Inheriting the Vision of An Angel

Sometimes we need to help others better appreciate their own beauty within. Better yet, As Much As Possible, instead of “sometimes.”

We have to go through their experience of feeling "singled out" by fate to be lowly, excluded, to be able to understand where they are coming from. We have to have experienced extreme difficulties to want to rise above them. And when we do, that’s when we can say we “truly feel for others” and hopefully use our sight to shine a light into their darkness … of self-/society-imposed limiting beliefs.

I have had the fortunate experience of all the above. And the person at the “receiving end” of being helped or “helpee”, may be described as follows:

  • Intimidated by bullies
  • Overwhelmed by “major” problems
  • Measures success/happiness in physical, material terms
  • Usually resorts to blaming self, others, the past, the system
  • Judgmental of self or others, always comparing
  • Low self-esteem

The personality described above is actually mine. And being the self-proclaimed lifelong learner that I am, I sought out principles that made sense to me in trying to understand this personality.

“Without the pretense of certainty, it is easy to be compassionate. So the sage teaches with double edge. Those who learn think they are learning the ordinary that can be understood, while deep within they are learning the extraordinary that is beyond understanding.”

- “The Pretense of Certainty”, Ray Grigg

.

“Knowing others is called understanding. Knowing self is called wisdom.”

- “When Thinking, Think For Everything”, Ray Grigg

In the process of trying to understand my personality type in the light of my experiences, I received insights from meditation, hourly short prayers*, dreams and songs (e.g. Songs and Soul: A Spiritual Experience)

Now that I have the principles, it seems that what is needed is to constantly practice in order to develop one’s spiritual “muscles”. And when the lesson is forgotten (or not learned from the experience), the experience repeats itself as a drill to improve “performance” level. So I put this personality in the right place to admit, that it is an amateur trying to learn its life lessons, seeing that some of the lessons learned in the past decades are still in progress. And have to be reminded by internal or external queues of going back to the Beginner’s Mind and not assuming that the lesson has already been “memorized."

.

Then I came upon (aka “by synchronicity”), Anthony de Mello’s Awareness, an eighty-plus-page book available from the world wide web for anyone curious enough to know the details on how the author proposes to develop awareness or what others call mindfulness. One had to develop/practice using a perspective of viewing oneself objectively, i.e. from an outsider’s point of view. I had mentioned regarding the significance of this book in one of my hubs before and will update this hub once We have the hub title.

Of course, it goes back to “different strokes for different folks”. Some may appreciate his ideas, some may not. Some may find it useful. To those who find it useful, it would be worthwhile to practice the objective observer perspective for at least three weeks to develop some facility with it.

.

Questions:

  • Is this, the objective observer point of view, the inherited vision of an angel, sent through De Mello to mankind?
  • What implications are indicated if people can interact with each other coming from this perspective as against insisting on what one wants versus what the other wants? Will we not prefer what is needed by the situation instead of what is needed for political reasons (e.g. what I want versus what you want)?
  • .
  • Will it become husband and wife instead of husband versus wife?
  • Will it become brother and sister instead of brother versus sister?
  • (No offense in the order of the gender. Just following what seems like the order of the day or a more common way of enumerating the roles among the gender.)
  • Will it become leader and led instead of leader versus led?
  • Will it become country to country instead of country versus country?
  • Will it become humankind and earth instead of humankind versus earth?

I probably experimented with putting into practice De Mello’s “awareness” in the past. Recalling another hub where I make mention of a vision of how a drawer roller needs to be fitted into the space to make it latch on and open/close properly. I was in the home owner role, the other person was in the handy man role. The handy man is supposed to know what to do but was having a difficult time fitting the drawer in. For some reason, I received a visual in my mind of how the roller can go in, fitting properly.

.

… “what is needed” instead of who is what (role); needs-to-be-done perhaps as main consideration instead of “political” reasons.

.

I had wanted to write a hub, possibly, “De Mello’s ‘Awareness’ Revisited”. Maybe someday.

Yesterday, I had a friend worrying about something. I just shared with her my short prayer:

“Angels now! In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.”

I have explained to her that in my experience, it has consistently helped ease my worry in the past. Maybe she prayed. Her day went smoother than expected. But then again, it’s different strokes for different folks. We may have thought the same language, both coming from a Roman Catholic perspective.

