As one begins to apply wisdom it is increasingly evident they have learned, and know the right thing to do and do it. King Solomon was the wisest man to ever live. However here we find that he did not always exercise his God given gift of wisdom.

These wonderful Proverbs originate from various collections accumulated between the ninth and third centuries! A diverse array of admonitions, warning and couplets and two line maxims that stands the test of time! They are frequently quoted throughout the New Testament!

This is a continuing series of the thirty one Proverbs! It is highly recommended that one read a Proverbs each day! They are crucial in your quest to obtain godly wisdom! Through the numerous life experiences of King Solomon he shares this Goldmine of Spiritual Wisdom! There are over (3,000) three thousand Proverbs! Here one can discover marvelous advice to help them face and manage everyday life situations and scenarios! As well as how to conduct themselves when under extreme pressure and or stressed! Solomon experienced much turbulence in his life time. Although he was exceptional as King of Israel he floundered in his private and personal life on many occasions.

The Lord made a profound promise to Solomon as for you if you walk before me in integrity of heart and uprightness, as your father David did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said. “You shall never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel. But if you or your sons turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and reject this Temple I have consecrated for My Name…” I Kings 9. Well, they too eventually disobeyed! This is important to remember! GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES!

One resounding Truth that Solomon diligently and assiduously imparts is the importance of fearing the Lord! This was true then and is true now! Proverbs starts by telling us:The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, King of Israel: for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined life, doing what is right and just and fair; for prudence to the simple. Knowledge and discretion to the young, let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance...” Proverbs 1. When you read the Proverbs know that God has something to say about every area of life! Ask him to open your spiritual eyes and ears! Then one must astutely listen and begin to implement what you have heard! There are truly numerous nuggets to discover in this marvelous Goldmine of SPIRITUAL WISDOM!

Proverbial Lesson Highlights

The Righteous and the wicked

The Proverbs has a great deal to say about the righteous as well as the wicked. There is a distinct difference. One must be careful as to who you spend the majority of your time with and whom you receive godly counsel from! It is important to keep in mind that the wicked seek to do you harm. They live to cause trouble in the lives of the children of God. Many believers support and embrace the world and its practices over the Word of God!

We are to interact with unbelievers! We must quite often work and live side by side with them as well as worship. But, we are not supposed to imitate their ways! Nor should we use their ways of manipulation and entrapment! Don’ let their habits and behaviors become yours! One must be very discerning and not to be taken in by anyone’s deception. Instead we are to exemplify godly behavior. A good friend is honest with you as well as loyal! Today there is a real tendency to call GOOD evil and evil good… There are many wolves amidst the sheep of God! The wheat and the tares are growing together; just know in the end the Lord will separate them….! You do not have to be afraid; just aware and prayerful. “Resist the devil and he will flee…” “Do not envy wicked men, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.”

Building a Solid Godly Home Life

God is the Giver and Sustainer of life and knows what is best for us! It is wise to consult the Lord often and continuously build your marriage and family life upon the principles within His Word. There really is a difference as well as a multiplicity of spiritual benefits! How amazing! GOD is AWESOME! He knew then what would be now! He allows us the freedom to choose what type of environment we want to construct and who we decide to marry? The world is forever changing! The Word is where one can find consistent basic Christian values! “We are in the world but not of the world.” As children of God we are supposed to bepeculiar.” Others will and should wonder what makes us tick? A God centered home should be a beautiful place; one to be treasured! “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

Times of Trouble

It is during the difficult times of life we are able to build character! It is an opportunity to see personally what we are made of! It is important that one learn to become optimistic when going through. Our trust and dependence must be in God! This is what makes all the difference in the world! Instead of buckling when the pressure is on you are able to rise to the occasion. Others will be befuddled by your stamina and resilience! These are some interesting trying times for many… This economic recession has impacted everyone throughout the world in some way or another! What is so wonderful in the Lord there is always Hope! God is truly able to do exceedingly more and above anything we can ever ask! One must BELIEVE His WORD! “Be strong in the LORD and in His mighty Power!” Ephesians 6. The Proverbs teach us the same principles over and over often; using a countless myriad of examples! “If you falter in times of trouble how small is your strength!”

Building Your Household on the Rock

There are spiritual benefits when honoring the Lord and welcoming His presence within our homes! It is a sure safe, secure foundation when you build your home on godly principles. Never discount the invaluable worth of this type of household! Although “anything goes now” in the world! Not so with the Lord! There will still be some definite challenges! Know there will be much spiritual warfare to come against your household… Don’t compromise godly principles in order to be accepted! God’s will and way should always be your first priority!

