~ Psalm 1 ~ Spiritual Journey From The Beginning To The End Of The Psalm ~

~ Psalm 1 ~ Spiritual Journey From the Beginning to End Through The Psalm ~

In the center of the Bible you will discover the wonderful illustrious Book of The Psalm! It is a marvelous collection of spiritual songs, hymns, prayers, heartfelt expressions, sympathy, compassion and wisdom for all of humanity! Herein is a collective, dynamic, reflective, deep compelling expression of the inner intimate thoughts of many! The often experienced transparency is emotional, illuminating and enlightening! The myriad of beautiful Psalmists wonderfully and often poetically share their anxieties, confessions, weaknesses, strengths doubts, fears and most important Love for the Lord!

Worship is a sacred veneration! It is so very important and should be honestly expressed as we commune sincerely, transparently and earnestly with the Lord! It is through worship, adoration, adulation and praise we are able to develop a deeper meaningful genuine intimate relationship with the Lord that is spiritually fulfilling. Our body is a Temple! We invite the Lord to fill us with the presence of His Holy Spirit as our hearts and minds are centered on Him! We offer ourselves up to Him and momentarily we become a living sanctuary of PRAISE!

The plethora of Psalmists often quite vociferously cry out in, anger despair and agony as well as comparable crescenduous joy, ecstasy, elation, jubilation and heartfelt joyous Celebrations! It is here in the Psalm one can come to find comfort and consolation to encourage us all as we journey through these definite last days. They begin at Creation and go on … Here showcased is the Power of our Sovereign Lord and a wealth of wisdom assuring us of His eternal love for us and brilliant forthcoming plan of Salvation through Jesus Christ! Here we are able to find strength and encouragement to Confess, Praise, Worship and Adore our Lord. They are for All to enjoy! “Whosoever will let him come!” To God Be the Glory!

The Psalm includes a diverse cast of ingenuous dramatists! Here are the extraordinary authors! David wrote 73, Asaph wrote 12, the Sons of Korah wrote 9, Heman along with the sons of Korah wrote 1, Solomon wrote 2, Ethan and Moses wrote 1 and there are 51 that are considered Anonymous! They were written and complied somewhere between the times of Moses up until the postexilic times of the Babylonian captivity.

A little insight shared by Pastor Dianna Brevan of Jesus Is Lord Fellowship in Iverness Florida: "The name for Psalms in the Hebrew Bible is “Tehillim” which means “praise.” Our English word “psalms” comes from the Greek word “psalmoi” which originally meant a song or poem sung with instrumental accompaniment. By New Testament times, however, the word simply meant to “sing a hymn, to celebrate the praises of God in song."

The Psalm is the largest book in the Bible. It is inclusive of a set of (5) five books they were the temple hymnbook and the devotional guide for the Jewish people. The Greek Septuagint terms it “Psalmoi” meaning poems accompanied by music! The Latin title “Liber Psalmorum” meaning Book of Psalms.

Book 1 PSALM 1 – 41, Book 2 PSALM 42-72, Book 3, PSALM 73 – 89, Book 4 PSALM 90 – 106 & Book 5 107 – 150. Here within these magnificent Psalms are mega spiritual themes. Praise, God’s Power, Forgiveness, Thoughtfulness and Trust are continually discussed throughout. When you want comfort and in need to spend some intimate time with the Lord look no further. Here the melody in your heart will be revived, and ignited to pray, your FAITH renewed, Hope ignited as you are encouraged to look onward and upward to our Sovereign Lord!

One must invite request and evoke the presence of God's Holy Spirit along throughout this journey! The Word of God is like no other. It is powerful & "ALIVE!" It is our spiritual eyes that are needed to enjoy the benefits of this journey! The spiritual life that comes forth from within the Psalm is able to keep you enlightened, focused upon the narrow road that leads to spiritual discernment! The Word of God is like no other! It is Spiritual Food for our souls! Therefore to glean the intended understanding we must solicit His Holy Spirit to continuously open our spiritual eyes over and over again to unmask the scrumptious spiritual food that awaits us! Each day the desire to grow closer to the Lord will increase as you fervently study, meditate upon, embrace, implement and apply the indescribable godly astute wisdom!

