5 of Pentacles being out in the cold

The Tarot card, the 5 of pentacles, depicts a person(s) outside in the cold. This card usually refers to areas that represent our living conditions and our state of mind. This ranges from poverty, lack of material goods, homelessness and any other form that our and our family basic needs are not able to be met. As a tarot reader of 40+ years, it was not unusual for me to see this card appear for people of financial means. You would be surprised to see how people of means can feel their needs aren’t being met. The 5 of pentacles represents an absence of a basic need. It does not only signify monetary needs, but also needs of the heart.

In taking a closer look at this card, we will see it as a minor branch off of the Major Arcana, ‘The Hierophant’, which I have always found to be interesting. The Hierophant deals with the social values of a given community, society or religious belief. When viewed from this perspective, we become introduced to the ‘Doubting Thomas’. Our belief system is taken from the social order we follow. A deeply spiritual person, for instance, may find it to be a sin to have surplus of money. If they did, their chance to go to heaven could be lessen. A person brought up in poverty might consider those with massive amount of money as evil in some form. They would not wish to earn money for this would reflect back at them as being evil. As you can see, there are many deep subconscious beliefs that have become attached to people, who are not even aware of it. In my opinion there is as much of a prejudice towards those with mega bucks, as there is a prejudice for race, religion or nationality. These are all equal in my mind, yet disliking the super- rich is encouraged, especially in the present time. The Tarot 5 of pentacles would be a perfect card for the state of our world right now, as well as the other suits of the 5, plus the Hierophant.

Success or Failure

Challenges: Fear of Success or Failure

In tarot, the number 5 is about challenges. It reveals the victim mandate. It embraces the theme that others are responsible for the condition of my life. It surrounds us with emotions that heighten our disbelief in our own abilities. The 5 suit, in tarot, leads us to the next number, which will be showing up, in our life. 6 is where a choice is inevitable. Even not making a decision is still considered a choice, so no one is immune from this activity.

The 5 of pentacles will reveal to us our own crazy thinking. How often have we expressed, we were born under a bad sign, or we always have bad luck? Do you believe the world is conspiring against you? This belief entangles us, with the victim role, which leads to resentment. The ‘Doubting Thomas’ in the 5 of pentacles, will point his/her finger outwards, as the reason for their misfortunes, yet what is needed is, for them to face their own ‘Doubting Thomas’ .

How is your Doubting Thomas affecting your life? In what area of your life is the 5 of pentacles running havoc? Have there been opportunities to increase you lot in life, but you turned them down? What were your reasons behind this? Are you in the camp of excuses or in the camp of exploration? When offered an opportunity, what is the first sentence out of your mouth? This will clue you into how your mind works, and which camp you have joined. The camp of excuses is tied to your fear of success or failure.

The 5 of pentacles means depletion of energy going outwards into the world. Our energy and aura is filled with self-doubt, which we cling desperately. We utilized every excuse given to our predicament. I won't get hired. My boss hates mes. All men/women will break your heart. When the 5 of pentacles enters a reading, I typically ask what is keeping you out in the cold. Is it our economic environment? Is it because you lost your job? A common answer is, Nobody will give me a break.

Manifesting Dreams

5 of Pentacles and Manifestation

The 5 of pentacles is about the lack of energy to manifest your needs. It does not care where the needs rests in your life. It just is concerned with your inability to drum up enough energy to manifest a creation.

To discover where this lack stems from, you will need to search your past, and ask yourselves several questions. Who took your energy away? What belief do you possess that tells you that you can't. Where did this originate? Find those answers, and you will discover where your emotions are tied. The emotion is the ‘Doubting Thomas. Your world is made up of your emotions and perceptions. As stated in the beginning of this Hub, I have read tarot for people of financial means and this card plays havoc with them. It is equal to the emotional output as those who have no resources or very little. The reality is not money, but your perspective. As long as rich people are sinful, you will remain without. You would not jeopardize yourself to obtain wealth, at the cost of going to hell. As long as you hold on to your culture beliefs given to you, by misinformed religious people, family and the society that are part of your clan, your outcome will remain the same. The delusions arise through your pattern of judgment.

The 5 of pentacle is revealing you have a challenge now. It is a road block. You will need to use creative action to move through this block. The block is where you have wasted your energy, in the past. It is in your thoughts and actions. Something depleted you, and now you need to figure it out. Soon you will arrive at the 6 of pentacles, and there will be a choice given to you. This choice is in energy exchange. If you are trying to exchange depleted energy, you cannot fathom to acquire more. What of value do you have within yourself that can be used as a positive energy? To get to this point, you will need to discover those areas that described you as worthless. When you do discover them, correct these areas. In fixing our ‘Doubting Thomas’, we become energized. Energy will begin to flow through us, which attracts new better experiences. Through this, we become accountable for our actions. We switched from the camp of excuses to the camp of exploration.

Flying Free

Exploration conquers Excuses

The moment we take accountability for our choices, we begin the path of exploring. We have arrived, at the suit of 6, in Tarot, and decided to hold ourselves accountable. Areas of lack in our life, have drawn a new perspective. They aren't covered with excuses any more. We know an excuse is a choice to scream victim Victim is not an arena we play. We are willing to conquer our fear, be it success or failure, through exploring new ideas and methods.

If you ended up with the 5 of Pentacles in your reading today, you have just received a blessing. It is time for you to explore those chains that have bind you throughout your life. Soon, you will have a choice to be free, or not.