We have learned that King Solomon succumbed to the lifestyles of his seven hundred royal wives and three hundred concubines. He unwittingly set aside what he knew to be right! We can learn a great lesson here! If you have chosen the difficult task of being married to an unbeliever you are still required to hold up God’s standard as a believer. "Wives in the same way be submissive to your husband so that, if any of them do not believe the Word, they may be won over withot words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence in your lives..." II Peter 3. Being submissive does not mean being a doormat! Allow the Fruit of the Spirit of the Lord to be manifest in you! You can be "strong" in the Lord and remain kind and gentle! Live out your FAITH consistently and your spouse as well as others will see Christ in you! When you honor your husband or wife you honor the LORD!

Life can be at times quite difficult! In order to withstand the times of turbulence, one must fervently embrace God’s principles for life! God is Faithful! He will see you through! For a season you must pull away from those people and things which attempt to draw you away from the Lord and meditate on His Word! Spending time with the Lord is very important! “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts into practice is like a wise man that builds his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock...” Matthew 7. When your house is built on the Lord it is on a “solid rock” foundation!

When someone tries to bring down the house of the righteous there are unseen spiritual consequences for them. Don't fret instead PRAY! In God's time it will backfire! It is during these times you as a believer must focus on Him, stand upon and ferevently embrace the WORD of GOD! The Proverbs warns against anyone trying to disrupt or divide a godly household...! It is important to know God's Word and daily depend upon the Lord for guidance through whatever trial or test life presents. Know without doubt that He will never leave nor forsake you; you can Trust Him! Listen to these encouraging words! “Do not lie in wait like an outlaw against a righteous man’s house, do not raid his dwelling place; for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again. But the wicked are brought down by calamity.”

Don't Rejoice When Others Fail

King Saul was a great ruler. But he envied David who was King Solomon’s father. God had anointed David to become Saul’s successor as king instead of one of his own sons. Saul initially took David under his wing. David was multi talented! David was favored by God! He became victorious in battle and this terribly angered King Saul. He became jealous because the people praised him for his many accomplishments!

King Saul became enraged and then pursued David with a vengeance. He even arranged a marriage with his daughter only to spite him. He also sought to kill him as well. David had to run and hide for many years! This is not God’s way! King Saul was quite seriously wounded in battle and eventually took his own life. (See I Samuel chapters 18 - 31) There were many occasions in which David could have destroyed him but he chose not to! David was grieved when King Saul died. King David was known as “A man after God’s own heart.” He also asked the Lord “To create in me a clean heart and renew the right Spirit within me...” Psalms 51. This is one of many examples. “Do not gloat when your enemy falls: when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn His wrath away from him.”

More on The Righteous and the wicked

In spite of what someone tries to do to or against us we are to respond in a manner that pleases the Lord. Sometimes one must say nothing and just not respond at all. There are times when we must take refuge away from them. We are called believers because we believe in His Word and are supposed to live to implement His Way! As you study God’s Word you can begin to see that there are alternative ways to respond to conflict and life situations. Many of these ways are not embraced by the world. Whatever you do, please do not seek wordly counsel! The Word says;

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatsoever he does prospers…” Psalms 1. God’s Word is true whether you believe it or not! It is very important to meditate on God’s Word. It also means asking yourself how to allow change and let go of the things that are not of God!

It is always important o keep in mind that there is absolutely nothing that happens in and around your life that God is not aware of! “Trust in the Lord with ALL thine heart and lean not to your own understanding in ALL your ways acknowledge HIM and HE WILL make your path straight.” Proverbs 3. In His time “He WILL bring you out!” When you know that God is your Father, Maker and Creator go to Him in prayer! “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of the wicked, for the evil man has no future of hope , and the lamp of the wicked will soon be snuffed out.”

Do Not Bear False Witness

There are those who will lie to get their way. They will even go to extreme measures to slander, bear false witness, discredit your name and bring you down. They will distort the Truth or leave out vital information because their purpose serves to casts a dim light upon your character. This is why it is important to know the Word! As children of God; are we not soldiers in a spiritual battle? The difference is our weapons are not carnal! Learn to guard your heart! It is important to discipline yourself to respond in a manner that pleases God! The more you exercise godly wisdom you will become spiritually stronger. This is an ongoing life long process! The Proverbs have an arsenal of spiritual wisdom!

It is much more important what God KNOWS rather than what others think? “Truth sets you Free!” Revenge is the way of the world. It is not God’s WAY! “Do not repay evil for evil...” Romans 12. God WILL take care of you and them as well! Give them to the Lord! If anything pray that they repent! God will give you His PEACE that surpasses the understanding of man! “Do not testify against your neighbor without cause, or use your lips to deceive. Do not say I will do to him as he has done to me.”

Proverbs 24 concludes by telling us: “I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw: A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – an poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like a bandit.”
