My Testimony of How I Became a Christian

Grew Up Religious

I am happy to share my story of how and why I became a Christian. My background is a religious one in that I believed in God when I was a child.

I was raised in a religious home and sometimes I went to church and prayed. I called myself a Christian but I did not know who Jesus actually is or what He has done.

By the time I was 14 all I had learned from going to church and others was that Jesus was a good man and if I did not accept Him I was going to hell.

I did not want to go to hell so at a church service one morning, I said the prayer the people at the church told me to say and I figured I was saved. However I still did not know Jesus or the gospel and I didn't read the Bible. I was totally ignorant of Christianity.

A few years went by in which my family started falling apart. My family was dirt poor and my parents were threatening each other with divorce. With all that happening and other things going on in my life I became very depressed.

My family stopped going to church and at that point I did not want anything to do with God. Whenever I would hear someone talk about Jesus I would get mad because I thought Jesus had not done anything for me. I hated my life.

I became an atheist for about a year or so until I 19 when my parents decided our family would start going to church again. Then soon after I watched a Christian DVD and at the end of the video this guy preached the gospel.

Just as plain as could be, he explained that Jesus was the Son of God who died to save sinners and I understood then that I was a sinner. I have done some terrible things in my life and for the first time I heard and understood the gospel.

I believed right then and there that the Bible was true, all of it. The moment I believed I was filled of so much joy!

Believer In Jesus Christ

That was 4 years ago in September of 2007. I now tell others about Jesus Christ I greatly enjoy my Christian walk even though life is not always as pleasant I would like it to be.

I have lost friends since I became a Christian but I also gained some news ones. I know that by faith in Jesus Christ I am saved and there is no greater gift in the world I wish to have.

It is safe to say one might not truly understand the gospel of Christ until one has their own personal encounter with him and that encounter can happen in many different ways. I love the Lord and will not stop serving him and sharing his love as long as I live.
