How To Let Your Light Shine

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel but on a candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 KJV)

One of the most illuminating commandments in the Bible says, "Don't hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father." Just as a city that is sitting on top of a hill cannot be hid, we should let our light so shine so others can see it. The city's light at night shines in the midst of darkness can be seen for miles. We, having accepted the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior, should live for Him. Then our own lives will glow like lights showing others what Christ is like. A person's life is like a lamp, and if it does not help others to see, it is useless. We should be a beacon of truth for the rest of the world to follow their way to Jesus.

Since the light of Jesus' truth is revealed to us and is not hidden, we should not be selfish and try to keep the light to ourselves by hiding it under a bushel. Instead, we should put it on a lampstand for all to see.

As we do the good work which God has planned for us to do, our light will shine for all to see and to believe. It will carry the power of divine conviction to others. Christ is our light dwelling in us; yet shining in the world to help those who are in darkness find their way to God. Every believer is needed for this task.

Jesus Christ Himself is the source of light, and those who desire light must receive it from Him. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, and the darkness has not and will not extinguish that light. God is the Creator of light, and through his Son, Jesus Christ, light was brought to all.

The coming of Jesus was a great light to the world. Jesus was perfect. His purity and holiness are adequately illustrated only when compared to light. Anyone who believes in Him and receives this light needs never again live in darkness.

The world is filled with darkness of sin and suffering, disappointment and despair, heartache and helplessness. In the darkness of our lives, we cry out for a new way of seeing - a new way of understanding.

In the presence of God, we become aware of our sinful nature. His light shows sin in our lives. In Him there is no darkness at all. To walk in the light is to live in fellowship with the Father and the Son.

Jesus is the true light. We can avoid walking blindly through life and falling into sin by following Him. He lights the path ahead of us so we can see how to live. He removes the darkness from our lives, but when we feel that we are surrounded by darkness, it is only the shadow of Jesus standing between us and our enemies.

Jesus came into the world so that everyone who believes may not remain in darkness. He helps us see our way to God, and He shows us how to walk along that way.

Therefore, our job is to shine for Him in an unbelieving world. As we let our light shine, the light of Christ reflected in our lives helps those in darkness find their way. When we receive the light of life from God, we continue to walk in the light of fellowship with Him, and He makes us shine as light in the dark world. We cannot create light, but we can reflect the glory of Jesus so that others may see Him in us.

How interesting that God should give the world light as one of His first gifts. On the very first day of Creation, He said, "Let there be light and there was light." (Genesis 1:3) In the same way, the first step in the spiritual birth of an individual is for light to come. God commands the light of understanding to shine in our hearts.

Light is indispensable to life. Without light, the world as we know it could not exist. Without light, nothing could grow. Without light, there would be no color or beauty.

Have you allowed the light of Christ to shine in your life? If so, those who see you need never to stumble in darkness again because you are letting your light shine for them!

I was just thinking of this a day or so ago, how a lighthouse has no other communicating ways other than to shine the light. That is just what we need to do is continually shine the light, the blessed Gospel light that shines from shore to shore.

Michael, thanks for mentioning the lighthouse. I think I will change the picture in my article to a lighthouse because that is a very good illustration of how a believer can be a beacon for the unbeliever to come to God.

Thanks revmjm for shining the light in these Hubpages. I am grateful for your light's presence.

We are called to be the salt and light, we should never take that for granted.

Bless you my dear sister.

revmjm: Well done my sister. We are the light, not to be buried under a bushel basket, but to shine for all to see.

Yes, indeed Dave. We are the light of the world so others might see us and turn to God. Thanks for reading and responding.

Thanks for your hub (s) revmjm, I just finished your thoughts on the rapture as well. God never sends out his word without it accomplishing his desire. Darkness seems to be growing but I fear it's due to so many of us not allowing God's light to shine through us. PRayers and blessings
