Time to Get Serious: Daily Devotions to Keep You Close to God

C'mon now! Enough of spoon-fed spirituality and Sunday-morning religion! It's time to get serious-to get deep into God's Word and start exploring your most important relationship for yourself.

His Eyes

As you look into the eyes of people in this world what do you see? Do you see the people and the world as God see's it? What does He think as He watches your life day by day?

How does God see His his children?

"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him."

How does God see the world of people who do not know him? "The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent." II Peter 3:19

How about those he created who reject Him and spew profanities in His holy name? Oh how God's heart must grieve.

Is God the spirit working in and through you? Do you see this world as He does? Do you reach out to those in need and to those who don't yet know that He is the great I Am?

Do you bring Him Joy by spending time with Him in the Word and applying His truth to your life? Do you appreciate the unique gifts He has given you and do you use them for His glory? Is He pleased with the ways that you interact with others?

The questions posed are minuscule in comparison to all of the ways we need to inspect our hearts and scrutinize our life. God says that His ways are not our ways. That means that our perspective, apart from God, is not likely to be His way.

God's perspective is what I long to have. I want to see people through His Eyes .. just as He see's them. When God looks at people, his eyes see His creation. He loves people and sacrificed his only son Jesus who died for ALL. "For God SO loved the world that HE gave His one and only son (Jesus) so that whoever believes in Him might be saved." John 3:16

As God's children we need to see people through the heart and the eyes of God. We are personal representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to see people as God does we have to get out eyes off of ourselves. It's so easy to get distracted by life's trials. We become consumed with selfish ambition or worries.

There is a bigger picture and that is God and His plan. This world is not our home .. we are pilgrims on a journey. Our time down here .. on this Earth Place .. is soooo temporary in comparison to eternity. It is our preparation time .. a getting ready time, if you will! Getting ready to enter our Heavenly Abode.

As we grow in our Christian Faith there are many characteristics about our 'old selves' that will pass away. God changes us. He is the potter who works on the clay (His Children) to create a beautiful masterpiece fit for Heaven. He uses many different methods to chip away at arrogance, pride, selfishness, rude behavior and anything else in our lives that screams out ... ME FIRST!

His Eyes

Every day we are hit by distractions. We have a choice, focus on our purpose or get side-tracked just trying to keep up with the interruptions. Prioritizing our day will help us keep our focus. When distractions bombard us we need to reign in our attention.

There are so many distraction down here. So many things we can find to worry about in life, especially in these days. Do you have children? Have you noticed the decline in moral standards?

Do you worry about your children growing up without the values and standards you grew up with? When I was a child I could go for a walk outside, at nigh t, and no one would worry about me because I was safe! Today we can't even let a child walk alone in broad daylight. I mournfully grieve and wonder ..."What has become of our world?"

Living life with worry seems to be the norm for most people. Our society is changing faster than the blink of an eye. Just go to the forums on our beloved Hubpages site to witness the most blatant arrogance and disregard for individuality. The forums are NOT a safe place. You are not respected when you voice your own individual views and opinions on the forums .... no, not at all. You will be attacked quickly if you mention the name of God or Jesus.

The economy is downright scary ... and to make it worse ... I live in Michigan which is the State listed with the highest rate of unemployment .... I am, right now, being hit with these statistics in a very personal way!

I am tempted to worry or try to fix it all. But I have come to the place that I see it is WAY beyond my control. I know that and I also know that worry gets me nowhere but SICK both physically and emotionally.

God is the lover of my soul. Whatever is going on down here .. He has a place prepared for me. He also has left me His word to teach me how to live. Matthew 6:34 says "Take no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow will take thought for itself." God says I am not meant to worry about tomorrow ... only to live life one day at a time. I wasn't meant to carry pain it is too BIG for me. I have been doing that for too many years now and have just recently been exhorted by the Lord God to STOP IT! It is wrong for me to try to carry my own pain or to carry the pain of others' (I've been really good at that too) ... God says to all who will listen .... "Come unto me all you who are weak and heavy laden, and I (Jesus) will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

God Uses Hub Friends

I would never have guessed that God would use Hubpages to capture my attention and help me see the world through His eyes. Have you noticed how many gifted writers there are here on the hubs? God uses Hub Friends!

As I have spent time reading through many hubs I have observed various aspects of Jesus character coming through the writers words. God uses the hubs to show me who He is and How He works. He reaches out to me through many hubpages showing me people who are lovers of GOD and those who are warriors and unafraid to face the assaults of the enemy.