There is always “HOPE!” in the LORD! It is important to know at some point the world as we know it will crumble! No need to be fearful. Those of us who accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior have an eternal home with Him that goes on beyond life on this side of Heaven! We can be confident as we put our Trust in the only Omnipotent Father and Lord! Do not put your hope in what is temporal but build you life and hope on Jesus Christ who is the solid Rock! This is why we pray; “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it in Heaven! ” God is able! “Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship GOD acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12. Yes indeed again it merits repeating,The WORD of GOD is alive, powerful and TRUE!

Through, Jesus, therefore let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of PRAISE - the fruit of our lips that confess His Name. And do not forget to do GOOD and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13!

I have only highlighted and commented on some of the verses. There is an endless wealth of spiritual wisdom awaiting you. I assure you you will not be disappointed as you read them! Therefore, I encourage you to personally read each Psalm in its entirety for yourself to further grasp the plethora of the mind expanding, rich spiritual wisdom that each has to offer… “Let everything that has breathe PRAISE the LORD!”

Book of Praise Lesson Highlights

~ PSALM 1 ~

Two Ways of Life Contrasted

Theme: Life's two roads. The life of the faithful person is contrasted with the life of a faithless person.

This intriguing 1st Psalm is the “Prescription” by which one can be truly Spiritually Blessed in every way!

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”

It is important to know who God is! The world beckons us to travel the wide road that leads to destruction. This is the contrary path to the Narrow road that leads to the Lord! Here we are encouraged to extol and obey God above all else! Those who are around us, friends, family, and coworkers associates are able to influence us to some degree. Their well meant intentions and sometimes seemingly wise advice is often sought after. But is it godly advice they offer?

When we spend time with those that mock God who are often non believers it should be to win them over to Jesus Christ. It is evident that we must live and work among those who do not believe. But we should influence them rather than them influencing us… The spiritual warfare can at times be quite subtle. It often seeks to get you to lay aside what God has to say and embrace the world’s liberal thinking! We have much Freedom & Liberty in the Lord! However, there are some issues that God is quite clear on! When we or others become indifferent to God’s view we mock Him… This can actually lead to a stronghold in your life. Here in this verse we are warned as to who we should listen to? True friends do not encourage us to compromise our godly values. True friends are honest with you!

...Even when things are not going well… When we diligently obey God we are truly blessed.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night.” There is power in the Word of the Lord! It is our Spiritual Food to energize us and empower us to live victoriously for Him! This does not mean that things will always go our way; quite the contrary! It means that when we are meditating on His Word we have our attention focused in the right direction. We are not in denial but in a “Tranquil state of Trust!” Here we know and realize that the Lord has everything under His control! As we focus on His Word at the same time we are entrusting to Him whatever is going on about us. We are shifting our burden to HIM! When we find ourselves shifting away we must redirect our attention to HIM! It is in His Word we find Grace, Joy, Peace and direction for the journey! His Word becomes for each of us “A Lamp to my feet and a Light for my path.” Psalm 119.

The Word of God is so powerful! Jesus birth, sinless life, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection mean something! It is here we learn that He has ALL POWER over the flesh. We were created for “HIS GLORY!” By Him and for HIM! As we look to Him we realize that life goes so much deeper than what we see. It is important to begin to live before “An audience of One!” Meaning we live to please GOD above all else! He is everywhere we are! God has a plan for the lives of those who seek HIM first above all else. "He is like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper!"

We are living in interesting times and there are many choices readily at our disposal; however if you want a favorable outcome it is always wise to first seek what the Lord has to say! So often we want to “do our own thing” and then expect God to work it out. He is not a genie… God tells us not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly… Discernment is important!

