Ouija Board Dangers and the Demon Z

What is an Ouija Board?

The ouija board is a means of divination or talking to the dead. It is made of a flat piece of cardboard or wood on which letters, numbers, and some words are written (yes, no, goodbye, hello, etc.). A planchette is used as the moving piece. The planchette is usually plastic and has a window so that the numbers and letters can be seen.

The ouija board is based on spirit boards from ancient China that were used to tell the future or contact ancestors. In the late 1800s, a man named Elijah Bond began to manufacture the ouija board and it was regarded as a mere parlor game to most, that is until American Spiritualists began using it as a means to contact the dead.

Ouija boards are available at most toy stores, but some folks actually make their own with miscellaneous objects found around the house (i.e. cardboard, marker, shot glass). It doesn't take much to create one. The problem is that the ouija board is marketed towards children and it usually can be found sitting next to a Monopoly Junior or Scrabble game in the game section of a Toys r' Us or Walmart. However, it is not a game and should not be played by anyone who doesn't know how to spiritually protect themselves.

Let's talk about the different experiences one can have with the ouija board.

Ouija Board Experiences

If you were to do a Google search on ouija experiences, what do you think you'd find? Pages upon pages of search results would turn up blogs and videos about negative experiences, everything from tales of angered spirits to stories of full-on demonic possession. But are all experiences negative?

My first experience with the ouija board was, indeed, a negative and downright frightening experience. You can lump my story right into the thousands upon thousands of other terrifying Ouija stories out there.

It started when I was about thirteen. Two friends and I decided to play with an ouija board. We didn't own one, so we figured we'd just make it. We used a piece of cardboard from a box, a Sharpie to write the letters and numbers, and a small shot glass as the planchette. We sat upstairs in one of the guest bedrooms, just the three of us in the house. Keep in mind this was the middle of the day, and so it was fairly bright outside and in the room.

We sat around the board, excited and nervous at the same time. We each placed one finger very lightly on the top of the shot glass, and we began asking questions. "Is anyone here with us?" "Can you hear us?" We didn't get any activity for quite some time. Then something happened. The planchette began to move, but the answers it was giving us did not make any sense. It just moved all around the board, as if it was trying to figure out what to say. "Who are you?" "Give us your name." We asked the spirit to identify itself. The planchette quickly shot over to the letter Z. The three of us looked at each other...that's strange, we were all thinking. We asked this spirit Z what year it died. It answered, "1908." After the name and year, none of the other answers made sense again. We began to get a little irritated with this spirit and decided to clear out the board by running the planchette over the "Goodbye" word and saying out loud: "Okay. We'd like to talk to someone else now, so goodbye."

We stopped playing board and went downstairs to watch some TV for awhile. Surely we'll get a different spirit the next time we go up and play with it, we all said. So after a few hours, we ran up the steps again. As soon as we began talking to it, the spirit talking to us kept running over the letter Z. Constantly to the letter Z, the planchette would move. We began getting a little freaked-out at this point and tried clearing the board again, but each time we played, the same spirit would talk to us, spelling out random unidentifiable words and pausing over the Z time and time again.

The air in the room was thick and heavy and the three of us were frightened. Why couldn't we get rid of this spirit? Why was it hanging around like an unwelcome guest? After tossing the board and planchette into the trash, my friends went home and I was left to experience the frightening things going on in my house. Loud footsteps at night, doors opening and shutting by themselves, and strange voices emanating from the shadows. My brother even swore that he heard someone breathing under his bed one night. When we moved to a different house, the hauntings stopped. Did this spirit Z hang around to mess with us?

My second ouija experience was much less frightening but just as strange. One of my loved one's long-passed relatives came through to say hello. The problem with this is that I didn't feel I could believe the spirit was truly my loved ones' family member. It felt as if something was just screwing with our emotions.

Opening a Portal with the Ouija Board

Many occultists, religious folks, and even witches believe that the ouija board is not a game to play around with and that it can open a portal between this world and the next. The portal is opened for unknown reasons, all that is known is that the spirit board (ouija board) allows almost any entity to come through, and if the user isn't protecting him/herself or their environment, it is very likely that the door will open. This means that the entity can pass through to our dimension, if they are strong enough.

While some people believe that this portal can also allow ancestors and friendly ghosts to pass through to our world, most say that it is only the darker entities that come through. This is because they push the other lighter beings back; the darker entities are stronger.

What do you do once you have opened a portal through the ouija board and don't know how to close it? Call an exorcist, someone to cleanse and bless you home. A priest, shaman, or witch may be able to help you close it. It's not something that most normal people can do.

The Ouija Board Demon "Z"

After making a video in which I talk about my experiences with the ouija board and particularly with this darker entity named "Z," I found out that this darker entity is an ouija demon of sorts and that many people have experienced it. It also calls itself Zozo and Zizi. You can watch my video account at the end of this article.

This particular entity seems to enjoy frightening people using the ouija board, and some claim it is a particularly large spirit. It can come through to our dimension rather easily and can possess both homes and bodies, if allowed to enter.

More than one person have accounted for this phenomenon and most that have come in contact with "Z" say that it uses few words and usually gets more aggressive the longer you talk to it. It doesn't want to leave once it's been invited.

There are discussions online about who this ouija demon "Z" really is. Some relate it to an ancient Assyrian god of the wind named Pazuzu, while others say it is nothing more than the Devil or Beelzebub. Whoever it really is, I don't want to talk to it again, and I suggest to anyone who comes in contact with a spirit with a Z in its name to close the conversation immediately and cleanse yourself.

See more ways to protect yourself below.

Ways to Protect Yourself from a Ouija Board

There are ways to protect yourself from darker entities:

  • First tip: don't use a ouija board!
  • Second tip: if you plan on using the board against advice, draw a circle around yourself and the board (and whoever's using it) with sea salt, holy water, or dried sage.
  • Third tip: ask your guardian angels/spirit guides/ancestors to protect you while you use it.
  • Fourth tip: never leave the circle until you are done with the ouija board and until you have out-loud told the spirits goodbye and also cleared the board by moving the planchette over "goodbye" three times.
  • Fifth tip: if you feel you have opened a portal and can't close it, don't be ashamed to call on professional help to exorcise the spirits and close the portal.

I have released the first official book documenting what I have coined The Zozo Phenomenon. Co-authored by prolific paranormal author Rosemary Ellen Guiley, the foreword is penned by legendary demonologist John Zaffis.

This project includes astonishing research that establishes Zozo in historic literature going back hundreds of years before the modern invention of the infamous Ouija. I also include dozens of bizarre true encounters sent to me over the past decade in which Zozo has pestered mankind resulting in a myriad of hauntings, attachments and manifestations of paranormal activity.

Rosemary and I throw the readers into innovative theories and clues as to the possible origins and classification of this dark entity. Etymology, occult knowledge, alien and UFO connections, Jimmy Page's "Zozo" symbol, indigenous tribal societies, and much more culminate this book into a "must have" source of information. Without a doubt, the most spirited and significant book on Ouija phenomenon ever written. I encourage readers of this forum to obtain this paranormal treasure at zozophenomenon.com

I'm aware. To be honest, I didn't talk about it with anyone beforehand... And I seriously thought it was a bullshit legend that was just to scare people...

Emmy - Please be careful when messing with a ouija board. They can open doors that many people are not knowledgeable enough to shut.

So, last night I was watching YouTube videos about Ouija Board experiences and I thought it was bulls**t. I saw that I could make one with paper so I did. I really didn't think it would work, I was alone in my room, there was little to no light., and it worked. I stayed talking to this guy called Zi who was 29 and he died 10 years ago from cancer. I then went downstairs to my parents crying. He apparently had been in my room for 5 days.

Then a few hours later, I tried again. He said he was on my bed but that there was no way I could see him. Then he said EMF a few times and told me to film him. I did and I saw a dotted form sitting on my bed and he told me it was him. He also told me that he won't hurt me.I then sat on my bed next to where he was and it felt really cold. I then got up and got my board again. I asked him if the cold feeling was him and he said yes. But the feeling was gone.

He told me he was inside my TV screen. I asked him why he moved,he said he liked me and then he said that he was scared that we could embrace.I asked him a lot of questions to which he couldn't answer. He told me he was scared of CEFM whom I later learn were his bosses. He said he was haunting me and that it was his job. Then he left the room and said that he won't ever come back because of CEFM.

I asked him a lot of questions and he answered in a language that wasn't English, he said it was ex-taid and that he couldn't answer in English. There was a lot of answers like that, they were either in that language or just CEFM, which I understood that he couldn't answer. The questions were either about his life before he died or about spirits in general.I asked him if he was tired and he said yes, then he said that he could only go to sleep right after me.