I would like to tell you about some of my favorite hubbers and share some of the ways they have touched my life and lived Jesus before me. I have been blessed by so many of you and I am sure I will miss some. There are many new hubbers that I am just getting to know but feel the bud of friendship growing.

Gentle, merciful and kind Skye2day displays strength and courage with a HUGE love for the living God. This dear lady has sent chills of love sweeping through me right down to my toes.

Unchained Grace's gentle and strong voice has spoken into my life more than once .. look to God, ask and you will receive. His humor is endless and his wit is unstoppable .. he is intelligent and creative and a God-thinker for sure. He has given up his own personal agenda to serve the Living God and he is not sorry .. there is NO turning back for this man. HIS heart pounds with a passion to find housing and provisions for every living VET ... for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice ... their lives for our protections. BLESS Unchained Grace, God Bless every Vet .. we owe our very lives to you!

Coffee Snob (honey I wish snob wasn't in your name ... you are SO not a snob) lol. Carol is an intellectual who has a tender heart of compassion. She, like Unchained Grace has also served her Country and encouraged many a soldier along the way. Her love pours out to anyone blessed to know her.

MickyDee is that guy on the go. He whizzes up to my hubs, drops a hilarious message and zooms on to the next hub. MickyDee is a kind soul whom I've come to respect. He is not caught up in this material world .. his head is geared toward justice and he'll go toe to toe with you if need be. He's a little rough around the edges .. he'll tell ya that himself .. sometimes his hubs are a little coarse for the lady in me .. but most times I am charmed, touched, or splitting with laughter by his colorful writing.

50Caliber... Talk about NOT being caught up with materialism - Caiber is the man! He lives in the wilderness .. he and his dogs play in the sandbox under a sycamore tree. They spend their days in a peaceful setting BUT his mind is keen and ready for action. He knows and loves God and His word and he's not afraid to say so.. He's blessed me helped my perspective more than a few times.

Urlikegrace is a lady if there ever was one. Though trouble has hit her hard .. she has allowed the refiners fire to purify her. Kindness exudes from her and she does not hold back her affection. I am taken by this lady and her wisdom and insight. She has recently influenced my perspective in some of my writings.

Revlady knows her God and comes along many hubbers cheering us along on our journey. She has so tenderly urged me forward to share what God has spoken. I know Revlady has a very busy life and ministry, yet she takes time to grace many of our pages with truth and love. Her sweet parting words are always "Forever His."

MFB III, who can grasp the true depth and beauty to be found in this man's artistry with words? The emotions he has stirred within me have run the gamet. His God given gift is unmistakable. His hubs are another place where my lady's heart sometimes fears to tread. He is graphic and real .. sometimes I must say politely, excuse me MFB, this ones not for me. :-) But most the times, his love draws me in as I sink into HIS heart which is full of mercy, compassion and BIG LOVE.

breakfastpop keeps me up on the latest news in the most entertaining way imaginable. She prepares the most luxurious breakfasts. Then she proceeds to announce the latest Pop-Awards ... it is not always settling to hear but hear we MUST. Afterwards she invites all to the bar for a drink and a conversation. I order a coke and breakfastpop always has it waiting for me.

I can always count on Quill to have a place at the fire for me. Peace reigns on Quill's Hubs. Once he has given a warm hug, and offered a plate full of cookies, he looks deeply into my heart and asks about my life ... After he has listened he proceeds to share the most heartwarming story's about my Father God. He is the type of man I wish my own father could have been to me. I love how he talks about his Mrs. Quill too ... they are the sweetest couple!

Faye is a strong lady who loves God and leaves footprints of encouragement all across the hubpages. She accepts people right where they are ... it's okay with her that a hubber isn't perfect or even close to it. All are welcomed to Faye's Hubs.

AnnAnnonymousis a sweetheart. She is wisdom, wit, encouragement with a BIG heart that reaches out from the screen. Ann told me about the perfect song for one of my hubs, The Beautiful Woman. It was like the icing on the cake ... thank you Ann ... your gift of this song is treasured.

All of these Hubbers have, in their individually unique way, contributed to my growth as a writer and as believer. Thank you my hubber friends!

Mixing up the Hubbers

So mix up the hubbers and what do I get?

