Part Three of Body Soul and Spirit

Part 3

We are called to become treasure hunters, mountain movers, water walkers, freedom leaders for the oppressed, deliverers of the broken hearted, releasers of the captives, the discarded, broken, bent, hurting, blind and lame. We are called to “Have Faith In God!”

We comprehend so little? We have before us a book of words, of sayings, of precept and principle; of both light and dark words and another realm of the Spirit tucked between the lines.

Perhaps it was written for the all, of the most desperate ones who will muster up enough courage to seek out the complete and whole truth that is buried in the heart of him who came. Jesus: He who came freely to us as a gift! We have only to break into it with whole-hearted tenacity and veracious appetite that will capture the eyes of heaven and unlock our slumbering spirit and raise us to a new place of glory and life. The truth; HE is within us, ready to unfold every layer; but he needs our permission – part tragedy, part mystery, partly hidden in a field that few dare to consider buying. We all pass it by on a daily basis, right there outside our windows – a field that belongs to another. There is the pearl of great price, also, hidden beneath the waves – a place of great depth. A place to dive into – a place deep within his heart!

These are the things that the Kingdom is made up of; but for who?

All for us! It has always been.

Ours is the choice – always the choice of how much, how far, how high, how deep, how wide do we want to take our lives?

The most profound truth is; we don’t even have to spend a cent to get there. We don’t have to go visit some mystical mountain, well, spring, or drink from a sacred cup. It is right within each mans grasp; in our heart and in our spirit. Every human being upon the face of earth has the exact same equal opportunity to experience it. This is simply Amazing!

How lost are we? How asleep while eternity awaits our coming into being?

We hide behind our fear, our wall of humanness and flesh and bone and say, “It is not so!”

Jesus says, “I am the way… the truth… the life!” Life in Christ holds the mysteries of heaven, if we deem this worthy of our whole hearted pursuit.

Holy Spirit, he does not slumber and he never sleeps. He awaits our awakening, our birthing. (See John 3, Jesus conversation with Nicodemus)
Let me ask you this: Why have there been so many heaven encounters with earth, where God was trying to awaken men’s spirits, time after time, again and again to cause revival, to breathe new life into us, new fire or call it what you may; why is He so insistent to effect men to pray fervently for this to happen?

As it was in the beginning, Holy Spirit hovers over our lives awaiting the next new moment to breathe fresh life into us.

We wrestle on the edge of fulfillment with reason and doubt, foolishness and unbelief.

The words echo and re-echo through our minds of fear.

He stands at the door… “Those who seek me, WITH ALL THEIR HEART FIND ME!”(Emphasis Mine)

Peter says to Jesus, “Command me to come out to you on the water.” Jesus says, “Come!”

Why Peter? Why not John his other good friend? Peter defied all the odds.

Can it be done again? Why not?

We are called to join him where he is.

Where is he right now that is calling out to your life? Or will he pass right by?

He is in the presence of his Father and we are called to come there. We are invited into his presence, where there is life, liberty, favor, freedom, peace, experience, manifestation (as Daniel, Ezekiel, and John experienced) and with angelic host spurring us on.

How shallow a life we all seem to choose and I am dumbfounded as to know why?

3) Our SPIRIT: We are given a spirit and know little to nothing about its function and capabilities within us. We are more than breathers as in Hebrew nephesh, when God breathed into Adam, making him a “living being.” Zechariah 12.1 states that “The Lord… formed the spirit of man within him”.

What is the function of our spirit, other than being an internal composite of our created being? According to the teaching of the Bible and the experience of believers, the human spirit is comprised of three parts or three main functions. They are conscience; intuition and communion. There are many diversities and individual distinctions within our spirits that have huge influences surrounding our personality. Our spiritual adversary does not want our spirit to have life and does everything in his power to keep us subdued. Why? What does he know about our created being that scares him so much causing him to be such a vicious threat to our enlightenment and personal experience?

We are given a mind that has the capacity of a super computer and we function on a level with the animals because that is primarily what we have been taught and we believe the continuous lies of the fallen angel, Satan.

The differences of our spirit:

Contrite and humble spirit, with whom God dwells. Is 57.15

Acceptable sacrifices, from a broken spirit, meaning those who tremble at his word. A healthy spirit is one of brokenness before the Lord. Ps 51.17

Reverence for God and refuses to be independent of God. Holy fear. Is 66.2

A lowly spirit, associates with the poor and needy; teachable, despises no man, spiritually humble, virtuous, tender, flexible, these are the norm. Waits on the Lord. Prov 16.19, 29.23

Poor in spirit. Humility, views oneself as possessing nothing. Empty before God and free of self-centeredness and anything that might pollute the spirit. Matt 5.3

Gentle spirit. No harshness. God requires that we cultivate a gentle spirit. Easily turns to God’s will. Resists self will or purpose. Never any thought of revenge. Righteous living without demanding it of others. Filled with love and mercy and melts the heart of others. Gal 6.1

Fervent spirit. Serving the Lord. Not an emotionally fervency that does not last. Holy Spirit stirs this persons fervency and qualifies his actions within them. Not reliant upon emotion. Rom 12.11

