You're Beautiful-Sista' Devotions 365: When Life Seems Too Hectic To Stay Connected - Day 5
You are beautiful just the way you are!
As women, we often get caught up in society's standard of beauty and then begin to measure ourselves against that. More times than not, we find that we just do not measure up and then we internalize that skewed evaluation, begin to seek a change that can not only be physically unhealthy for us but mentally and spiritually unhealthy for us as well. Yes, it is important to be good stewards of our earthly vessel...our bodies. We should do this by being consistent with an exercise regime, learn how to eat properly and nourish our mind and spirit with daily doses of The Word. Unfortunately, what society has seen happen is just the opposite and amounts to self-abuse. We pollute our bodies with synthetic agents used to change our body shapes. We alter our shape and bone structure under the influence of dangerous anesthetics and surgeon's knives. We starve ourselves, slowly killing our vital organs to outwardly appear in conformation with those false society beauty standards. We even pollute our mind and spirit with images of physicality that are not normal; therefore, certainly unobtainable. Those images dash our hopes when we can not obtain assimilation to them and it damages our self-esteem negating the reality that what God made is good and perfect in and of itself! Did you know that your body is not your own? If you have altered your body in an unhealthy way, commit today to change your method of physical improvement, change your mindset about your body and know that what God made was good...all of it...including YOU! Consider this:
1 Corinthians 6:19 (New Living Translation) Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.
Psalm 139:14 (The Message) 13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you. The days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.
Prayer: Lord thank you for my life and my being. Today I will embrace myself and love every inch of your creation, not subscribing to images that the enemy would have me absorb of false physical beauty, designed to destroy my confidence in myself and my belief in your perfection of creation. I will commit to taking care of myself but I will no longer abuse myself, which I know now is your vessel, for the sake of trying to obtain an unobtainable self. I realize now that I truly am fearfully and wonderfully made, beautiful just as I am and I praise you for that today and always...Amen.