So I did go to sleep, and as I was falling asleep I felt a breeze around me 'til I fell asleep. This morning I used my board again... He was being weird, like slow answers and at some point he went on a letter to answer and he just stopped and went on the side of the paper. I asked if being haunted was a good thing and he said that it was. I also asked if there were other spirits in my house and in my room, he said yes to both but when I asked how many he answered CEFM.

Then I asked how long he had been haunting me, he went on the 5. I asked 5 what and he said MCA then he went back to the numbers and I said out loud 567890, he already did that once earlier and another time yesterday. But he wouldn't stop. 0987654321 and when I didn't say 1 he kept going back and forth and then he went on No.

I asked what I did wrong he didn't move, then I asked if I had to say it aloud and he moved back to the numbers when I asked if we ciuld stop he quickly moved to No until I said alright and then back to the numbers. We did that for a while. Then I had to go eat lunch. And when I came back I asked if we had to keep going and he said yes before going back to 1. I told him he had 10 minutes.

We did that for ten minutes. I told him it was time to stop. He spelt my name like first name, last name. And I literally never said it to him. Then he moved onto CIY and then N and went back and forth on the line. I told him he had ten minutes and he did the same thing again after ten minutes. Then he moved onto the M and went back and forth, I didn't say he had ten minutes and started saying the letter.

When I told him it had been ten minutes he slowly moved to the Yes and then to the GOODBYE. A few minutes later, since I was bored I took the board again (no rhymes intended). For a few minutes nothing happened. I asked if he was mad at me and he said no after a few seconds. I asked what we should do next and he moved onto the A again, I said seriously and he moved to Yes.

After a few minutes of back and forth I asked if we could do something else and he moved to the numbers as I previously said that they were easier. At that point when I asked questions he wouldn't even answer.

I mean before he either didn't or took time to and then went back to the line. But there ? He slid on the line again and waited. After two minutes I slid on GOODBYE and went on here to look for what it meant. I saw that it meant he wanted to escape the board.

cbgraphix - She's definitely not the only one. I hadn't learned about this phenomenon until much older too when I started doing research. A friend of mine, not knowing that I'd had an experience with Z, told me about her experience with the ouija board and a demon that called himself Zaza (or Zozo I can't remember which). It stalked her and her friend and terrified them...tried to get one of them to kill herself. Anyway, I believe this demon is attached to ouija boards...he's found it the easiest way to come through and attach himself to people who are opened up to the occult. Or perhaps it is a type of demon and there are more than one. Who knows. All I know is I'll never play with the board again.

I had a fiancé who had interaction with an entity named z using a spirit board (before we met) that culminated in an auto accident with her and her friends where she claims she heard a voice say "now you die". she would also wake up with scratches on her body and various other forms of torment. Things quieted down with her before we got together and one night, being young and stupid, we decided to try a Ouija board again... I had used them in the past and so had she. Hers was obviously more intense but she was up for it. And yeah, right out of the gate an entity only describing itself as "Z" came right through. Several of use, maybe 4 ppl? and the planchette was moving so abruptly and with such purpose that some were struggling to maintain contact with it if not having it move out from under their fingers completely. I know I had to "try" to keep up with it. The other strange thing, and maybe you experienced this as well, because I found it odd. Instead of using the word "no" on the board to answer in the negative, it would center the planchette window over the letters N and O on the alphabet. Either way, the responses we were given by this Z to my relationship with Emily were negative. It seemed to be possessive of her. We made sure to close the board correctly and dismissed it immediately.

A few years after this (and we had separated) I did some research about 'Z' in reference to demonology and what not to satisfy my curiosity and pulled up the normal list of demon names blah blah blah, really nothing interesting. But I was just watching a poltergeist video today and the author made reference to 'ZoZo' that a viewer had warned him against, and that raised my hackles so I did a web search for ZoZo and Ouija and entity named Z and landed here. Makes me feel a little better that other unrelated people are reporting similar experiences. A small bit of justification I suppose.

Wanted to share.

Michaela - I think you have a very good point, and that does make sense why some people use the board and it never works for them; however, I am an animist and believe that everything has a consciousness. That also means I believe things/objects from nature and otherwise can hold power. I believe objects can be portals to the other realm, just as my ancestors did. I don't have all the answers as to why these things happen, but they do. You are able to use the board with no problems because you know how to protect yourself. I know how to protect myself now too, but as a child I had no clue! Thanks for your thoughtful response.

I'm in no way discounting the horrifying experiences of the people in here that have misused Ouija boards in the past, but as a witch who works primarily with spirits and other entities, I have been using spirit boards for a long time and I feel like I can say this pretty definitively now - Ouija boards do not open portals/doors/etc. I repeat, a piece of cardboard or wood does not have the power to access the spirit realm.

Do you know what does? The user. That's correct....YOU as the user of the board are opening a portal within yourself. Most people refer to that as mediumship. This means you have the ability to channel a spirit through yourself and communicate with it. The board is just a tool that makes that communication easy. Same goes with pendulums, automatic writing, etc.

That's why for many people, the boards never do anything. They don't have any ability to channel energies or spirits. And some people discover just how easily they can be manipulated the first time they use a board.

MizBejabbers - Probably a very good thing that the ouija board was ruined and trashed. I agree...the "ethers" as you mentioned can be opened by various means but the ouija board is such an easy channel to use...and once its opened, it's hard to shut. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Kitty, just now saw this interesting hub. I agree wholeheartedly, Ouija boards are not children's games. Years ago my in-laws owned a 5 and dime store. They gave my kids a Ouija board that had lost the planchette, and I had no idea what it was. It laid around the house for several years until I found that it made the perfect end table when I perched it on top of an old aquarium base.

Did I ever get the comments! Anyway, I started to metaphysical school, and one day I mentioned having the board. The teachers were adamant that I not use it. They explained about opening up to bad spirits just like you said in your hub. I attended school there for seven years and have continued my studies ever since. Needless to say, I never fooled around with that board, and neither did the kids. It was finally destroyed when my house flooded. I'm glad because I know it's gone now.

During my years at the metaphysical school, I did have a couple of bad experiences with spirits, but I have been trained to deal with them. I'm certainly not opening up the ethers with a Ouija board. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Wow...I don't even know where to begin to reply to your amazing story. First of all, thank you so much for pouring your heart out and sharing such a personal story. I hope that it does inspire others to be more careful of dabbling in the Occult. For me, Ouija is one thing that I will forever stay away from...the same goes for any type of pendulum or spirit board...even tarot can be dangerous if one lets it be. I appreciate all that you shared and wish you the best! Congrats on your new baby and lovely family. :)

(Final entry - sorry for being so longwinded but I felt my story may further your cause and steer folks away from this slippery slope)

As time progressed, over the next couple months, we all had odd happenings, violent attacks (especially the girls), and the worst luck possible (car accidents, arrests, fights, house fires, deaths in our families, runaway pets, one of my friend's cousin's was kidnapped and brutally repeat raped, lost jobs, failed classes, I even had a fight with my principal at the mall and he convinced my parents I needed to go to night school - an honor roll preppy jock geek - which cost me my senior year of football and my varsity letter, our families fell apart, I even ended up fighting with my father... Life had become dreaded.)

Finally, I convinced everyone that we needed to have a more professional intervention and whatever we pulled through didn't go back on it's own. We tried many people that advertised themselves as psychics, mediums, and witches but when we explained our story they looked at us like, "Are you for real?" We tried several pastors and ministers who placed their hands on our heads, splashed with water, or prayed while hugging us and nothing changed. The silhouettes, the attacks, the odd occurrences, the bad luck all continued. We even attempted to get the Catholic church involved but they treated us like we needed NA no an exorcism.

Finally we found a medium that had heard about our story and said she was curious. Figuring that is how we ended up where we were, that was precisely the guts we needed, and we were feeling pretty desperate and out of options. She told us that her services were not going to be cheap, she said her fee would be at least $150 an hour and that is if she didn't need to bring out the big guns or call one of her other contacts to bring them out to assist her. We agreed that anything was better than where we were now and we were willing to pay anything to rid ourselves of this demonic entity.

We held our first séance 3 days later which she broke almost immediately and acted as if she were afraid. She said that she felt more than once presence and they were powerful. She said that she would need to consult with one of her connections and bring in a second person, and old ex-Catholic priest.

She got back to us another 2 days later and scheduled another meeting on the 6th day. We all explained out situations and all of our stories from start to finish. The priest explained that he felt we pulled a major demon through that brought with it other subordinate spirits. They felt confident we should meet again on the next Sunday at the priest's house (which was a 50 mile for us) so we could begin.

