Parables of the Kingdom of Heaven

Explaining the Kingdom through parables.

Do we understand the meaning behind the parables that Jesus Christ used during His three and a half years of His ministry. Many of them have one thing in common. And many of us seem to miss the point of the parables that Jesus used. Many take His parables out of context. And yet the reason for the parables are stated at the very beginning of many of the parable. But first we should trying to understand why Jesus used parables in the first place. So in order to do that we must go to Matthew 13: 34-35 (NKJV) which states:

34 All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without parables He did not speak to them, 35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by prophet, saying: "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things kept seceret from the foundation of the world."

Jesus utter something in many of His parable that was kept seceret from man for a very long time. So which parables revealed the seceret.? The following list are just some of parables that reveal the seceret.

The Sower. Matthew 13: 3-23

The Tares: Matthew 13. 24-30

The Mustard Seed: Matthew 13:31-32

The Leaven: Matthew: 13:33

The Hidden Treasure Matthew 13:44

The Pearl of Great Price. Matthew 13: 45-46

The Dragnet. Matthew 13:47-50

The Laborers in the Vineyard: Matthew 20: 1-16

The Wedding Feast: Matthew: 22: 2-14

The Wise and Foolish Virgins Matthew 25: 1-13

The Growing Seed: Mark 4: 26-29

And a number of others.

So, what is noteworthy about each of these parables? They all reveal what the Kingdom of God is LIKE. Each of the above parables starts out with the words; "The Kingdom of Heaven is LIKE." or words to that effect.

The seceret from the foundation of the world is revealed when we understand what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.

For far to long these parables have been taken out of context. These parables do not explain life's simple problems or how to live your life as many are lead to believe. These parables are an open window to what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. These parables are revealing the nature of the Kingdom of Heaven (God).

It is time for us as christian to seek the Kingdom of God and understand what it is like. When we begin to study the parables Jesus had spoken during His ministry and realize that they are revealing what the Kingdom of Heaven is like, then we will have a greater understanding of Jesus ministry and why He was sent to this earth.

The parables mentioned above are not all the parables mentioned by Jesus during His ministry. But most of the parables explain a likeness of the Kingdom of Heaven.

I will describe the following parable as mentioned Matthew 13: 18-23 which is the parable of the Sower. It states:

18 Therefore hear the parables of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the KINGDOM and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who receives seed by the wayside. 20"But he who received seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word [of the Kingdom] and immedately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in him, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or perscution arises because of the word [of the Kingdom], he immedately stumbles. 22 Now he who receives seed among the thorns is he who hears the word [of the Kingdom], and the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word [of the Kingdom] and becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on good ground is he who hears the word [of the Kingdom] and understands it, who indeed bears good fruit and produces; some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty."

These verses are the key that help understand the Kingdom likeness parables. So follow me as I explain.

When the word of the Kingdom is sown in one's heart, how he receives it is an issue of the heart. The desire to or not to understand. In others words understanding the Kingdom will come from desire of the heart to seek or not to seek the Kingdom. What is most important to us in life is what determines the soil type the seed land on.

It is best explain in Matthew 13:14-15 which states: 14" And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says; "Hearing you will hear and shall not understand. And seeing you will see and not perceive; 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Least they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Least they should understand with their heart and turn, so that I may heal them."

It is most important to understand that much of Jesus teachings of the Kingdom of Heaven came through the form of parables. And understanding of these parables come only through study and the help through the Hoy Spirit. We must seek in order to find. We must have the desire to find. We must listen to the Holy Spirit and when we do we will begin to understand what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.

excellent work my brother. It is well done and correct--- this is the type of teaching that all Christians need to help them understand what Christianity is all about. And most important of all to learn and KNOW the character and nature of God. We have an obligation , if we Say we are CHristian, to learn and understand All about God, who He is, What He Requires of us and what He has planned for us.

celafoe- Thank you very much for your kind word. I very much hope this information will help others understand how important the parables are in relation to the Kingdom of God. Clearly, the many parables spoken by Jesus may, in some cases, be difficult to understand which is why personal study of God's word is so important for all of us. Those who are new in the christian faith may find it difficult to understand many of the parables. I can only suggest they let their heart guide them in which the Holy Spirit will reveal understanding. Learning about the Kingdom of God is a never ending lifetime task that I personally enjoy very much. And I hope others will too.

Thanks celafoe and many blessings to you.

manatita44- I am deeply grateful for your comment. It is my hope this Hub will help others to understand that many of the parables of Jesus Christ are describing the likeness of the Kingdom of God. He uses many examples in the parables that need to be understood. And this requires desire and need to study the word of God on the part of the individual christian. And I hope others will do just that.

God bless.

Thank you for writing this hub. I love to read them because you always teach me something. Thank you again.

So many churches today do not teach, they sing a lot, but will only use one or two scriptures. The ones on TV seem to teach that being rich is good. I don't know why that is happening, but it is.

Your hubs teach the truth.

Thank you again.

Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. I know there are many others out there who have study the word of God and can share there knowledge of the gospel with us. However, I believe it is important that all information we learn from others should always be confirm through personal study of the bible. Therefore I hope whoever may read my christian related Hubs will confirm what ever I may say with the bible. And let the Holy Spirit guide them to all truths.

God bless.
