Santeria,What Is It?
Just a couple months ago I boarded a jet and flew here to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is an island here in the Caribbean and is made up of a wide variety of people. I have noticed that religion is taken very serious here. I thought that the Bible belt had domination over religion, but now I am unsure about that. Please note that I say religion, not necessarily Christianity. I have found in many cases where more "law" than "faith" is the primary scope. Yes, Christianity is strong here; so is Catholicism along with Santeria.
Santeria?? What is that you say?? I asked the same question, so I began to study. Before I go deep into explaining this religion, watch this video. Keep in mind the religion originated in Africa and is quite popular in Cuba and also here in Puerto Rico.
Santeria is a religion started in Africa. When slaves were brought to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, the Santeria religion also came. Santeria worships African gods which are called Orisha. Because Catholicism was so rampant in Puerto Rico then, the slaves and Taino Indians had to hide Santeria, so they named those gods after saints.
I believe that Santeria is still practiced very much here and is still a "hidden" religion. The practitioners hide in the guise of Christianity and practice the beliefs of their Taino and African ancestors.
Let's take a look at Santeria practices:
They worship many gods, but they mainly worship 7 that coincide with the planets. Jesus is also one they worship. This is where I see this religion as very dangerous. To mix Jesus in a religion that essentially is not following the Bible's practices is a lie of the Devil.
Santeria practitioners sacrifice animals to their gods through one of their "priests". They also have altars and offer food, money and coffee.
From what I see it is very much a mixture of paganism, Catholicism and Christianity.
There is many "hidden" parts to Santeria. I believe that voodoo is practiced within the religion. There are spells and blessings and cursing s. Special plants are used for healing, love and other needs.
I pray that some of the people I have come to know here in Puerto Rico have not fallen for this trap. I will not fear it as many do. I know that with Jesus in my heart, no spell can overtake His power and love.
I found one blog that the person openly admits to Santeria worship. The link is below along with other sights that explain it more in depth.
I could go deeper into my findings, but I find no need.
The reason I write this is I want to call all the people that trust in Jesus to pray. Pray hard for those caught in the trap; in the drug; in the lie of Satan called Santeria.
There are many scriptures in the Word of God that preach against this.
We are not to erect altars to other gods; one of the ten commandments says to worship no other gods.
We are not to use divination or sorcery as they do.
I ask every person who reads this and has the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior to pray right now. Pray this evil out of Puerto Rico, Cuba and the United States. Pray that these people would awaken to what they are doing.
God in the Trinity-Father,Son and Holy Spirit is the only Deity we should pray too!
If you are Santeria, please read the Bible. Please ask forgiveness and wal away from the lie you are following. Jesus loves you and you can be saved.
Here is a video that I found of a Santeria. Please pray for her too. May God wake these people up!
There are links too. Not to support them, but to pray over and lets destroy this lie of the devil!
