Prayer and Strongholds
What is Prayer?
Prayer is a two way conversation with God. When you pray it is not about reciting your stresses or wants to God. He wants to be your Friend as well as your Savior. He is also your provider. He loves and cares for you. That means he wants to help you with your problems. Many times we pray for things without thinking out what we really need from the Lord. Jesus said, the little foxes spoil the vines; so many people pray for the little things in their life, forgetting that Jesus also said that all things are possible to him that believes. Think about what you ask for in prayer. Sometimes you get your prayers answered and there are unintended consequences.
What The Bible Says
II Corinthians 10: 1-6
1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

What the Apostle Paul is Talking About
These verses are not complicated. Paul is explaining to the church that we are still human. God comes into your heart and fills you with His spirit but we are still humans with our feet on the ground. In spite of this we are expected to pray. There is no magic formula that appears when you find God and seek his face. It is important to understand that Paul is explaining warfare praying. He is telling us that in spite of the circumstances in which you find yourself, you should raise your eyes to the spiritual aspect of the situation. In other words, we live on earth. We go to work, home, school, suffer loss, pain and many other things. Through all these things we can choose to view our lives from the purely physical world and have no hope...
Spiritual Warfare Prayer
Or, we can lift our eyes to God and do battle with our Adversary through prayer; fervent prayer. This is a different type of praying. It works. However, to be successful we must walk in obedience to God if we expect God to fight our battles for us. We must be willing to allow God to change our minds, our lives, our very essence of being. This type of Christian Living is basically walking in two worlds. Some of you will reject this message out of hand, but there are those among you whose need is so great you are willing to just go for it. You are the persons I am seeking to help.
What is the Stronghold in Your Life?
What is the stronghold in your life? I am talking about that pain that never goes away. That need that is overwhelming your soul that you generally do not talk about. God is concerned with these issues, too. If you pray fervently and do not doubt in your heart, God can and will do anything for you. Many people get bogged down worrying if something is the Lord's Will, so they never ask for things. The truth is somewhere in the middle. If you seek the Lord and ask for His will in your life then he may say no... But he will supply your needs. He will not give you everything you want, but he will supply your needs liberally. Strongholds are not necessarily sins. Think about that. Strongholds are situations that may be caused by someone else, that you have to live with. God is still in the business of pulling down strongholds if you have faith and do not give up.

Learning to Pray
Learning to pray should be the goal of every Christian believer. If we are not a people of prayer, then what are we? If we believe that God answers prayer, then we should be praying. If we do not believe that God answers prayer, the question becomes why are you claiming to be a Christian. Jesus instructed us to pray. Praying without faith and hope is useless. Turn away from sin and embrace the joy of the Lord. God still answers prayer. The life of the believer is NOT a useless routine and tradition. People who are disenchanted with religion and church find them in this position because they never truly met the Lord Jesus Christ. There is a life in God that is real. It is not routine and it is not ordinary. The personal relationship you develop with God will change your life, but only if you are willing for God to take control. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
James 4: 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
I recommend you read the whole chapter. This is one example of the word and not meant to distress anyone. Surrender to God and watch him pull down the strongholds in your life.
