Spiritual Renewal

2 Short Devotions

Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

In the spring people often clean up and do a real good thorough spring cleaning. Maybe we can use this same idea to have our spirit renewed. For example, we clean out our closets and throw out a lot of stuff that we don't need. We clean out our garages and basements. It feels good after this is all completed. By doing this we make room for some new stuff. In the same way we could pray for a cleansing of our spirit. Sometimes we need deep cleaning. A cleansing from within. In doing this we can make room for new stuff in our heart. Let's pray like the verse above that God will create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. Maybe we still curse sometimes, or maybe some of us struggle with the act of gossip. Whatever it may be that we struggle with, remember God can create a clean heart with us. Sometimes there isn't a struggle and we are not even aware of what needs to be thrown out in our lives, but God does. Praise God that we have this opportunity! When things start feeling a little stale in our walk with the Lord; why not pray for cleansing and have our spirits renewed? Like the spring with budding on the trees, and the glorious sun that shines so brightly, a renewal will bring a personal revival in our hearts.

Dear God, create in us a clean heart and renew our spirits. Refresh our spirits today I pray. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Hebrews 10:22

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

If we lack assurance, we need to pray for assurance. If we have an evil conscience, we need to ask for forgiveness. We need to ask God to wash our bodies with pure water. This is such a beautiful verse and it says so much. No one wants to walk around with a evil conscience, at least most people don't, I think. Our hearts can be sprinkled with pure water and become totally clean. A fresh slate! Another similar scripture is below.

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.

Ezekial 36:25

Do you want to be cleansed from all your impurities? What are your idols? Maybe it is that one thing that you absolutely don't want to give up or give to God.

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:11

Thank you God for washing and sanctifying us. Thank you for sending your Son.
