~ Proverbs 22 The Goldmine Of ~ Spiritual Wisdom ~

The Proverbs is a spectacular awe-inspiring goldmine of biblical theology. They ostentatiously remind God’s people to call upon the Lord and seek out His direction. They educate us how to live life as our Creator originally intended! Herein is the very wisdom that helped King Solomon sustain his wealth, obtain honor, fame and courageously lead God’s people. This book is to instruct us in wisdom and point us to the path of discernment. Understanding the Word of God is what eventually matures into spiritual discernment!

The wisdom found in the Proverbs was predominantly made famous by King Solomon. They were not actually compiled until long after his death during the reign of King Hezekiah! They are wonderfully comprised of both simple and wise statements and illustrations to teach us the fundamental principles of life. Here showcased within their pages is timeless Divine Truth.

The Old Testament marvelously consists of thirty nine Books! Genesis through Deuteronomy is considered to be the books of law. The history is found in Joshua through Esther. The remarkable society of prophets starts with Isaiah through Malachi. The wisdom literature in the Old Testament consists of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. Throughout the Bible you will discover the wisdom displayed in the Proverbs! It is recommended that one takes the time to read and ponder a Proverbs each day!

The “heart” is our central point of reasoning, yet it also includes, emotion, will and our innermost being. One must sincerely desire to know and embrace the Word of God in order to grow spiritually. The Proverbs are pithy sayings that are inclusive of deep spiritual insight that comes from King Solomon’s genuine authentic experiences. Solomon being the wisest man to ever live teaches us that no matter how much we think we know; there is so much more to learn. We in our little finite minds can never fully comprehend or assimilate the wisdom of an infinite almighty God! As His children like it or not, we are forever dependent on Him.

What an awesome God to leave us a Comforter, His Holy Spirit to teach us and open our understanding! The Proverbs focuses on God, His character, how we are to live, and the consequences of living apart from Him and “doing your own thing!” This applies to everyone! He can use a little child, a donkey, a raven, a dove, a young person, a middle aged person or simply someone who is considered old! In His eyes we are all children! Never underestimate God; He can use whosoever He chooses!

King Solomon was warned to not let his wives turn him from the heart of God. We can glean many invaluable life lessons from here! Here is where we can see his “weak spot.” What was unfortunate He allowed this to happen anyway and this became his area of compromise. He handled valiantly his duties as king. But faltered greatly in disciplining his flesh! One can hardly mention Solomon without mentioning his harem of wives and concubines! Be careful who you join yourself together with…This is what ultimately led him down the path to idolatrous worship.

This is what the Word says: “King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides the Pharaoh’s daughter –Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must NOT intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods. Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives lead him astray. As Solomon grew old his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God as the heart of David his father had been…” I Kings 11. It is very important that your spouse share your love for the Lord! We can learn a lot from King Solomon!

The Proverbs are rich and prosperous with Spiritual Treasure! As believers it is important to know that the world is not going to readily accept you nor appreciate your heartfelt desire to live to please the Lord. A great deal of the ways of the world has entered into God’s Church! It is so important to know the Lord and develop an ongoing relationship with Him in order to appropriately discern the times! Know who you are in Jesus Christ! Because of Jesus you can be all you were created to be, as well as become whole through Him!

“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my Joy within them. I have given them Your WORD and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world! My prayer is not to take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. SANCTIFY them by Your TRUTH; your Word is TRUTH.” John 17.

Proverbs often compares the lifestyles of the righteous and the wicked. The world is a constant spiritual battleground. As soon as we admit that life is difficult it becomes easier! Living a joyful life and rising above any given circumstance is possible with the Lord! There is power in the Word of God! Sanctification means we are set free, cleansed and made holy through believing in God and obeying His Word! Know that Jesus loves you! He wants us to better understand His will and way! The Proverbs are here to help us navigate properly through the maze and prepare us for life God’s way! God so graciously allows us to choose. Reading a Proverbs each day applying and implementing its wisdom will give you deeper spiritual insight!

Proverbial Lesson Highlights

A Good Name is Invaluable!

In ancient times your name was an expression of your character. When a name was changed it meant that there was usually a change in character. A name could also be a reminder of a place or an important person, relative or an event. A good name is admirable in the eyes of the Lord. No matter what people say or do; your reputation is always safe with HIM!

Great example; Emmanuel, Jesus Christ, Savior all tells us something; they are all His names exuding godly authority! EMMANUEL means "GOD with us!" “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.” Philippians 2. There is power in the name of Jesus! Christ died for us so we could have the gift of eternal life! It is not easy being a Christian but through Jesus Christ you can obtainThe peace that surpasses the understanding of man.” If you want to be known for something let it be for loving the Lord and standing on His Word! “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving Favor than silver and gold.”