  • Courage ... Jesus is Lord
  • Focus ... It's not about me .. it's about Jesus
  • Trust ... He is in Control ... Don't trust in Material Things
  • Support ... Cheer others' along in their journey
  • Stretched ... To think outside the Box
  • Mercy ... To see people through God's Eyes
  • Acceptance ... Love people right where they are .. no conditions
  • Encouragement... Always Bless Others with authentic Encouragement
  • Kindness ... Take the time to show kindness and respect to others
  • Words .... The writer holds power. Use that power to build into peoples lives - touch them.
  • Truth and Love ... Truth without love is harsh. Love without truth is meaningless

A Hubbers Prayer

Lord, thank you for Hubpages and for the very gifted and caring people I have found here. Thank you for the beautiful word pictures I find here each day. Bless my hub friends as they have blessed me. May we bring glory to you Lord in all that we do and say.

Teach us to respect each other Lord. We are ALL at different places in our journey here on this earthplace. There are Hubbers who don't know you (I didn't know you at one time), some Hubbers do believe in you but are also angry at you. There are new Christians .. may we come alongside them and cheer them on. We don't know what another Hubber has been through ... grant us patience and love when we don't understand them.

Let me see this world dearly Lord, as though I were looking through your eyes. Keep me focused on you and help me to use my pen and mouth to communicate truth sprinkled with tons of love.

To All My Hubber Friends

Very inspiring hub! It is true there are a bunch of distractions in this world which may interfere with our main task, which involves the search of the kingdom of God while we are on Earth. This basic task should become one of the main pursuits for every human being.

The very task of searching for the kingdom of God is one of the divine misteries, which can only be understood by those who really engage at the important task of searching for true love.

Voted up and useful!

wayseeker, I am so happy to have found you, a writing teacher, here on the hubs. Happier to learn that you are a brother in Christ.

I will look forward to reading your Jesus centered writing. Thank you for your kind comments and encouragement.

God Bless YOU!

You are a woman of tremendous passion for the Lord. It is a beautiful thing to see. I stopped over at your profile to see what you have put up here on Hubpages only to discover a fellow Disciple of our Lord Jesus. I hope to spend some more time here in the near future reading through your work.

I hope to do a wide range of Jesus-centered writing myself in the near future, and I now have a place to go to look at some of the work of others--both you and a number of those you mentioned in this hub.

May the Lord bless you and your work here and everywhere.

My best to you,

skye, dear sista, aweeeeeeeeeeee .. I cried through most of your comment. You are an encourager and a comforter .. and I needed that today! :0)

I too, know in my spirit, God IS shining his favor in the darkest of days. I can't see with my physical eyes .. but my spiritual eyes are set on him ... and I know HE never fails. I am touched that you prayed for my husband and me .. really touched deeply .. thank YOU!

You said, "The enemy does not have to go for the lost but the saved." Oh skye .. I could tell you stories .. Though satan attacks .. Greater is HE that is in US than he that is in the World.

You are right skye, nothing is too large for our God! I can't tell you how many times you have made me smile. You are a gift from God and I treasure your friendship!

I feel that warm hug! :0)

Love you TOO, Sista

Makenzie, I have big elephant tears. You my love are a gem from the heavens. I am filled with gratitude for hubs and the host of beautiful friends God has put on my path. Just to think one day we will all see each other, and as Michael sings a 'friend for a lifetime'. God had blessed you with many gifts, one is writing with the Love of Jesus flowing in your words with grace and sweet tenderness. You will know them by their fruits 'sista'. I love the 'sista' thing you left the other day in a comment.

I know in my Spirit Christ is going to shine favor on your situation. It is in my Spirit, big time to tell you' Stand firm sweet one, stay on top of the rock. It is not always easy but he has you covered. I have lifted you in prayer and your husband as well

Thank you for mentioning me in this heartfelt hub of love. I am honored. I believe I was to land on hub pages as you were to. There are no mistakes in Gods world. Times are scary but the good news is this. Christ says he will lift his kids. He will take care of our needs and our hearts desire. It is in our weakness we are straightened though Christ. Have you noticed ones that are into worldy are seemingly OK? Are they really? I feel for them because their hearts do not know the truth. It is obvious in the 'world' the time is getting closer not farther until Jesus returns. Scripture is following its course. The enemy does not have to go for the lost but the saved. The forums ARE a scary place. I did go a few times and was shocked at the 'war' against our Savior a few times. I left a love God message then left.

