The Bible Is An Historical Document

Archeology Is Bringing The Bible To life

Is The Bible True?

I recently read somewhere of a documentary on the Bible that left viewers with the reenforced view that the Bible is nothing more than a compilation of folk stories and myth. This just goes to show how subjective the recording of History can be. Researchers and other experts have always used slight of hand to get points across by using History as proof of their position. This is a weakness that Europe with its insecurities brought to civilization upon learning that the "writing in stone" came from "others". This realization that they were the new kids on the civilization block caused them to see the world through inferior and superior eyes. Further realizing that they were on the ascendency while those who gave civilization to the world were declining they set about redefining and rewriting the world based on their image. Benjamin Isaac, Lessing Professor of Ancient History at the Tel Aviv University in his monumental work entitled The Invention of Racism in Classical Antiquity argued that the ancient Greeks and later the Romans laid the groundwork for "modern racism".

The Bible was the source that the West used to embark upon its "Enlightenment " after stumbling out of its spiritual "Dark Ages". Scientific inquiry was in direct response to the Bible and the limitations it placed on those who believed and followed it. Europeans came to rely on the Bible during and after The Enlightenment as the instrument that justified their superior beliefs. They were, they reasoned, God's real "chosen people" not the Jews who were, a mixed bag of. There were Jews of every possible color and they had been enslaved. How could God's chosen possibly be enslaved. Only inferior people could be reduced to slavery. The Greeks bragged about their racial purity while forgetting to mention that southern Greece, the Peloponnesos was colonized by ancient Egyptians. These early Egyptians are mentioned in the Bible as Caphtor - Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 14 Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistinescame) and Caphtorites Genesis 10:13-14. According to the Bible's Table of Nations, Genesis 10, the Caphtorites decended through the line of Ham the African -

The Hamites

6 The sons of Ham:

Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.

7 The sons of Cush:

Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka.

The sons of Raamah:

Sheba and Dedan.

8 Cush was the father[c] of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in[d] Shinar.[e]11 From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir,[f] Calah 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.

13 Egypt was the father of

the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 14 Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.

15 Canaan was the father of

Sidon his firstborn,[g] and of the Hittites, 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, 18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.

Later the Canaanite clans scattered 19 and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

Biblical archeology has been opening up new vistas for serious study for quite some time. The different nations "races" of people predated racial studies by thousands of years. Modern slavery and later colonialism were artificially imposed boundaries whereas the Table of Nations shows how migrations created families and later nations. Humans share more in common than most are willing to accept. However, if looked at from a re-constructionist perspective Europe was last. The question is often asked; how is it that Greeks and Romans were so advanced. The answer is simple, they inherited full blown civilization that had preceded them by thousands of years then conveniently failed to mention that they were not the originators . However, trying to hide a lie in History will not keep it hidden always.

The Bible As History

In 1983 Werner Keller wrote, "The Bible As History". Since this book hit the racks archeology has affirmed and continues to affirm people, places, and events that make extremely difficult for Atheists and other free thinkers to discredit the Bible, especially as an historical document. As for Jesus not being mentioned by contemporary secular writers. Consensus, nor Imperial Theology would have permitted writers to give credence to a revolutionary executed for treason against Rome. The idea that anyone would claim or have others claim that he was a king could not be tolerated. This is why Jesus overwhelmly referred to himself as "son of man" which simply meant human being. Is the Bible an historical document? If hard evidence is the criteria then the answer is yes. If one seeks to redefine what is acceptable as hard evidence concerning the Bible then the answer is probably no.

Son of God or Son of Man

Jesus is referred to Son of God one time in the Book of 1 John 4:15. Jesus referred to Himself as "son of man" which meant human being. Son of God was a common title for Caesar, as was savior of the world, Lord, etc. For anyone to claim that title would mean death for treason. In the end Jesus was executed because of the popular support He received and the title of Son of God being attributed to Him. Jesus didn't need a title. As He said, He came to serve not to be served. The religion of Christianity was defined by the Apostle Paul based on the teachings of Jesus and the Romans through Constantine co-opted those teachings into Rome's state religion. Modern Church goers have been miseducated about Jesus teachings about the Kingdom of God by "pastors" and other Church leaders who themselves were never properly taught the true teachings of Jesus; a true case of the blind leading the blind. We must seek first the Kingdom of God otherwise this madness of humans dominating other humans, racism, sexism, and all other inequalities will continue. We can stop this and restore creation back the way our CReator intended and it matters not that everybody believes, let's give them the hard evidence they need....

The bible is a book of fables. You better check your historical resources again; or at least research the credible ones. Any honest man of the cloth will admit the bible is a book of passed down stories. It was not written by the hand of any man-created god. This is said not to insult your beliefs, but to state the truth.

To know truth one has to divorce themselves from themselves. By that I mean to step out of yourself and really try to look at the world objectively. It is impossible to do completely, but not impossible to do somewhat. Look at the world through the eyes of not yourself, but everyone and everything else. You will get a different perspective and truth. Most people tend to build on dreams and hopes and fears and what has been taught them from childhood. Most people never look at the world as it really is. And most are too quick to label everyone else as wrong and themselves as right. Only themselves as wronged. Yes, the bible is a historical document, but then so is the book "Alice in Wonderland." But Alice did not exist. And the biblical god does not exist either. At best the bible is a window into the thinking of some people of years gone bye. But there are a lot of books written about history, and the bible no different than other books has history written from the view seen of its own eyes. And just as Orson Welles radio broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" was fictional, so too is the bible. Many people listening to Welles' broadcast believed the Martians were attacking us. Just as many people believe god because they were brought up believing the bible was a gift from god. At one time most of the world believed the sun, the moon & the stars were within the Earth's atmosphere and all of them revolved around the Earth. Angels were created to open the doors in the dome that encompassed the sun, the moon and the stars and encased the Earth; doors in the doom there to let the ocean surrounding the Earth outside the dome rain upon us. God lived outside the dome. This is history too. But not reality.

Yes, Spiderman is real, a real work of fiction that is listed as history. It is really quite frustrating for people to attempt to defend a position yet ignore opposing evidence. What are you basing your "

disappearing" Biblical Archaeology; opinion doesn't count. Check this link out for recent (2013) discoveries - http://www.bible-history.com/archaeology/news/

I have studied it, actually - and "biblical archaeology" is disappearing at an alarming rate. My question to you was if you think Spiderman is real because we know that it was based in a real place.

history simply is the past considered as a whole, so yes Spiderman is a part of American socio-cultural history. Biblical Archaeology is a accredited scientific discipline. I suggest you study some of it and take a look at this http://israelsmessiah.com/biblical_archaeology/rec...

Do you have to believe everything that you read? Nevermind the fact that I've told you multiple times that I believed at the time. then I stopped. There is simply nothing in it that is worth believing - and no evidence whatsoever that the stories in it are true. I'm not sure why that's so hard for you to understand. I've told you multiple times.

I'm always amazed, JM, that you went to "one of the best Bible colleges in the country", yet you refuse to believe the Bible. Apparently, they aren't doing their job very well at that college.

Since the Spiderman comics were based in new York city, and we know that new York city exists, by your logic that makes Spiderman real and historical, right?
