Devotional Books Are A Great Gift For Any Season Of Life

• But what makes this one special?

• Why would any book be a good gift in this day of online reading?

• How can we know which out of all that are available would be the best one to give?

Simply put, Daily Light on the Daily Path is a gift to treasure. Often referred to as, "The Daily Light," this is a timeless devotional book because of its timeless author. It is a priceless gift because of its jewel strewn pages.

Consider What A Wonderful Gift A Devotional Book Makes!

Early is the time to start thinking about Christmas, especially if we have a significant gift list. Friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors, the mailman... You know how the list seems to grow as the season nears.

Having a good assortment of devotional books on hand is a great way to be ready for the unexpected as well as an easy way to put something meaningful in the hands of those you regularly give holiday gifts to. How can you decide which to buy since there are so many to choose from? How can you know if an author is worth reading?

As well, why give such a gift when so much devotional reading is available on-line? What makes a gift of a devotional book special? Would you have to convince the recipient that it is a “good” gift?

The answers are simple because of the nature of devotional books. Reliable sources are not necessarily the newest kids on the block. Look for established authors who have exhibited their ability to speak the truth in love. It is never a good idea to jump on a bandwagon with someone who thinks they’ve come up with a new take on timeless truths.

As for devotional reading on-line, well, many of us do take advantage of this opportunity throughout the day. However, there’s something about the feel of a real book that can speak to a needy soul. And when we are tired of a computer screen a devotional book in the hands by a sunny window or on the lap while curled snuggly by the fireplace is a wonderful change of pace.

While not everyone is going to put a devotional book at the top of their wish list, most will realize that it is a thoughtful gift. There may be a few, “Well, how about that!” type comments from immature or ungracious recipients, but most people have enough sense, or at least enough experience, to know that times of need come and go in life and that such a book waiting patiently on the shelf can be a tremendous blessing.

Even people who do not read devotionally on a regular basis usually have enough life experience to feel that a book like this could be invaluable when times are tough. Everyone can benefit from a quality devotional book like Daily Light on the Daily Path.

The Daily Light on the Daily Path Is Not Like Any Other Devotional Book

Giving a devotional book to another Believer is always going to bless them for even if you have accidentally chosen one that they already have, this is one of the few gifts that is supposed to be regifted if at all possible! How much better than that can a gift get?

There are many titles that I could recommend because they have helped fill out my life by helping me understand and apply God’s infinite Word. You can find them with Amazon and Ebay. Authors like D.A. Carson, John MacArthur, John Piper, Oswald Chambers, Spurgeon, Newton, Cowman, Elliot, and more come to mind.

One particular book, though, is a treasure that is above all others. It is unique in both its content and arrangement, and it is singular in its ability to meet the needs of its readers. It’s benefits are such that if I could take only one devotional book to the proverbial deserted island it would be this one.

Devoid of any man’s commentary, Daily Light on the Daily Path is all Scripture arranged topically with a short morning and evening reading for every day of the year. Thanks to the work of a man named Samuel Bagster, this little jewel continues to give strength and comfort to readers the world over. It is gratifying beyond words to have had the topical readings meet a personal need so often.

Samuel Bagster worked diligently to arrange these readings and his descendants prayerfully continued his careful work for three generations. The priceless fruit of their efforts to complete the work as conscientiously as Bagster began it has clearly blessed readers. It is a gift to the Church that simply cannot be measured.

Nothing verifies Scripture like Scripture itself. As the truths are unfolded in Daily Light on the Daily Path, the power of the Word of God to help God’s people understand His plan for them is refreshed on every page. It has given strength to those too weary to read much at a time and it has provoked many in-depth studies that proved to be the means of greater knowledge and understanding for seekers.

Daily Light on the Daily Path can be found in several translations. Currently I am enjoying an English Standard Version (ESV). If you don’t own this treasure of a devotional book be sure to order one and get started with your daily readings. Once you do, you will surely want to share its blessings with others!

I haven't heard of Bagster, but I've really enjoyed Chambers--especially the My Utmost for His Highest. He doesn't coddle and allows no one to be a victim. I have a similar book by C.S. Lewis that I'm enjoying. Thanks for the article. =:)

RTalloni, You've made an excellent choice in suggesting this devotional as a gift. Your highlighting of this amazing, unassuming author and his timeless book is greatly appreciated, as I have found Samuel Bagster's work to be always inspirational.

The YouTube meditation on Psalm 138 by Charles Spurgeon sheds clear light for the daily path. I especially value his question and answer set:

"Shall I stretch forth my hand and fight my foes? No, my hand is better employed doing service for my Lord." Whenever I have posed that question to myself, invariably I have received that same answer; peace envelops me, for the promise is kept: "Thou wilt revive me."

Kind regards, Stessily
