HIJAB - TO WEAR OR NOT

Updated on September 22, 2013

Hijab, to wear or not...

“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)

The Hijab, is recognised everywhere as a garment for all muslim women

( muslima), but wrongly only associated by the headcovering.

It has come under attack by the general public of the west who associate it wrongly with terrorism. How can i piece of cloth signify such a thing!

It has also been falsely reported as a sign of downtrodden women.

'muslim' women are forced to wear hijab - again this is a fallacy........

hijab

What is Hijab?

Very simply Hijab is a loose covering for the whole body.

It should not be showy as to draw attention or show off.

It should not be transparent, as then there is no point in covering. if the body is to be seen anyway.

It should be roomy and loose enough so that it does not display the shape or curves of the womans body as this would defeat the object of wearing Hijab.

It should not be perfumed,,, for perfume in itself will draw attention to the wearer.

The Hijab should not resemble any male clothing.... ie Jeans or trousers.

It should neither resemble the clothing of the non believers ( kafir ).

The Hijab should not be for fame....... so if you are known for your fancy red Hijab ... this is also wrong.

What are the virtues of Hijab?

Wearing the Hijab is an act of OBEDIENCE to Allah ......

Qu'ran .

`It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His messenger have decreed a matter that they should have an option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, has indeed strayed in a plain error.' (S33:36).

'And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc) and not to show off their adornment except what must (ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their Juyubihinna.'(S24:31).

The Hijab preserves MODESTY. Hijab is IFFAH

The Hijab is protection for PURITY - TAHARA

`And when you ask them (the Prophet's wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and their hearts.' (S33:53).

Hijab screens from the eyes that which should not be shown..... hence by avoiding temptation... or giving temptation to the eyes...... what the eyes do not see the heart does not grieve over .

Hijab is a SHIELD

Our prophet (PBUH) said ...

"Allah, Most High, is Heaven, is Ha'yeii (Bashful), Sit'teer (Shielder). He loves Haya' (Bashfulness) and Sitr (Shielding; Covering)."..........: "Any woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband's house (to show off for unlawful purposes), has broken Allah's shield upon her.

Hijab is RIGHTEOUSNESS - Taqwah

Qu'ran ......`O children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts, etc) and as an adornment. But the raiment of righteousness, that is better.'(S7:26). The widespread forms of dresses in the world today are mostly for show off and hardly taken as a cover and shield of the woman's body. To the believing women, however the purpose is to safeguard their bodies and cover their private parts as a manifestation of the order of Allah. It is an act of Taqwah (righteousness).

Hijab is FAITH.- Eemaan

Allah (swt) in the Qu'ran ..... refers to the "the believing women". Aisha (RA), the wife of the prophet (pbuh), addressed some women from the tribe of Banu Tameem who came to visit her and had light clothes on them, they were improperly dressed: "If indeed you are believing women, then truly this is not the dress of the believing women, and if you are not believing women, then enjoy it."

Hijab stands for BASHFULNESS - Haya

Bashfulness is part of the nature of women, the Hijab fits the natural bashfulness of women.

"Each religion has a morality and the morality of Islam is haya'" AND "Bashfulness is from belief, and belief is in Al-Jannah (paradise)".

from 2 authentic Hadith.

The Hijab preserves the DIGNITY - Gheerah

Dignity is an integral part of islamic faith, no man wishes another man to covert his wife or daughter. A muslim man has great respect for all muslim women....and has a great drive to protect all that are related to him. This drive is Gheerah.....The dignity of his wife daughter or any other muslim woman is  greatly respected and defended.

Hijab
Hijab

Hijab is not !!

Many of our sisters especially in the West wear what they consider to be Hijab....

this is not Hijab.. Jeans , T-shirt and a head scarf.

transparent head covering that clearly shows the hair, adorned with sequins.

Eyes heavy with khol and faces covered in make up.

Perfumed so highly they can be followed by their scent.

sisters this is not Hijab......... read ..... educate yourselves...... to find the answer all we must do is read the quran it is there black and white- no debate necessary.....

leave these adornments at home for your husbands and families.

Check your mirror before you leave your homes be all means....... but make sure it is for the pleasure of ALLAH (SWT).

not Hijab

hijab is not

Conclusion

To observe proper Hijab is to dress modestly, covering all parts of the body except the face and the forearms, without showing the curves of the figure and without using make up and perfume.

Islam is not a force way of life... it is about our mutual love for Allah and each other.

I personally wear Hijab because it is a command from Allah, It shows the world i am different, i am muslima i am a sister, it offers me protection.

Hijab shows that we are under the protection of Islam and should therefore be shown respect.