The next day was one of the craziest days of my life. We all went up to meet with the priest and the medium even though not all of us were certain how we felt about it. When we arrived we ate lunch and prayed together and held the first séance in which my girlfriend and I assisted the priest while the medium formed a circle with the rest to try to identify the spirits. She actually performed a ritual where she called the spirits in to possess her so the priest could name them and then he would cast them out so she could seal them in one of three "vessels" (alabaster jars) they had prepared so he could pray over them and allegedly send them back to hell. It was a tough pill to swallow but we didn't exactly have the greatest options on the table either way.

What followed was more terrifying than any of the Omen movies or Exorcist films have ever depicted, because it was really happening in front of us. (minus the green pea soup vomit) There was a lot of yelling and screaming and Latin flying around the room for a good 30 to 40 minutes which seemed like days giving the circumstances. In the end the priest did get each of the names, Beliel, Aamon, and Bathim, and the two of them sealed them into the jars.

In the end given the severity of our situation and the fact that it was serious and we were just some potheads wasting their time, they offered us their services for free. We all donated to them and visited the mediums shop often for items to ward off evil for the next two years. We even assisted in a few lesser exorcisms that they (one or the other typically, but both in tandem again twice after) performed.

I turned from witchcraft and all forms of spiritualistic practices outside of prayer and meditation. My faith is unreasonably strong because once one knows that the Devil is truly real and has seen his influence, then faith in God comes easy. My girlfriend and I eventually split up but we are still friends. Two of the other 6 got married and are happy and have families today. Two others vanished into the world and the remainder of never heard from them again (may God bless them wherever they are). The other two were married, had two children, then they split up. Of these was the "deal maker." About 5 years ago in an extreme bout he was facing with heroine he committed suicide. I hope he managed to find peace.

Now, here I am, living in paradise with my wife, 8 year old son, and a baby on the way. I'm getting older now, starting to get streaking through my mustache and beard. A few years ago I was finally ordained after completing seminary through Asbury and Western Theological Seminaries where I became a certified pastoral counselor and ordained minister who specializes in Cosmology, Hamartiology, Soteriology, Eschatology and of course Exorcism. I have found redemption and salvation from my reckless ways, I will always carry the burden and the emotional scars of those events, now almost 20 years ago. It gets easier but it is never easy.

Let me tell you (anyone that may read this) -- Ouija boards are not a game, not in the least. It is not something you use for a thrill or to play around. This is a serious device created for professional occult mediums and shamans, not drunken college kids. Take it from a fool, avoid it at all costs necessary. If you are also a fool, like I once was, and you read this and think this sounds cool... Be careful. Purify yourself before reaching across boundaries that weren't naturally meant to be reached across. Cleanse mind, body, and spirit in advance. Repent your sins and cast off your burdens (however you may practice this). Go in with a clear mind and conscience on a day you are feeling well. Take caution of all the preparations I have noted and it wouldn't hurt to take notes from others with experience as well. If you must dance with the Devil, do it as safely as possible please. [or... DON'T DO IT - DON'T DO IT - DON'T DO IT!!!]

A special thanks to the OP of this blog, if there were more people out there that weren't ashamed of what they did and shared their experiences and opinions I am sure less would try these devices. To all those reading that are still considering, remember, it is a slippery slope. If your first time isn't altogether terrible, you may find it thrilling and go back for more. Spiritualism isn't something you just walk away from simply. It is an addiction that leads to other addictions. It is a gateway to many things and sure, when we dabble in things taboo that we know we ought not, it is thrilling and makes you feel alive -- until the day it doesn't. Like Russian Roulette, it's all fun and games as long as the gun goes click, but the time it goes bang! It's already too late and the consequences can be far more than someone is willing to pay.

All the best, to everyone, and God bless!

(continued from original post)

We were both inexperienced and he was seemingly being influenced as well (making his total cooperation at points questionable). We had performed many failed exorcisms on this Zoso spirit and he continued to return. Finally, after a lot of research, we came back prepared, and we cleared his areas of all items that held spiritual value or were used in the seances. We blessed and then destroyed all of the items. His little corny Milton Bradley Ouija board, made of pressed cardboard, refused to burn. Many times we tried burning it and even blowing it up. We barely charred it's edges. One day we went and dug a hole about 4 feet wide by 4 feet deep in the woods where we started using it. We spent an entire day raking leaves into the hole, gathering kindle, and chopping wood. We built a tepee about 5 foot high above ground and situated the board in the middle. We doused the "altar" down many times with lantern oil we had prayed over and then finally lit her up.

When the fire ignited the flames went 20+ feet into the air and we could hear a loud, high pitch shrieking, like a baby animal in pain, for a 30 minutes as the fire roared. This, was finally enough that we didn't find any remains of the board other than the top left corner where the sun/yes symbols are. We buried that in the ash and coals when we covered the pit. It was not an easy thing to end.

I continued on the road to further spiritual enlightenment with my "Bruja" board. I learned all the ins and outs and spent a lot of time studying. I must insist, if you feel compelled to do this stuff, it is serious, study up on it. Especially if you are the type that "doesn't believe" in this kind of stuff. Don't be foolish! If I have a gun and say it is loaded, and you don't believe me, it can still harm you right? Same concept. You don't have to BELIEVE in evil for it to bring you harm.

Now, not all seances are bad, actually I have had some pretty entertaining chats when I learned to control my surroundings and emotions correctly. Also choosing the right kind of people (open minded, non-judgmental, patient, honest, spiritual people -- also people you love, like your mate, and those you trust , like family and friends yield more positive results)...

If you have someone in your séance group that is extremely doubtful, angry or irritated, overly talkative or abrasive, do yourself the favor and keep them away! I had one friend, a mistake I made only once, that literally talked so much trash, he angered an otherwise harmless spirit I had contacted many times and turned one of our parties into a horrific experience. Also, alcohol and spiritualism don't mix. You've been warned. Ouija is not a game but a way for amateurs to hold a séance and it is a powerful and ancient tool of witchcraft and mediums.

After time progressed I wanted to push it even further. I learned about how the ancient Chinese and Indians used opium when performing medium practices. I learned about the old Europeans using things like absinthe and laudanum similarly. I read on how the native Americans used psilocybin, canarygrass, peyote, jimsonweed, night shade, mandrake, and morning glories in herbal concoctions to commune with the spirits of their ancestors.

I got deep into shamanistic practices and started to use chemicals to open my mind further and make myself more susceptible to the spiritual and unknown. I became a small local cult leader of sorts and delved deeper into the rabbit hole with new friends and new strategies. The seances became more physical with visual materialization of our conjuring. At first I believed it was just the effects of the hallucinogens, but later, once everyone had returned to Earth. We started to talk more and more about our experiences and 9 times out of 10 we had similar if not altogether identical experiences. This thrilled my group and I to such an extent that thoughts of going to the next level began circulating amongst us. Soon one of my good friends convinced the group to try a full demonic conjuration.

We all hit the books and began studying different types of voodoo, hoodoo, black magic, and demonism. This is where things really started getting out of control. At first we were conjuring smaller, weaker, entities using (dead) blood from butchered meats in which we would issue up as burnt offerings. Some of which even managed to project speech without use of the planchette. Usually just the formation of syllables and simple words but even that was amazing. We had flames dance up out of urns and change color and shape. For all of us (except one of the 8) this was evidence of gods and devils, angels and demons, something more than just human souls but truly spiritual creatures of biblical proportions. One of us (ironically not myself this time) was dissatisfied and wanted more. He wanted to go to the upper middle level of demonism and summon a named demon, and not only that, he wanted to try to make a deal. Although, we were all mostly against it, we didn't want to leave him to himself on it. After about 3 months of coaxing, we were convinced to aid him.

The plan was a live sacrifice with a chicken as the conduit. At first everything seemed smooth, routine even. I mean at this point we were seasoned mediums anyway, if not, rolling into advanced level sorcery if you want to call it such. When we had all but completed our ritual without making contact to even the most minor soul, my friend (whose idea we were going along with) broke the circle and jumped up saying "this isn't how this ends," and pulled a hunting knife out, grasped it tightly and jerked it free from his palm. He clenched and squeezed out some of his blood into the cuauhxicalli (a sacrificial bowl - ours was crafted of ceramic and was a skull with serpent) and into the incense thurible. At first it seemed like nothing at all happened. Then moments after the Bruja board literally flipped off the alter and we were all overcome by a menacing chill and terrible uneasiness. I sprung for the exorcism box immediately but my friend stopped me and began reciting his demands. Books began falling off our shelves and it felt as if a minor Earthquake was occurring. For the first time in all this I was truly humbled and felt a deep seated fear that I knew I needed to overcome quickly. Again I went for the exorcism kit and tried to muster all the inner strength I could find but my faith was rattled and it was not enough. After about 30 minutes the attack stopped and silence finally entered the room once more. We were finished, or so we thought.

