New Age: Age of Aquarius

Source

We have recently come into the luck of witnessing the turn over of the new B'akt'un in the Mayan calendar. Many never believed that it represented the end of the world. Some did believe it was the end of what we know, but not on a physical level, but on the level on which our collective human consciousness vibrates along. This can be best explained by the belief that we have now entered into the Age of Aquarius.

Age of Aquarius Song Lyrics

By the 5th Dimension

"When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius! Aquarius!

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Let the sun shine, Let the sun shine in
The sun shine in"

A little Diddy About Astrology

Astrology is one of the oldest sciences there is. That's right - I said sciences.

Of course, by today's definitions, it is no where near a science. Just a tool of divination used by New Age hippies and old mystics - but popular enough for nearly all news papers and magazines to have an astrology section.

A science is a gathering of data based on observed effects. Since the dawn of man, we have looked up into the cosmos and stared at the blinking specs which stare back at us, charting their patterns, and seeing what happens here on earth along side of their motions. For hundreds of thousands of years, we have observed these celestial beings.

This was the birth of astrology.

Often times, we would find patterns in the stars' arrangements, and they would become characters in stories. This was the world's first connect-the-dots, and they were constellations. Many of us know of the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, Orion's Belt, Orion's dog, Sirius, and so on. There were 12 key constellations, which traveled the sky and broke it up into sections. These were the astrological figures we know today in the Western world as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, respectively.

At the time that we "discovered" these figures, they "time stamped" that section of the sky. Throughout time, due to our earth's wobble, they are no longer in the same place as they were at the time we first labeled them. However, they became representations of sections of the sky that we could see from earth. Each of these sections became known as a House.

If you were to imagine that earth had rings like Saturn, and that we could look up into the heavens and see its rings, this would be like seeing the astrological belt. If the rings were divided into 12 distinct sections, each section say with a different color so one could see the difference between one and the next, this would be like how the sky is divided up from our view of earth in terms of astrology.

Over time, astrology became divided into two, the other part being astronomy. Astronomy is the science we know today, while astrology is more of the philosophical observations, and has since been categorized as Metaphysics.

The Earth's Wobble

What the "Ages" mean

Most people are accustomed to the progression of the astrological signs, starting at Aries, then working its way all the way through to Pisces within a year. However, the Ages work a little bit differently.

The Ages are also known as the Procession of the Equinoxes. For the entire cycle of these equinoxes to be completed, it takes a whole 25,920, making each Age about 2,160 years each.

The earth, as we all know, rotates on an metaphorical axis, which tilts. As it makes its way around the sun, creating a year, it spins on this axis, which creates our days and nights. However, this axis has what is called a wobble. The wobble, if we picture the axis extending past the earth a little ways, creates is own circle as it does it's many rotations.

This wobble, which represents our Ages, also moves backwards. Where as normally the order of the astrological signs would go Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, this Procession of the Equinoxes causes the signs to move in reverse, meaning we are just leaving, or are currently in Pisces, going on to, or having just entered Aquarius.

The Last 5000 Years,Before Common Era to Common Era

At approximately 2500 BC (Before Christ) or BCE (Before Common Era), it was the Age of Aries. Aries is a very intense sign, a sing of aggression stubbornness. It is a sign of expansion and leadership. It is a fire sign, and fire is full of energy which can be useful, but when one gets too close to it, they can be burned.

During this Age, many wars broke out, all about the expansion of their empire. China, Rome, Persia, and so on, all were reaching out their tendrils to see just how far they could extend their kingdoms. This lasted until approximately 300 CE (Common Era).

As the Age of Aries faded away and gave in to the Age of Pisces, which represents compassion and devotion. This manifested itself into religion. During this time, we have seen an rise of religious passion, which has erupted in many ways - the Middle East's many wars and battles, the Crusades, and so on.

At Luke 22:10 when Jesus is asked by his disciples where the last Passover will be, Jesus replied: “Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you bearing a pitcher of water... follow him into the house where he entereth in.” This scripture is by far one of the most revealing of all the astrological references. The man bearing a pitcher of water is Aquarius, the water-bearer, who is always pictured as a man pouring out a pitcher of water. He represents the age after Pisces, and when the Sun, “God’s Sun,” leaves the Age of Pisces, “Jesus,” it will go into the House of Aquarius, as Aquarius follows Pisces in the procession of the equinoxes. All Jesus is saying is that after the Age of Pisces will come the Age of Aquarius. ~ Zeitguist The Movie

Pisces is represented by water, and during this time too, we began exploring across the seas and discovering that there was no flat surface to the earth. We sailed across the vast oceans and the Americas were "discovered".

(Much more information about the Age of Pisces can be found at GreatDreams.Com/Ages)

We have now began to reach the end of Pisces and started to enter into the Age of Aquarius. The exact dates of these are debated. Some say this transition is anywhere between 1900-2500 CE, some are a little more specific saying the date will be some time between 1960 and 2020, and others strongly believe down to the exact date, that the transition happens on December 21, 2012 (though most astrologers agree no changes will happen on an exact date, but more of a gradual change, much like the seasons).

The Age of Aquarius

Aquarius as a sign represents a spiritual awareness. It represents a subtle understanding of the energies of the cosmos and human emotion. It is also the 11th sign in the zodiac. In numerology, this number is significant in terms of extremes. It represents so much greatness, it can make a person that will change the world in grand ways (more about the number 11 in the article 12.12.12 - Why is it Significant?). Aquariuses strive to make the world a better place, are humanitarians and philanthropists.

In much the same way that the Water Bearer brings that precious liquid as a gift, Aquarians shower the world with their thoughts and new ideas ~ Astrology.com

It is said that during this time, people become more perceptive to subtle energies, such as auras, earth as well as celestial vibrations. During this time we can see the world change with many opportunities for the better. This is a time where we blossom out of our more self-serving tendencies as whole and begin to look at the world as whole, aiding others with their survival while maintaining an earth-enriching attitude.

It is an air sign, which correlates with communication. Over the years the world has been getting smaller with our abilities to communicate across oceans with the press of just a few buttons, and now with programs such as Skype, we can "video phone" our loved ones in far away places.

Over the next 2000 years, we can expect a lot of greatness from this Age. This may just be the time we finally shift from these troubled times to a worldly harmonic vibration.

Thanks, a nice reminder that the wheel rolls on..... and takes us to new-places yet unseen, unimagined, undreamed - yet gently and gradually.

Thanks friends! Karthikkash - I think it would be interesting to see what would happen in the Age of Scorpio. It would be a very passionate time, that is certain. Man kind, I believe has not lived so long. We have only been around to see sine the age of Virgo or Leo, I think is what I have read.

And fen lander - Thank you! :)

All religions have their foundations in astrotheology.

It is an amazing subject to study and one that opens the mind to unify the physical and spiritual.

The great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once claimed

“As long as you still experience the stars as something "above you", you lack the eye of knowledge.”

Thank you for a very interesting and informative hub on this topic. I was aware of the Mayan "Great Year" and its new beginning. I understand better now how the procession of the equinoxes fits into this.

Such an interesting and well put together hub. Although I've always been interested in astrology, I never really understood the procession of the equinoxes until reading this. Voted up, interesting and useful.
