Godly wisdom teaches you there is no need to manipulate, but to trust God! You become conscious that God is totally aware of both the seen and unseen! This is a supreme book of wisdom! When one reads them over and over you will discover that the Word of God is “Alive” each time you will learn something more! There is nothing else like the Word of God! It is very helpful and recommended in order to discipline yourself, to read a Proverb each day. The Proverbs continuously presents examples contrasting the righteous and the wicked. They contain general truths demonstrating that living your life for the Lord is far better.

Proverbial Lesson Highlights

~ Proverbs 10 ~

Here is where the Proverbs really begin. They cover a vast subject matter. These short contrasting couplets are packed with much wisdom. A wealth of godly wisdom for living a dedicated Christian lifestyle each and everyday! A son that is wise brings much joy to his father. But a foolish son grief to his mother.” Notice the contrast between “wisdom & Joy” contrasted to “foolishness & grief!”

The Hebrew Word for Proverbs is Mashal it means; comparison, similar, parallel. We learned earlier that Hokhmah means; skill in living wisely! There are thirty one (31) Proverbs! Proverbs ten through fifteen (10-15) contrast right and wrong! Solomon the wise father wants his children to benefit from what he has learned. He also encourages us to pursue the superior path of wisdom as early as possible. The path of wisdom is where one learns the ongoing process of discipline! As children of God we are disciples of Jesus Christ. Disciples are learners. We are continually being shaped and molded by the Master Potter! Discipline and obedience are a part of the process. Wisdom is preferred over folly.

Wherever you are in life it is never too late to begin to apply wisdom! The Word of God is our Life Manual! It is here you will discover a wealth of invaluable wisdom! King Solomon was a King who had it all. According to the Bible He is the wisest man to ever live. Solomon asked the Lord for a discerning heart so he could wisely rule the people. Solomon knew the importance of discernment. This pleased the Lord. Listen attentively to this remarkable passage of Scripture! So, “The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked for riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked; both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings of your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statues and My commandments, as your father David walked then I will lengthen your days…” I Kings 3

Solomon was internationally known for his wisdom! Many came from all over the world to consult with him. King David, his father collected a wealth of provisions for Solomon. From them he built a most magnificent Temple in Jerusalem, grand palace and many other extravagant palatial structures! However Solomon in all of his grand splendor still struggled. He slowly eased back from applying his GOD given wisdom to his own life. He began to allow his foreign women to influence him… This is why it is so important that we adhere to the Word of God. Each day spend time in the Word! Not in a rigid legalistic fashion. You want to develop a strong, loving intimate relationship with the Lord. True success is only found in Him! Know in your heart that God knows what is best for us! He loves us and does not want us to live a life a folly. He wants us to embrace His wisdom and live an abundant life in every way!

Today many live for the world and God is secondary. Quite often they visit a place of worship on Sunday and go right back to living however they choose during the week. Then there are those who do not believe in God at all. Think about King Solomon who had anything that you could possibly ever want. He did not find happiness in his possesions! It was his relationship with the Lord that mattered most! God asks us to be loyal to Him, obey Him and embrace His principles. The world tells us; “go for it!” and “do your own thing!” The world cannot give you what God can! Wisdom is a special gift from God! It bestows upon us the ability to perceive situations and people on a deeper spiritual level. Discernment helps us to see clearer the path to the Lord’s will and Way! God has a plan for each of our lives. In these wonderful Proverbs Solomon shares with us a plethora of spiritual nuggets that will help us along the way! Wisdom is only effective when it is put to proper use!

We learned earlier that He had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines. It is from his vast and varied experiences he shares with us! Life today is very complicated there are so many choices? But how do we make better choices? We can learn from Solomon that having wisdom does not mean one will always make the right decisions. It is important to keep in mind that God wants to be a part of all of our lives. Our family and private life should be a reflection of His principles as well. Our marriages and family life should be guided by His principles. When we pray we should ask for the Lord’s will to be done in our lives.

There are many contrasting couplets used to illustrate the difference between wisdom and folly! Such as; “Blessings crown the head of the righteous: but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.” Please take time and go through each verse of this Proverb. It is good to read through the Proverb then go back and slowly digest each verse slowly. This way you can learn and glean from its contents the intended lesson. You should actually make a mental note as you go through each one to see the contrast between Wisdom and folly!