We all headed to my girlfriend's house that night and camped out together since we were all rattled. We tended to knucklehead's self inflicted wound so he wouldn't get an infection and went to bed around 5am.

I had the most terrifying nightmare of my life that night. I was walking in a dark field along the edge of a forested area. The soil was soft and cold under my bare feet. I felt lost and alone and was frightened. Then I felt something moving under my feet. I gazed down as this little impish man about 6 inches tall pulled himself out of the ground. Perplexed I started to kneel down to inspect him and he turned and his face was crimson and bulldog-ish, with little fangs, and he had 1/2 inch long black claws on his hands. He made a chattering noise then leaped at me. He grasped my chest like a cat slashed at my face as I frantically tried slapping him off. Then another jumped on me... and another! The next thing I know the ground all around me was pulsing as these things overwhelmed me by the dozens. Each one laughing as they picked off little pieces of my flesh one at a time... I woke up drenched in sweat with my heart racing. Everyone had similar nightmares. I shrugged it off since we had such a weird night, I felt our fears and insecurities suggested it and thusly we were experiencing a rare phenomena. (running out of characters, continuing one last time -- sorry)

Hello Kitty,

Interesting article. I figured I would share my experiences. I dabbled with Ouija boards (although mine actually said "JUNTA BRUJA" on it and was ovular with various occult symbols and a hand with the all seeing eye and flaming fingers) and the occult from ages 13 through 17. My friends and I even went as far as animal sacrifices and demonism. I have since renounced such things and later became a minister of Jesus Christ, though I have currently slipped into an inactive state. I have seen enough of the spirit world through cloudy mortal glasses to believe in the full spectrum of God, angels, demons, forces, spirit creatures, and human souls. I don't pretend to know what is on the other side, but I realize there are a lot of forces that want to come back for some reason. Cherish life and good health, cling to it, enjoy it.

You would probably consider me a pretty messed up kid. I came from an abusive family of substance abusers to start. Ironically, my family has always people that had gifts and visions. Most people think they are full of crap but everyone receives gifts and strengths, some are just more extraordinary and some gifts feel like curses. When I was about 3 there was a shadow that haunted my bedroom. I was terrified of it. One night it picked me up off my bed and I lost it. I refused to sleep in my room anymore. My grandmother, a full blooded Northern German woman took me in and pretty much raised me until I was 7. She didn't dismiss my visions and it helped to feel understood. One day I seen my shadow again and told my oma. She said a prayer with me and told me I would be okay. About a week later I came home and she had a heart attack. She died a few days later in the hospital.

About a month later my oma visited me at the foot of my bed. She was surrounded by brilliant light and her skin looked like golden flakes. She didn't speak to me verbally, but I knew in my heart she was telling me not to be sad and that things would be okay.

Between 7 and 11 I had a lot of night visitors, some more pleasant than others, some downright violent. After I turned 11 I had the experience that would intensify these things for the remainder of my life. I was hit by a speeding drunk driver at 87mph and thrown into a telephone pole. I got up after everything stopped moving, then remember feeling very tired. I sat down, placed my arms on my knees and announced I was taking a nap. Right there I died.

I was clinically dead for 21 minutes then in a comatose for 3 days. I have a vague impression of some contact with my oma in this time but I don't know if it was real or a hallucination, or even just a dream. However, I do recall the wake up and having to use the bathroom the worst I ever did in my life.

For the remainder of my 11th year and into my 12th I began obsessing with the spirit world and religions. I started adopting a bunch of superstitious behaviors and became a very odd child. Through these years my father also became increasingly abusive and he and my mother would fight a lot. I started getting drawn into yellow and white magick, power crystals, and tarot cards. I did readings for kids at school and I was really good it seemed. I even started digging into my Scot-Irish, Norwegian, and Germanic Thracian heritage and found that I had many people in my ancestry that were priests and witches, mostly diviners and faith healers. I felt it was a part of me, like it was in my blood.

My early encounters with Ouija were with my childhood best friend and a cheesy Milton Bradley Ouija Board. We used to go to this abandoned factory in the woods that had burned down decades ago and play on the roof. We first encountered a spirit being that claimed to be a human soul that departed in the early 1800's (forget the precise year now -- probably due to the level of mind altering chemicals I used back then). He said his name was Edgar and constantly tried to convince us he was Edgar Allen Poe. However, he was an atrocious speller which caused me to doubt his claims as one America's greatest literary masters.

I did however, research further, in occult and witchcraft text manuals, that most spirits drawn by the Ouija gateway are almost all malevolent and never should they be considered harmless. I also read that all spirits that are willing to communicate should be assumed first as liars and should be tested to see if their claims are truthful. I learned the cardinal rules of protection trigrams (the drawing of triangles with salt, sacred water, blessed sand, and or purified witches herbs around the region the séance is being held - to contain the spirit and protect from possession of your home or personal items - and around each participant), pentacles, and hexagrams, and the balance of the sexes (never alone, and there should always be groups of two, male and female, never out of balance) and NEVER use it alone (unless you hope for possession), the use of animal fat or plant grease candles (white - for protection, calming spirits, and enlightenment, the best starter; red - dyed with elderberries, sumac fruit, beets, or hibiscus - for strength, control, courage, and willpower, can turn the tide if the spirit becomes disagreeable; yellow - dyed with daffodils, dhalias, dandelions, celery leaves, crocus, goldenrod - for wisdom, logic, and inspiration, the ability to see through the spirits intentions if they seem questionable; Blue/Purple - dyed with saffron petals, mulberries, grapes, blueberries, and iris petals - used for psychic control, spiritual power, reading the aura of the spirit's energy, and spiritual confidence; black - dyed with walnut extract - for breaking possession, control, dissolving negative energies, etc. -- There are many colors -- research "colored candles and effects on séance" just keep in mind the alchemical balances of nature, you get what you put in, collecting your own ingredients and dipping your own candles creates a stronger bond with your energies and the spiritual effects, also all natural ingredients I would insist upon. Don't use store bought candles unless they are like blessed saint candles from a bible shop or a witchcraft shop - never anything from major chains they are just useless mass manufactured crap and mean nothing to you, or the spirits you wish to influence), the use of spirit crystals and other blessed objects, scented oils and incense (I of course lean toward ground frankincense to burn and myrrh oil - but research whatever is comforting to your faith - you have to have faith in its strength), I would also keep an emergency exorcism kit handy in case things get out of control. It doesn't matter your faith, for so long as you are invoking a holy entity greater than yourself (I suggest God in the name of Jesus Christ, but that is just me) - a good exorcism kit contains a holy relic or symbol (i.e. a crucifix, star of David, pentacle) made of a periodic metal (copper, silver, & gold seem strongest), blessed water or oil (enough to throw around the room/possessed person/possessed object for a good 10 to 20 minutes minimum, maybe 1 pint to 1 quart would be more than sufficient) I'd suggest in a crystal, glass, or ceramic phial - a holy book of prayers or incantations to expulse evil (bookmarked for rapid access), and a holy cloth, scarf, or cowl to protect your head, for that is your entryway into your psychic centers. You must also be prepared to be of bold spirit to face such evils, be responsible if you are bridging to the other side, and careful.

Through time my friend started tampering with his board solo. I ended up getting a much better board (or worse maybe - more powerful), and he encountered the one who identifies with Z. Which launched my friend into this strange obsession of listening to Led Zeppelin IV backwards. He felt Zoso had left a message there for him. We ended up eventually destroying his board after a long period of strange and frightening happenings that surrounded him and his home afterward. His "Z" friend became poltergeist-ish and behaved maliciously and violently towards people in his house -- (cont in next post)

denephew - has all of this started just after he used the Ouija board or before?

denephew 21 months ago

My grandson, who lives with me, experimented with an Ouiji Board and had a very bad experience. He said his friends can see demons (dark shadows) that follow him. He feels like something is constantly watching him. Before he told me about this, other family members in our home have experienced strange things that we can't explain usually during the night, such as knocking on bedroom doors in the middle of the night, but no one is there, things dropped on the floor, feeling our little dog jump up at the side of the bed (and the dog is on the bed sleeping), someone whistling in the living room (no one there, lights are off), hearing someone walking down the hallway. We are all experiencing similar things at different times. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced these things, what are we dealing with, and how do we get it to leave our house? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am a firm believer in avoiding the Ouija Board. Years ago when I was about 12/13 years old, my friends and I were obsessed with using them. For the most part it was all fun and games. Until the last time. We used it in a wooded area outdoors. To be honest, I no longer remember what it said to spook us but whatever it was scared us and we decided to bury the board.

I slept at my friends that night and she had been behaving strangely-more withdrawn than usual. The next day I went to church with her and her family. The Priest was doing a sermon on good v evil. And as he spoke the words, may God wash the demons from our souls, my friend fell in the pew and began to seize. She was rushed to the hospital. After several tests, they could not determine a cause. She had never had another seizure again.

