How to Communicate With Your Spirit Guides

They're Always Communicating With You

Once you get to know your guides and can recognize their energies when they are around (see Getting in Touch With Your Spirit Guides), you can begin communicating with them directly. They’re always helping you even when you don’t realize it, usually through those intuitive nudges you get throughout the day, but you can also ask specific questions. Your guides love it when you ask for help.

Getting Started: Yes/No Questions

In learning to get answers from your guides, it’s easier to start with yes/no questions. To start, ask a question that you know the answer to, such as, “Is the sky blue?” Note what feelings take over. What does a “yes” look, feel, taste, smell or sound like? When you got your “yes” answer, did you see a green light in your third eye, feel a flutter in your heart area, or hear a ringing in your ear? Maybe you are clairaudient and actually heard your guide say, “Yes.” Ask a series of “yes” questions until you establish what symbols your spirit guide presents to you consistently. Repeat the process with some “no” questions.

Then you can move on to asking legitimate yes/no questions that you do not have an answer for. Ask something simple about your day, such as, “Will one of my coworkers call in sick today?” Take note of the answer your guide gives you and see if it comes true. It’s fun to build your intuitive skills this way, and your guides enjoy playing along. Nothing is too small or silly for them to participate in. They want you to develop your intuition and learn to communicate with them better – it makes their job a lot easier if you actually hear and pay attention to what they’re telling you!

Other Questions

Once you feel comfortable with yes/no questions, you can move on to open-ended questions. Just ask a question and answer it by saying the first thing that comes to mind. If you feel you’ve drawn a blank, maybe you need something to focus on so you can get out of your own way. Tarot cards are a great focal point. You don’t need experience with Tarot cards to let your guides speak to you through them. Simply connect with your guides and think of your question while shuffling the cards. Then lay down a card and say the first thing that comes to your mind. It may have nothing to do with the pictures you see on the cards, but go with it anyway. Keep flipping over cards and saying whatever pops into your head until you feel you have an answer.

With or without using cards, it takes some practice to feel comfortable answering open-ended questions. You may doubt yourself at first, especially if the answer you get makes no sense. Do not dismiss these insights, as what comes out when you’re not thinking too hard usually has the greatest meaning. Just write it all down and check back later to see if the things you said came true.

Like Chatting With a Friend

With enough time and practice, you’ll eventually get to a point where you’re having entire conversations with your spirit guides. They are there to help you, and it’s to your benefit to learn to communicate with them so you can accept the guidance and companionship they have to offer. Once you become adept at chatting with them, it’s like having a best friend and counselor with you at all times.
