How to Test Rudraksha

Wearing an original Rudraksha is as important as wearing a Rudraksha. On the first place, if you tend to ignore the factor of checking the quality and authenticity of it, then you hold chances of getting an unauthentic or a sham replica of a bead. Most of the time, it will remain ineffective, but in some cases, it might create an altogether adverse impact. Thus, while you were anticipating for positive results, you might instead suffer from negative results. One sure shot way to avoid that to happen is by testing a Rudraksha. You can test Rudraksha by varied and wide number of ways, such as water test, cut test, properties test, eye test, temperature test, etc. Read on to learn more about them.

1. Water Test

On a close study of the authentic and unauthentic beads, it has been found that most of the time a fake bead would be assembled up of two or more beads. In such cases, there will be joints on them. Water test can help in revealing that. It involves a simple process, as a part of which a Rudraksha bead is poured in water for about half an hour. In case where a bead is a sham replica created out of joining two or more beads, the joint part(s) will get highlighted by discoloring itself.

Besides this, another way with which you can test genuineness of a Rudraksha is by noticing it in water, i.e. whether it floats or sinks. However, this particular test is not scientifically proven to be effective all the time.

2. Cut Test

Though, it is far more effective and accurate with its results, but it might make considerable amount of damage to a bead if not performed cautiously. It involves cutting of a bead from the centre to count the number of compartments from inside, and compare it with its Mukha (natural lines) on its shell. A genuine form will always have both of them in same numbers.

3. Properties Test

It involves a process of assessment of the physical and chemical properties of a bead to check its genuineness. Usually, this process involves testing of inductance, capacitance, and conduction of electric current in the bead. As everyone is not well versed with such scientific processes and the expertise involved with it, only related experts can perform it.

4. Magnetic Field Test

As the name goes, it is for the purpose of checking the magnetic field of a bead, which is another effective way of checking its authenticity. As a part of its process, a Rudraksha bead is placed on a copper coin, in such a way that the two poles of origin of lines respectively directs in north and south direction. It is followed by bringing another copper coin slowly and gradually in parallel and opposite to the copper coin on which Rudraksha bead is rested. As that occurs, a genuine bead will wave slightly either to left or right, and a fake one will remain motionless.

This occurs because of the intrinsic physical properties and magnetic field of a bead, which remains in absence in a fake form. Besides checking the genuineness of a bead, it is also an effective way of determining the nature of energies rested in a bead. A bead waving to the right side depicts it to be a bead comprised of positive energies, and a bead waving to the left side depicts it to be a bead comprised of negative energies.

5. Eye Test

An unauthentic bead, as already stated, is adjoined with two or more beads, and therefore has joints over them. It can be trapped easily, if one uses a zoom lens with 10X features to see it.

6. Temperature Test

As a part of this test, a bead is poured in water. While a genuine form will result in a rise in temperature of the water of about 1 to 2 centigrade (if noticed after about half an hour), a fake form will not cause any sort of increase or decrease on the temperature of water.

7. Milk Test

This is one of the easiest and most popular of all the test forms. As a part of this test, a bead is poured in milk. While a genuine form will not let that milk get spoiled even after two days, in case of a fake form, the milk will get festered.

Practically, any of these test methods can be implemented only after you actually buy your Rudraksha bead. Therefore, while these methods can be effective for knowing the authenticity of a Rudraksha, it might not bring back the money you put in it. Therefore, go by your instinct, and prefer to buy Rudraksha beads from a place, which you find genuine and reputable enough.