My sista God has a plan. He is on the throne. Nothing is to large for our God. You have a way of making the sun shine in the dark corners. That is huge. God is going to use you in a mighty way. Like you said he is preparing the clay for a masterpiece. Hes done a precious job so far and it will just get more majestic. You are so loved by many. OK the tears are streaming down my jawbone. Tears of joy. Sending a warm hug. Receive it girlfriend. I love ya sista.

MFB, I agree present times are pain-filled and most people never look up to see the One who loves them more than any other person is capable.

Good thing God's love is unconditional .. not dependant upon us .. afterall HE created us just the way we are .. and afterwards HE said .. IT IS VERY GOOD!

I am so happy to endorse and promote and extol MFB III's writings .. You SO inspire me!

Mekenzie, greetings from the desert playground! You are centered well on the folks here on the pages. I've been hanging around and reading, meeting people here for a while and for the most part we are in great company, and receive so many views that make us think about how diversity is pretty awesome. We get new angles of sometimes stagnant thought on topics we might otherwise let drift out of our lives. I appreciate the honorable mention, I'm not fast at getting to reading things as for every person who follows I follow back. I have gained much here and from you as well. I look forward to a long venture here, and more writings from you! Much Love and Peace.

To see the world through the eyes of God might be a very painful thing to experience in this present time. Most of the eyes below fail to look up and recognize that he is watching. And there is so much love in those eyes, vast universes full of compassion for all who live here, not just specific religious groups, or fanantical right and left wingers. God skin color is multi- black, brown, yellow, red and white, he will make that perfectly clear to many who will be confounded, or perhaps eternally disappointed when he comes back to collect all of those who understood best this side of him, There is no hate in heaven, no apathy for others, no room for greed and special interest.

Thanks so much for your endorsement of MFB III Mekeknzie..

sometimes I don't even know who he is, but I do occupy his fleshy space. You are sharing the joy of specific hubbers with others, and that is a noble unselfish thing to do and I applaud you. Let's hope it gets contagious and we find a whole lot of new hubs that come highly recommeded by some folks we never knew exiasired on here. Thanks again ever so much~~~MFB III

Raymond, I know you are right .. we'd have a real awakening! I also believe that as we draw near to God and seek HIM alone .. He opens our eyes and the Holy Spirit lets us see the World as He does. "Draw Near to God and He will Draw Near to YOU!"

A world of men and women who don't know HIM but a world for which He died. We are personal representatives of the Living God, in a very dark world. Thanks for your comment!

Mekenzie my sister, after reading through this remarkable Hub praising Hubbers, and bring to the fore-ground just how vast this community has become what with the variety of its writers as well as the topics discussed, it totally amazes me, I am awestruck. The various traits of Hubbers is humbling. The Hubber's Prayer speaks volumes about who we are in our individual walks wth Our Lord, and the Song, ahhhh girl, that song speaks volumes I hope from everyones hearts, I know it does for mine.

The one thing that jumped off the page, although it wasn't probably really meant to do so is that even though we may be physically adult mortals, we are still spiritual beings, and in the eyes of God, children, and sometimes we act like it too. For this personally I'm so sorry, God please forgive me, for my chldish ways.

Mekenzie my Hub Sister, I love you for this hub, if possible even more than ever before, for pointing out things in me that need addressing. Thank you my sister.

Lovingly, God Bless,

Brother Dave.

Dearest Mekenzie! When I started reading your hub, maybe only two sentences in and I said a quick prayer. "Thank you God, for Mekenzie." And I knew that as I continued on I would be supremely blessed by your wisdom and deep understanding and love for God and His people. And so I read on and was not disappointed. You touched my heart today right where it needed touched. And then when I saw my name I thought God I don't deserve a Hubfriend like this, but thank You so much for being so gracious to allow such a gracious person in my life! Your ending prayer, Mekenzie, has become something I want to pray too! Thank you so much and God bless you in your walk with Him as you reach out and touch lives...for I see you as someone who does indeed look through God's eyes!

The generosity of your acknowledgement of hubbers who have allowed the spirit of God to use them according to His will, and in so doing, contributed in some way to your personal growth, is touching and overwhelms my spirit. Surely, the feeling is reciprocal. I raise my voice and heart in thanksgiving and praise to our most high God, for without Him, we could do nothing.

God has indeed blessed us through this venue where we join with other members of the body of Christ in reaching out to all and directing unbelief to the path that leads to salvation.

Thank you for your kindness MeKenzie. It means a lot to me.