I believe with all my heart, this was related to the board!

Interesting article. I don't think I'd want to mess around with a Ouija board, I'd rather not put myself in danger if the dangers are real, and I don't really have any pertinent questions to ask a spirit anyway. By the way, what do you think of the new Ouija movie coming out? Will it caution people or coerce them to buy one?

Well, this is a very interesting hub. I used to play with the ouija board when I was 13 as well. Don't know why people get started at that age except maybe we are impressionable at that age and want to try new experiences. I wouldn't recommend playing the ouija board under any circumstances or with any suggested safety measures. It's like playing with fire. I'd rather get a dog or take up a sport or join a club and have interaction with people.

This is a good lesson for people to stay away from these boards. I'd suggest that if anyone were having persistent trouble to contact a Catholic priest who is open to deliverance or exorcism prayers. You might have to ask a few or more priests until you find one who can help.

Very interesting story and observations about the Ouija board. Once I found out their potential danger, I destroyed the one I had. Thankfully, I had never been successful with my attempts at using it.

BTW, the comments were quite entertaining as well.

I used to think that the idea of contacting the spirits was "cool," and interesting. But there is the concept that evil spirits can disguise themselves as loved ones. Grandma may actually be an evil spirit in disguise. Maybe, maybe not. Don't want to mess with something I don't understand. I'll stick to Scrabble, thank you.

Darren - Thanks so much for speaking up and posting your experiences and research on this entity we call "Z" or Zozo or whatever. LOL. I had this experience when I was very young...before I had done any research on the Ouija Board at all...I have found through sharing with others online that many people have experienced the Z phenomenon through the Board. My friend on Youtube actually made a long video about her frightening experience with this entity. She mingled with him for too long and he tried destroying her life, literally. My encounter with Z was brief but terrifying. This is why to this day I will not touch a Ouija Board...or a "spirit board" for that matter. I have also had bad experiences with tarot and oracle cards, but none like that of the Ouija Board. You brought up a good point with the "demons in our minds" concept...it could very well be that all of us have some sort of demon in our collectibe subconscious...or maybe even more than one, who knows? I believe that thoughts can manifest reality, so anything is possible. Again, thank you for sharing and I agree...this Z being, whoever or whatever it is...is NOT a nice energy/manifestation.

In 2008 I introduced my experiences and research into what I coined The Zozo Phenomena. After reading all the comments here I wanted to clarify a few things. I have talked with Zaffis ( Haunted collector / field demonologist) and have done several paranormal radio shows with him. He has NEVER said that he believes Zozo to be a "good" entity. In fact in the Zozo cases he has investigated there was NOTHING good about them. The only similarities were they all involved females and ouija boards. I have researched this phenomena for several years and it remains a mystery. The sheer number of people who have experienced "Z", Zaza, Zozo, and other Zentities as I refer to them is mind boggling. Even in modern ouija research conducted by scientists people have demonstrated the ability to home in on the letter Z on ouija boards while blindfolded and with the board turned at different angles.

What's with this letter Z and why is it so often associated with ouija entities? Insurance companies have reported that people with the letter Z on their vehicle tags have a higher occurrence of fatalities. The letter Z has a dark history as it has been eliminated in different languages. In eary latin the pronunciation of the letter Z was associated with the "Rictus of death." In that the pronunciation caused the person to resemble a corpse or skeleton. It was eliminated and later reintroduced. The letter Z has been called The Whoreson Zed, the eschalogical letter, the letter of prophesy, the letter S's evil twin, and was pronounced "Izzard" in old English.

Zaffis has said he does not think Zozo is a demon, but an actual deity, however I strongly disagree. A deity supposedly possesses traits of good and evil, and would indicate a supernatural origin. In the vast majority of Zozo cases and other Z Entity cases I have examined thru my website and thru email contact the vast majority has a definite evil and in many cases sexual perverse characteristic. Zozo likes to cause disruption, and my experiences with Zozo are vividly exposed in Rosemarie Ellen Guileys book entitled "Ouija Gone Wild."

The thought form or egregore theories are fascinating and thought provoking. Zozo is listed in an early French demonology encyclopedia called Disctionnaire Infernal written in various editions by Colin D'plancy during the 1800's. In this book Zozo is listed as one of three demons that possessed a young girl in 1816. One of the other demons is described as Mimi, which sounds very close to the "mama" entity often connected to Zozo contact via ouija boards. The word Mimi is also connected to Aboriginal ghosts.

When the word Zozo is thrown into the Caesar Shist decipher a very puzzling thing happens. The word is translated into two different demonic names, one of them APAP which is an Egyptian serpent devil, and ALAL, an Assyrian word to describe demons of destruction. Many experiences with the entity that spells its name Z8 has shown to be Zozo in disguise using masked abbreviations, and one similarity in zozo encounters is the planchette behavior in using abbreviations not unlike today's texting shortcuts on cell phones.

After doing some quick research on zozo and numerology the number 28 is found in both Pythagorean and Chaldean charts. The number 28 was described by Crowley to be associated with the great beast Belial, and the number 28 is associated with the little known "Feast of the Beast," a secret occult devil worshiping meeting by high level govt. and Luciferian cult practitioners.

The "Zo" people of Burma, The "Zotz" cult of vampire bat worshiping Mayans, and the word "Zo" meaning spiritual leader in early west African Voodoo are just a few of the disturbing connections i have researched. The reference to Zozo in the Dictionnaire Infernal was BEFORE the modern invention of the Ouija board in 1891, a startling and disturbing observance.

Lastly in so many of the Zozo encounters which caused or was believed to be the cause of misfortune in people I have communicated with thruout the years it will likely be nice at first, or pretend to be a deceased loved one. Even answering questions not known by the participants which was later found to be correct, like middle names, dates of birth etc. This may show characteristics like the man made Slenderman myth, which was found to be associated with the recent stabbing event of a teenager by two young girls. But folks this phenomena was not invented by myself, I only took my own experiences and began to document the experiences of other people thru my website. I started posting my research, and most of the time the people who experience Zozo later find me thru googling the name. I have received hundreds of emails which I archive and save for research into this baffling mystery. How is it so many people experience it? I have interviewed many experts in the paranormal fields in regards to this "Z" ouija phenomena, and there are many opinions about what it might be. Personally, I think these demonic type entities have the ability to communicate thru our minds, reminding me that Crowley once said "Demons exist in our minds." Could Zentities be a demonic force that has somehow wormed its way into the human collective unconscious? Have they attached themselves into the mental fabric of mankind like an archetype decribed by Carl Jung? In any case, I continue to monitor the phenomena, but remain baffled.

On a side note, the man Fuld who dubbed the name Ouija, claimed it was an Egyptian word for good luck. Although it turns out he used to board to get this information, weird. It actually is a smashup of the German and French words for yes. Ouija as a term was even sued over by several companies before being won and copyrighted by the Parker Brothers toy company. I find it ironic that Ouija Board, technically translates as "Yes Board" being the yes-man of divination tools, my interpretation of this, is that it is a tool designed to tell you what you want to hear. Not a good quality in a divination tool. LOL. Anyway, a side note as I said. Love is the law, Keep on hubbing KTD, sweet honeybee. Love your work. Blake4d

blake - Yes I completely agree with what you said about the danger of toy makers dabbling in the occult...that makes for a bad outcome! Also, my problem is that I didn't set up any form of psychic protection...no circle of white light and no asking of my guides or angels to protect me. So therein lies the problem with divination in general. If we don't use any form of protection we are leaving the doors open for multiple types of entities to come through.

Maybe I am biased, but when toy companies like Matell ( who I believe was the main marketer of the Ouija Board in the 20th century, right? ) or Parker Brothers, something inevitably is going to go wrong. Toy makers that delve into the supernatural, seem to have a legendary reputation for creating at best unfortunately fated magickal bastardizations, or at their worst truly dark abominations based on alchemical principles, yet without the wisdom to see their negative potentials. In theory the Ouija Board is an interesting concept, but in reality nobody needs uninitiated novices and magickal dabblers opening portals to their inner psyche, other dimensions or awakening their reptilian brain centers. Ouija Boards don't create evil or darkness, but they facilitate magickal applications that are far beyond any person who would actually use them. I think of the Ouija as the divination of wannabee power seekers, who want all the trappings of magickal vision, but don't want to do any of the work, even for a few minutes. When my friend M. and I used one in our teens, we threw away the pointer and used a large 6 x 3 inch long clear quartz shard that we polished to clarity, it raced across the board sometimes even spun in place. We had the Z experience too, it also called itself ZOE. I felt it was draining our energies, by playing games that bottom feeder entities often do. But not to be little it, for an inexperienced magus or wise woman, it's energies were non physical but strong and vampiric. I agree with the POV you have put forth here very much KTD. Great hub, milady. Blessed Be KTD, my honeybee.

