Key West is one of the most unique places in the USA. Its 150 miles from Miami and only 90 miles from Cuba. Upon your first look Key West looks like the perfect tourist destination which it is but its also one of the most haunted places in the USA. And Key West has some of the highest Paranormal Activity of any place on earth. And some of the most unique spirits anywhere.

There's Robert the Doll said to be cursed or possessed by voodoo. Robert is the original Chucky and if you ask me he's just plain creepy. There are many tales about the doll but they generaly all agree that the doll was known to torment the little boy who owned it. After the boy was grown he said he would find the doll rocking its self in the old family home in a rocking chair. Well the man passed away and eventually the creepy doll found its way to Key West's Martello Museum where people still claim to hear the doll laughing and many have claimed to see it move.

Key West has one of the most famous Ghosts of anywhere in the world. And that is Ernest Hemingway. Yes the ghost of  Hemingway is said to have been haunting Key West ever since his suicide in July of 1961. He is often seen at his home in Key West and also at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West. He has been known to talk to people at Sloppy Joe's. He is also seen walking out the front door at Sloppy Joe's.

Located in a large old house on Duval Street in Key West the Hardrock Cafe is home to the ghost of Robert Curry. The house was built by William Curry who was Florida's first millionaire to be a wedding gift for his son Robert. Robert was a very sick man all his life but late in life he found himself in control of the Curry Family Fortune and it was not long until all the money was gone and Robert was broke. Robert Curry shot himself in a bathroom on the second floor of the house taking his own life.

The house is now the Hardrock Cafe but Robert Curry doesn’t seem to know that. Many people including Cafe staff and tourists have seen him walking around the house and then he vanishes. People in the Cafe late at night also say they hear a man walking on the second floor when no one is up there. Furniture is also sometimes moved around when the cafe is closed.

Haunted Fort Zachary Taylor

Yellow Fever once killed as many as 15 people a day at the fort. Over the years thousands of people died in the fort. Soldiers are seen to line up in formation and whistles and gunshots are heard in the fort. Downstairs in the fort there are very cold spots that should be impossible in the tropics. Several executions did take place here and every day at noon it is said you can hear the trap door open when some one is hung. Screams and pleas for mercy have also been heard to come from the jail area.

It is said that there are mass graves of yellow fever victims in under the forts parade ground. A young girl's ghosts with severe burns is often seen near the old hospital area. Many ghost hunters have visited Fort Zachary Taylor over the years and they say that all the deaths that occurred here have caused a hot bed of paranormal activity.

Captain Tony's is haunted. I've seen shadow people on and around the property for years. Thanks for the comment.

Captain Tony's Saloon is definitely haunted as well. It was Key West's original morgue & pirates were hung from the tree inside. The room where the foozball table sits has enormous energy. There are also two gravestones inside.

My friend and I had recently gone to Key West and did a ghost tour. The 930pm ghost tour took us to the tower where Robert was. We were taken thru the back entrance of the museum to see him, and while I was standing there I had felt something really warm right next to me; the couple who was standing behind me had one of those gadgets that measured paranormal activity and it was hitting the max. One lady on our tour bus also had a really nice pic of orbs taken. I can't wait to go back. It was a cool trip and tour!

I went to Key West in August of 2009 with my mom, my dad, my great aunt, and my 2 sisters. While there, we took a ghost tour and visited The Hard Rock Cafe. While upstairs listening to the story, I felt something brush against my leg. Right after that, the tour guide told us that many people report feeling something touch them. She also told us that the bathroom upstairs was very scary. Apparently, the door would jiggle and unlock and lock and someone would whisper your name. After we were finished, I learned that my mom and my aunt both felt someone breath heavily on their neck and my sister felt someone tickle her neck. But it was very cool.

I apologize, I may have neglected in my post to name the Key West location. Our stay was at the Eaton Lodge on Eaton Street 1 address from Duval Street, Key West, FL.

My husband & I and our daughter and her fiancé stayed at the Eaton Lodge the 1st weekend in May, 2009. It is an absolutely beautiful old conch style mansion set amongst gorgeous gardens. My niece and her husband also stayed here in the suite that once was Dr. Warren's exam room. I was awaken 2 of the 3 nights we were there by the banging of the shutter doors on either side of the upstairs exterior door which led to the balcony/veranda. The exterior door and the shutter doors are apparently left open much of the time in nice weather, both day and night! The first night I attributed it to the wind and simply went back to sleep. We were staying in the 2- room suite on the upper level adjacent to the veranda. The second night the noise was so annoying that I first wondered if it were deliberate, realizing there was no wind strong enough to cause such a disturbance. I peeked out the door into the hall but saw no one in the hall or landing. I went into the hall, shut and latched the shutter doors and closed the main door and promptly went back to bed. Interestingly, when we awoke early in the am, the doors were open once again. Although I had not heard anyone in the hallway, I assumed the housekeeper opened them back up. Oddly, niether my husband, daughter or future son-in-law heard the noises. My future son-in-law vaguely remembered hearing something in a half conscious sleep. No other guests left their rooms either to investigate the noises. I highly recommend this beautiful B&B to anyone visiting Key West. The owners are extremely hospitable as is their staff. It is so conveniently located to all the Duval St./Old Town attractions and the breakfast is wonderful.

This is great! I hadn't encountered any ghosts when we went but I"m sure they are everywhere in Key West. We also have Gettysburg near where I live and the stories that people tell us would make a great hub too.

Thanks for this awesome hub!

My husband and I took a ghost tour while at key west, and one of the stops was the abandoned club chameleon. I put my ear to the door and I swear that I heard soft footsteps and a knock on the glass...spooky and very cool.
