God's Gift to Me: The Holy Spirit at Work; Christian Poetry 1
As He does with everyone, God has blessed me with certain gifts. Perhaps because He knew that my life would not be easy or perhaps because as a small child, even before I had a chance to really know God, I loved Him with all my heart and soul. Although we all firmly believe in God and have always been very spiritual, religion was just not a priority with my family. We were taught to believe in God and to pray, we were sent to Catholic schools but it wasn't something we talked about a lot at home..except when there was a Baptism or Communion to go to or it was Christmas or Easter etc.. We didn't read the bible and we didn't attend church regularly..mostly only on holidays or special occasions although because of the Catholic schools, we did have theology classes and attended mass with our classmates.
As a young child, before I would come to know God, I loved Him deeply. I can remember being very young and sitting in the back seat of the car. My dad was driving and my mom was in the front seat as usual. I don't know where we were going but I just remember looking out the window and just feeling overwhelmed with love for God. I just kept thinking I want to be a nun, I want to be a nun. At that age, to me, priests and nuns were the closest things to God on this earth. In my mind at the time, they had an almost magical relationship with God, like they actually knew God and were able to actually see Him and talk to Him. I remember thinking about Him and going back in time from the present, to God creating the earth and the universe and then everything just being black and lonely. I asked my parents then what every child probably asks at one time or another. "Mom", I said, "If God created us, who created God?" It was something I thought about a lot as a child. Of course I received the standard " nobody created God, He just always was." It's something I still think about now and then. I imagine this intelligence with no body or form just wandering forever in total nothingness before creation, in a black void all alone and it gives me a funny feeling, like the answer is just out of reach, like when you've forgotten a word but it's right on the tip of your tongue. There is an answer and I can only hope to understand it one day.
I guess for me it all started with a dream when I was very, very young. It really wasn't a dream though. It felt more real then my waking life. If you've read my other hub, "My spiritual experiences", you know what I mean. Anyway, I was in Heaven, in a room of solid gold. In this room was a gold swing that hooked to the ceiling. The room was magnificent and I was sitting on the swing feeling like I was at home again, just filled with a feeling of love and peace. As I was swinging back and forth and looking around the room, I was saying the Lord's prayer over and over again. It was the first prayer I was taught. I can't begin to explain how much love I felt or how happy I was to be there. As I was swinging and repeating the prayer, God came into the room and told me I was special. I had no idea what He meant by that but looking back, God has blessed me several times over and I want to share with you several things I've learned over the years.
One of the things God has blessed me with is the gift of knowledge. Before I ever read a bible, I was somehow able to know all things scriptural. I don't know where it all came from but whenever a conversation would come up or some sort of spiritual debate, I would dominate the conversation. I would go on explaining and making my point while others stood with their mouths open in disbelief. I would just feel this high and the words would just come pouring out of me from I didn't know where. Sometimes I would even surprise myself.
Another thing that would happen is that I felt compelled to write..mostly poetry back then. I started writing poems around the age of 6. In fact I still have them around somewhere. Anyway, I would just sit down and in 5 minutes I would have a poem written. I didn't have to think about it, I didn't need to make revisions, I would just sit down and write line after line, again not really knowing where it was coming from but when it was finished, I would be as amazed as anyone that there would always be spiritual truths and double meanings to things that fit with scripture that I would not know till after I had written it. It's some of those poems I'd like to share with you now. These are from when I was a teenager but are timeless in the spiritual message to us. They have even served to help some people in the past and have even brought people to come to know the Lord. I will also give you the corresponding scriptures that I later learned matched the poem. I hope they speak to you as well.
Imagine never having to be alone again,
having someone who is the ultimate best friend,
who's comforting presence is with you night and day,
who is a constant companion yet never in the way
Imagine perfect love like you've never known,
Heavenly peace in the midst of your storm,
a guiding hand, who is never wrong,
a shoulder to lean on, so sure and strong
Imagine someone who knows your deepest thoughts,
who understands your fears, who criticizes not
Someone who listens, who'll give you their all,
forgive you your wrongs, pick you up when you fall
Imagine someone who'll never turn you away,
who'll heal all your hurts, who's with you to stay
Then imagine a person who's loyal and true,
who loves you so much they would die for you
Well imagine no more my friend, cuz it's true,
the Lord Jesus Christ gave His life just for you
He wants very much to be your special friend,
just waiting to be asked, then He's there till the end
He's knocking right now, won't you please let Him in
Then you'll never have need to imagine again!
