad, if not worse? In fact, judgment begins at the house of God (1 Pet 4:17). Why is it stated in the Word that believers can be ‘worse than an infidel [unbeliever]’ (1 Tim 5:8)?

True freedom only comes from Christ and in Christ. God’s form of freedom and worldly ‘freedom’ are total opposites. Surely, Satan will allure you to roam ‘free’ unto your own destruction ~ like father, like children (John 8:44). The LORD alone is our Shepherd. His rod and staff guide us to keep us on the narrow path that leads to life (Ps 23: Mat 7:13). Truly, we are all sinful, wretched and naked and blind (Rev 3:17; Rom 3:10; John 1:8). Only God’s holy blood will reconcile our sinfulness (2 Cor 5:21; Acts 20:28). No other god created you. No other god died for your sins. No other god will raise you from the dead. No other god will judge you or reward you on the last day (Heb 9:27). Embrace the Lord God. He loves YOU. YOU matter to HIM. He is faithful. What will YOU do with Jesus?

Rev 3:20 “'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Blessings from my heart to yours ~ JD

Hay JD:

This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I apologize in advance for being long winded here but you have inspired several thoughts. :)

My life's journey has taken me all over the doctrinal landscape of Christianity. On more then one occasion, I have embraced extreme teachings. When I did so, I was tossed around emotionally like a tumbleweed in a desert wind storm.

The result of my tumbling through these doctrinal boundaries, were a lot of emotional cuts, scrapes and bruises that manifested themselves as extreme behavior, emotion instability, constant guilt, critical and judgmental attitudes and no assurance of my salvation.

Sound doctrine brings life, liberty, and rest for your worn out soul. Jesus told all who were weary and burdened, to come to him for he would give them rest. (Mat 11:28) He also said that he had come to us to give abundant and eternal life. (John 10:10) He said that he was the living water, that those who drank from him would never thirst again. (John 4:1-26)

When we apply His teachings to our life correctly, they give us stability, balance and joy on a regular basis. Sound Doctrine will draw us closer to God and will enable us to walk after His Spirit. Empowering us to conquer the sin in our life consistently. In most cases gradually over a period of time. In addition, they bring assurance that He loves us and will never leave us even when we blow it. He stays by us even when we try to get away. It strikes balance between man's responsibilities as he relates to God and how God relates to man.

Sound doctrine avoids extreme opinions and practices. It brings assurance by delivering what it promises.

It will not abandon you when the hype that the teacher stirred up or inspired goes away. It will not leave you worn out and disillusioned realizing that all you have is a legalistic approach to something that isn't manageable and simply doesn't work.

Sound doctrine will stabilize you by bringing you balance, assurance, and joy that remains even in times of trouble and failure. It gives you security and guidance. It teaches you the real and total character of God not just the warm fuzzy parts. It draws you closer to him intimately, and tangibly.

You my sister in the Lord have touched on all these points. While I do not subscribe to some of your positions, it is clear that you and I have this in common, we both are seekers of the truth. We have considered many truths and are weeding out the real gold from the fools gold.

Indeed this is a life long process and much grace is required. Not only for ourselves but for others as well. For we all are working out our salvation and growing in our knowledge of who He is. May we all become rich as we discover, as you are, the freedom that is in Christ, the stability that His Word brings, and may we not waste the precious time he has given us chasing after every wind of doctrine.

In Christ

Praise God, atienza ~ thank you. I like your term 'boxed and sold'. Satan always used the Word of God to go after his victims, didn't he? He's no different today. I think of the words of Jesus in Mat 23:13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in." The organized 'church' or the 'doctrines of men' are not the DOOR to the kingdom of heaven; amen! There is only ONE DOOR and it remains open for all who will enter through the Lord Jesus Christ (John 10:7-9). God bless you!!

Amen, sister Dee!! I pray this hub may be of comfort to your loved one. We may go through some really rough things, but Rom 8:28 is comforting ~ "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

Isaiah 61:3 is also beautifully comforting ~ "To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified." AMEN.

The Lord desires to unite; it is the doctrines of men that divide, which means they include things that are not of God. I just did a word-search on biblos.com for 'doctrines' and NOTHING is positive about that word. Here's just one, found in Col 2:22 "These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings."

The greatest gift is love (charity/compassion) 1 Cor 13. God sees the enslavement of those He created and desires to deliver them from evil (Mat 6:13). He came to set the 'captive' free!

Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Psalm 9:8 states that “He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.” We might be surprised that the Hebrew word for "judge" means 'to avenge', and the Hebrew word for “world” is the word 'tebel', which means confusion. He will avenge the confusion; praise God!

I'm so glad this word brought comfort to your soul today, dear Jachda. He loves you so much and so do I. I can only love because I am loved. His love shines through you. What a beautiful thing!! God bless you!!

I enjoyed your story and some of it is parallel to mine with different details of course.

first off I so agree that the enemy has an assignment against us from the moment we are born. It is difficult to remember that people are not our enemies when it is through people we become hurt. but behind the scenes it is much bigger than that it is a spiritual issue not a people one. It took me years to discover this. When the spiritual issue was overcome the hurtful experiences began to cease.

I also liked your salvation experience. When I returned to the Lord from a 10 years of being prodigal I told Him I would not go to church just to say I showed up. If I were to go it would have to be one that I could learn more about Him in and grow. And He did just that. It was a very unreligious experience.

I too also learned about God's amazing love through experiences of faith with Him and many times He used my husband to do so. I have learned so much about God being my father and husband as I watch my husband.

Enjoyed reading of your journey.

Hi sister, Tamarajo ~ when I think of all the aborted babies...I think how the Adversary works through all those involved to come to such a decision to end a life; there are so many examples in the Bible of the enemy working through people, even family members. My series on Spiritual Warfare revealed quite a bit of this. No one can say, "The Devil made me do it", though. We choose whom we will serve. We actually don't have the choice NOT to choose.

I was just thinking yesterday how the 'invitation' to come to church has become a 'mandate', and it's good you are walking in the Spirit of Truth and not just going because of this so-called 'mandate'. "Two or three gathered" is what the Lord said. Assembling of ourselves together would go right along with that. Greater numbers is awesome, as long as the desire for numbers doesn't ride on the 'doctrines of men'; amen.

It's awesome that you have the spiritual relationship with Christ exhibited in your marriage and church home. You are blessed!

Yes, Dian'swords4u, Jesus demonstrated what it is to be completely yeilded to the Spirit. EVERYTHING He did was of the Spirit in Him. He was the first-born of the 'new creation' (literally conceived and born of the Holy Spirit), as we become new creations when we are 'born again' of the Spirit, fully submersed in Him and thus yielding to His leading in our lives. What a love ~ what a mighty God we serve! God bless you!

Just the other day, I was talking to my wife about why so many people feel the need to make others think and do things the way they do things. Do they think so highly of themselves as to believe their way is the best? I suppose it is the way of this world.

Keep doing your good works, remain in the will and Word of God (Jesus Christ). When the evil one attacks your mind with doubt and fear, just plead the blood of Christ over your life, finances, family, etc.

It's amazing how fast heaven will come to the aid of the faithful in Christ when they plead the blood (shelter of the Most High) over their lives! See Psalm 91

"Are not all angels ministering (helping) spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Hebrews 1:14

BL Tween, amen. If we only understood the Truth IS Jesus, not which 'truth' we want to embrace that is taught by men. JESUS Teaches us. He never stopped. He taught man directly from the get-go. His Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and is IN us, so if we aren't growing and learning, seeing and hearing by the Spirit, we are not 'born again'. Ever heard that song "Going Through the Motions"? So many DO this, rather than grasp the Lord Jesus Christ...the TRUTH. God bless you!!

Michael Jon, you got me thinking and what came to my heart was this:

When God created Adam, He waited to create Eve until Adam saw that all the animals had a mate (Gen 2:19-20). He created a 'need' in him, in order for him to embrace and be thankful for Eve. God gave the "Law" through Moses ~ and the 10 Commandments are not burdensome (1 John 5:3). The mitzvot, however was given to thoroughly show man that he is sinful and unable to be made righteous on his own (Rom 5:20; Gal 2:21). It created the 'need' for a Savior. Truly, those who want to continue to keep the mitzvot love the mitzvot (Mark 7:8). They love being seen of men, probably compare one to another (Mat 6:5) ~ the Jews certainly pointed out how Jesus and His disciples didn't keep them perfectly (Mat 15:2; John 5:18)...ah, but Jesus never sinned! They accused Him of 'sinning'. Sinning against who? Man.

