Judas Iscariot a hero or a bad guy?

Is Judas Iscariot a hero or a bad guy?

I read a hub by a Christian friend on hub pages. The hub claimed that Judas is a hero because he made the death of Jesus possible. That is Judas made salvation possible by betraying Jesus. It is recorded that Satan entered Judas which means Satan tempted him and made him betray his master. Some Christians may not agree that Judas is a hero so they can claim that he is a bad guy.

There are various conflicting answers to the, who tempted Satan? But it seems we can get somewhere by using the case of Judas. The part Judas played confirmed that he was used to achieve a predestined event. Is it not possible that Satan was also used to achieve a predestined event? Secondly, those that call Judas a hero should also call Satan a hero because without Satan, Judas would not have betrayed Jesus. Do they want to deny the part Satan played in the salvation theory?

It was clearly recorded that Satan entered Judas before he set out to betray his master. The same people that call Judas a hero said that he is now in heaven because he repented after his action but Luke 22:22 said “woe to that man by whom he is betrayed.” Well it will be wrong for anyone to claim with absolute certainty that Judas is not in heaven or is in hell but at least we can say that he did what he was made to do.

Do we blame Judas for doing his job well or do we condemn him for doing what he was positioned to do?

This issue will take us to another hub “how did Jesus save the world when he could not save one man?”

Judas made it possible for the prophecies to be fulfilled, because he fit the bill. He used to be with Jesus, he fed on Jesus’ bread, but he became a thief, and a betrayer when Satan entered into him, and then yes he made it possible for Jesus to be captured.

He was paid for this—thirty pieces of silver—to be a hit man. A hit man was needed to lead the mob and the arresting officers to Jesus. That was the man called Judas, one of the twelve. He was up front and as he approached Jesus to kiss him Jesus said to him:

“Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?” (Luke 22:47-48)

I would hardly label Judas a hero, Jesus didn’t. Yes, he admitted that Judas actions were prophetic when he said:

“Just as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been finer for that man if he had not been born.” (Mark 14:21)

I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. Up one and Useful. I'm now your fan! I am working a series of 5 novels, “Seeds from Heaven” that touches on a lot of the things you mention. One might ask, “What would the Messiah’s message be today if he traveled the Earth during our time?” Book one is now published, “Lean against the Wind."

To Reynold Jay

II hope you are addressing me, and not the others who comment, but anyway thank you for the comment, and I hope you success for your novel. I wish I knew how to go about it, but the process looks formidable. Most of my stuff I post free on HubPages, but I could market it as a book, it just looks like a lot of futile effort.

Again, I wish you the best jghen

Almighty God,and Christ Jesus, knowing each man's past present and future, knew exactly what was going on in Judas.Jesus knew and declared that satan had entered Judas, but we know not what effect this had on Judas's thoughts or actions. It may be that Jesus permitted satan to enter, but forbade him to do or say anything.

Almighty God and Christ Jesus pre-chose and pre-destined Judas to be the one who would fulfil the scripture. Judas simply was fulfilling God's will.

Almighty God and Christ Jesus knowing all, knew that Judas would feel the guilt of his deed. Through the conviction of the Holy Spirit Judas repents handing Jesus over and returns the blood money. This is not something satan would agree to or permit so satan was not influencing Judas. His hanging himself was his grief for sinning.

Christ Jesus forgives all the sins of all the participants who were directly or indirectly involved with his crucifixion as well as forgiving all of the sins of all of man. The only sinner Jesus cannot excuse is satan because to do that, satan would have to be excused for every sin committed by man through satan.

Judas is cleared of his sins and you will find him in heaven standing amongst the eleven other apostles.

Lookseenow, is it that Judas fulfiled the prophecy or he was used to fulfil it? Thanks Jay for your comment. I shall continue to write great hubs so that people can think for themself.

Dave, you are the one I mentioned in the hub that wrote that Judas is a hero. You here agree that he was chosen to do what he did which lead to the death of Jesus then why did you not think that Satan was chosen to do what he is doing today in my hub, "who tempted satan?" and "who said satan is in hell?" which you follow?

Is Gehenna a third place where people can go? Is is made for Judas alone? How did you know he is there?

You should know, you appear to be the expert, but mostly personal opinions with no references

I don't get your comment. What is your reference or you mean its your personal opinion? Do you have any other reference except the bible? Did the bible say that Judas is there? Lookseenow its your question.

I swear to tell the trurh, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God is an oath sworn by a defendant. Someimes he places his hand upon a Bible, because it's recognized as a standard of the highest source. I don't have to prove anything to anybody.

Lookseenow, you talked about using references so nobody will force you to say your source but I know its your believe. People place hand in the bible and other books like koran to swear by it. Even pagans swear by a source. As people start new religions so shall new books come up which can be used to swear and as a true source of reference. I never said you are right or wrong because I do not know where Judas is and I do not think you are sure he is where you said because you did not even say its in bible.

I said he is in Gehenna you said is he the only one there? No, others are there too it's not a literal place, it symbolizes eternal destruction. Jesus refered to Gehenna (Luke 12:4) Jesus used Gehenna as representative of utter destruction resulting from adverse judgment by God, hence with no resurrection to life as a soul being possible. He said:

"Do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

(Mt 10:28)

You said Judas is not in heaven or hell but in Gehenna. Okay, many Christians think he is in heaven or hell so what is the difference between Gehenna and hell? You used Jesus comment to justify your point here but some Christians claim that since he repented before his death he is in heaven. Other call him a hero for what he did to fulfil the prophecy. The main thing is that it is a matter of opinion because nobody is sure where he is or if there is hell or heaven or whatever so it depends on your believe.
