~ Proverbs 16 The Goldmine Of Spiritual Wisdom ~
The Book of Proverbs is an excellent standard of Divine Truth! They are a collection of timeless, short, wise, prudent, pithy saying. These judicious words of wisdom are from the “Court” of King Solomon. The Proverbs, contain poetry, prose, couplets as well as godly principles for instruction in righteous living!
Proverbs is a book about learning how to live wisely. King Solomon audaciously shares his plethora of life lessons learned from his plenteous life and multitude of experiences! We have learned much in this continuing series on the Proverbs. Solomon was the richest and wisest man to ever live. From here we can ascertain the significance of his wise wisdom he candidly shares will all of us! He points the way to God and compares and contrast the pitfalls of folly! There is an excitement and gregarious, enthusiasm Solomon has for life! So much so that he wants those who come after Him to be successful at some of the very things he failed to do. Here is a treasure of spiritual wisdom that will immensely enhance and enrich both your spiritual and private life, when one takes heed!
Proverbs truly is a phenomenal book of Wisdom! Each time I read it I am amazed at the endless Goldmine of “Spiritual Nuggets” it contains! The more you mine and extract its contents additional nuggets are revealed and begin to rise to the surface! It is known as a book of philosophical maxims done in poetic form on a plethora of subjects! Only God could inspire something so powerful and cavernously deep! We are but a mere open book to Him! He knows all about each one of us! He knew then what would be now! He is Omniscient!
King Solomon ruled the nation of Israel well, they were God’s chosen people. He handled great pressures in running the kingdom yet in his personal life it was a very different story. Solomon went against what he knew to be right and married many foreign women which resulted in pulling him away compromising his godly principles.
King David, Solomon’s father stressed to him the importance of following God’s principles! It was important that God be the center of His life! The duties and responsibilities of a king are very complex! Key men from his father’s regime opposed him. Solomon also received opposition from his siblings. Adonijah, his brother early on tried to usurp his authority and take the kingdom from him. Unfortunately Solomon had to eventually order Adonijah’s execution along with others… I Kings 2.
The Lord gave Solomon a wise and discerning heart but he did not always listen. This shows us we always have the responsibility of choosing God’s way or the way of the world. Family is the first institution that our Father, God ordained. Strong principled families make a nation strong! Embracing godly principles in raising a family will help build a “solid rock” foundation! After God your family should be a top priority! Solomon gives us a strong argumentative example as to what happens when godly principles are laid aside. Today we can greatly benefit and hopefully make better life choices! It is never too late to change one’s direction. The Lord is always patiently waiting for us to reach to Him and seek His will and His way!

Proverbial Lesson Highlights!
It is better whatever we are planning to include the Lord if we want His Will done in our lives. We can make plans but if they do not include the Lord one never really knows how they will turn out? We should first ask for His guidance and then step out on Faith and trust Him to see you through. “To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue.
You can plan ever so much and things still might not go your way! But, when we include God in our plans they will eventually work out at some point! “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed!” We can fully Trust God and His Word! True ministry goes beyond the walls! Praise God!
In our little finite minds we will never fully understand God and His infinite power. No matter how much wisdom we acquire we will always need Him. His Holy Spirit is what helps us to navigate around and through the many pitfalls and landmines that the enemy tries to put in our path. Discernment can help us avoid much evil. God never tempts us! “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil…” When trials and test come in life we are to Trust God! God will use the evil and its bad intentions toward us for Good! “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.”
Pleasing The Lord
It would be nice if we all could always get along. Most of us would prefer it if we were liked. But this is not always the case. We must never compromise godly principles in order to be accepted. There are times when we must stand alone, or be in the minority. However when we are standing on His Word He stands with us! I THANK GOD for a dedicated spouse who loves the Lord and loves me! "And the two shall be one flesh" Praise God! Living life God's way is not always popular. We are to look to God’s approval over that of man! "Some things will not be understood until we get to the other side of Heaven" Jesus Christ is our example! He was rejected and despised by many. The religious leaders mistreated Him as well. Although they resented Him they could not carry out their plans to destroy Him until the appointed time… God calls us to be peacemakers! When we do this even our enemies cannot harm us! When we Praise the Lord they will get confused? We "overcome evil with good." This pleases God! “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.”