I think of Ps 23, "The LORD is my Shepherd"...and "yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" (vs. 4)...The Law is called the 'law of sin and death' (Rom 8:2; 1 Cor 15:56) and is also called a 'shadow' (Heb 10:1). The letter kills (2 Cor 3:6), and Jesus came to fulfill it to give us LIFE and Godly FREEDOM (Heb 7:28; John 8:36).

We wonder why Satan is allowed to exist. Oh...once again, to teach us we have a 'need' for a Savior. We have to learn that our way is destructive. 'Learning righteousness' is learning that Jesus IS our righteousness (2 Cor 5:21); amen!! How else can our righteousness 'surpass' the Scribes and the Pharisees? (Mat 5:20) Man is destroying himself generation by generation. Man is destroying the world, his relationships, marriages, children, families. We need a Savior!! Our God reigns! No one else!

Only when we humble ourselves to this Truth will we experience God's grace. He opposes the proud, who will eventually fall (1 Pet 5:5; Jam 4:6). May we follow Him alone and never let go (John 10:27), knowing He will never ever leave us or forsake us (Heb 13:5). Praise God!!!

You mention Adam & Eve, everyone thinks that they ran around in the garden naked. Well, before the fall they were clothed with the Shekinah Glory so actually they were not naked. A Shekinah glory something like what was seen in Jerusalem on January 28. This link is to the video taken of the sighting...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuuTVLS6eVg&fea... People say that this light is a UFO (hee hee) but it is my belief that it was an angelical being. Of course after the fall the Lord slayed an animal to cloth them with the skin because the glory was now gone and indeed they were now naked. Have you ever wondered why man is the only beast on earth who has to were cloths? Believe me, it was not the original plan. Our glorified bodies will be as Adam & Eve's were before the fall of man. I hope you get a chance to see the video, it is simply amazing!

Hi beautiful sister ~ thank you. Yes, it was a 'healing' moment of personal insight for me; the grieving only continues as I see others still enslaved to the doctrines of men, those with prideful agendas and those misled by their own desires. However, I realize God carries the grief and I don't have to ~ though, He's given us His heart and what grieves Him grieves His kids. Thus, when we look back we see and are so grieved by our own sin and revelation of enslavement. May we remember, in order to be a testimony to others that are still suffering from such things, yet may we also rejoice in the freedom we have and hang onto it with all our being. You walk in freedom, dear skye2day ~ skye says it all!! Love you always!

My third time reading this one - and once again... a beautiful read! One thing that keeps jumping in my head is from a recent interview I had listened to about the victims of "ritual abuse" (in all forms). And one "church" you had not mentioned in your list (the Church of Satan). In that interview they had two women come forward who were former members of a "druidic" society that was actually a well-disguised "Luciferian" sect. The point they made was how these people use ongoing ritual-based physical and mental abuse, as well as "peer-pressure" communal abuse tactics to not only keep their members under their influence, but even more diabolically was how the practice of such by their leadership is where those people derived their power and influence in the real world. It was very revelaing. People do not fully realize the trappings that are out there and how the enemy of our Lord is using these tactics against the populace of the world.

Thank the Lord and praise Him on high, that He has given many of us the ability to "lift the veil" and see these things. Standing firmly on the scripture and the power of the Holy living Word of God is an amazing tool that we have in our arsenal of defense.

Keep up the blessed work you're doing my friend... Praise Him always, our Lord God IS FREEDOM!... Rev.Ted

The Lord let me see the depth of their pain (root issues), the wishing to numb that pain, which is harming themselves (they don't care if they die, basically). He also let me see how the Enemy has appealed to them through substance abuse, yet has enslaved them to the point some don't see any hope of deliverance.

THEN, you have the 'churches' out there that prey on these babes, should they turn to these organizations for help. What a nightmare these last days are becoming for the lost ~ to seek Light and not be able to find it? Oh, may those filled with the Light and Love of Jesus Christ reach out and share the gospel with the lost, directing their hearts UPWARD to Jesus Christ.

I was thinking about the feeling at impending death, too ~ mainly of Jesus and of Stephen. When the world is destroying the flesh, the spirit is comforted to turn to God ~ may we look up and say, "Father, into Thy hands I commit my spirit" and find that great peace...even as we live.

Speaking of the 'church of Satan', any church that preaches doctrines of men, changes the Word (as the NKJV is about to do), may very well be a part of that 'church'. Lord Jesus, our Savior and Shepherd, SAVE US and LEAD US!! Amen!!