As we are obedient to the Lord the Fruit of His Spirit should become increasingly evident in our daily lives! We should begin to embrace His way realizing that life goes on through eternity! Momentarily for a season when there is much going on about us we must cling to Him and meditate on His WORD! We must learn to overcome evil with GOOD! This way we can rest knowing that it is not always how things appear! “Man looks on the outside appearance, but GOD looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16. His Word purifies and washes our hearts… Regular spiritual baths in His Word are recommended! You can then have His inner Peace that surpasses the understanding of man. In the Lord we can always find encouragement because we know that the wicked will perish and cease from troubling... In the meantime we are “Not to be Conformed to this world, but Transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12. God is Faithful and continually watches over us! PRAISE GOD!

This Psalm concludes saying: “For the Lord watches over the way of the Righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

David dealt with so many emotions that we do, that I do. I notice that as he leaned on God he got brave, wise. He left his fear and began to love. Anyone that reads Psalms will learn how to lean on God and to love God. Awesome sister.

DeBorrah,

May God bless all readers as we journey with you through the Book of Psalm for indeed it offers us light for our feet and a light for our Christian path.

“It is important to know who God is! But is it godly advice they offer?” AMEN, AMEN! PRAISE HIM!

I rejoice in the Psalmist teaching that children of God do not permit him or herself to tarry in the presence or under the influence of the evil. Instead, we find joy in meditating day and night on the Word of God where we find power to resist and an increased ability to discern His TRUTH.

A great beginning sister in Christ, to what I anticipate is going to be a marvelously spirit filled journey of growth and spiritual development. All glory to God!!

Love, peace and joy in Him who is the Light of the world!

Forever His,

I liked the fact that you mentioned the variety of emotions experienced by the Psalmists. They were just people like us with human frailties. That makes the grace of God that much more impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Well, now we know we have at least 149 more hubs of yours to look forward too! :)

I love the Septuagint's take on the psalms, "poems accompanied by music." They truly are poetry, but songs designed for the heart. They hit us at the core of our being. 1:1 tells us right away that we are going to have to walk sometimes (many times) in life outside the direction of the world. I love to read His Word - I love to meditate and take delight in it. We can't discern if we don't take time to see all sides of an issue, a problem. Patience gives us reflection, knowledge, a better awareness of things - and time and hope to let the Lord intervene and guide, light the path for our feet. Peace.

Nobody, The Psalms are quite inspiring! David allows himself to be pretty transparent...Because of this we can benefit from the plethora of emotions shared... Rev Lady, Thank you! I pray that this is beneficial to all… The Lord’s Word is so precious and there is a wealth of spiritual wisdom to experience and enhance our spiritual growth. The Psalm is marvelous! As you stated: “much Light for our path.” Praise God!

Praise & Worship is so very important! So much so the Lord allowed these (150) one hundred fifty songs to be centered in HIS Holy Scriptures! That in itself speaks volumes. In this Psalm we learn the significant value of meditating on His Word! It is being rooted and grounded in His Word that helps us to become dedicated and steadfast! As you say; “…Instead, we find joy in meditating day and night on the Word of God where we find power to resist and an increased ability to discern His TRUTH.” Amen! & AMEN! One must continually discipline themselves to focus on the Lord. This helps you to put life and situations in their proper perspective and become increasingly aware of what is going on about you; yet respond to it in a way that pleases the Lord and whatever His purpose is for your life. Thank God for HIS Holy Spirit!

It truly is a delight KNOWING that Jesus Christ truly is the Light of the World! It only takes a little light to dispel the darkness. I am thankful that the Lord allows His Light to shine through you brightly… Thank you as always to share your insightful and inspiring commentary God Bless You! GOD alone is AWESOME! He is worthy to be praised! To GOD Be The GLORY!

In HIS Love, Grace, Joy, Peace & Blessings!
