Communication With Ghosts and Spirits Through Dreams

Spirits may use several different ways to try to communicate with the living. Apparitions, EVP (electronic voice phenomenon), EMF (electyro-magnetic field), scents, interrupting service with appliances in your home, just to name a few.

Spirit communication through dreams is another. Communication in this manner is a lot less frightening. I have found that many of us have experienced this, and most of the time the spirit is of a friend or family member trying to get a message through to us. Dreams normally can be difficult to analyze. There are tons of books written about dreams and their meaning, however the two experiences that I had were very easy to understand.

When I was 10 years old (46 years ago), my grandfather passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I was extremely close to him and at that point in my life, I had never been involved with death so his passing really traumatized me. About a week after his passing he came to me in a dream. In the dream he looked so healthy and happy. Much more so than when he was living. He told me that he had came back just to assure me that he was okay. The dream was so different than any dream that I had experienced before. It was much more vivid and as clear to me today than it was 46 years ago. A few weeks later he returned back to again reassure me that he was okay. A few months later, again he appeared, except this time he told me that he knew now that I was going to be fine and that he would not be back. After that I never dreamed about or heard from him again.

My next experience happened in 2008. My best friend died as a result of neglecting to go to a dentist for an infected tooth. When he finally did go it was too late, the infection had spread all over his body. The last day that I saw him, we had had a disagreement over something really stupid. After learning of his passing I really took it hard that our last day together was spent being mad over something really stupid. About 2 weeks after his death, he came to me in a dream, again to reassure me that he was okay and to never again leave someone while you are mad at them. Again he appeared so healthy looking. He also asked me to tell his wife that he was okay.

Both events that I had experienced involved me being in a state to where I was really bothered by their passing. Both events involved the passing of someone that was really special to me, and both times after the dream I was left feeling at peace. These dreams did not have a "haunting" effect whatsoever, instead they left me feeling warm and reassured.

Since then I have made it a point to research "spirits communicating with us through dreams". One thing that really stuck out with me was, just about in every case it involved a loved one and it involved the spirits trying to reassure us that everything was okay. When you get down to it, whether spirits actually exist or not is not important. It's how the event leaves you feeling afterward. If you have experienced these dreams yourself, you already have an opinion about whether spirits exist and no one is going to change your opinion.

Have you had a similar experience? If so I'd love to hear about it.

Hi redwards54. You have an interesting hub here. You must feel lucky that you had another chance to communicate with your loved ones once they passed over. It must be a great feeling to know that they are all right on the otherside or wherever we go when we die. I have encountered this affect with my mother. She seems to be somewhat sensitive, if that's what you call it, as she has always had dreams of my deceased relatives re-assuring here that they were ok where they were and were happy and content. I can only imagine how this must feel. :)

Thanks again for your comment. Yes it was nice when my friend and my grandfather came to me however about 3 years ago I lost my mom and dad within 6 months of each other and I really wish that I could hear from either of them but so far no contact. Oh well guess I just need to be thankful for the experience that I did have

Thanks again for reading. Rob

so interesting to hear this. I also had communication from my partner at the time of his death through suicide it was so vivid that i was in tears he came to me saying i had to do something difficult in the morning not to waken our children to just wait he said goodbye and i could see what had happened despite having no clue before this sure enough the dream was real i wanted it to be untrue he seemed calm in the dream he had bi polar and was very unhappy at times. I also had a dream from my godmother who died the same way to look out for her teenage son. I dont think spirits ever communicate in an evil way but it is really special to be able to communicate this way.

Very interesting. I have not had the chance to work with any dream related communications but it seems like it would be a fascinating experience to say the least.

My mother passed away late last month. We had been estranged for over a year prior to her passing (and off and on through out our lives together). She was abusive to me when I was a child, and she had sever boundary issues during my adult life. At some point, I said, "Enough," and walked away. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I had a dream about her last night, and she started talking about one of the most violent episodes of my childhood. It was like she was trying to make a peace with me and say she is trying to learn from what she did wrong in this life. That is a comfort in itself.

