I am not afraid of God

Pardon me for I choose not to be afraid of God.

It is one thing to belief that God exist or does not exist then another thing is how we understand God, if we belief he exists. The understanding of God means the kind of relationship we have with him, our knowledge about him, what we believe by faith or experience that he can do, and our general view of God.

Atheist may have nothing to bother about God or any reason to be afraid of God or God’s punishment, after all, to him, God does not exist. The theists have various and conflicting understanding of God, some of them see God as a loving father of all tribes and nations. Some of them see God as a God that loves Israel most and from Israel extends his love to other nations and tribes. Some people see God as a merciful God even so merciful that he could not send his creatures to hell, while others oppose such idea. We can find various conflicting theological theories of God and each theory wants to claim superiority and authenticity above the others. It is not the purpose of this work to go into the various details and theories because people already know most of the theories and people can easily find out more, if they want, from those that have the beliefs.

I was discussing with a young pastor who is aware that I am a difficult person to deal with terms of religion. This is because he is aware that I raised above all religious borders by my ability to tolerate the diverse religious views which most people, even my family, still find it strange to understand me. That is why most people find it difficult to deal me, as they said, in that area because people have failed to convince me to take sides. But if they know the truth then they would not have tried to change my purpose of existence. The pastor was shocked when I said that “I am not afraid of God”. His reaction is not surprising because, like I said earlier, people have various views of God. Most of those that beliefs in God expect that people even themselves should be afraid of God. Maybe this is because God is the almighty, powerful, supernatural being that exceeds all understanding.

They may be right that we should be afraid of God. No wonder the Israelites trembled when they heard God’s voice like a thunder that they begged he spoke no more to them but to Moses. Whatever maybe the reason for people to expect us to be afraid of God, I cannot really understand or point out but what I know is that I love God and I respect him but I am not afraid of him. It is because of my love and respect for God that I shall live a life pleasing to him. We all have the right to choose the kind of relationship we want with God. That is the secret of all the ages. Some people choose to be prophets of God. Some people choose to be called servants and messengers of God. Moses, Elijah, among others are found in this list of messengers and prophets of God but Jesus choose to be called the son of God and that changed a lot of things because people now realize that they can be called sons and daughters of God “ beloved now are we called sons of God.”

Therefore it all depends on the kind of relationship you have with your God for your God may not be my God but one thing I am sure of is that I shall not desire to worship or serve a God that I will be afraid of. Maybe that is why I am not afraid of my God. Who will I run to in the time of trouble, if I am afraid of my sole trust and companion? Who will be my hiding place? How can I be afraid of my father? How can I have pleasure, comfort, and confidence to go to the presence of God, if I am afraid of him? Well I do not know your answers to these questions. You can choose the kind of God you want. You can tremble in the presence of your God. You can be afraid to stand before your God. You can be afraid to dine in the table of your God because you choose to be a servant. You can choose to be called my son or daughter while you call God my father. You can choose to be a part of the heavenly table as a son.

I know that I have the right to make my own decision and mine alone for that reason, I do not boost but I have to let people know that it is in their hands to decide the relationship they want with God and you live the life so that you are found worthy. That is why I am not afraid of my God and that is because of the kind of relationship I have with him.

A man after God’s own heart let those that have the keys of David hear this.

David: Jesus says it perfectly in JOHN:3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." God is a God of love, not a God to be feared. The ones who need fear him are those who deny him and deny Jesus.

Thanks , once again, Dave. I am certain that some people see God as one to be afraid of but it is their own understanding. I choose not to be afraid of my God like I wrote.

No wonder your religion causes so many wars.

Mark, "your religion" means which religion? Do you mean all religion or just a particular religion? I am certain you do not know my religion so you better put it right. Secondly, why would someone that finds pleasure and comfort in the presence of his God cause war?

Your religion. You know - the one with the wrathful, vengeful god who murdered hos own son and bought him back to life with majik for nonsense reasons that you are not scared of.