Dear Judah's daughter,

It has been a while since I have read something so freeing and uplifting concerning our Faith walk. I am one that was pulled from a institution of so called Church. No falling out, no disgruntled thing happened. I just felt the Lord telling me to get out and I did. I have been with our Father in the desert place for awhile now. I am not sure where I am being lead but I am open and willing. I too came to hub to just write, just things on my heart. I have never considered myself a teacher, just a person who loves the Lord, open to his leading. Thank you so much for a beautiful hub.

Dear sister Sunny Day, you are not alone, in that many children of God have come out of the man-made 'churchianity' culture and rest in His Church, leaning on the only High Priest, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. His Spirit is our Teacher, His blood is our salvation, and we are children of God because we abide in Him and He in us. While I am not a 'member' of an organized church, I am a member of His body and go where He calls me to go, do what He calls me to do, say what He calls me to say, and write what He calls me to write (John 3:8). It's a beautiful, intimate relationship I treasure and know He treasures me. He treasures you. May His peace overflow in your heart. God bless you!!

My joy and pleasure, sister Sunnie Day! I think this passage will encourage you, just as it has just blessed me tremendously! 1 John 2:27 "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him." Stay blessed and encouraged in our Lord!

If you really think about it, we don't truly have free will. Our will is tainted by sin and therefore we sin. We can't help it. Even the best Christian sins. This is a fact. If we really had free will the our will would hace to be free to not sin. It is not. We do have free will in the sense that we can do what we want but the problem is that what we want is sin. It's our nature. I think the Calvinists understand this best but I have issues with their view of Election. Seems to me this view makes God arbitrary and He picks His elect for no apparent reason. But then again Paul did want us to know that we are in no position to question the potter? (Romans 9:20-21)

Hi Bill, I do not say we have 'free will', but what I do find in scripture is the ability to 'choose'; in fact, we are commanded to choose, so we can't 'will' not to 'choose'. Jesus is the Savior of ALL men, especially of believers (1 Tim 4:10), and He promised to draw ALL men unto Himself (John 12:32). We must choose whose will we will obey. Once we trust the Spirit of Christ Jesus to come INto us (the Holy Spirit), we desire to DO the will of God; though our sinful nature will war against the new nature of the Spirit IN us, even from the time we are 'born again' (of the Spirit).

I refute Calvinism in my hub, "Refuting Calvinism: Don't Limit His LOVE". Anyone who responds to the drawing of the Spirit by trusting Him, inviting Him IN and submitting to His will are the 'elect'. God does not decide ahead of time who will be saved and who will be lost, without any choice of those deemed to either fate. Israel is called God's elect, without a doubt, and Rom 11 tells us that natural-born Israel can be cut off from Her cultivated olive tree, while the wild branches (Gentiles) can be grafted into Her tree. Likewise, those cut off can be grafted in again, if they do not persist in their unbelief, while those Gentiles grafted in by faith can also get cut off, due to arrogance.

2 Pet 3:9 tells us that God does not will for ANY to perish, but that ALL should come to repentance. Repentance is a choice, given to us. We must choose life or death (Deut 30:19; Ez 18:31, 33:11). Once we have chosen to follow the Potter, we as the clay no longer question Him, but submit to His will, because He bought us at the cross and gives us His Spirit to empower us to desire and to do His will.

I hope this is helpful. Thank you for reading and commenting. God bless you.

I understand what you are saying and mostly agree with the exception of two points:

1. Your referrence to losing salvation (at least that's what I think you mean by cut off and grafted in again). I am a firm believer that once God grants you salvation, that's it. No one can snatch you from his hand. Bottom line here is that if you could lose eternal salvation once it was given to you, then Christ would have to die again to regain it and the initial salvation wasn't eternal, was it?

2. 2 Peter 3:9 - In that verse, who are the ANY and ALL that Peter is referring to? This video say it better than I am able. Check it out and comment on it. I value your opinion as you are well studied.

God Bless you, JD! I forgot to say it in my post. I like talking about all of this as it is new to me. I have been saved for 15 years but am just now getting into hermeneutics. God's word is deep and I am just now diving in.

