Jesus--Relationship or Religion
Over the years my wife has dabbled with writing. Up until now she's kept it a personal thing, but now she wants to share it. She's not sure she wants to open a HubPages account. so I've posted this for her. Let her know what you think.
While at work today, I saw a flyer about prayer that caught my eye. You see, I had been challenged to pray more myself. As I looked more closely at the flyer, my mind and thoughts reflected on all that was taught to me.
First, let us look at religion. Most of us have been taught some form of religious belief at some time in our lives. Tradition has also shaped many of us along the way. Some agree with others, never looking to see the truth for themselves.
As for me, I am one that has been there and even now I must be careful to guard and stand for the very One who has been following me. You see, this one is Jesus, and there is none else. Jesus is like no other and once you begin to know Him, you will never be the same. Only Jesus can change the world. He has and will continue until the very end.
You see, Jesus offers us a relationship. It is personal. It is for everyone who is willing to come to Him. Jesus offers Himself to all. No one is excluded. Once you start to learn of Him, and personally allow Him to show you all He is and all He did for us, you will never be the same. Jesus’ name alone says it all—Savior.
So many may know of Him, but do not really know Him. I understand this because this used to be me as well. I thought I knew Him. I thought I was okay, but as I began to let Jesus into my life and allowed Him to search me, I saw this One who knew every detail of my life.
At first, my life was a real mess. I needed a Savior who could and would deliver me from every thing He already knew to be wrong in my life. Meeting Him was so exciting. My heart wanted Him. I knew I needed Him—so I responded.
As I began, things were going well, but I still had much to learn. Tradition was still much of the teaching, but God’s mercy was slowly pulling down the barriers. You see, when we see Jesus—I mean really see Jesus we are changed. No one can stand in His presence and not be changed.
Jesus is God. He is Deity. He stands alone. He is above all. Nothing exists without Him. There is none else. His Name is exalted. It is above every other name. No man, no woman could ever take His place although many have tried.
Many have allowed the traditions of man to take God’s place. God has called each and every one of us. His message is clear. Nothing has ever been hid to an open heart. I have opened my heart to Him. God has cut deep into my heart. God has shone me His heart. It is full of grace and mercy. His words to us in His final breaths…”Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”—we don‘t know until we allow God to search our hearts. God cleanses us from all our iniquity. God’s forgiveness is to us—is total forgiveness, a blank check, paid in full with His own blood—not religion, not tradition.
Let us come and pray with an open heart—ready to be cut by the One who has been following each and every one of us. Let Him be our one and only true God. This is my Jesus. Look to Him. Why did He come?--His eternal purpose. What did He want us to know?—The answers are in His book. What you do is up to you, but my prayer is this: Lord, change me. Lord, have me. My Jesus, take me—Father, You alone are worthy of all praise.

The Great American Fast takes place each year on the second weekend of September.
The story deals with the crumbling relationship between a couple, perhaps husband and wife. The hopes of early life have dwindled into the past and leaves in its place loneliness and regret.