Humility

Humility is an admirable quality. There are times when we are required to give up some things, admit when we are wrong and be open to godly advice. We should never be so inflexible that we cannot humble ourselves. Humility means at time taking a back seat. Humility means at times others will misunderstand you! Humility means sometimes we have to wait, while we are waiting we acquire patience. We must resist responding hastily and learn to trust God!

Remember, God sees us as children no matter what the age. This also serves to let us know that there is always more to learn. It is wisdom that helps us fear the Lord and encourages us to develop healthy boundaries that keep us safe and disciplined. Although it does not always protect us from trouble we can be assured that “God will never leave nor forsake us! ” We must pray for spiritual discernment to help us better navigate through the ongoing spiritual warfare. HIS HOLY SPIRIT dwells within us readily available to lead, guide, teach, direct, protect & comfort us! .As we develop an up close personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ we better realize that the ultimate purpose in our life is to seek the Lord above all else! “By humility and the fear of the LORD; Are riches and honor and life.

Raising Children

The Bible emphasizes the importance of raising children. Raising children has to be one of the hardest yet most rewarding responsibilities one can ever have. Children don’t belong to us; you as a parent, grandparent, relative , caretaker, or guardian have been entrusted the tremendous responsibility of bringing up the child. You are then able to play an important role in molding their character. Each child has their own unique temperament! Some children are very strong willed. Some are unyielding and stubborn! Although they can be demanding it is still necessary to give them boundaries. Consistency is important with children. When raised properly with love and affection, protected, taught respect for others and themselves, held accountable for their actions and chastised when they misbehave this all helps them to learn discipline and become responsible.

The Word of God is true. It says when a child is raised properly those invaluable teachings will hold fast! It will stand the test of time. One should keep in mind that each child is different. They require different and varying levels of attention and interaction. Being sensitive to their individual uniqueness an encouraging them to be the best they can be takes time! Although it requires sacrifice it is well worth the rewarding results! “To train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Sharing with Others

The Lord is aware of all we do or do not do and why? When we give to others it does not go unnoticed by Him. Giving is not always just monetary! Time, resources, care, concern are equally important! The Word tells usGod Loves a cheerful giver…” “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” I Corinthians 9.

God is totally aware of our intentions and sincere motives as well as our limitations. As you share with others in His own time God will bless you. “He who has a generous eye will be blessed. For he gives of his bread to the poor.”

Disciplining Children

No matter how well we raise our children they are going to do foolish things from, time to time. It is the natural nature of a child to venture beyond what they know to be right. This is why good parenting is so important. Children need us to model good behavior. But this still does not mean they will still always do what is right. This serves to provide them with balance and stability which makes them feel secure!

There are times when you will have to exercise your parental restrictions. The rod represents correction, to protect them from danger and sometimes themselves. There are times you will have to use physical restraint. The backside is the perfect padded place to tap when physical correction is warranted. Abuse of any kind physically, verbally or emotionally is NEVER acceptable. You the parent need to have good discipline yourself in order to effectively discipline your child. Never discipline when you are angry or out of control! Leave the room yourself if necessary!

It is wise to use physical correction in moderation possibly as a last result! Quite often you can talk with the child, remove him or her from the situation and or call time out! Please do not threaten a child with correction when you do not really plan to carry it out! Being consistent is important! It is imperative that they get a clear understanding between right and wrong! Then whenever you need to paddle their backside they will know that they have gone too far! Remember good correction is also always age appropriate. “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him.”

Wise Instructions

It is clear that Solomon adamantly expresses over and over the great value in exercising wisdom! He has now learned by his mistakes what not to do and has much more wisdom! We can acquire knowledge when we apply what we are learning. We gain wisdom through growing spiritually it is an ongoing life process. As we take to heart what we are learning it becomes a part of who we are. The beauty about the Lord as the Master Potter, He is able to change us from the inside out! There is always HOPE with Lord!

If you have not already surrendered to the Lord! I highly recommend that you confess and acknowledge any sin in your life. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Savior and begin to learn to trust Him! In Him you receive His precious gift of Salvation and eternal life! You also receive His Holy Spirit the Comforter! He can then begin the necessary internal lifelong reconstruction that yields a richer inner spiritual life and tremendous inner peace! “Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge; For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, So that your TRUST may be in the LORD.”

Proverbs 22 concludes by telling us: “Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set. Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.”