Hi Bill, I appreciate that you are hungry for God's Word and to study to become grounded and confident in His Truth. I viewed the video and would like to simply say that the elect (those scattered, the 12 Tribes of Israel – 2 Pet 1:1) to whom 2 Pet 3:9 is referring to are being told that God is not willing for any of THEM to PERISH, but for ALL of THEM to come to repentance. The true 'elect' have no need to repent or perish, if 'no one can snatch them out of His hand." This aligns with the cultivated olive tree in Rom 11, does it not? We can see that Jesus was sent “only to the lost sheep of Israel” (Mat 15:24) and the great commission was to go to the Jew first (Acts 1:8; Rom 1:16, 2:10). Peter was an apostle to the Jews. Paul first went to the Jews (his own people), then to the Gentiles (Acts 18:6). Salvation is for ALL who believe, for Jesus is the Savior of ALL men, especially (namely) those who believe (1 Tim 4:10).

In fact, if you read my hubs “The Lamb’s Book of Life” and “And the Books Were Opened”, you will see that EVERYONE’s names start out in the Book of Life and only those who reject this salvation (the wicked) are BLOTTED OUT. If only the elect have their names written in the Book of Life, there would be no blotting out of their names (Ex 32:33; Deut 29:20; Ps 9:5, 69:28) and especially Rev 3:5 “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

Regarding "Once saved, always saved" what I see in the Scriptures is the 'endurance or perseverance of the saints'. I see a 'baptism of fire' that must be endured, which is only accomplished by true, born-again (Spirit-filled) believers, rather than false followers. To back up what I'm saying here, let's look at the following passages:

Endurance of the saints: Mat 10:22; 24:13; Mark 13:13; Rev 3:5 (above) and 21:7

Baptism of fire (pur - trials/afflictions): see my hub “Baptism Now Saves Us?” and ref Mat 3:11; Mat 20:22; Luke 12:50

True elect vs. professing 'elect': 2 Pet, 3-11 is a good section to read. Vs. 10-11 NLT "So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never FALL AWAY. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Cor 13:5 KJV "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, EXCEPT ye be reprobates?"

Truly, John 10:27-30 address those who are true sheep, some of natural-born Israel and some that are ‘other sheep, not of that fold’ (Rom 11). I hope you find this helpful. God bless you, also!!

Praise God, brother Bill. It's been a pleasure. And may God bless you on your journey of perseverance!!

Bill 3 years ago

Thank you JD! One last question: Above you mentioned that we are "commanded to choose". What scriptures are you referring to? Were you referring to Joshua 24:15 or are there others (which ones exactly)?

For some reason, the Calvinists believe that us freely "choosing" Christ is synergism (us co-operating with God) and therefore if we believe this we are saying that we are saved by works and have reason to boast. I can't find anywhere in scripture that says "believing" or "choosing" on our part is a form of "works". Can you?

Judah's Daughter profile image

Judah's Daughter 3 years ago from Roseville, CA Author

Hi brother Bill, I do not preach salvation by 'works', but evidence of salvation by 'fruit' (Gal 5:22-23) which results in doing good works (the will of the Father), of course...or works (the will of the Father) that result in bearing good 'fruit' (either way) - James 2:14. We shall know them by their fruit (Mat 7:20). It's about who you are, not what you do, in a nutshell. To be of the 'NAME' of Yeshua/YHWH is to produce His character and reputation (see H8034/G3686), if His Spirit dwell IN us.

Now, as far as scriptures that show we cannot choose NOT to choose? There are several:

Mat 6:24 Aramaic Bible "No man can work for two masters, for either he will hate one and will love the other, or he will honor one and the other he will ignore. You cannot work for God and for money."

Rom 6:16 KJV "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (ref John 8:44; Mat 7:21)

Deut 30:19 KJV "I call heaven and earth as witness this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live:"

The Bible is full of passages that have to do with these two decisions (choices), resulting in our eternal future ~ which gate shall we enter?

Mat 7:13 Aramaic Bible "Enter the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is spacious which leads to destruction, and many are those who are going in it."

Mat 24: 31-33 NAS “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left."

We can look at parables such as the wheat and tares, since both actually look identical until the harvest (true or false believers). Back to true and false sheep...(Mt 13:24-30,36-43)

Hope to see you at my hub "Refuting Calvinism: Don't Limit His LOVE" http://hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/Dont-Limit...

I appreciate your questions. God bless you!!

Thanks JD. I will post anymore questions I have over at your "Refuting Calvinism" hub. Didn't mean to hijack this hub for that purpose. Sorry for that.
