20 Inspirational Quotes From The Saints

Cover of Matthew Kelly's "Rediscover Catholicism"

Why the Saints?

I have always been a word person, a quotes person. I collect quotes that inspire me, or that make me think, or which I believe will lead others to think.

Why are saint quotes part of my collection? Well, they inspire me. Specifically, they inspire me in my faith. In his book Rediscover Catholicism, Matthew Kelly says, " The saints are living and practical proof that Christ's philosophy works. The saints show us that it is possible for a human to be fully transformed in Christ" (83).

As a Christian my goal is to be, as Kelly put it, "transformed in Christ." The saints words inspire me to pray more, to think more, to treat others better.

Do you enjoy reading quotes?

  • Yes - I write them down and collect them.
  • On occasion, or when others share them with me.
  • No - doesn't really interest me.
  • No - but I might start paying more attention.

A very nice collection of quotes.....I like all of the 20 you listed but I think the one I liked the best was by St. Teresa of Avila

"It is love alone that gives worth to all things." ......awesome words by some very smart people....voted up and interesting and beautiful

Thanks cogerson, and I agree they are definitely a smart group. Teresa of Avila definitely had some wisdom in her writings.

Great quotes! I really like, "Preach the Gospel at all times, when necessary, use words." Too often Christians use too many words, rather than allowing their lives to be a witness go the character and goodness of God. Voted up, and tweeted!

Thanks Lady E glad you enjoyed! I will have to follow your twitter feed to check out more of those quotes.

2besure - That's a great point. Sometimes we rely on word instead of action, and worse sometimes our actions don't reflect our words. St. Francis is a great reminder to live a life that reflects God's will.

Once again excellent work, ElleBee! The words of some of our Saints live on in your writings; what a significant blessing... They are all excellent; however, I am drawn significantly by this:

"Faith is to believe what you do not see. The reward of this faith is to see what you believe."

- St. Augustine of Hippo

Connorj and Rose-the-planner glad you enjoyed. Sorry it took me so long to approve your comment, rose, it wasn't showing up in my comments for some reason so I overlooked it. I like those quotes as well rose, especially Kolbe's - he is one of my favorite saints, and I think he has such strong relevance for us today in the 21st century. I like that one a lot as well connor - I attended a school sponsored by the Assumptionists, their patron is St. Augustine and so I started to become familiar with him. I think I would appreciate his writing a lot more now, so I'm planning to reread one of his works soon.

"If you are what you should be you will set the whole world ablaze." Love this! After many years in the corporate and retail world, I feel like I'm finally living my life the way I was meant to. This definitely spoke to me and at such a perfect time. Peace be with you :)

Thanks Heather Says -- that was a new quote for me, which I found in writing this article, but it reminded me a lot of the Ignatius quote right above it, which is one of my all time favorites!

'Faith is to believe what you cannot see.' My clan logo was made up by cautious Scots, and it doesn't read 'We believe in God.' It reads 'We Hope in God.' Nice Hub ElleBee.

Very nice, I like that version John. Glad you enjoyed the hub.
