Haunted Florida And Tales Of The Paranormal
Haunted Florida And Tales Of The Paranormal
The Florida School For The Deaf And Blind at St Augustine is one of the most haunted locations in Florida. It is said that anywhere that you have had a lot of violent tragic deaths happen that you will have paranormal activity and the Florida School For The Deaf And Blind has been the scene of much tragedy and death.
The school opened in 1892 and almost at once there was a suicide by a 14 year old boy. He hung his self late at night in one of the boys bathrooms and the metal baling wire he used was around his neck so tight that it pulled his head off. It was a horrific bloody mess and several other students parents pulled them out of the school because of what they had witnessed.
And almost at once stories started being told that other children at the deaf and blind school were seeing the suicide happen again and again and over time the boys and girls bathroom was switched around to try to hide the location of where the boy had hung his self but people still claimed to see him carrying his head by the hair and blood dripping every where. The other thing they told was that they would hear the boys funny laughter like he was happy that he had scared some one. Several times over the years the place has been blessed by local priests but children at the school will claim to see Robby the boy who hung himself in October of 1892.
Near the front gate of the School For The Deaf and Blind pictured in the above picture two little girls wearing white dresses are often seen especially during thunder storms or just after thunderstorms near the front gate. On April 17th 1917 two girls aged 9 and 11 were found floating in a creek behind the Deaf And Blind School. The two little girls were first noticed missing near dark on April 16th but they were not found until the next morning. Both little girls were deaf and it had at first been assumed that they had run away. But the next morning when they were pulled out of the water each girls legs had been tied together and each girls hands had been tied behind their back. Each girl had also suffered blows to the head. The local police and the Florida State Police tried to find out who had committed these horrific murders but no one was ever arrested for the double murder.
But over the years many people have claimed to see two little girls in wet white dresses near the main gate to the school.
The Ghost Of The Priest
And there is a ghost of a Spanish Priest often seen on the grounds of the Deaf and Blind School that is believed to have been there for long before the building of the Deaf and Blind School. It is believed that the ghost of the Priest is a Priest that also committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at the rear of what is now the School For The Deaf and Blind. It was in 1678 that Father Clement hung himself after a young woman in the neighborhood said that the Priest had got her pregnant. He vanished one evening and the next morning he was found hanging by the neck from a tree in an area now behind the Deaf and Blind School.
Castillo de San Marcos , The Old Haunted Spanish Fort
Just down the street from the Deaf And Blind School is the old Spanish Ford called the Castillo de San Marcos and it is now part of the National Park System and open daily to the public. Again this place has been the site of much pain and suffering and the old Spanish Fort is said to be haunted by many ghosts.
A little Spanish boy in ragged brown pants tied with a rope and a to large white shirt is often seen running around the Fort. People see him often up on the wall above the cannons looking out over the bay and run to get him down. But he vanishes as they approach him. He is also seen in the field to the north of the old fort running around as if playing. In an old record book of the fort from the early Spanish period is the record of a 10 year old boy falling from the top of the wall of the fort on the bay side on the morning of June 9 1698. The boy was killed by the fall and in the notes of the log book which is in a museum in Spain it describes the boy as being in torn brown pants with a rope as a belt and a white shirt. It lists his name but that part of the page has been wet and you can't read the name. It is interesting to note that while the boy has been seen by people for at least the last 200 years the old Spanish log book was not even known of in America until 1991. And all down through that 200 years the boy was always described the same.
The Ghost Of The Girl At The Old City Gates
At the old city gates a young girl was found dead laying at the old city gates of St Augustine in 1917. There were no marks on her and she appeared to have just died. The first people who found her thought she was asleep. But she was dead. She was wearing a beautiful white dress with beautiful embroidery on it and she was buried in the dress she was found in. No one was ever able to find out who she was. When she was found she was laying on a beautiful multi colored hand made quilt. It is not known what became of the quilt.
Down through the years a beautiful young woman in a white dress with embroidery on it has been seen setting up on the wall of the old city gate of St Augustine. She is also seen walking in the area and has even been described as being up on the top of the old city gate wall dancing. Almost always she is described as being a beautiful young woman of 19-20 with long flowing dark brown hair and she is always described as wearing a long white dress with beautiful embroidered butterflies all over the dress. There have even been tales of her setting on a quilt just to the right of the old city gate. Most if not all of these people who describe seeing her have most often never heard or been told of the young woman in the white dress who was found dead in 1917. And no one has ever came forward saying they know who the woman was.
The Ghost Cat Of St Augustine
It was also in St Augustine while I was working there as a Chef that I met the Ghost Cat Of St Augustine. St Augustine is one of the most haunted cities I have ever been in. I saw more paranormal things at different locations than any other city I have ever been in.
My Paranormal Experience In The St Augustine Lighthouse
If your interested in the paranormal and you visit St Augustine be sure to visit the old St Augustine Lighthouse. The show Ghost Hunters did a show on the light house and I visited the light house on many occasions seeing and hearing paranormal activity every time I visited there. One of the spookiest things I ever witnessed was one time when I had walked up the light house steps and was walking back down the steps. Something or someone could be heard above I and my friend coming down the steps towards us. It sounded like someone in a hurry in heavy boots coming down the steps. But when we were up at the top of the light house no one was up there but us. When what ever it was got down to the point on the steps where we were I felt the hair stand up on my arms and head and the same thing happened to my friend. Then it continued on down the steps and we clearly heard the heavy footsteps as what ever it was hurried down the steps in front of us. It was one of the strangest paranormal experiences I have ever been a part of. It is told that what I and my friend experienced is the ghost of an old light housekeeper who is still doing his job many years after his death in 1927.