Yesterday, my earth plane experience took on a similar vision as I had with the cabinet roller.

Twice, I saw myself as if hovering over people in a conversation seeing what was keeping them from “linking” soul-to-soul. It was as if I was actually seeing through the lenses/blinders that either clouded or enhanced participants’ view of each other, of the situation.

Is this the perspective that angels here on earth with us see through? So that they can understand the limitations (i.e., “blinders”) on peoples’ minds that biases are putting on the situation? So that angels can help when asked for assistance?

“… in the world, but not of this world.” Perhaps Jesus is referring to angels living among us, in our midst but with mindsets much like ours but free from the “ego”, which of “this world”.

Perhaps He is referring to the ideal perspective that we need train our minds (How to Train Your Dragon: A Metaphor) from. We can try but without forcing ourselves, gently. And be momentary sages knowing the bliss that angels may be experiencing knowing God’s kingdom. As Ray Grigg says, “a fool lost in thought and in the world.”

… To lose the world and to know God’s kingdom as one’s inheritance …

.

Eastern or Western-style philosophy, religion … which one? Maybe all of the above. Does it matter? It seems like it’s the experience, which is beyond words, that counts.

Maybe because I badly needed to help my mother rise above her discouragement (i.e., by providing encouragement**) with a difficult life transition that I needed to see through her “blinders.”

I say to her I too am like that. I took after you. It never felt good to think that way.

Hopefully, I can say that to everyone (e.g., at least in my mind as this can help me overcome judging and comparing myself to my neighbor too):

I too am like that. It never felt good to think that way.

I think like you too. I hurt like you do.

C. G. Jung has mentioned about a collective unconscious that we all share here on earth. Perhaps there is much to learn from what he wrote and taught and lived. The talk that he walked.

.

Perhaps We are the One in the All. On earth, it does seem like we are mirrors to each other. We may have different personalities but we share the same feelings, the same thoughts, the same sufferings and joys, the same Love and Compassion … It is a loving, compassionate journey through difficulties and joys learning from others mirroring what we need to know about our self.

.

.

Helping others is helping our self, e.g., helping others without expecting anything in return have made some happy. Still, others have their own version of what makes them happy, which we can only intuit by going beyond judging through "blinders."

.

The journey together is the happiest when learning and sharing the spiritual lessons that our soul came to earth for.

From this angel’s vision, I have “seen” how much Mom has helped me come so far in my lifelong learning. There’s so much to thank her for beyond description, through the “good” and “bad” times.

There’s so much to be thankful for when know, when grace opens our eyes to see and not just look. Eventually, we all get there. Maybe like myself hypothetically or by surface knowledge at first; glimpses of knowing, next; then more enduring experiences as mystics and saints had in the long run. Who knows?

While keeping in mind what we learners/teachers always say, “Practice makes perfect”, keep in mind, that the path is the goal, being present in the now, (e.g., in the objective observer’s point of view) allows for the experience of the vision.

.

From this place or perspective may one see that what one’s personality (or ego self) judges as or perceives to be the “enemy” is actually a noble soul, volunteering to be part of the circumstance needed to provide the impetus for learning the moment’s spiritual lesson.

.

Unless they make sense to you, you have no need for these ideas right now. But maybe someday or eventually, something will float back to conscious memory. Maybe something like what was described in a book I recall having read in the past, Betty Eadie’s***?:

Our body self/personality usually forgets what our soul knows once we have assumed an earth life.

."Experiencing the world in which you live requires your heart; you cannot grasp it with your intellect and your five senses because they provide you with only part of the picture," (from "Thoughts from the Heart of the Soul").

Then the “someday” arrives and you sense déjà vu.

.SPECIAL THANKS go to Dr. Elaine N. Aron for having written “The Highly Sensitive Person”, which contains passages producing insights for “connecting the dots.” Having seemingly understood the role of the HSP as a spiritual in the evolution of human consciousness, these passages made clearer sense of past Quirinus hubs and actual experiences, and gave greater depth to the insights recalled from previously reading other writers' books and having received spiritual guidance from other sources such as songs and dreams.