Two years ago my grandfather passed. About a week or two after he passed (after being sick for a while), I had a dream that he was there with me and was telling me he loved me and he was okay. He looked great. The dream was so vivid (which never happens to me) that I woke up crying from the clarity of the dream and sense that he was really there speaking to me. It was the most real dream I have ever had and I believe he was communicating with me and it was not my imagination (others may think I'm crazy). Also, last week, my mom printed a picture of my infant daughter from her computer and there was a picture of him printed over hers and we are sure that picture was not on her computer and the paper was blank. It's as if he was telling us he is watching over my baby (who happens to have special needs). I know he's with us and feel comforted by this.

I found it. Great story. There are so many stories about these sightings. Believe them or not, it's not important to the teller. What is important to the teller is how sighting made us feel after the experience.

There's Biblical Scripture that states "they will discredit what they do not experience"... I am happy for you that you gained encouragement and peace from your dreams. What anyone else thinks or believes doesn't matter. You know what you experienced. There are going to be more and more and more Spiritual experiences occurring for people in the near future, as we all move up the Spirituality ladder as humankind. Along with your wonderful article, there are some great comments made on this hub!

I had a dream about twenty years ago when I was praying for answers and being led in some new directions. In it, My uncle, who passed in 1972 appeared with another spirit. The other spirit was in the form of a beautiful, but dark woman and she wanted my soul. My uncle struggled with her and prevailed. She fled and he sat in a large throne-like chair. They never spoke and the dream seemed different from an ordinary dream. I'm looking for clues to the dark woman and what she might represent.

I had another dream the night my father passed away. I had prayed that God would give me a sign that he was alright and happy. In this dream, Daddy was walking out of an antebellum house with a spring in his step and the biggest smile on his face I had ever seen. This was after the arrival of a very strong black man in a wagon. The wagon approached with the sound of horses, but there were no horses. The incredibly strong man had powered the wagon by pulling a rope that worked on a pulley system. I thought he was a healer until I woke up. I then decided he was an angel.

The dead have been visiting me through my dreams since I was a kid. Family members, pets and once a Confederate Soldier when I was out camping.

Usually dreams are only dreams and the dead ones don't visit you at all. I am a Taoism exorcist and I deal with ghosts and stuff all the time. Of course, being able to see and track them down as well. They don't enter people's dream at all. But then, when you dream of the ancestors, there is a meaning to that in the dream interpretation as well.

That's our Taoist perspective.

Great hub though!

I had a dream like this 4 years ago, a year after my best friend killed himself during the summer of 7th grade. He came to me so happy and alive and he asked me about everything that was going on and to tell jis friend hello. I woke up feeling full and relieved. I have not seen him since he hugged me in that dream, but I know he is doing well. Thank you for the wonderful insight, and I would like to be in touch with spirits as freely as possible. You have a wonderful heart and mind. I realize this is late and you posted this a long time ago, but I had to share. Thank you.

My grandpa passed while my sister was pregnant. A couple weeks after his passing, he came to me in a dream. He was happy and looked great. He was sitting in bed with my grandma even though they slept separate. I told him how excited I was to see him. He said he knew. I asked if he had seen my new niece.. He smiled and said, "yes, I see her everyday and she's beautiful" . Twelve years later, I held my newest niece in my arms and walked her around his house and into the bedroom he passed in. I said out loud, "papaw you have a new granddaughter" My sound sleeping new born niece opened her eyes staring at the bed and smiled. I freaked out and teared up.

My dream was very vivid, I knew I was dreaming of a spirit, I seemed to be paralysed & cold , my husband although I couldn't see his face was Sat looking at me when I tried to explain there's something there because of the way I felt he just looked at me as if I'd gone crazy, there was a checked shirt hung up that started blowing , I was still very cold & couldn't move ???