The ones who need to fear him are the ones that deny jesus? LOLOL

Fear mongering nonsense which causes nothing but conflicts. :(

you mean God killed his own son and brought him back to life? It is an interesting belief. You have the right to choose your own religion but it seems you do not have any. Not all religion is violent in nature or teachings. Not being afraid of God has nothing to do with religious conflict in this situation.

It is a belief that invariably causes conflicts. Fear and fighting talk - which your majik book is full of - have been causing conflicts for thousands of years.

Of course - they were not REAL christians LOL

My main objective is religious tolerance so I do not claim that religion does not cause conflict but it also cause hate speech, discrimination, among others. However it is by those that do not tolerate others so not all religious people make conflict for its sake.

I am not tolerant of the attitudes and behavior your religion teaches. Why should I be?

Your religion is the most intolerant religion ever invented. I wonder if you have even read your majik book. Probably not huh?

You don't choose to be a prophet of God David, he chooses you.

And you Mark, In some of your Hubs I've seen, you've accused religion of causing wars; well you should be grateful for the ones it has averted. The Bible teaches us Christians to live peaceably with all men.

Mark you maybe right that religion has caused conflict. Micheal even Christain make hate speeches and in the past they punished people that questioned their teachings. Mark my aim is to see a world were religion will not divide but unite us. Even if we follow different path. Michael, it is your understanding that God choose his prophet but you did not really get. God does not force people to follow or be his prophet. It depends on how you live your life and if it pleases God then he can relate with you.

Michael a prophet or servant or son of God usually does not follow the crowd. His ways are different because of his desire and relationship with God. God can choose someone but it depends on the person to decide how commited to be in the relationship. That is why it is more on us to decide because their is no barrier between us and God except the kind of life we live. A prophets are not of the same strenght because of how they are willing to forget the physical and look to the spiritual.

"If you are not with me, you are against me" is what your religion teaches.

It will ALWAYS cause division - always. Have you actually read this majik book?

Mark you said Majik book is the bible so I have read it. Religion will cause division to those that want to use it as a base for division. the quote " he who is not with me is against me" depends on your understanding. It can simply be put " he who is not good is bad" this is more clear to understand provided we know the difference between good and bad. Jesus told his followers when they complained that someone who is not a disciple preached in Jesus name.He said it dnt matter since it was not against him.

Away, thanks for your comment. What actually did you support in Mark's comments? That religion cause war or what?

@Dave Matthews

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; FEAR THE LORD, and turn away from evil." -Proverbs 3:5-7

@davidkaluge

"And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul, but that whoever would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman."

2 Chronicles 15:12-13

Since you guys just don't get it, there it is, in black and white. Quoted directly from your magical fairy tale book. And michael1119, the Bible teaches to live peacefully with other Christians. You are taught that if you are not a Christian that you are not worthy of living. The Bible has not averted any wars, free thinking and acceptance has.

Crest, thanks for your comment. You seem to suggest that the bible is the cause of war and other disagreement. You quoted the old Testament which I think do not agree completely with the New Testament. The same God that said kill... is also seen in New Testament to be very merciful that he sent his son. The point people fail to understand is that the Old Testament found in the bible is basically the views of Israel and their God. Others have their God. Teaching Jesus brought didn't go well with the Jews.

You speak loudly for someone who has not examined his own fundamental existential assumptions.

If you believe you have, then simply name the first three assumptions which all reasonable men must make before claiming to know anything.

Thanks Jerry for your input. Do you mean Mark is claiming knowledge of things he don't know?

Bryan 3 years ago

Perfect point. A son or a daughter should always run to their father in time trouble. If we fall short what does God say to do. Get up and go at it again. If we are in fear of God's punishment why should we even run the race? God is a rewarder of those who seek him not a punisher.

Thanks Bryan for your comment. I wonder who we will run to if we are afraid of our father.
