God's Abounding Mercy
God’s Abounding Mercy
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail, they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, ‘ The Lord is my portion therefore I will wait for him.’
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him, it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
Lamentations 3:22 - 26
God’s Compassion To Israel
The nation Israel had wandered away from the Lord and followed the evil ways of their neighboring nations. The Israelites had traded the living God for the worthless idols of their neighbors. They had forsaken God the spring of living water and had dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. They had tremendously hurted God and provoked Him to anger, anger that devastated their nations.
But God’s mercy and compassion to Israel prevails amidst his anger. He has not totally destroyed Israel. He left them with a remnant. Israel was not totally consumed because of the Lord’s great mercy. There were remnants left after the devastation caused by the Babylonian invasion..
God’s Compassion To The World
It is because of the Lord’s never ending mercy and compassion that the modern world is not consumed. Despite of its extreme wickedness. Although the world has produced generations of God mockers, God haters, blasphemers, cursers, adulterers, fornicators, murderers, extremely vile people with callous conscience, the world is not totally destroyed, it is not totally devastated and consumed.
The Lord still shows His mercy and compassion to the people of the world day after day. Each day He still makes the sun shine , He still sends the rains to water fields that there will be harvests to provide food for our table. He still shields the earth from any catastrophic collision with other heavenly bodies. His mercy indeed is fresh every setting of a new day.. Despite that the world has tremendously grown very evil, the Lord is still showing compassion to its inhabitants day after day.
