Rhyolite, Nevada Ghost Town

Hard to imagine that the town of Rhyolite Nevada once had a population of 10.000 plus persons. There is even a house here built of beer and whiskey bottles because lumber was in such short supply. Its interesting to think that people once lived here and went about their normal every day activities and then one day everyone just left. Hard to imagine indeed.

And with every ghost town of course you have ghosts. There are many tales about the ghosts lurking in Rhyolite Nevada and probably more than a few of them are true. There's the brown man said to be a gold prospector who died in the town after he brought huge nuggets in to town to be tested. The legend says he was poisoned by the barber to get the gold. He is seen as a brown shadow with a big floppy hat wandering around town.

Some people have claimed to see a really ancient looking old man leading a mule loaded down with gold mining equipment. He just appears out of nowhere walking down the street and then he vanishes as quickly as he appeared.

In Austin Nevada there is an old closed down Hotel called the International Hotel. Apparently there is a ghost there named Tommy who it is said was a former owner of the old closed down hotel. The old man ghost is seen near the old shut down bar and he is also heard moving around up stairs. Some people say that he has appeared to them and ordered them out of the building.

There are too many ghost tales to tell about Las Vegas except that the ghost of Elvis Presley is often see wandering around the strip. Some people have even claimed to see him driving a blue Cadillac convertible.

Ghost Stories From Virginia City Nevada

All kinds of strange paranormal things go on in the Virginia City Cemetery from a glowing tombstone to a tombstone that just won't stay put. People say the tombstone weighs several hundred pounds and it would take several men to move it. The tombstone has been moved several times and no one has ever seen it move. The strange thing is that you can clearly see the path it takes when it moves.

There is a strange fire in the cemetery that has been seen for years. People say it appears to look like a regular campfire but when you get to it there is no fire and no sign of one. Some people including some police officers have claimed to see shadows moving around the fire. Some people have also claimed to see and hear horses near the fire.

In the old Virginia City Cemetery there is a certain grave that is said to emit a strange unnatural light that is as bright as or brighter than the sun.

In the area of Virginia City known as the Virginia City Flats something or someone throws sticks, stones, and pieces of metal at people.

A large white dog appears and disappears right in front of the entrance to the old Virginia City Cemetery. Some people have made the claim that the dog has fiery red eyes that glow red other people have claimed to smell sulfur when the dog appears. Others have claimed to see smoke.

There is the ghost of a large Collie Dog that people have seen all over town for many years. It has been seen to run into the sides of buildings and simply vanish.

My buddy and I visited rhyolite on Thursday and had the most incredible experience. We were inside the mine doing an EVP session and on several occasions heard "Get Out" and "Go Now" As we were walking away from the mine I was enveloped by cold air. The hairs on my body were standing on end and I could feel a sort of electricity. Mind you it was 3 in the afternoon and in the mid ninties. My entire body was freezing and this cold mass followed me for a good 10 minutes. What ever this phenomenon was then jumped to my buddy he experienced the same freezing temperature. We were both in shock and really had a difficult time wrapping our head arounf this experience. We will definitely go back for more!

Staying at the Silver Queen lead to many investigations. In rooms 12 and thirteen, there is told to be Rosie, a prostitute who haunts those rooms. Woman, I Warn you. She does not like some woman in her rooms. Rosie likes to play tricks and mess around with woman. The Silver Queen warns guests who stay in her parts. There was this couple who was told about these strange mishaps and the lady said,"Rosie, You can do whatever you like to me because you will not be kicking me out of this room I'm staying in to be with my husband." Now, Rosie took that into consideration and that night after they had went to bed, the wife had woken up being very cold. She noticed all of the sheets were taken off of her and nicely tucked in on her husband's side of the bed. She laughed and pulled the blankets back onto herself. She woke up 2 hours later finding the blankets had been again pulled off, so she scowled and said," Now Rosie, I know I did say that you could do whatever you want to me but I'd please like to get some sleep. Rosie backed off. What an awesome experience, right? :)

Visited Virginia City last weekend. While looking through the Merchantile store I was touched on the shoulder. Turning around there was nothing and no one there. Just strange.

My uncle's friends went camping somewhere in Virginia City, and they took a bunch of pictures. When they went to develop the pictures behind the ppl in each you could cleary see a little girl with curly hair and she wears a puffy dress like they did back in the day, she seems to be about 5-7 yrs old.

