~ Proverbs 4 The Goldmine Of Spiritual Wisdom ~

Wisdom is Supreme

Parents have a huge responsibility! It is a tedious, time consuming, responsibility to work together and build a loving, safe healthy home environment. In this 21st century it is becoming even more so complicated! Solomon had a wise father. His father was King David and he was known as a “man after God’s own heart!” It is evident that David passed his wisdom on to his son Solomon. All godly wisdom comes from God! The beautiful thing about God is if you did not have wise parents you are not excluded. You can still access His wisdom once you except Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord! These Proverbs were written to help us all make better life choices and decisions!

If you want more wisdom go for it! Ask God for it! It is a daily choice to operate your way or God’s WAY! Solomon is coming from a place of Knowing! He had everything anyone would ever need. Therefore what he has to say is so valuable because he knows firsthand what it took to have it, keep it and loose some it! His father taught Him that it was very important to choose God’s way! The world does not have more to offer than the Lord. Although it may appear that way it does not. It has found ways to take title and possession of the Lord’s earth to a degree but; The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof the world and them that dwell therein.” Psalms 24. Have you lost something? Has someone taken something from you? Well guess what God has more? Life really is not just about the getting and having, it is about knowing God! Listen attentively as Solomon speaks in this Proverb!

How does one get more wisdom? “If any lacks Wisdom, he should ask GOD. who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But he must ask believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea. Blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man unstable in ALL he does” JAMES 1 We must learn to TRUST God! We discussed the importance of trust in Proverbs 3 The Goldmine Of Spiritual Wisdom ~ BENEFITS There are many wise benefits in Proverbs!

~ Proverbs 4 ~

Proverbial Lesson Highlights

Key Verse: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get Understanding.”

Solomon so wanted his children to know, fully embrace and enjoy the significant importance of listening to the instructions of a wise father! Experience is not always the best teacher. Sometimes you can listen and observe rather than actually experience and go through some things. You can learn from the mistakes of others! For instance “You do not have to go to the bottom of the creek to KNOW that there is mud in it…”

Solomon tells us, if you embrace and love wisdom it will keep and preserve you! There are core truths in life that a godly parent desires to pass down to their children. This becomes a valuable legacy. People often think what is most valuable is of a monetary nature or something that is tangible. The wisdom of God is priceless! It will help you to navigate through the many mazes an obstacles of life. It is forever important and increases in value as you practice the godly wisdom principles in your life that are found in the Bible! Wisdom means practical discernment!

Grace is a byproduct of wisdom! The acronym for GRACE is; G~R~A~C~E God’s Riches At Christ Expense! Grace is unmerited Favor it is a gift from God! “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be Holy and without blame before Him in Love…” Ephesians 1. Wisdom is one of those spiritual Blessings! The Proverbs are full of the Wisdom that God intends us to live by! WISDOM is inclusive of respecting God and an increased awareness of what is right and wrong by God’s standard’s!

Quite often people use grace as a license to sin or manipulate! They will do whatever it is they want to get what they want or to control you, and will expect you to continuously overlook what they do. Many are not aware that they often become enablers! Enabling hinders others from moving towards healing because unconsciously unhealthy behavior is condoned. Sometimes it is intentional an sometime it is out of ignorance! Solomon candidly shares with us what results when we do not face sin and issues! Many wise illustrations are provided in His Word! Confrontation is necessary. Although often a painful process on the other side is healing and freedom. As a Christian God has clearly predetermined for us some things that are not right! Sin needs to be confronted in love. By not confronting issues they continue to grow, fester and hinder your path forward and often manifest in sickness, anger, cancer, depression and mental illnesses…

Solomon tells us: “Do NOT enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass it…” God does not operate in the dark, nor does He try to entrap you. He does not need to. He is aware of everything! People embrace and justify using many worldly ways and principles that are not of GOD! Solomon chose wisdom above all else. One must realize that sometimes well meaning friends and loved ones with their good intentions can lure you into doing wrong. When you feel yourself being heavily influenced and it does not match up with godly wisdom; back away or proceed with caution! One must be discerning and be willing if necessary to stand alone when you know that something is not of the LORD! Actually you do not stand alone, because the Lord stands with you! Jesus Christ is a Solid ROCK foundation!

The story of Job is another one of many wonderful examples of wisdom in the Bible. His friends thought they knew… but they had assumed that Job was trusting in something other than God! Job was a righteous man. Rigtheousness is not the same as being sinless. Only Jesus Christ was sinless! He conquered sin in the flesh for us! This is why we need a Savior! “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” Righteousness means that Job’s righteousness was imputed to him through divine intervention. This story of wisdom shows that money, possessions, knowledge and relationships will fail sometimes. Job and his friends were not aware at the time of the “big picture.” They did not fully understand, it demonstrates that God’s people do suffer; bad things happen to good people! They did not realize what was going on. We can TRUST God! One’s true “security and significance” must be in an unfailing Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient, GOD! GOD truly is FAITHFUL!