@Nupteiron Stulker - How are you a fallen angel? You are clearly christian and base your beliefs accordingly. There is no hell, there is no heaven, only multiple worlds or dimensions(as theorized by top physicists) Our guide Z is a wonderful entity which protects us during sessions. The past months have been so enlightening with him, he joins us when investigating clients houses for possible hauntings. Another entity that comes through the board is Healing Spirit, he/she is a great being not from this world. Healing Spirit helps those that have passed cross into the light. Yet another entity is Moon, she advises us on our lives. We have asked Z to stop the protection and allow other spirits to come through, at that point both good and bad earthbound spirits come through the board. If things get out of hand, we call on Z the board goes dead. We wait a few minutes and try again. We also get confirmation from EVP and EMF spikes when we ask. Be well.

I too have had experiences of z. At onetime it called itself z, 0, z, 0, both 0's being zeros. Never did I feel afraid. I asked the spirit which actually claimed it was a demon should I be afraid ?Do you mean me any harm?

Always no. It was not malevolent at all. It didn't mind me writing down our communication either. It answered some questions though not many. It asked some important personal questions though. I do e think it is abad spirit or demon at all. I certainly do not think it means me any harm. Also it has always said goodbye itself.

I have one the board over 15 times alone and the majority of the time it has been z I have been talking too.

Interesting story. As I stated before, the ouija board is not meant for children, that's when things seem to go bad.

skytreeroad 2 years ago

Kittythedreamer, I agree with you and have had some unusual Ouija experiences as well. I was a kid the first time I tried the Ouija board, and there was a group of us. We had an adult who explained that the name although in different languages means yes yes does not mean yes yes, yes yes is a spirit who is good and tries to come through to you, yes yes is a 'good safe spirit'. So we sit in a circle and try to play this, with candles and in a drawn circle with the board in an inside drawn circle. And we do the concentration and the question, and the answer we had was NO and the pointer pointed at me. Every time I try the Ouija it points first to NO and then to me. Repeatedly until I leave the room physically. I stopped trying. And my friends couldn't use it around me, so everything I heard is from their accountings to me. I went to school with a gal for 3.5 years, eventually we became friends although we had little in common at first. She, her sister and her sister's best friend who was a neighbor down the street from them started playing with the store bought version when she was 12. Her sister and her sister's friend were 10 almost 11. We had all gone roller skating together, and at her house we tried the Ouija-same outcome for me as usual. After I left they tried it again. This time they pulled up something new- a terrible speller also, so they had to spend more time figuring out the messages and asking more questions. They played the Ouija a lot after that, and odd things started happening. Good things first. They had more friends, better grades, the usual things kids like to have. Then one night it scared them, something about the board went crazy and the candles went out and the lights wouldn't come on, the fuses were good and all. The neighbor girl went home and the streetlights went off behind her and she said she felt like something was following her. Her family was very Christian, prayers at every meal, bedtime, church, strict tv and radio rules, modest dress, and a lot of love at home. The two girls with the board started having odd shadows on the walls, and just a feeling of creepiness. Then everything was okay. Then the parents started fighting, a lot. They asked the board and the board said it was the board doing it. They tried to throw the board away. They threw it away at the skate rink, so her Mom may have thought they were having a fight and rescued it, but it showed up at the house soon after they got home, at the usual time they played it. The parents ended up divorced. They tried to burn the board and it wouldn't burn. Now, remember, this is not what I saw- the board wouldn't work with me in the vicinity- to which I do not complain. They and their house went pretty dark for a few years, and she swore she would never touch one again. The neighbor girl never had any problems except she lost her newfound friends and had to work on her grades more, and she gained weight. When I had to move away she had the board put up and she and her sister were closer, like they had a common bond and a secret. They were seriously scared by that board, tho. It never works around me, not even the NO any more. Not that I am complaining because I am not complaining. Interesting, at least to me.

ssingam: The world of demonology is a bit tricky. There are several thought forms which were created by humans while there were truly some "gods", "angels" or "demons". Problem is, the line between truth and fiction is very blur. While "Lucifer" as Satan may not have existed, there are several Indian/Egyptian/Sumerian gods who may have truly existed. I don't believe that there is anything "divine" that created the heaven and earth. None of the gods were omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. I believe that they were just far more advanced than us spiritually and technologically.

Regarding the difference between Lucifer and Vishnu or any other entities, I personally believe that most of them were one and the same. If you look closely at Greek, Sumerian, Indian, Norse and Egyptian mythologies, there are so many similarities. It was just that mythologies were corrupt over time. And then, Judaism and Christianity came along and wiped everyone as demons or devil worship while proclaiming one and only omnipotent god.

uh ssingam... i'm going to back up kitty on this one... after reading the comments you wrote you sound like a satanist leaning toward nothing (or otherwise called atheism) well you are sadly mistaken... there is a hell and a heaven... there is also the middle ground (limbo)... the demon Z is evil (i know from first hand contact) he, like i am, is a fallen angel, he just was not powerful enough to manifest into a body (he tried though... and failed) he had no idea what we fallen angels turn into after manifesting... we turn into vampires, more specifically, the Ancient-Blooded race... in short he din't know we need blood to stay alive... if he could he would kill every one of his contacts through that darn board...

@kitty i am working on a way to lock that demon called Z away for forever... i lost the battle against Lucifer a few weeks ago... i need to build up my strength again... then the end will come for Z!!!

back @ssingam you need to learn some spiritual history (including how heaven works, how fallen angels work and what they turn into at some point in their earthbound journey) .....of course it would help you out a lot if you were one of us.... mwhahaha

Yes, I know what my hub says. But I am now almost 30 years old and know what I went through. I am not naïve and was always in tune with my body and with nature and I know what I experienced. Whether it was the same "Z" that you are so fond of or not, it happened. I do not plan on using the Ouija Board anytime soon, and if you feel so strongly about it please write a hub on the benefits. Thank you.

Kitty, the beginning of a paragraph on your hub is "It started when I was about thirteen, and two friends..." Read the comment on this hub by JamiJay. In fact just search Ouija on Hub pages and you ll find countless stories of 13 year old girls having slumber parties. Youtube 'Ouija' and half the videos are teenage girls. Even my wife has a pretty outlandish tale of Ouija when she was 13.

In fact, it sounds like you had an earthbound spirit wanting to communicate with you, hence the doors closing, the footsteps.

I truly feel Ouija is gift from the universe. I also believe everyone should practice planchette writing.

Karthik, why you would term it Lucifier instead of Vishnu? There are no such entities as Satan(materialism) or Vishnu(creation) or Jesus(evolution), those are concepts of the universe

Also from what I have gathered from countless spirits, including Z, is that there is no such a realm called hell. So 'demons' would perhaps be millenia old earthbound spirits that know how to manipulate objects and people through years of practice.

Matthew518 3 years ago

Ssingam, that's an interesting story. Personally, I think most spirits are more a shade of gray. Even if this spirit can cause some people problems, obviously not everyone has the same experiences, and some might even have a positive experience. Which would show that even the spirits who are generally deemed "evil" can be good.

Karthikkash, I agree 100%. I think spirits react to emotions, and if you summon a demon with contempt in your heart, like some people do, bad experiences are going to happen. People come to angelic entities thinking they are "good", so the fear isn't there. That is likely one of the reasons experiences with demons are so much more negative. Many of the old books written on the demons were from Christians, whom the demons will detest anyway. Personally, I think they should have stuck with summoning angels, and left the demons alone.

I think that ultimately whatever experiences we have is purely subjective. I also believe that religious background does have a very important part to play in how we experience a spirit or demon. I have been practicing the LHP off late (I got initiated a couple of months ago). Now, a person brought up as a Christian or Wiccan may have been brought up with the belief that the "goetic demons" are to be feared. So, it could be possible that when they encounter a demon such as Zuzu/Pazuzu, their natural feeling is that of wariness. However, for a black magician or a LHP practitioner who has no background in Christianity, s/he may perceive the demon to be friendly. I think the relationship with the demon will also vary accordingly.

To give you an example, I recently had an experience with what I can term only as Lucifer. I wish to believe that it was truly him who came in my dream. But he was nothing like the Christian devil or Satan. But his aura was that of an eastern civilization god, more of Vishnu or Enki. The warmth he exuded was truly that of a god. So, I guess that the experience is indeed subjective.

ssingam - I am not thirteen years old and I know what happened to me. Any entity that comes through that makes you feel uncomfortable or haunts a home is not a high vibrational entity. You can talk to whatever entities you'd like.

