I want but cannot

DON’T DO IT

Almost every day I want to return to a relationship I had three years ago. It deeply grieves me that to date that is impossible. You know why? The people involved in that relationship were terribly abusive to me. Yes I have forgiven them, but they refuse to even admit what they did much less apologize. I have learned both from experience and from learning from others experience in the same situation that if they do not apologize and stop this behavior if I return the abuse will only get worse. The foolishness of the heart say they can be reasoned with and then the relationship will be reconciled. The reality is that each of the three previous attempt ended in disaster for guess who?

So too it is with sin.

Maybe you have been on the wagon for years and run into an old drinking buddy who invites you for a drink for old times sake. You remember all the supposed good old days and want to return. What you forget is the damage done in your health, relationships and job because of the drinking. DON’T DO IT.

I recently read an article about a man who had just such an experience but he went for the drink. Seven days later he woke up in another country with his mind completely blank on what he did or how he got there.

How about gambling or watching porno’s? Whatever your addiction, the devil will come and tempt you with supposed pleasant memories of the fun you had while leaving out the destruction that was left in the aftermath.

Isn’t that the way all sin is? The fantasy never meets the reality and leaves a trail of destruction behind.

But there is an escape clause. His name is Jesus. When tempted call upon His mighty name, have Bible verses written out and carry them with you everywhere so that when temptation comes be like the old cowboys who would quick draw their pistols you quick draw your Bible verses and Jesus.

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptationhas overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be temptedbeyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-14 New International Version

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Shalom (God of our peace) for giving me the wisdom and peace in Your strong arms when the waves of past temptations come ceaselessly at times crashing down upon me. I give thanks in the name of Him who lifted Peter out of the waves that night Christ Jesus. Amen.

May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.

When we have found the Answer, it is very difficult to see people from the past who have not found Him yet. Sometimes it is best to "shake the dust off your feet" after 3 attempts. Remember Gal. 6:1. Wishing you the best!

Good morning Paul.

Thank you.

Good morning doctor.

I have learned to explain the truth in a simple easy to understand way. It is not that they do not understand, it is that they do not want to understand. In that case I just walk away knowing I have done my best. And, yes, to pray for them.

God bless you.

Thanks for sharing. In my many experiences of trying to reconcile with my family and those I love and hold dear....I have faced very similar experiences. Simply, their perceptions of events are not my perception of the events....even though I have owned up to my mistakes....they do not own up to theirs. The thing that I have learned and held dear is that God does not go against one's own will....therefore, I have no right or privilege to do so either. My pray in these situations is that God will remove the scales from their eyes....deceptive thoughts and lies....and enlighten the eyes of their understanding. Too, I pray that my heavenly Father prepares me and my heart....that when they do return....I will not harbor bitterness, anger or resentment. The story of Joesph and his ten brothers gives great insight to this....the separation had occurred to prepare for an upcoming event in time. Stand firm....keep the faith....trust God, He knows what He is doing when we seem to have no clue why things have occurred as they have. Peace in Jesus name.

Occasionally, this type of temptation surfaces and when it does you sometimes find yourself off guard and fall prey to it. The more we keep anchored and build our faith, the better we are at discerning the danger and overcoming. Thanks for the inspiration and reminder of keeping our guard at all times. Blessings.

Good morning teaches.

That is very true. I know since studying the word and having more of God in my life I am nowhere near as guillable as at one time.

I just published an article called: Asking for help from my brothers and sisters.

God directed me to a site that connect writers with many devotionals and would like to send a letter of inquiery. They acept freelance work.Would you look at it and offer any suggestions on how to improve it please? You have so much more experiance than me and your opinion is greatly respected and appreciated.

Thank you.

May the Holy Spirit be your mine detector and protect you from any spiritual and other booby traps.

Thank you, life is often filled with trials and tribulations....but, the Holy Spirit will guide one through them all....one must be receptive to His leading and willing to act upon it. It is not always easy....but, our heavenly Father, God is always faithful and willing! Blessing to you....seek and you will find.

Good Evening teacherjoe52

Sorry for delays in responding....I work graves and between handling errands try to sleep. God is good all the time. I pray and receive His strength, provision and protection everyday....and am grateful and thankful for every blessing that presents itself....would not want to even think about what would come or happen in my life if God was not in it. Blessing and prosperity to you in all areas of life.

Good morning Crdelia Bay.

I always hated the graveyard shif but loved the afternoon shift.

It is something I dread, that I would stray away from our Beloved. I can't inagine one moment without Him.

May you always enjoy your walk in the garden with our beloved friend Jesus.

Thanks....teacherjoe52. My shift is not that bad, as I am often awakened at night to intercede for another....this way....I can accomplish a few things at once. I can pray as I work.....and, draw closer to my heavenly Father. I, too, do not want to imagine a moment without Him in my life! Be blessed and encouraged through your journey of life....knowing that when events become more than we can bare....He always makes a way of escape.....or, gives instruction to accomplish the solution. God's peace and joy be with you.