Solomon tells us to learn how to “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the Wellspring of life...” Wellspring defined means: The source of a spring a continual supply. Reading His Word safeguards your heart! Trusting in God and in His Word is essential in attaining wisdom! Developing healthier boundaries are a part of exercising godly wisdom! This is what helps us to obey Him and live successfully in the eyes of God! The world's perspective is quite different from the Lord's view!

God is a God of Light! Walking in the TRUTH of His Word is important. Developing a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ is important. Jesus did not come live a sinless life, die on the cross and rise from the grave for us to live a legalistic life. He came that we could have an abundant Joyful life accompanied by godly wisdom! Hebrews says:May the God of PEACE, who through the blood of His eternal COVENANT brought back from the dead through our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd, of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing HIS WILL, And may He work in us to do what is pleasing to Him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever…” AMEN! & PRAISE GOD!

It is important to KNOW the Word of God for yourself! How will you know if something is from the Lord? A good indication that something is not from the Lord, is when you Know something is not TRUE! When someone says or tells you something that is not true it is not from the Lord! There are some things that are not readily apparent. Prayer, fasting, seeking God’s direction and understanding is an important part of the Christian walk! Discernment is key! Understanding is also a precious gift from God. Sometimes you may have to patiently wait until more things or information materializes in the natural. Proverbs is a “Goldmine of Spiritual Wisdom!” Here you will find many pithy sayings that confront human decisions and choices! Both Proverbs and Job display a balance. We cannot always tell how God is working. But we do know that He is Sovereign in a world that continually undermines and negates His principles!

Proverbs 4 concludes by telling us: “DO NOT swerve to the right or the left keep your foot from evil.”

DeBorrah,

Great Hub.

Indeed the book of proverbs is a book of wisdom handed down to the generations from Solomon. Prayer, discernment, understanding, and wisdom are all of the utmost importance for us to maintain Godly morals in a sinful world.

I never tire of reading the wisdom literature for it truly is a goldmine of spiritual wisdom.

It is true that "We cannot always tell how God is working. But we do know that He is Sovereign in a world that continually undermines and negates His principles!" Therefore, as you said, it is important for us to KNOW the Word of God for ourselves.

A inspiring message DeBorrah from an inspiring book in God Scriptures. Thank you.

Forever His,

DeBorrah k-

Indeed we must ask for wisdom-we need wisdom to understand, and to stand up for Him who gives it to us.

My husband,by virtue of his work(not religious area),is often asked to speak publicly -TV radio etc,.and writes frequently for newspapers-he prays daily for wisdom, but always before he writes or speaks-he also asks the Holy Spirit to guide his words.

Much of what he says is unpopular with specific groups-but that hasn't stopped the invitations.

I've gone a bit of subject here-but when God gives wisdom ,I believe, he will see that it is used for the good.

Itakins, Yes! I so agree! Its evident your husband must do well, as the Word says; "Your gift will make room for you..." They continue to invite him; I see this as the Lord opening the door no man can close...

You are quite on point. I think that it is within our everyday lives that we need to ask for the continuing guidance of the Holy Spirit! Yes! I too believe that God will see to it that His God given WISDOM "will be used for the GOOD!"

Thank you as always for sharing your welcomed insight, In His Love & Blessings!

I have a very old KJV given to me by a Pastor years ago and it has been my Manual For Living for so long now I could not conceive of any other way. It has never once steered me wrong and what I've gained puts me in mind of a well where you can keep going back and always find something new and beneficial.

Wisdom must be the foundation and the most important gift to use, anhance and develop. Without it as your foundation, how will we know how to use all the other good stuff?

Keep it going DeBorrah!

Proverbs is a "Goldmine" of Spiritual Wisdom!! If only more people would crave to seek wisdom, as wisdom is the beginning of all Truth!! King Solomon admonished us to write wisdom on our hearts, to seek wisdom as if seeking a goldmine, or "hidden treasure" as he states in Proverbs 2:4. The book of Proverbs is so packed full of promises for those who seek and find wisdom. Promises of renewed health and vitality, physical protection, protection from evil, radiant health and life....and many more blessings!! Wisdom is The Tree of Life!! (Proverbs 3:18). Thank you DeBorrah K. for these words of wisdom!!

Peace.

Another awakening Hub - thanks. Its true, we must read the word for ourselves. Years ago, in my church, the Pastor asked how many people thought this verse was in the bible. "Heaven helps those who help themselves". Some people raised their hands.

Obviously, its not in the Bible, but it's a popular saying. So it's important we study the Word ourself. Thanks for encouraging us. Regards.

We can say as did Paul, "Fear God. Honor the king." it is wise. It is wisdom. But how? that is understanding. The Proverbs gives all kinds of suggestions as to how to get wisdom and understanding. For example the statement at the end of this hub: "Do not swerve to the right hand or to the left, keep your foot from evil." Singleness of purpose and singleness of mind on the Lord is one key to wisdom and understanding.