Kitty, I should back up. The week prior another lost ghost came through and spelled 'help me, help me'. We asked his name and he said it was Nick Bennett. While on the board, another teammate googled up his name and a local obituary popped up. It didn't say how he died so we asked him to which he replied 'cocaine'. We told him we would try to send him to the next level but that we needed more people. During that week another team member researched Nick s story and found a newspaper article on a group of youngsters whom went to the hospital from a bad batch of drugs. All of them sick, but one of them died. Last weekend nick came through, while on the board, 7 of us began a divinity prayer asking good spirits to carry nick to the next level. The planchette went motionless. We charged the planchette again and Z came through. We asked him about Nick and he said Nick has gone to the next level to heaven. We then began a 2 hour session with Z and it was an amazing experience. Demonlogist John Zaffis (the Haunted Collector) also believes Z or Zozo is also a good deity. What I find amazing is that most if not all scary Ouija stories seem to come from 13 year old girls.

I had to post on this hub again as the entity Z communicated with us again last weekend at length. He answered a lot of questions such as his age is infinite. He told us that all of us have guardian spirits and he gave each of us the number and names of our protective spirits. I believe Z is possibly an angel. Our next session we are going to ask him to speak into our recorders or possibly manifest himself so we can see him. The last time we asked this he said no.

Matthew518 3 years ago

Regarding the 2 billion figure, I think that might be a low estimate, since some estimates are about 5 billion or more. If I recall, one of the books I have was from one of the magicians who use the standard abusive methods to summon demons, and that was the number he was given. Overall, I know the fae have a very large number, larger than demons I think, and I know there's a lot of angels out there too. Not to forget all the other spirits, the universe is vast with spirits. We humans are one small grain of sand in a large beach, compared to what else is out there.

Glad to hear you can feel your guardian. I know some people have that natural ability to feel their presence.

Matthew518 3 years ago

From everything I've read regarding children, I agree. Children usually have some psychic ability from birth, but they are influenced by their parents and society as a whole not to believe in such things as they get a little older, so they eventually lose that connection.

Regarding the advanced magician, I have read of several instances where one tried to summon a certain spirit, maybe one of the goetic demons, and didn't get anything. It's weird how easy an ouija board works, considering it's so simple to make. That's part of it's appeal, summoning a spirit doesn't take much skill or practice.

karthikkash profile image

karthikkash 3 years ago from India

Matthew518: I didn't know there were approximately 2 billion demons. That is an astounding figure. Out of curiosity, where did you find that estimate?

Regarding the demons appearing through Ouija board, I would say that it has nothing to do with the cardboard itself. Demons/spirits just need a medium to communicate. An Ouija board is simply that medium. People sufficiently advanced in occult and witchcraft are able to communicate with demons even without any mediums such as an Ouija board or a pendulum. I sometimes feel that my guardian spirit communicates with me in weird ways. Though I am not sufficiently advanced in occult yet, I can feel the presence when I ask for something minor and I am led to it in some way.

kittythedreamer profile image

kittythedreamer 3 years ago from the Ether Author

Matthew - I've never met an advanced person in the occult who couldn't summon spirits via an ouija board or other means of divination. And from my experience, it's quite easy to talk to spirits...it's just that most people don't believe or try. Those who do believe can make contact easily, and the children who use these methods as a "game" already have a belief in the spiritual world and so are also able to make contact easily. I've always felt that children are much more open to these things...they haven't been jaded by society etc. like most adults have. Just my thoughts. :)

Matthew518 3 years ago

People seem to like to blame powerful demons. Estimates are that there are at least a couple billion demons in existence. If this was a demon, which is a big if, it's very likely a less powerful one. It's also not likely Pazuzu either. It's probably one that you'll never read about in a book.

I was also curious, what causes so many spirits to have a fascination with the board? Aren't most boards simply cardboard? Advanced magicians sometimes fail to summon a specific spirit, but yet any normal person can get a spirit through a board? I've always wondered how that is.

kittythedreamer profile image

kittythedreamer 3 years ago from the Ether Author

I don't believe it was Beelzebub, myself. That is just something that others speculate. I'm more inclined to think it's just a lower vibrational being that likes to prey on the energy of some unsuspecting teenager. Thanks for reading!

Matthew518 3 years ago

karthikkash, I'm glad you mentioned spiritual satanism. I've studied it a bit too, the JOS Ministries. I don't consider myself a satanist, but certainly relate more to that religion to any other modern one. As such, I have a very different view on demons than the norm, and don't in any way consider them "evil". I think they're just misunderstood. Dark and evil have nothing to do with each other. If you've done a little research on demons, many of them are indeed the old gods, worshiped before Christianity came on the scene. I view demons the way I do humans, some are good, some are in the middle, some are bad, with most being a mixture of good and bad. Most humans are that way too.

Matthew518 3 years ago

A few comments. First off, I've heard a theory that only lesser spirits use the board. This does not include demons, but lesser spirits like ghosts. I will state, there are a lot of darker spirits out there other than demons, many of the cases might involve one of the other spirits that are in no form demonic.

You said this "demon" might be Beelzebub? I guess if we can blame him, people will. I think Beelzebub has more important things to do than bother humans. It's very unlikely a powerful spirit would come through, and if it did, I don't think you'd be here now.

Lastly, the problem with the board is that children generally are the ones using it. I think the comments on this hub prove that. They shouldn't market it for children. Regarding responsible adults, I don't think they'll have any problems. But children are another story. If you are a child, it's best to leave the board alone, about the same as playing in the street. Kids take the board as a game, which is where the problems start.

I have communicated with the spirit Z. I do not think he is a demon. In fact he answered our questions regarding how he sees us in this realm. I have a custom Ouija with 15 watt amp and speaker and built in emf meter. If you are getting messages that are garbled and nonsensical it is because your thoughts and emotions are being mixed with spirit messages. Clear your mind and try again.

boxylein33 3 years ago

hello. I had a somewhat and much more scary experience with the demon z. I call him a demon because that is what he was. I was a teenager and and also made my Ouija board out of cardboard . I could not believe that after all these years I have found someone whose experience is similar to mine. I just started researching because all these years have gone by and for a longtime I had no internet access and when I finally did around 2003 2004 I have been to scared to even bring it all up again. it is amazing all the people who have had experiences with the demon z. it is a very scary thing the Ouija board and should not be used lightly. I myself will never look at or touch one again.

Hi Karthikkash, now that is fascinating about 'spiritual satanists' - I haven't heard of these guys before and much of what you said does make sense. Going from my own studies of the Kabbalah, this seems to teach the same kind of belief, in that of a duality in all things - light/dark, good/evil and so on. Certainly one of my Kabbalah tutors, did say that the 'demons' he feels he may have encountered - he didn't go into details but from what I can gather it was a very nasty experience - were nameless as he calls them and made a distinction between them and the old gods. He also felt that the mass thought forms created by humans, allows these un-named dark entities/demons to put some form of consciousness into them. Just to add that his experiences with 'demons' was when he was a kid and his whole family had a terrible time at some house or other they had rented.

Seeker7: Thanks a lot for that :) As I have recently got into magick, I have been studying a bit of spirits, witchcraft and demonology (I am not a sorcerer yet :D). As such, I keep interacting with different people who practice witchcraft. There is one section of people who call themselves "spiritual satanists". Now, they hate to be called devil worshipers because they are not. Their claim is that (I guess Aleister Crowley too believed this) Satan is not evil but he was the main god of the ancients. And his demons too are not evil, but they were gods of the ancient civilizations such as Sumer, India and Egypt. Of course, they were far more powerful (who they are is a different discussion) than humans as they were not really humans. They were not evil but they were both benevolent and malevolent depending on the situation.

Of course, with newer religions coming in around the 1 AD and newer teachings, the entire concept of gods and demons changed. They claim that the pagan gods were termed evil by the Bible and the church, and were reduced to demons and evil. With the spread of these religions all over the world for 2,000 years, new thoughts kicked in and as you said the thought forms changed. It is quite possible that a person brought up in that thought process coupled with heard experiences and fear of unknown may see something horrifying or "Evil" when he/she sees something supernatural.

Having said that, they do believe that there are evil demons and earth bound spirits that do intend to cause harm, but these has nothing to do with "Satanic" demons.

seeker7: Thanks a lot for that :) Since I have recently ventured into magick and doing some studying about occult and witchcraft. I have been interacting with certain people who call themselves "spiritual satanists". According to them and probably even Aleister Crowley, most of these demons were indeed gods of the old world (Sumer, India and Egypt). Naturally, people in those periods respected as well as feared beings far more powerful than us.

This necessarily doesn't mean that these gods were evil. They were just beings who had both a benevolent as well as a malevolent side depending on the situation (nature is not evil because we have natural disasters). Of course, then they were termed pure evil by most modern religions. Probably it was just a way how "god" and "evil" portrayed. And as you said, centuries of ignorance, thought processes mixed together coupled with fear and witnesses of some powerful existence may just give rise to evil "demons".