DeBorrah

Our preacher spoke on the topic of disciplining children and even with our adult children to be able to speak truth into their lives was a discipline that needed to remain. I can relate to the importance of this and the benefits it reaps.

Blessings and thanks for another great hub

DeBorrah,

AMEN, AMEN, Praise the Lord, "It is clear that Solomon adamantly expresses over and over the great value in exercising wisdom! He has now learned by his mistakes what not to do and has much more wisdom! We can acquire knowledge when we apply what we are learning. We gain wisdom through growing spiritually it is an ongoing life process. As we take to heart what we are learning it becomes a part of who we are. The beauty about the Lord as the Master Potter, He is able to change us from the inside out!"

One of the things that distinquishes wisdom from knowledge is the ability to see people, events, and situations as God sees them. Even a perfunctory reading of this "goldmine of spiritual wisdom" of the wise King Solomon, reveals the mind of God in matters of ordinary, everyday situations, and are as relevant today as they were some three thousand years ago.

"The Proverbs is a spectacular awe-inspiring goldmine of biblical theology. Understanding the Word of God is what eventually matures into spiritual discernment!" AMEN, AMEN,

Thank you servant of God, for keeping before us the value of wisdom and exhorting us to seek it, get it, understand it and use it. All glory to God!

Great chapter overview DeBorrah.

Forever His,

“One of the things that distinquishes wisdom from knowledge is the ability to see people, events, and situations as God sees them. I love the hub..especially what you said about no matter how well we raise our children, they will always do foolish things from time to time. So true!

It reminds me of something a Zen Master, an American, wrote.

He was talking to one of his children..a teenager and he was getting mad at something the teenager did, and the teenager told him "Look at you, a Zen master getting all bent out about nothing."

I think we all encounter these scenarios in varying degrees, as parents.

Thank you for the lovely hub.

Blessings,

DeBorrah, I believe also, this wisdom is perfect for anyone taking hold of a leadership position. When you look at Solomon being influenced by so many wives, so many yokes, you can see many of the problems in the world today. Alliances with countries all across the world have made the economy's of the world so intertwined, they affect each other on a daily basis. What happens in Japan affects us here, what happens in Greece affects us here. So many divided loyalties only cause greater confusion. And then the children of the nations are affected by the parents decision to be invested in so many different and varied areas of belief. Everything gets homogenized and there is no intrinsic truth to serve as a root and core. All discipline than becomes an act with respect of persons. We have to apply our hearts and minds to the one and only truth, the one and only way to wisdom. Humility truly does create the healthiest boundaries. Where prides touch, there is unrest and instability. Peace.

A M Werner, I agree this wisdom is quite beneficial for “leadership”! The best way to lead is by example!

“Alliances with countries all across the world have made the economy's of the world so intertwined, they affect each other on a daily basis. What happens in Japan affects us here, what happens in Greece affects us here. So many divided loyalties only cause greater confusion. And then the children of the nations are affected by the parents decision to be invested in so many different and varied areas of belief.” This is so true!

The Proverbs has a wealth of wisdom that when embraced it can make all the difference in the world. Here we have King Solomon who had it all and shares with us the consequences of not being true to what he knew what was right! Pride comes before “the fall.” It is through humility we are able to admit error and proceed to go forward seeking godly direction. Yes! “Humility truly does create the healthiest boundaries” Amen!

Thank you as always for sharing your much appreciated insight! In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Thanks - I enjoyed and learnt a lot from this Hub. It centres on raising children and it's better to use Godly wisdom than earthly wisdom. I've actually book-marked this one to refer to again. I'm sure it will help me a lot in future.

It's so hard raising kids these days. It's upsetting to see how some lovely kids get easily influenced at school or by what they see on TV.

Maybe churches should run Seminars for Teenagers every so often. If their heart is softened, it makes it easy for the parents too. I know prayer helps, but I hope you understand where I'm going.

Best Wishes. :)

Lady E, So glad this is helpful! Raising children is both rewarding and yet quite challenging! It is real important to keep the lines of communication open!

There are so many pitfalls and landmines to pull them off track! It really is important to listen to them and let them tell you how they are feeling... If you don't someone else will! Having an "open door policy" is good. Meaning they KNOW you are there for them!

I think that between the ages of twelve and eighteen are most difficult... It is a time when they are trying to discover who they are and what life is all about!

I agree! It would be great if the Church would have practical life application seminars where they could share about everyday experiences and participate by actually facilitating... I do understand where you are coming from?

I think it is great that you are gathering information now so when your time comes to be a parent you will be well prepared! I also think that you are a great role model and mentor for them...

Thank you for sharing, always so nice of you to stop by, much love, Peace & Blessings
