For Singles-Sista Devotions 365: When Life Seems Too Hectic Too Stay Connected - Day 7
All The Single Ladies: Be Patient My Sista', Love Is On The Way!
Loneliness is a tough state of being. Your desires sometimes make you wanna holla! It can also prompt thoughts to consider compromising yourself for a little affection which can lower your standards for companionship. It is very difficult, and at times frustrating, to receive encouragement to remain chaste from family and friends who have their own spouses. The famous prophetess Juanita Bynum candidly summed up the feeling in a conference with Bishop T.D. Jakes in 1997 as she was preaching and promoting her book No More Sheets. She said,
“But I find it very difficult to listen to anybody preach to me about being single when they got a pair of thighs in [their] bed every night … and you keep telling me to ‘Hold on, honey, stay there by yourself’ … and you goin’ home to big old muscles and thighs? … I wanna hear ‘hold on’ from somebody that knows my struggle!”
God knows that you get lonely. He knows that you desire a mate and He knows that you have physical desires too and he intends for you to have that companionship you so desire. The key is patience! I know...that sounds too boring, time consuming and unrealistic. The problem with keeping that thought process is that if you don't live disciplined in patience, you are bound to repeat the cycle of failed relationships as you have experienced in the past. God will never bless the mess of an unholy union and the enemy wants you to be alone and unhappy so...if you keep doing what you're doing, you will keep getting what you get! Try a radical change. Obtain your perfect mate using God's method and his standards and He'll be sure to send you a keeper this time around. Be patient my sista', love is on the way! In the meantime, work on you! Make sure you are that same blessing to your mate that you want him to be for you.
Proverbs 1:10 My son [speaking to daughters too!], if sinners entice you, do not consent.
*Exodus 20:14 You shall not commit adultery (Note* Some schools of thought in Christianity would suggest that if you desire to be married, God already has a mate destined for you; therefore, to lay with another who is not your promised one is to commit adultery.)
Proverbs 31:10-11 (New Living Translation) 10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. 11 Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.
Prayer: Lord, I am so tired of being alone but I commit to no longer compromising myself and displeasing you. I want a relationship that glorifies you and gives you honor as I desire to honor you in ALL aspects of my life. Perfect my patience Lord so that this time your perfect mate for me has room to enter my life. I thank you for him in advance, in Jesus name...Amen.