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many
This next one was written when someone I knew found out they were having a baby and perhaps one of the poems that surprised me most.
From the moment of creation,
when His breath gave life to man
the child's name your carrying
was written on His hand,
Cradled gently in our Father's arms,
surrounded by His love
this precious soul, on angels wings,
descends from up above
He's chosen you as guardians
to raise this little one,
in wisdom, love and righteousness
with knowledge of His son
Oh what wonder in this miracle
your love has now achieved,
this blessed gift, that Heaven sent,
the babe you have conceived.
I still remember being very surprised when I later came upon the scripture that says God engraved us on the palms of His hands and is one example of what I meant when I said there would always be some spiritual truth or scripture that I was not aware of before writing the poem.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
..yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;..
ON THE WINGS OF A PRAYER
My spirit soars free on the wings of a prayer,
to touch the heart and mind of God, His love beyond compare
Waiting patiently with open arms to fill my soul with light
sending down His Holy Angels to disperse the dark of night
Although He knows my deepest thoughts, knows what I've done and seen,
He waits for me to speak to Him before He intervenes
He always answers every prayer although I fail to see,
that sometimes what I'm asking for is not what's best for me
I always end up grateful though that sometimes He says no,
for time has always shown exactly why He answered so
How wonderful to have a God who has our futures planned,
to know we're walking down His path while He holds our hand
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
"We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and do His Will, him He heareth"
1 peter 3:12
When His children pray, God answers: "For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears unto their supplication"
1 John 3:22
The apostle John writes, "And whatsoever we ask we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight"
Psalm 57:1 “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by.”
This one was written when I felt particularly ill and in a lot of pain.
GRACE OF GOD
When the road ahead seems dark and bleak and no one understands,
the time has come to look up my friend and let God take your hand
When your bodies turned against you and the pain is hard to bear,
It's then His peace is strongest and you know that God is there
When you think you just can't take anymore, instead of feeling blue,
just feel His arms around you for it's then He's holding you
He's always there to comfort you and love you through your pain,
and if you lose your fight on earth, our loss is Heavens gain
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God
2 Cor 12.9-10
God said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Colossians 1:11-14 “May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
There's an angel on my shoulder
sent by God to stay with me,
who's job it is to guide me through
the troubles I can't see
That still small voice inside of me
is sometimes hard to hear,
or perhaps I'm just not listening
with my spiritual ear
Still even though I sometimes find
I'm where I should not be,
He's always there to see me through
and set my spirit free
These angels that He sends to us
to help us in this world,
do that which God has told them to
speaking only what they've heard
From the mouth of God, to angels ears
then straight to our own heart,
There's not one moment in this world
that we are set apart
His angels and His Holy Spirit
ensure we're not alone,
from the moment we come into this world
till the time He calls us home
Gen.23:20 "See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way
and to bring you to the place I have prepared."
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
..And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS
Heavenly Father whom I love so much,
my heart is filled with grief
For all the sins that I've committed,
I am ashamed beyond belief
I humbly ask for your forgiveness,
for my heart is full of sorrow
and I pray, oh Lord please send me your Spirit,
so I can do better tomorrow
I promise though to be aware
of what I do and say,
Sweet Jesus you know it won't be enough,
please carry me the rest of the way
Help me Lord to be more like You
as you wash my sins away,
remove all my transgressions
and cleanse me in every way
I thank you God for your forgiveness,
Your mercy and Your grace
Please help me to do unto others,
to be a steward in your place
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
That's it for now. I hope that these poems have spoken to you in some small way.

From the time I was a child, I have been having spiritual experiences and encounters with angels. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was because I would later be diagnosed with a chronic illness that has no known cause or...
Most people today have heard of Crohn's disease, but when I was diagnosed 20 years ago it was much less known. Though doctors understood much more about it today, it can still be tricky to diagnose.