So we did our first investigation as a team in Virginia City NV. We stayed at the Silver Queen and yes we all had our own experiences with the paranormal at this hotel. My partner Tanya and I both heard the growling of a woman at the same time. I was in my room at the end of the hall and Tanya was just outside the door. I was told by a local who works at one of the stores that the honeymoon suite is haunted by a woman who hates women...this may have been who we both heard. Funny that I heard this growl right when I put on my handy dandy noise reduction head set...but Tanya wasn't wearing them when she heard this growl too. Rick woke up the night before our investigation with a Trinity scratch at the tip of his boots. His docs were all pretty the night before this happened. He also had his shoe laces stolen in the room. I lost my socks(ha ha)and some other items with just a turn of my head. They were in my case one minute and when I crossed the room to bring back my shoes, they were gone. It was a single room that we stayed in so the possibility of somebody being in the room could not have happened. Only an invisible person could have been in my presence without me seeing them so I have my theory of this.It was before cocktail hour so don't blame it on the alcohol.

Tricia and Rick were in the room joining ours, throughout the whole stay, we all felt the movements of cold spots pass us by day and night.I removed the possibility of air flowing under the doors with blankets and the spots still happened in random places.I even saw something attempt to spoon Tanya the night of our investigation. The appearance of the mattress falling in beside tanya but without a visible body happened right in front of me. When I yelled for her to wake up it went away before she was able to witness my experience. I shot a photo a little too late but all I got in three shots was a levitating orb which seemed to be fleeing the general area.

We investigated the Washoe Club. Okay now, that place is the most active place I have ever experienced. One place has never offered up such a collection of spirits in my experience so far. This place certainly takes the cake as far as crowded with spirits. I had an extreme emotional experience in the crypt with Tricia by my side. I was so happy that she was their to help rescue my camera (and my dizzy self)because I was about to drop it and I was unable to shoot a very important photo after what I captured in this crypt. It was of a little boys face in gray. Tricia captured a Vortex. It was an incredible series of events that was guided by some kind of entity telling me where to point the camera next. There was much more dialog but that's for another time.

I am a believer in the fact that Virginia City is very alive with the after life. Call them ghosts or spirits or what ever you want just be nice cuz they can hear you and they can see you and they were their first. I say that it is alive with the past living the only way that may know how today and may be struggling with confusion, time passage, environmental and social changes. I can't say that they are dead cuz they are not. Yes they are medically speaking but they are still alive in a different way with an undeniable energy that mirrors that of ourselves. Its a past life living in our present day. If you just shut your mouth and close your eyes you can feel them and if your lucky, you will see them.

We did.

My husband and I just came back from a visit it Virginia City and we stayed one night at the Silver Queen Hotel. Unfortunately, the scariest thing about the hotel was the bed! We had a wonderful time touring the mines, operal house and riding the stagecoach, and even though we didn't see any spirits, the town has an amazing feel of times long gone by. It was wonderful and worth it, ghosts or no.

I grew up going to Virgina City every year to celebrate the Fourth of July. I can not count the number of ghosts, weird voices or nioses that came out of the blue and have no explanation. This town is what made me a believer of the paranormal. I clearly remember walking around with my cousion and her friend around dusk and we wanted to go down to take pictures of the St. Mary church and out of the blue this boy came running out in front of us hitting a huge wooden wheel with a stick and he ran into the cymetary. We went after him and upon entering the cymetary and seeing that no one was there we realized we saw a ghost. Then another year my grandma and I were in the Bucket of Blood we went to use the rest room and we came upon two men in old cowboy clothing and one was holding a gun at first we thought they were just people dressed in period clothing then it got really cold and I think we both realized at the same time what we were seeing were ghosts I dont think Ive ever seen my grandma run so fast in her life she ws dragging me behing her.She vowed to never go back to Virgina City with us again. There was also a time when we were taking our picture in front of the wagon they used to carry the dead and for a brief second we saw the reflecton of a woman in the glass and when we looked again there was nothing. There is also a house I was told it was an old cat parlor and on the second floor you could see a woman looking outta the window waving to us in period clothing my aunt and I went inside ( I think it was a museum now) and asked if anyone was up looking outta the window and we were told that the man we were talking to was the only person in the building he even went upstairs to check!!!Also experienced weird things in the Mark Twain library watched a book levitate and then a bunch of papers scatter all over, and at the Washoe club. Oh and on the mine tour the guide turned out the lights so we could see how dark it gets and at that time both my brother and I felt someone tugging on our shirts and were told that it happens regulary and it is the deceased miners playing games. This is such a fun beautiful place to go experience and I believe will turn any skeptic into a believer. They also have a candy shop with the best fudge and salt water taffy I have ever tasted!!! LOVE Virgina City looking forward to going on many vacations with my children there!