A cool spirit, = even tempered = knowledge. Knows the enemies tactics to drive us off track and away from contact with Holy Spirit. Able to keep the inner man calm and controlled. Self composure is not gained through self improvement but is secured through revelation of the Spirit. We must will to have a fervent spirit for the Lord's work and to maintain a cool spirit in executing that work. Prov 17.27 (Amplified Bible)

Joyful spirit. My spirit rejoices in God my savior! Towards ourselves we maintain a broken spirit, but towards God , one of rejoicing at all times. This joy exists because we know God is our center. We simply and explicitly rejoice because of God himself. When our spirit is oppressed by worry, weight, sorrow, cares of the world, it will become irresponsible and lose its proper place and if prolonged will become powerless to follow the leading of Holy Spirit. The ability to rejoice in God should never be in short supply in our lives, so we do not lose our lightness, freedom and joy.

Lk 1.47

Spirit of Power, and love and self control”. Timidity is not humility.

2Tim 1.7

“It is imperative that a believer knows he has a spirit, since we will come to understand that every communication of God with man occurs there. If the believer does not discern his own spirit he invariably is ignorant of how to commune with God in his spirit. He easily substitutes the thoughts or emotions of the soul for the works of the spirit. Thus confining himself to the outer realm, unable to ever touch the spiritual realm”.

(All of the above teaching on the differences of our spirit is adapted from the book; ‘The Spiritual Man’ by Watchman Nee).

Let me ask this question!

Over the course of your life, how much knowledge, understanding, have you gained; or research have you done as a Christian, as a serious believer, (I am assuming you are) or dared question God about in any form either great or small about who you are as a spirit possessing being, supposed to be connected to him and Holy Spirit? How much serious fasting or seeking his face to learn all that you could, to assist in moving you from glory to glory? How much time have you spent in enquiring of Holy Spirit about this integral part of your humanness?

If you desire to connect and experience more of God, then you really have to want it… as much as your next deepest breath; as if you were about to drown.

Do you desire MORE? If not, why not?

What might be the reasons for your hesitancy?

Could it be that you are being duped by an enemy that will do everything he can to frustrate your thoughts and keep your spirit in a place of slumber?

In the last, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or more years of your Christian life, what new experience(s) and or revelation have you received to cause your life to be more fulfilled and more loving, generous, joyous, peaceable, kind, gentle, self controlled, prayerful, (praying in the spirit) contented, and spiritually healthy?

If you say, “Nothing has…” then I would say that your spirit is slumbering and the enemy has trapped you by your own admission through your own words of doubt, fear, criticism, judgment, self autonomy; that you have not sought after the heart of God for more of himself, which really means simply more of Jesus and his character emanating and the love of Christ oozing out of your every pore, so that the aroma you give off is pure unadulterated love.

But if you do want more… don’t just follow my suggestions, but follow after the heart of Jesus and God the Father and be encouraged believing for more! Humility, confession and repentance are at the core of the spiritual believer; so if you desire more…

Say this with me… “I have a spirit formed in me by God, to be filled, awakened and designed to fully connect with him, the one and only true God, maker of heaven and earth, and I believe that Jesus the Christ is his only son and was sent from him for the purpose of my redemption that I might have fellowship with him and him with me and that he loved me so much that he gave me a free gift of life in the spirit through His precious Holy Spirit who I welcome to bring me new revelation and a new and fresh experiences of life in his presence; that I might be a powerful witness of His radical love for me and for others, and that I might fulfill ALL of Gods plans for my life.

Forgive me Oh God for allowing my spirit to slumber, for any judgments I have made against others who have pressed into you, for my unbelief, my pride, for not seeking new revelation or new experiences in you, for being afraid of your touching me and causing some unfamiliar manifestation to happen to me, because I was afraid. Forgive me for not wanting to see the gifts of your precious Holy Spirit develop and be free to be shared with others around me. Forgive me Holy Spirit for grieving you instead of welcoming your presence and for not believing that you only have good intensions in mind for my life. Thank you my God and King, in Jesus name, and let a fresh awakening come to me “NOW”, as you have purposed it in your will for me. Amen.”

I bless you, whether you are ready at this moment to receive from the Lord or not, as I said earlier, the choices all come down to how much, how far, how deep we individually desire to go with him. God will never over-ride our freedom, but always seeks a willing participant in the affairs of his heart.

Thank you for sharing in this brief exposition of our body, soul, mind, and spiritual make-up.

Be blessed, Saint L.

saint, believe this or not, this is only the third time I have tried to write this comment after having read your series. Everytime I am near the end, I hit a wrong key or something and the whole thing disappears. Frustrating...

so, I will try again only slower...:)

First, welcome back...I have missed your hubs. But having read where Father has had you and what the Spirit has been teaching I you I give God praise.

What a much needed series. My husband and I have just graduated from Bible College (09), and saint, we did not in all three years recieve teaching such as this. We, as man, do not even understand our own make-up, never mind the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Thank you so much for this. A series that will need to be read and re-read to garner its full import. Bless you my friend and brother...

