Speaking Truth About God: Helping To Overcome Loss & Grief
God Gives Eternal Life
Going through loss of loved ones is something we all have been through or are going through and will have to go through countless times before we go. Sometimes it happens too often in a short amount of time and we do not understand why. We all grieve differently over the loss of loved ones and our grieving period doesn’t have a time limit, even harder when you lose someone and are still grieving while we experience the loss of another having to grieve for more than just one person at a time. We also grieve for friends who lose loved ones because we see their pain and that in turn hurts us because we do not like to see our friends suffering. Somewhere we have to find the strength to stand, the strength to be the one your friend can lean on, and the voice to speak truth that God is not the author of pain, grief, confusion and bad things that happen in our lives or the lives of those that we have lost.
The following video is a story behind the reason Josh Wilson wrote the song "Before the Morning" The lyrics are so much more inspiring knowing the story behind the song and it is worth the time to watch because it is about trials, suffering, doubt, faith, and knowing that "if we can trust God with our eternity, we should be able to trust Him with our now"...

People Tend to Blame God
Helping each other as well as ourselves in these trials comes through understanding the grieving process and understanding God. Our typical response as humans is to blame God for death because people say how are these things possible if God really loves and cares for us? Is He a God of suffering? God created humans, Adam and Eve, in a paradise where there was no death and no suffering. It was the fall of man that created sin to come into the world. When sin entered in along with it came death, disease, sickness, pain, and suffering. It is the evil of the world that causes things to happen that we do not understand. The question then becomes, if it was Adam’s decision to not listen to God that brought this into the world, why do we have to suffer? It is because every human is a descendant of Adam. Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.” There is not one of us that are innocent before God, Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” No one is worthy to stand before God because we all have a sinful nature and cannot bring that into His holy presence. All of these things that happen to us and around us, loss of loved ones, hurricanes and tsunamis that kill thousands of people they are reminders that sin has consequences and the world needs a savior. This is where God comes in.
God Loves Us
We Are God's Children
God loves all of us because we are His creation, His children, and even though we sin and fall short of His glory, God is merciful. He provided a way for us to be with Him and be able to stand in His presence and not have to face consequences for our actions; it was through the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus, who is God, came to earth as a man, lived a sinless life, and then died on the cross to pay for the penalties of sin. He took every sin that man had done, is doing, and will do while he was on the cross. Romans 5:18 “as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life” God is righteous, but God used grace because of His love for us and took that punishment upon Himself as payment for our sins. Christ didn’t remain dead in the grave. He showed power over death through His resurrection. Since Christ did this for us those who believe in Him can know that they too will live, and death will have no sting. In Christ, those who have received the free gift of eternal life can look forward to spending eternity with Him in a perfect, pain-free place (Revelation 21:4). As the Apostle Paul wrote, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” Ephesians 2:8-9 We cannot say that if God really loved us He would put us in a place free from this fallen world because He already did that and man rebelled. Again I will say that God showed us His love by dying for the world and coming back from death so that all who believes in Him will receive the free gift of eternal life and spend eternity with Him in heaven. When we look at time we cannot comprehend eternity but the time we live in this fallen world has no significance in the end because we will be in that perfect place forever with God.
In Christ Alone
Accept Him Into Your Life
If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, let me encourage you to search your heart and make that choice. I do not know how anyone can go through such heartache and retain any sanity without the peace and love of God carrying them through it. Praying and talking to God through our trials gives us comfort, He is our rock and our hiding place. He never fails us, he never leaves us and without Him we do not have the strength to carry on. It is God who provides all our needs during these times and at other times in our lives. "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28
Find Comfort in God
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38 God helps us and time heals all wounds both physical and psychological. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4 ….."for they shall be comforted." That means God will provide comfort when you are grieving even in times where it is so bad that you feel like you cannot breathe. He will sustain you and carry you through this time. He will provide what you need, but you have to reach out and ask Him to. If you want comfort, you need to ask for forgiveness, put your faith in Him, accept Him into your life and ask Him to help you.
"The Lord is near to those who are broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18 He is close to those who are suffering. He knows the pain we're going through and He keeps us from being consumed by it. Philippians 4:6-8 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Don't Get Knocked Down
We are all here for each other, we are all children of God and we all have the ability to pray. Prayer is so important…it’s not about religion; it’s about having a relationship with God. Prayer is a form of communication with God, talk to Him and tell Him what you need and mostly ask Him to comfort you so that you can help the people around you. He never fails. The greatest gift from God is eternal life in Heaven to those who believe in Him. When we accept Him into our hearts He no longer sees us as lost and unsure. He sees us the same way He sees Christ because through our salvation He lives in us in our spirit and what He sees when He looks at us, is what He sees when He looks at Christ. When we are at our weakest the enemy likes to keep us down but that is also when God is the closest to pick us back up and give us His strength asking us to hand Him our burdens so He can carry them for us and uplift us to keep moving on the path of life. The path of eternal life that will lead us to our final resting place in the paradise of Heaven and when death and suffering rears its ugly head, God says no, they are my children and they are with me now through eternity. There is no death in God, because through Him we have everlasting life, maybe not on this earthly plane but in the Heavenly one where there is no brokenness, pain, suffering, death, or darkness. Ask for forgiveness and let Him into your life and He will help you through everything. By faith we can understand, Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Also, remember when Jesus died and rose again one of His disciples doubted it, Thomas, he said to them “Unless I see in His hands, the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” John 20:25 and it goes on in John 20:26-29 “And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Don’t let death and trials knock you down, let it build up your faith and trust in God to help you through it.
