Love is ....
The Bible teaches us the best about any kind of love
What real love is:
Song 8: 6-7
"Seal me in your heart with permanent betrothal, for love is as strong as death and jealousy is as cruel as Sheol. It flashes fire, the very fire of Jehovah. Many waters cannot quench the flame of love , neither can the floods drown it. If a man tried to buy it with everything he owned, he couldn't do it"
1 Cor 13:13
"There are three things that remain - faith, hope and love - and the greatest of these is love."
1 John 2:7-8
"Dear brothers I am writing out a new rule to obey, for it is an old one you have always had, right from the start. You have heard it all before. Yet it is always new, and works for you just as it did for Christ; and as we obey this commandment, to love one another, the darkness in our lives disappears and the new light of life in Christ shines in."
1 John 3:16
"We know what real love is from Christ's example in dying for us. And so we also ought to lay down our lives for our Christian brothers."
Relationships and friendships:
1 Cor. 13:4-7
"Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him and always stand your ground in defending him."
What it means to love those who hate you:
Matt. 5: 38 - 42
"The law of Moses says, 'If a man gouges out another's eye, he must pay with his own eye. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the one who did it: ' Don't resist violence! If ou are slapped on one cheek, turn the other too. If you are ordered to court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat too. If the military demand that you carry their gear for a mile, carry it two. Give those who ask, and don't turn away from those who want to borrow."
Matt 5: 43 - 48
"There is a saying, 'Love your friends and hate your enemies.' But I say: Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way you will be acting as true sons of your Father in heaven. For he gives you his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and sends rain on the unjust too. If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even scoundrels do that much. If you are friendly only to your friends, how are you different from anyone els? Even the heathen do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."
Matt 10:29 - 31
"Not one sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't you worry! You are more valuable to Him than many sparrows."
Rom 8: 35 - 37
"Who then can ever keep Christ's love from us? When we have trouble or calamity, when we are hunted down or destroyed, it is because He doesn't love us anymore? And if we are hungry or penniless or in danger or threatened with death at every moment of the day - we are like sheep awaiting slaughter; but despite all this, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us. For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't and life can't. The angels won't and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God's love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are - high above the sky or in the deepest ocean - nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us."