Body, mind and soul...yes..they are 3 and yes there is a difference between the mind and the soul...but where is the heart...they honor Me with their mouth, but their heart is far from Me...the fourth one is the heart...the fifth one is God's living Word within the human spirit...the sixth one is Holy Spirit...righteousness is Jesus within the human heart, the seventh one..not to count Angels that might also occupy the body and give instruction and protection...the body is made up of millions of living cells, to us that is nothing...but when the body is right within God's presence, then you'll know that each living cell has some little intelligence, but enough to recognize God as the Father and Creator of them all...

to get to the point..we are so complex and amazingly put together..no wonder King David was in awe at just the thought of how God formed his tiny little bones in the womb...be blessed.. :)

UG, so good to hear from you also. Yes I've been away from hubpages and had been working on this writing for a while, adding bits and pieces over the past 2 months. Between reading, studying, and walking through my own personal journey it has been an interesting summer and now we enter into fall. There is so much more to say on this subject and I want to do it tactfully as to not lose anyone thinking that I am way out there, when this should be the norm for us as believers. For those who truely study the word, it's all right there for us to find. But all treasure has to be sought after and most of us are satisfied with the crumbs of bread and not the loaf. Thank you for your continuous encouragement as I journey and that I can bring some further enlightenment into your lives. May your spirit be enlarged and blessed. There is more to come on this subject. Blessings St. L

MG, point taken, but You cannot truly have the word in it's fullest form without the Spirit, ours and Holy Spirit,(the Pharasees were proof of that) since it is Spirit inspired. The heart is part of the character and personality which is under constant sanctification as is the soul. The saying, "live by your heart or do as your heart desires", is an action of the soulish life and bound in that realm. Heart and spirit are sometimes used as a single idiom and without an understanding of Hebrew and Greek expression, it is very easy to misinterpret the true meaning. The english language lacks much expression, not having enough phraseology to incorporate the significance of the many varried meanings throughout scripture and that is where many people go astray. I'm hoping that you phrased the sentence, "angels that might occupy the body and give instruction and protection", that this was an error? The only presence that should be occupying our body is Holy Spirit, anything else will definetely not be from God!! We may indeed be made up of complexity, but the gospel and living in the spirit was made simple through Jesus giving us Holy Spirit to show us what is truth. Thank you for the comments, St.L

It is refreshing to read of the triunity of man which is an often neglected topic and even controversial among many who insist on only body and spirit.

Thank you for enlightening us and challenging us to serious self-examination via serious questions regarding our spiritual health and growth.

Love, peace and love in Him who summons us to learn of Him for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Forever His,

RevLady, you are so right about the controversy over this subject. Living in the spirit/Spirit and understanding the many avenues of the soul. We are (myself included) creatures of habit and often choose the easy way out, rather than want for the riches of knowledge and understanding that is there for us to find; with the willingness to seek it out of course. Christ Jesus was the greatest encourager of all and we have an extremely small portion of written material to work from, but then he gave us the best part of the trinity in Holy Spirit for our assistance, knowing that we would be challenged on every side, but that the treasures of the Kingdom and the ability to walk in the Spirit as he did (as Paul discovered) is within reach of every man, woman and child.

The best learning I have found is to just walk it out, mistakes, troubles, failures, the ups and downs of it all. Keep asking seeking, knocking, digging...

Thank you for your encouraging comments. Blessings St.L

I'd like your comment on this: CS Lewis said "You do not have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body." In that vein, some say there is body, soul which is the mind, and spirit which is the heart as breathed from God. I think it all ties in wth what you are saying, but I'd like your comments.

hi Dave, thanks for the mail and you are right when you say that there is a lot of other thoughts on these individual subjects. I cannot recall where Lewis may have said that and in what context. I have read a number of his books in the past, but I take from the Psalms and David who spoke the most with regard to "his soul or my soul" and not saying that he himself was a living soul, but then the Hebrew does lend itself to that thought, so we have to ask ourselves... What really matters? We know there is a separation and distinction between these elements and both having the eternal dynamics and their influence upon us as we go about our daily life, whether Christian or nonbelievers, we cannot change the fact of the reality to our make-up. Appreciate your input. Blessings St L.

Brother Saint you did an excellent job at covering this subject and placing things in a very good perspective. It is a loss to me why such things are debated so often.

Some of the first recorded Words from our Lord, reflect:

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Genesis 1:27)

We are "triune" beings just like the Holy Trinity of GOD-(Son--Father--Holy Spirit) & MAN-(Body--Soul--Spirit). That is how we are created in the likeness of our Lord God, but this is too often overlooked as well as how it relates directly to us as being unique in His creation.

I remember, someone was comparing human being with computer in the following order.

Body - Hardware

Soul - Operating System

Spirit - Application

Sin - Virus

Holy Spirit - Anti-virus

Samraj19, interesting analogy. Sounds pretty close. The thing is we can choose to run with an outdated system, never wanting for new input, or we can keep in step with the Spirit, and receive continuous upgrades all the time. Thank you for the visit and comment. L.
