Maxims For Our Children: A Look at The Teachings of Jesus, The Christ

This is a continuation of the Sermon on The Mount. The Wise One continues to teach his two children.

Kanya: (reading). “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” St. Matthew, 5:8.

Wise one: “My children, the saints tell us that purity is the lily of all virtues. A pure heart is God’s very life-breath, and opens the door to God’s ever-flowing divinity or His Grace. That is why our Lord lays so much emphasis on it. Without inner purity, we cannot reach God. The Christ reminds us here:

‘Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man … for out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts….” Ibid. 15:11, 19.

Wise one: “The great psalmist David knew this so well: ‘Have mercy on me, O God,’ he said. ‘According to Thy loving kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies. Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:1, 2.

‘Purge me with hyssop’ he continues, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow”. Psalm 51:7.

Junior: “I guess he wanted to be free from his wrong-doings, weaknesses and faults, so as to draw him closer to our Lord.”

Wise one: “Yes. My son. I am glad that you have understood.”

Wise one: Junior, sing me a song. You are my favourite singer. You sing so well!”

Junior sings:

“Come, come, my celestial Friend.

Come to me and dance in my heart.

Soothe my sorrows, by pouring

Your Fast-flowing nectar in my Soul.

O my Beloved, do conquer my vale of tears

With Your ever-compassionate smile.”

Wise one: “Marvellous, my son, marvellous. Your singing has stirred my heart and my soul is dancing with glee.”

Kanya: “Shall we continue, daddy?”

Wise one: “Yes, my daughter, go ahead.”

Kanya: (reading) “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” St. Matthew, 5:9

Wise one: “Those who are truly peaceful do not need to speak much, for God speaks in and through them. A city on a hill cannot be hid, and a tree that is well nourished will bear good fruits. So too, the peaceful walk in the world, radiating love, and influence all those that they come in contact with. They are truly the children of God.

‘Let your light so shine before men’ says our Lord, ‘that they may see your good works and glorify your father, which is in heaven.” Ibid 5:16.

Junior: “Thank you, father.”

Wise one: “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Ibid, 5:10

Wise one: “There are many who have made sacrifices for God. Their only crimes were to love and serve God. But they were misunderstood, are being misunderstood and will continue to be misunderstood as long as this world of ours contains darkness. Yet, for these men and women of God, there is no such thing as sacrifice. Their only focus is to lead a godly life; to love God and to do His Will as dictated to them from within. Naturally, God will meet them with open arms.

Kanya: “So their godly road is long and tough, but their reward is great in God’s kingdom.”

Wise one: “Perfectly so, my child. You have understood me very well.”

Kanya: “It is your love and wisdom, daddy, that is making it so clear to us.”

Wise one: “Thank you, my sweet. Thank you. Let us continue with the final one for today.”

Inspirational song

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.” Ibid 5:11.

Wise one: “My children. This is rather like the previous maxim. You read that the multitude followed our Lord and sought His miracles as well as cures for themselves and loved ones. But again, they were the same people who cried out for him to be crucified.” Ibid. 26:22.

“If our Lord was unloved, persecuted and accused falsely, then so too will be many men and women who follow His way. Nevertheless, our Lord asks us to:

‘Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven.” Ibid. 5:12.

“God’s love, has always been, and will continue to be special to us. Let us take a break for today, and finish with an appropriate and very loving quote from our scripture. Here our Lord promises us everything if we believe:

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” St. John, 3:16.

Junior: “Our deepest gratitude, father. Kanya and I look forward to your further teachings and inspiring words tomorrow, if God so wishes. We are hungry. Let us eat.”

Kanya: “Yes, daddy. We love you. Let us eat”.

The greatest teaching left to us by Jesus. You've done a great job of showing us how the Sermon on the Mount lives.

Voted up, useful, and interesting.

Manatita, My Friend, This is most beautiful. I love reading the word of God. In His Word there is such a calming tone, and that is what I really need today so I am extremely happy that you posted this at just the right time for me.

My email was hacked and some stupid message was sent out that I am stranded in the Ukraine and need my friends to send me some large sum of money. They deleted all of my contacts and rerouted all of my mail to go to them. My friends KNOW that I am not in the Ukraine. This has really upset me so your hub came just in time to remind me that God is always with me, and He is always in charge. Thank you …voted up

Also, Billybuc's Pax vobiscum reminded me of my many many years in Catholic school so I will leave you with Dominus vobiscum. Take care, my friend and be blessed always.

I do love how you teach the bible through the words of a father and his children. Thank you. I just had to look up Bill's word.

Peace be with you.

Both you and Bill made me laugh today, Doris.

First of all though, I am sorry to hear about your day's events. I had this problem some years ago and my friend was in fact actually abroad. Somehow the wording did not fit his character, and so I rang and of course he had not sent such letter. Do be careful. Change your password and get a difficult one. You can also get bugs from friends who pick them up accidentally. Stay always like you would do in the spiritual life: alert!

Funny I was thinking of you today, and Nellieanna whom I have written to but not heard. I hope that she is well.

Happy that I was able to help. I bet you did not know that I was so manifold? Much mehta (loving kindness). Peace.

Me, too, Ruby. Doris has also made it worse (smile)

I actually was in the police force for three or so years and did some latin. Did you see my poem Poesia Cantata? I am actually mixing latin and Spanish.

Thanks a million, Ruby. The feeling of peace is mutual, but I'm sure you know this.

Beautiful! I especially like the discourse about persecution for righteousness' sake. Thanks for your simple yet profound commentary on the precious words of Christ!

Thank you.

There is a place in Sri Chinmoy's, The Son, where God says to Christ, 'You are my most favourite Son.'

Well Dee,

You are one of my most favourite friends. Very happy to see you and to read your loving comments.