God is a Spirit of Truth! We please Him when we are truthful! There are times when we must be silent and know that the Lord knows and understands. God wants us to be honest in all areas of our lives! Scales were used in measuring goods during this time. It was important that the pans of the scales were properly weighted in order to get the proper weight. “Honest scales and balances are from the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of His making." We must ask the Lord for discernment and embrace truth and integrity!
Here in the Proverbs is a “Goldmine of Spiritual Wisdom! It is important as you read through these wise words, that you take your time in order to absorb its contents! There is a plethora of wisdom to help you live a rich, full happy life! As we live by the Word of God it cleanses us from the inside out! As we draw closer to the Lord He draws closer to us and we learn to Trust Him! “Whoever gives heed to instructions prospers, and blessed is he who trust the Lord.”
Discernment Is Important!
“The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instructions.” We cannot understand God without His Holy Spirit! Unbelievers will not readily accept the things of God. When we witness to others we must ask for the Holy Spirit to lead us! It is important to know you cannot manipulate the Holy Spirit. God never tempts us to do anything! The things of God are often perceived as silly to unbelievers and some immature Christians as well! As believers we access His power but we never become the power! “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” I Corinthians 2
Fountain of Youth
“Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, but folly brings punishment to fools.” Many are looking for a fountain of youth. The truth is we all get older each day from the moment we are born! The fountain of youth is a fantasy! Studying the Lord’s Word and implementing His principles in our lives daily is important. I think it is important to strive to be the best you can be at whatever age you are! The Lord gives a remedy to renew our body and minds! “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12.
“There is a fountain, filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s vein…” This is a phrase from a popular Hymn! In it is much Truth! There is a spiritual fountain that is available when we commit our lives to the Lord! There is power in the blood of Jesus! The choice is yours?
Do You Know The Way?
Jesus is the only way to the Father! He is the only way to heaven. You cannot get around Him if you want to make heaven your eternal home! “Thomas said to Him. “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way the TRUTH and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well…” John 14. A lot of people will argue that this is not so! It is not necessary to argue a point when you know it is true! The narrow road leads to the Lord! The wide road is the road that the world travels. It is also the road many Christians take a detour on. We must always remain prayerful, each and everyday we must seek the Lord’s path for us; “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”
Gossip is dangerous and many lives have been damaged by it! Talebearers love to pass along information. I was taught always consider the source? You can easily squish gossip by not passing it on. Gossips are not to be trusted. They only add fuel to the fire. Refusing to listen will force the fire to burn out! Many friendships have been destroyed by gossip! Confronting the parties involved together will help to facilitate healing! This is called “Redemptive Confrontation!” Do not be so ready to make assumptions? Or when you do readily dismiss them when you discover they are not true! Commit to say what you know to be true! Self control is a virtue, learn to exercise wisdom and discernment! “A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.
Learning how to control our tongue and our temper are crucial in living a spirit filled life! James 1, shares with us the benefits of controlling the tongue! As we employ the Fruit of His Spirit in our lives daily we grow stronger spiritually! We grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! It is important to seek to live for “An audience of One!” God is everywhere we are! He is Omnipresent! He loves us and promises to give us His PEACE in the midst of a storm!
Reading a Proverb each day will refresh in your mind “What God has to say.” It will increase your wisdom and sharpen your discernment! It will help you to embrace God’s Way and live a more satisfying, rewarding, peaceful & Joyful life regardless of what is happening! You cannot change anything that has happened. But you can go on from here, knowing the God "willnever leave nor forsake you!" Look to Him the Author and Finisher of your FAITH! Proverbs will help you make better life decisions!
PROVERBS 16 concludes by telling us: “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city. “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”