The wonderful thing about the Lord is He knows right where you are! As a believer you have His Holy Spirit, the Comforter and Teacher. Ask the Lord to open your understanding to help you better comprehend what you do not understand and to fill you with His Spirit. If you are not a believer you can always invite ther Lord into your life! Simply and sincerely, confess your sins. Ask Jesus Christ into your heart and accept Him as your Lord and Savior! Each time you spend time in His Word you will learn something new or what you have already learned will be reinforced! As you study and apply His Word you will become wiser and begin to see a change in your life. The Word of God is powerful! It is so amazing! This is why spending time in the Word is so important! Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow spiritually!

Proverbs 10 teaches us about integrity, wealth, righteousness, lying, wickedness, wisdom and blessings. Discipline is key! Righteousness is the way of the Lord! When you are slandered or lied on just know that God knows the Truth! Don’t reject God’s way to be accepted! Don’t let others distract you from living for the Lord! Remember Solomon’s wise counsel. We do not have to wander aimlessly through life! He wants to help keep us from making some of the same mistakes he made without going through the experience! Don’t let others lead you astray from what you know to be right! Fill your heart and mind with the things of God!But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6.

Proverbs 10 concludes by telling us: “The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out. The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.”

DeBorrah, while there are many golden nuggets throughout God's Word, I as well seem to be drawn back into Proverbs especially when confronted by a situation in my own life or the life of another. It may not be wise at all for me to come off the cuff sometimes because my own personal perspective, like that of many, is shaped by my past and the answer I give will more than likely do more harm than good.

So, I hit Proverbs and inevitably, that is where I find the answer. Thanks!!

What delicious spiritual food for me to digest this beautiful Lord's day He has blessed me to experience.

"As you study and apply His Word you will become wiser and begin to see a change in your life. The Word of God is powerful! It is so amazing! This is why spending time in the Word is so important! Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow!" AMEN!

I can testify to this truth. Each time I read a familiar passage, the Spirit reveals something new and exciting that result in my spiritual growth. I love His WORD even when it cuts me as a two edged sword. All glory to God!!

Thanks Deborah for feeding my soul,

Forever His,

I am enjoying the Proverbs Series... I love Solomon but still wonder how he managed to have 700 Wives.

It is amazing what you noted "the Word of God is “Alive” each time you will learn something more!" and I'm glad you encouraged us to ask God to open our eyes of understanding.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Best Wishes. :)

DeBorrah, you are so correct about wisdom being about acting in accord with ones faith, and it is not about being shrewd or clever. I think, even if we look at the example of Joseph in his early years, he was honest and upfront with his wisdom and talent and it got him in trouble with his brothers. Later, his devotion and honesty again got him landed in prison, but in the end, Pharoah saw his willingness to always be truthful despite the repurcussions, humble despite being right, and rewarded him unlike anything he could have probably ever imagined. Discipline reinforces integrity, and integrity emboldens patience. Peace.

Lady E, I am glad that you are enjoying this series on the Proverbs! It is an awe-inspiring book of wisdom! Solomon sealed a pack with Egypt by marrying the Pharaoh’s daughter this began his plunge into multiple marriages. He then begins to marry many more foreign wives to seal foreign agreements that took him further away from his principles...

What makes the Word so powerful is that it is Alive! Yes! It is so amazing when the Lord opens your understanding…

Thank you for stopping by and sharing, much love & Blessings!

A M Werner, Thank you, the life of Joseph is an excellent example! Through all Joseph went through the Lord was with Him! His brothers were jealous of Joseph... What they meant for evil God meant for good! "Discipline reinforces integrity, and integrity emboldens patience." Amen! It really does help to know that God does know the Truth!

Thank you for sharing, In His Love & Blessings!

Hope you have a wonderful sunny day as where i am sitting now I hear the birds' singing their songs and the sun is shining and there's a slight cool breeze coming through the slightly opened windows of my little house.

You nailed it sister. The Bible is alive. I read the Bible cover to cover every four months. Each time I discover things I have never seen before. I read a Proverb much more often and there is never a time I don't get an insight or see something that I need for that particular time. It is alive. The Spirit inhabits the words and makes them spring out at the reader. He knows what we need and He enhances those words or clarifies something or grants an answer to a problem or question. My daddy told me that "the Bible is an eternal book. You can't exhaust it Baby." yeah, he calls me his baby, me, 57 year old me. Anyway, dad is right. Voted up and awesome.
