How Does God Talk To People?

Conversation In The Wind

My own feeling is that God speaks to me through an inner voice. It is an intangible thing. There are no spoken words, no written words and no exact words. The message comes like the wind, the whisper in the trees as the leaves rustle.... A whistle calling my name as it passes through the limbs.

The message is a very personal one. It stirs my thoughts and emotions and this is our conversation. Birds singing in the morning.... Children laughing on a distant playground.... The sound of silence.... All of these sounds are the words of God to me. You can call me what you will. The sounds of everyday life are my conversation with God.

Sometimes it is noise. When I am all involved in my own life and what I am doing, the noise is not God's word at that moment. God's words come to me when I take the time to listen. When I silence my own mind and let my surroundings speak the words. That is when I hear the voice of God.

Hearing God's Voice

Personally this question is one that could be debated forever and a true answer might never be found. With that stated I have to write from my own personal opinion and then everyone will have to decide for themselves. How does God talk to people?

Now my intention here is not to start any kind of serious arguments because everyone has a right to free speech and freedom to think what they will. I am just relating my own personal feelings in regard to a question asked here on HubPages. Take it or leave it, think what you want. That is the good thing about living a life of so called freedoms.

It may be that you have never spoken with God or God has never spoken directly to you. Some would call you crazy if you claimed to have spoken to God. Others would say God speaks to us on a daily basis but we do not hear because we do not listen. There is much confusion and disagreement across the world about hearing God's voice. There are many who do not believe there is such a thing as God.

I hear God In The Water

While waves casually lap against the shoreline on a beach at sunset God comes to speak with me. Bright colors fill the sky with ever changing magic as the last light of day passes. Inner peace reaches deep inside my spirit and I know that God is telling me how lucky I am. To be there at that very moment and be able to see the wonder, I am blessed. The words softly caress my thoughts like the waves rolling across the sand. I hear the voice talking to my emotions. I know that everyone does not hear the same as me.

By Charles Austine Miles 1912

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
I'd stay in the garden with Him
'Tho the night around me be falling
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

"Inner peace reaches deep inside my spirit and I know that God is telling me how lucky I am." Inner peace is our gift from God. He talks to us in so many ways but we need to listen. He doesn't always tell us what we want to hear, but we need to listen. This was a warm and uplifting hub. I applaud your beliefs and your honesty. Great hub, voted up.

Goyakla,

Magic is what I am always in search of and I know I can find it every time I take a closer look at almost anything. I love life. Thanks for reading and commenting. I believe you are right about words getting in the way. Maybe that is why I enjoy my time alone so much more than many people do. I love the quiet and the conversations ...hehe

I think that when we put labels on things we destroy its uniqueness and in a way we kill its essence. Mind makes ordinary that which we first viewed as extraordinary. Like child seeing a stone or a leaf for the first time until he is told the name and then the leaf or stone loses its magic and becomes clumped in a file called stone or leaf. I think this is what happens when people now speak of God. The word God gets in the way of the magic of what most of us have filed away and forgotten You however have kept the magic alive and that is evident from this hub. Thank you for a great message.

Thanks Shalini maybe if we write about it more and put out the positive energy we can touch just one person each. Then it would go viral. Thanks for commenting with a positive note.

Eiddwen,

I am truly a simple person trying to share goodness. I hope you find some of that in my other hubs. I will follow you and try to read your writes as well.

I love the way you've summed it up: 'everyone does not hear the same as me.' If only we could all walk in the light that is given to us and tune in to the frequency of God's voice and love that is just ours and accept that everyone could hear a different godly voice or whisper, how wonderful and heavenly the world might be!

up and beautiful! Well written and informative. I like the use of the words to the song "In the Garden" as a fitting scenario...

Thanks for a wonderful personal take on the subject, Alexis. Here is my view from personal experiences and much reading of the scriptures. Seeing and hearing God in every bit of nature is God's way of reminding you of His Grace and Mercy. The Bible says,"Lo, I am with you alway". The human spirit needs to connect with God(Holy Spirit)on a daily basis. In many ways, including prayer. Life in many forms- a pregnant mother,a laughing child, an accident on the road, stray animals looking for food and water, a beggar, terminally ill patients all remind me of the Good Lord over us.

thanks for this. it isn't a matter of believing or not. It's a matter of listening. Truly listening. And you can't listen if you (or your mind) are chattering. Be willing . . . listen . . . and get ready to hear some amazing things.

Beautiful hub! "God's words come to me when I take the time to listen. When I silence my own mind and let my surroundings speak the words. That is when I hear the voice of God." that is much how it is with me, as well. Voted up and beautiful!
