Cancel Lunch with Misery!-Sista' Devotions 365: When Life Seems Too Hectic To Stay Connected- Day 8
Proverbs 11:13 A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.
Cancel Lunch with Misery!
Why would anyone ever choose to keep company with Misery? Good question but we do when we allow ourselves to associate with certain people that operate contrary to happiness. We can find ourselves shopping with, having lunch with and even going to worship with Misery. Those are the people who can't get enough of negativity, gossip, stirring up confusion, they are always angry about something and they dash any joy that you share with them out of jealousy. They are your “friends”...maybe have been since childhood, so you are reluctant to let them go. You tolerate their attitudes and often find yourself chiming in on their negative thought and action binges. Why? Because Misery loves company!
careful who you align yourself with because in doing so you are
saying you AGREE with everything that person stands for. My
grandmother had an old saying, albeit not original, that I have kept
with me through the years...She said "If you lay with dogs you
will get up with fleas!" Bad attitudes will rub off on you and
keep you in an unhappy state of being....The Word attests to this as
Proverbs 22:24-25 (NIV) 24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man,
do not associate with one easily angered, 25 or you may learn his ways
and get yourself ensnared.
Surround yourself with positive-minded people to help keep yourself in perfect peace.
Proverbs 27:4 An angry person is dangerous, but a jealous person is even worse.
Lord I ask you today to purge me from those individuals that are in my life who choose to live in negativity. I seek good people to surround me who are grounded in your word and who know how to choose to live in joy. I know that misery, confusion, back-biting and gossip mongering are not of you; therefore, I cast it down, in the name of Jesus, and I ask you to separate me from those who bring this type of behavior. I know my request may leave me alone for awhile, but I will be courageous and have faith that the void left will soon be filled with your best servants who strive to please you as I do. You know what I need and who I need along this life's journey and I thank you in advance for the blessing of good friends. In Jesus name... Amen.