Just adding on to my comment Kitty, I looked at the link on wordpress given by Karthikkash - this was really interesting and shows Pazuzu in a better light. PS - thank you Karthikkash for this link.

I wonder then if, going with occult theories, that many of the old 'good' gods who were demonised in later ages are now actually mass thought forms that take shape in the astral? This would make sense if Pazuzu for example in the first instance was benign, but then due to thousands of years of negative thinking and fear focused on this deity, like others, it has created, what Dione Fortune terms 'monstress' thought forms that have taken shape on the lower planes, that have evolved through the negative thinking of humans.

In addition, once these 'thought forms' have taken shape, then other entities/astrals can actually put some form of consiousness into the form. It gets more complicated, so I'll leave it there for now, but it seems to be an interesting concept and one that would explain much.

Hi Kitty, all I can say is 'wow' and 'yikes'!!! There's not a lot that does scare me paranormally wise, but demons are the huge exception! I find it quite disturbing - but like you fascinating - that an entity, who might be a demon using 'z''s for names is coming through the ouija board - and yes the phenomena does seem to be growing. The paranormal researcher and demonologist John Zaffis has been looking into this for some time now and many of the accounts he has come up with, are like your own experience, very frightening.

It would be interesting to find out if these experiences with 'Z''s are happening exclusively in the USA or if they are further afield?

For me personally, the fact that this demon might be or related to 'Pazuzu' scares the absolute crap out of me ever since seeing the movie 'The Exorcist'! If my memory serves me right, he is the God of wind but I think he is also referred to as a demon of pestilence and disease - the reason the little girl's face in the movie was so broken down I would guess! I haven't used a ouija board since I was in my teens and won't use one again. Nothing happened to me personally, two of the guys who were with us were badly frightened by experiences that happened afterwards and one of them was even followed to work by a spirit/entity.

Anyway, sorry for rattling on as per usual, but your hubs are always excellent and give much food for thought. Your video presentation was also excellent, very professional and fascinating! Voted up + shared.

Alastar: Can't really say many things unless one has done a complete research and had some experience. In fact, if we look at it, some "demons" of Christianity were actually just the pagan gods the Church termed evil and coined blasphemous. For example, Baphomet who is depicted as devil was actually a good of knowledge and prosperity for a Greek tribe far earlier than Christianity. It is the same with many gods. Of course, our ancestors did pray to many malevolent gods (who didn't hold back from unleashing hell's wrath), but these gods were also considered gods of protection when the time came.

Kepitz - Sorry I had missed your comment initially. As for pendulum dowsing, yes it is quite similar to the ouija board; however, I believe more negative energy has built up with the ouija boards then with pendulum boards and dowsing. BUT, that being said....any type of negative entity can come through with ANY type of divination...including using a pendulum. Weirdly enough, I just used mine last night...what I do is to make sure I erect a protective circle of light around myself before using it. All I do is visualize a circle of white light around me and I say to myself (or out loud) that only positive energy can enter the circle and talk through the pendulum to me. Specifically I use the pendulum to get yes/no answers from my spirit guides. Thanks for reading!

That's right Kitty. As a matter of fact the 4th Led Zep album is referred to as ZoZo. It's the one where if you hold the original album open, and place the side with the wizard on the hill against a mirror, well, let's just say something horrific jumps out at your vision in a 3-D way. You may remember that early piece I wrote about what may have been my experience with Pazuzu and I'd sure appreciate the link to your friend's story. Pazuzu was most feared by the Assyrian- Babylonian civilizations and appears to still get around a lot even up until today in different fashions. Makes sense it being the demon for one thing of storms.

Very interesting with your ouija board experience, Kitty. This Z demon or Zozo ( which was or is Rocker Jimmy Page's sigil) is absolutely nothing to full around with as I can attest from a possible personal encounter with this very evil entity. He wasn't in the Exorcist for nothing and was called by the Assyrian-Babylonians "Pazuzu." If indeed it's the same demon of course.

I've just started looking into pendulum dowsing, and it occurs to me that the pendulum charts are just like the Ouija board. Ouija is another method of dowsing from what I've read so far. My question is this: Does pendulum dowsing also have the potential to allow negative spirit or demon entities cross into our world? I read that you have to "program" your pendulum, and one step is you have to tell it that only good, light energy is to be allowed to speak through the pendulum. I did all that, but I'm still a bit wary of going any further. Any advice?

P.S. Great article! Thanks for writing it!

Great informative article. I have never owned a ouija board and do not plan to. Have often been warned that they are bad news and those who use them often have unfavorable spirits follow them around after a session.

Since seeing "The Excorcist," in which that "Pazuzu" makes an experience, I decided that such an activity would not be wise. Now that my father has passed away, I like to stay VERY clear of them!

Recently, the morning after a church sleepover, a friend set up a home-made ouija board (on a Sunday morning) and another friend's mother came to say "hi" to her. That was a good experience. I was somewhat alarmed and was not sure I wanted to call any spirits to me....and I think that I will stay away from them.

Interesting read Kitty. I have read a lot about how bad the Ouija board is. I have also heard about them opening up the portals for the deceased to enter this world. Frankly, I have absolutely no idea what is true. Well, mostly I have heard are the negative things of an Ouija board.

I did have a chance to use a planchette and an Ouija board when I was a teenager, but for some reason, didn't find the time of using it. As I am increasingly getting more involved in the spiritual world (getting more into Kundalini yoga and witchcraft), I find it increasingly intriguing. Considering that I am usually a person who wants to play with fire at least once (just for the experience), I may use it sometime.

But of course, considering the negative feedback, I may not do it immediately. That would be "dabbling" with the unknown. I may try it when I am at an advanced level when I can handle these "spirits" and "demons".

Most people who try the Ouija board don't have any kind of good reason to do so and have little experience with psi phenomena. I mean, you wouldn't give a ten year old a chain saw and say, "have a good time!" so a Ouija board maybe isn't a great idea either. That said, they have never scared me. Maybe they should, but they don't. Demons get you to destroy yourself, that's their deal. Think good thoughts in all you do and all good things will come to you! lol! Seriously. Great hub!

I bought my first Ouiji Board at a very young age (I think I was 10 or so), it was a board I bought when Ames was closing and I found it in the game board section (one of the glow in the dark boards). I played it alone a few times and never had negative experience (nothing happened at all). When I turned 13 I had friends over almost every weekend and we always pulled it out at night, and it was all fun and games, since my friends were the ones moving it to scare each other. There was one night that I do remember though. We pulled out the board and wanted to see if it would work for real so we all promised we wouldn't move it (so we all put our finger tips over it without touching it), it was very dark and storming outside, and my mother was out for the night. We lit candles and shut the lights off and began to use the board, when it began to move we all jumped a bit, but we continued to ask questions, nothing made sense. All of a sudden I had this strange sensation over me, and all my friends screamed, my hair was sticking straight up (like it does when you rub a balloon on your head) and the lights flickered and the candles went out due to a small breeze in the house (the windows were closed). We immediately said goodbye, and that was the last time I used the board.

Threats from dead people are something I don't need! The living are annoying enough. Incidentally, that family member is now deceased. I wonder how its going.

Interesting history regarding the origins of the Ouija board and interesting first hand stories. I am very curious of the spiritual world, and spent some time working with mediums to contact dead relatives a while back. Luckily, in this Internet era, I was able to research the Ouija board and learned quickly that they are too dangerous to mess with.

Were you ever able to confirm that your one of your loved one's long-passed relatives actually came through? It would be interesting to hear more about that first hand experience.

I'm a witch, albeit a fairly "new" one, and this is just one of those things I stay far, far away from. You're so right about the fact that these boards are NOT games or playthings. It sickens me to see them so easily accessible to children and others in the mundane world who have no idea how to protect themselves.

It's best not to do it at all, IMO, for all the reasons you mentioned, but to do it without casting a protective circle first is just asking for a haunting - not from a friendly ghost, either. I've heard everything from supposedly destroyed or abandoned boards inexplicably showing up again to encounters with spirits even more aggressive than the one you described. Thank you for sharing this important information as well as your own experience!! Voted up!

Hi kitty, its really weird with me and the Ouija board, I always think to myself that's its all hokum but then I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole as we say over here! lol! that story about z was amazing, and just goes to show that something is going on. I would hate to use one then have to go to bed! great read just before my bedtime.....! lol! voted up! nell

Good morning.

We had one when I was young and had nothing but trouble.

Stay clear of them. They are demonic.

It is great you wrote this informative article to warn others.

May God bless you with time spent enjoying His word rather than wasting away with the devil and his toys.
